Low resolution Indesign files on Mac Book Pro!

Why is my new mac book pro retina showing Indesign as low res text and images? Pdf's exported as hi-res print ready files are also low res to look at on screen!

I only have 5.5 - had read there were updates for Illustrator and Photoshop for retina - wasn't sure about Indesign. Will the upgrade to 6 solve this problem for all programs? (Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat?) Do I then need to go to the cloud for software updates? I really need to have hi-resolution display for magazine and photographic work. I also send hi-res pdfs direct to printers - this is impossible if I can't see clear images in final pdfs.

No. If you want full compatibility with that display for all Adobe apps you’ll need to move to Creative Cloud.

  • Can't iconvert SD600 files on mac book pro, apparently not compatiable.  What software can i download that will transcode the files so i can log

I have the SD files on my mac book pro hardrive but they are not compatiable and i cannot view them. I want to edit the clips in FInal Cut Pro.  I think i need to downloadd some software which will transcode the files and then i can import into Final Cut Pro? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Acorrding to the technical specs, it shoots mpeg4/h.264... However, I see other places mention it is MTS...
Do you still have the original file structure intact? Or do you have just individual movie files? whats the extension? .MTS, .MPEG4, MOV?
If MTS and you no longer have the original file sturcute intact, you need to use Clipwrap, if you do have the original files structure, you may be able to import using Log and Transfer....

  • Cannot install InDesign on my MAC book pro

New to Mac, so when I put in the cd, the Adobe folder appearson my desktop, I click on it and select install Adobe InDesign, it opens FTP Client Ultimate to install and of course says cannot install, wrong program.. So I tell it to use Automator, it says cannot install corrupt file, new disk, opened the seal myself. Can anyone shed any light on this?
this is where I miss windows..
    OS 10.8.5 8gig memory.

InDesign 2.0 was released in January 2002. Any version of Macintosh which can run Mac OS X 10.8.5 would NOT be able to install InDesign 2.0. It was created before the Mac was using Intel processors, and cannot run on any current Mac.

if that fails, uninstall, clean and then reinstall using the adobe installer.  ie, do not migrate etc adobe programs.

  • Safari hangs: not enough program memory, while 90G HD and 4G ram, OS re-installed, removed files etc. (mac book pro, leopard)

Safari hangs direct after starting up. Rainbow bol rotates around one hour after which a message is shown: "not enough program memory"
More than 90G free on HD, even removed more files and installed OS and programs again. Nothing helps.
    Help

SIG, thanks for your reaction. After reading my question again I understand it was not clear.
The reason I mentioned the 90G free HD space was the information I found on internet about my problem in which it was assumed there was not enough RAM memory and the processor uses the HD for SWAP files?
In any way my problem is still there and I like to add some information:
    MACBookPro OSX 10.6.7, 2.4 GHz duo, 4GB DDR3 RAM, L2 cache 3MB, 250 GB HD (90 GB free).
What I have done untill now:
    Re-install OSX plus programs
Reboot in safe mode (cold start with shift C pressed)
A number of reports generated after a forced Safari stop were send to Apple. (by the way what are they doing with these? besides not helping me?).
Just today I learned where to find the Safari cache file's which I will empty when I am back from work tonight.
I hope, with this additional information you have some more suggestions. In any way I will come back with the result of emptying the Safari cache.

  • How to share files between Mac booK pro and iMac?

  • How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp

How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external HD from the mbp, I get the following pop up window: The disk "external hard drive A" couldn't be ejected because "Lightroom" is using it. Quit that application and try to eject this disk again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - Select Catalog screen pops up but doesn't list my external hard drive A as a choice.
I've reviewed Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart Previews Lightroom 5 web page and still haven't been able to figure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Your internal HDD. by default, is named 'Macintosh HD'. From what information you supplied, it looks like there is already a Lightroom catalog installed on you local (internal) HDD using the standard naming convention Adobe uses as well as a Lightroom catalog on your external drive which you created. To be sure of which catalog Lightroom is loading when it starts up, To do this, start Lightroom as you normally would. After it starts, select the Lightroom menu item, then select the Catalog Preferences item and finally, navigate to the General tab. The Location information will tell you exactly what catalog Lightroom is opening by default. This will likely be the Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog on your external HDD. Once that is confirmed, you are ready to proceed. As an additional test/verification, you can shut down Lightroom and, this time, start Lightroom while holding down the ALT/OPTION key. This will cause Lightroom to pause and display a screen which will allow you to chose a different catalog to open. Navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file. When Lightroom comes up, there should be no previews or folders as this catalog should be empty. Now you can be certain which catalog is being used and which catalog has all your data and you are ready to migrate your current catalog. Shut down Lightroom.
To migrate your current catalog, use Finder to locate your Photography Mac Book Pro Versions folder on your external drive. Select the folder and select COPY from the context menu. Next, use Finder to navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder on you internal HDD. You can start at the Macintosh HD level and work your way down by opening each level (Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures). Select the /Pictures folder and then select PASTE... from the context menu. When the COPY/PASTE is complete, you should see the following files on the Macintosh HD:
    Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/ and
Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions
The Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder will contain the empty default catalog the Adobe created when Lightroom was installed and Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions will contain a copy of the catalog you created on your external HDD.
You are almost done now. Make sure your external drive is still attached for this step. Restart Lightroom using the ALT/OPTION key again. When the Select Catalog screen appears, select the Choose a Different Catalog button (lower left side). When you do, a Finder window will open to allow you to navigate to a catalog of your choosing. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions and select the file Photography Mac Book Pro Version.lrcat. This is the copy you just created. Select the Open button and Lightroom should start. You should see all of your previews and settings just as before. Also, in the left hand panel, all of your folder should show up and none of them should be dimmed and none of your previews should display a small exclamation point badge. Either a dimmed folder name or an exclamation point badge indicates that Lightroom can't find the associated image file. If everything looks good, go to the Lightroom menu, select Preferences and then select the General tab. Under Default Catalog, select an option to either load the LAST catalog opened or select the Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog from the drop down. Shut down Lightroom and then restart it normally. This time, when Lightroom starts, you should be viewing the new copy of your catalog. You can confirm this by looking at the General tab on the Catalog Preferences screen (Lightroom/Catalog Preferences menu items). Shut down Lightroom once again and this time, eject your external drive before restarting. This time, your folders in the left hand panel will be dimmed but you should be able to work with your smart previews. If Lightroom should display a Select Catalog screen with the external drive detached, double check your settings as it indicates Lightroom is still looking at the copy of the catalog on the external drive rather than the new copy you made.
Finally, if you are seeing dimmed folders and/or exclamation point badges with the external drive attached, this indicates a problem. You can select any folder and select Update Folder Location from the context menu. This will allow you to navigate to the copy on the external drive and select it. Lightroom will then update the catalog (select to synchronize the content). This will not only clear the dimmed folder problem but also remove the exclamation point badges for all photos in that missing folder. However, it may indicate that not all went well with the copy of the catalog so make sure to verify all went well. You can use the Get Info option on the two folders. You should see the same number of files/folders for both the copy on the internal drive as well as on the external drive but you can't rely on the byte count because of the possibility of differences between the geometry of the two drives. Hope this all helps!

  • Having trouble merging powerpoint or word files in single PDF in acrobat X professional on mac book pro

    Hi
I am having trouble merging word and poerpoint files into single PDF by acrobat X professional on a mac book pro. Error says its not supported format. Why is that? It works perfectly on windows. Is the feature of merging office files not enabled in Mac version of software?

    Hi Adam,
Welcome to the forums. They've really helped my Mac learning-curve since first getting a Mac in late April.
It sounds to me from reading the different ways you want to use your computer that you would be very well suited for the Macbook. I have the Macbook Pro but I got it about 3 weeks before the Macbooks came out. And I was quite upset. I use my computer mainly for word editing, watching DVDs and picture management. I will have to admit the 15.4" screen is great for side-by-side document editing, but aside from that, I would think that for my needs the Macbook would have been perfect.
For the money I spent on the low end Macbook Pro I could have gotten the fastest Macbook with 2GB RAM. Instead I have the slowest MBP with only 512MB of RAM which was painfully slow when multitasking. I upgraded to 1GB and it was a huge difference.
But really... I never use the video card. And since I love the portability of the Macbook Pro, another 2 inches off the body would be AMAZING since the 15" is a little big...
    That's my 2 cents.

  • CS6 resolution on Mac Book Pro Retina Display

The resolution for all CS6 programs on mac book pro retina is horrific. Will there be updates?! I am quite frustrated that I can barely see any of my type in Indesign.

InDesign has yet not came up with the retina display support update but yes we are going to have the support of retina display for most of the products eventually.

Open your Displays system preferences.  Is there an Arrangement tab and does it show two screens?  If no Arrangement tab then your mac does not know it has two screens.  Maybe smc and pram reset will shake it free and maybe not.  Maybe there's something wrong with the connection.  Thunderbolt plugs are similar to mini-displayport plugs so make sure the plug is pushed firmly in so that essentially all the metal part disappears inside the socket.  The plugs can be a little tricky in that you need to make sure the plug is fully seated in their socket.
If you do see two screens in the Arrangement tab then click Detect Displays and Gather Windows to get the Displays preferences of the other monitor on to your main monitor.  Check the resolution and if there is a refresh rate check that as well.

  • Mac Book Pro 17 inch screen - resolution??????

I have just been told by an Apple help line that if I buy the Mac Book pro with the 17 inch screen and choose the "high resolution screen" option, then I am stuck with that resolution and it can't be changed onscreen to a lower res? This can't be correct surely???? Surely I can use the display settings to go to a lower res. if I don't like the higher setting???

Hi! I'm not sure if you would be able to switch to a lower resolution, but I don't think you want to do it. Unlike old CRT-monitors, flat planels have a native resolution, and if you set them to another res, what you are doing is just resizing the picture (the monitor ONLY works at native resolution), therefore losing quality.

  • Can a Mac Book Pro playback 96K WAV files?

Trying to listen to a 96K WAV file through the headphone output of a 2009 Mac Book Pro.  Does anyone know if that is possible?

96K 24 bit.  I can play it back on my audio interface but I'm trying to find out if someone without an interface can hear an accurate version of a stereo song mix at that resolution.
