Low resolution when burning slideshow?

I have created a slideshow using iPhoto. It looks great when I hit the play button. But when I burn it to a CD and then play it (either on the same computer or a different computer) the quality of the photographs noticeably diminishes.
I can't find any settings to ensure that the CD version, played through Quicktime, is as sharp as the iPhoto preview or play version.
Any suggestions? (I've had the exact same problem when using iDVD: good quality in preview; poor quality when the project is burned to a DVD)

For the iDVD project, I dragged the photos from iPhoto into iDVD.
From the iPhoto Window? Or from the iPhoto Library Folder?
I wonder if, inadvertently, you're getting the thumbnails that iPhoto uses for display by doing it that way.
From the iDVD Help:
To create a slideshow in iDVD:
Click Media to open the Media pane, then click Photos to display your iPhoto albums.
Drag an album to the DVD menu. A button is created that links to the images. The button has the name of your iPhoto album and automatically displays the first slide in the slideshow.
There's more... but that's the basics of how they recommend it's done. Be interesting to see if quality improves doing it that way.

How can I increase resolution when burning a dvd with elements 11 premiere
I am trying to generate a slide show DVD....the pictures on the TV are poor quality

    Welcome to the forum.
As Steve points out, a DVD-Video is set in resolution, to 720 x 480 (for NTSC), in either Standard 4:3, or Widescreen 16:9. That is as good as it can get, and is not a limitation of PrE, but of the DVD-Video specs, which were written a long time ago.
The best that one can get is to play that DVD-Video on an up-rezzing DVD player, or most BD players, that also have up-rezzing, to an HD TV monitor. Those players have dedicated chips, JUST for up-rezzing.
Then, and per Peru Bob's questions, I attain the ultimate Still Images to DVD-Video, by doing my Scaling in Photoshop, and using either the Bicubic Sharper, or Bicubic Smoother Scaling algorithms. I Scale my Camera RAW Images to match my Project's Frame Size, and Crop, where necessary to match the Aspect Ratio of my Images, to the Aspect Ratio of the Project, i.e. if going to a 16:9 Widescreen, I will lose some pixels top and bottom, but I account for that, per my asesthetic.
Note: some PrE users insist that the Scaling in PrE is as good as Photoshop's, but my critical eyes point to using PS. Also, I do NOT use JPEG, which is a lossy, compressed format, and will Save_As PSD from Photoshop, for ultimate quality.
Good luck, and please let us know the pixel x pixel dimensions of your Images.

  • Low Resolution when uploading to online printing service

When I upload photos from iPhoto to an online printing service (Walmart, Costco, Shutterfly) photos show up as low resolution. When I take the picture I use the higest resolution. Are there any suggestions on how to rectify this situation? I have uploaded and printed before with no problem. Do I have to use the memory stick directly to the site or change settings?

How are you going about uploading?
Are you digging the files out of the DATA folder in the iPhoto Library Folder? If so, you're using the thumbnails that iPhoto uses for display purposes.
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
I suggest you use the File -> Export option and export the pics to the desktop. There iPhoto will make a copy. Upload that, and when the upload is finished you can trash the copy on the desktop - your original is safe in iPhoto.

  • Low resolution when printing photographs after editing in Iphoto

Hi there, I would be grateful for some advice. I took some photographs and imported them into Iphoto - they are all approx 3 MB. I edited some of them in Iphoto, cropped a few, did a few in B&W. I burned them onto a disc and took them into my local photo shop. They told me that the resolution was not high enough for them to be printed. When I looked i saw that the edited photos had been reduced to around 700KB. Why is this and what can i do???!!!

Burning them to disk via the Share menu creates a mini library on the disk intended for use by iPhoto only. What was used for the prints must have been the thumbnail files of the library.
What you need to do to get the edited and cropped photos to disk is export them to a folder on the desktop via the File->Export->File Export menu option. Use Kind=jpeg, JPEG Quality=Maximum, Size=Full Size. Then burn the folder of files to disk via the Finder.

  • Photoshop Text Blurry/Low Resolution when Printed

In photoshop I created a document that is 8.5x11, the size of standard printing paper, with a letter in a handwritten font. When I print my letter the print quality is not so great. I have resolution for the image set to 100. There is a little bit of a blur around the edges of the font and overall it is not very crisp.
If I take that same font when printed through microsoft word, it is very crisp, sharp and high quality.
What might be the disconnect between the two? Why is the same document much more crisp and clean when printed through word than through photoshop?
    Thanks

Here is a great video explaining the issue:
I would recommend a resolution at 300dpi, but that is often dependant on the image you are printing. I often set it at 300ppi for a photo quality.
Here is the link if the video doesn't display: http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/tools-tips/pixels-image-size-resolution-photoshop/
I hope that helps, please post back with any questions

  • Poor resolution when burning in IDVD

I'm trying to create a slide show using ken burns effects, transitions, music and then burn to a dvd to share with family. I was told the best way to do this is to create the slide show in I-movie, share it to I-dvd, and then burn it. When playing back the dvd on my computer or in a dvd player hooked up to my tv, the video (images) are horrible. The images have ripples in them. I use the highest quality encoding in the project info tab. When viewing the slide show in i-movie, it looks great. I'm using dvd+r discs. Any thoughts on how to fix this or is that the best I can do with i-dvd? I've noticed in this forum that other people seem to be experiencing the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I thought I'd mention a few things...
    1) Sometimes using high def pictures causes problems. The solution, to help prevent flicker for instance, is to use a "guassian blur" of about 5 pixels in photoshop. I assume aperature allows you to blur. Reducing the sharpness just slightly can help a great deal with some issues. Take a good look at your current project. Are there some photos which look better than others? If so, take note of those qualities. Sometimes light, color, texture, contrast, lens length make big differences for me. After doing this a while, you almost develop a sixth sense as to which photos will be problematic.
    2) Look at the speed with which are using the KB effect. KB will look a lot better if it's done slowly. Of course it's not as interesting but it reduces problems.
    3) Save as a disc image first, to make sure the problem is not in the burning or in the disc. Most in this forum recommend dvd -r for the final burn. Verbatim are very popular. And burn at 4x or less.
    4) I have tried photo to movie, and it's a nice app. I did find the colors grayed out, however. If you use photo to movie, you'll want to punch up the color in photoshop (aperature) before importing into photo to movie. I prefer imovie 6 myself.
I hope these comments are helpful. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

  • Photos uploaded via iCloud show lower resolution when saved to device

I took some photos with my iphone. They loaded to my workstation via iCloud. I edited them in photoshop to crop and enhance the colors. I then uploaded to ipad via iCloud. When viewed on the device from the photo stream the photo looks fine. But when I save the photo the the device (camera roll) the resolution is chunky.

I also have the same issue, but I have not figured out the cause.

  • Low resolution when hooking monitor up to MacBookAir

I purchased an HP ZR2740w monitor around a year ago and have been using it with my circa 2007 powermac which has a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card with 250mb of VRAM without difficulties at full resolution (2560 x1440). Well... I bought a 2012 mac mini (the latest) AND a brand new macbook air (2013) and using either the HDMI-DVI or the Displayport-DVI on the mini or the displayport to DVI on the macbook air the highest resolution I can get is 1280 x 720. When I go to monitor prefs there are only two options 1280 x 720 and 800 x 600. HP says it is not their monitor and I have discussed with Apple tech support and they are supposed to get back with me within 4 days. With them I reset the PRAM (or whatever its called nowadays). I find it interesting that this behavior is occuring with both the new Air and the mini. Any ideas?
BTW I have a 23" cinema display that is working fine with both. (1920x1200).
    Thanks,

  • Z230 with Firepro w2100 reverts to low resolution when the monitor is removed.

Hi all,Just wondering if anyone has a workaround for an issue I've found.I'm using a HP Z230 workstation that has an AMD Firepro w2100 in it. We're intending on running this machine headless and only accessing it remotely if we need to at all, however, as soon as the monitor (a HP p221 connected via a Dell DVI > Displayport adapter) is removed, and the machine is accessed remotely, it reverts back to 640x480 and becomes largely unusable for the purpose... I've read up on this a little and found that apparently it's part of the DP specification where it polls for a connected display, and if nothing is connected it will revert back for compatibility reasons, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to perhaps give the machine a "virtual" display or something akin to daemontools showing the machine there's virtual DVD/CD drive to mount an image with. Hopefully someone has seen this issue and found a way around it  Many thanks.

  • Imported image comes small and with a low resolution when trying to fill text

I am trying to fill my text with a texture or image.
    Heres my process:
I type my text, select it and click on the "draw inside" button.
I then go to place and select my image.
The image comes tiny with dimensions of x- 430mm and y-340mm.
Obviously when i stretch it out to cover the text, the image becomes blurry.
    Whats happening here?
    Thanks

    herms,
What happens if you start with (File>Place) the image/texture, then have the live/outlined Type on top, select both and Object>Clipping Mask>Make (if you have outlined Type, select all of it and Object>Compound Path>Make first)?

  • Low resolution images over dialup

For some strange reason, Safari seems to render images at a lower resolution when I'm connected to the Internet over dialup (Bluetooth dialup in my case, haven't tried regular dialup), no matter what my Display preferences are set to.
I've seen a couple prior posts asking similar questions, but no definite resolution. One person mentioned the "Total Access" features and a web accelerator perhaps being the cause, but I can't find anything like that either in the Safari or System preferences.
    Help?

    This is normal
An image requires a picture of twice the resolution to display properly on a Retina display, if not available it will double up the pixels or just stretch out to fill the space it should fill. Most websites were created before high resolution displays became popular and many either haven't bothered or just do not feel enough visitors use such displays to make updating their images worthwhile
When a non-Retina user loads a page with such images they still have to download the full size image, which could be another reason
As for program icons it will just be that the program is old

  • Converting my Lossless Format music to lower setting for burning/Ipod use

I have all my music saved to a HD in the lossless format and it unfortunately takes up a lot of memory when I want to burn to my IPOD and I don't get as many songs on the IPOD as I should. Is ITUNES set up to allow for a conversion to a lower setting when burning music to back to CD or IPOD so that I can get more songs on the device?
    Thanks.

You can convert your lossless songs to a compressed format in iTunes. It can't be done "on the fly" while updating an iPod. Unfortunately the option to "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" is only available on the Shuffle. For the larger iPods the files have to be converted in iTunes first or indeed have to been imported in a compressed format prior to transfer.:
