Low signal from mic

Hi, I am new to this. I have a Lexicon Alpha and AKG D44 mic plugged into Garageband. The system works but the input signals are very low - esp. when recording an acoustic guitar. What am I doing wrong? Thanks. Alex

Assuming you are using the 1/4" inputs on the Alpha:
The 1/4 inputs on the Alpha are not made to take your mic input.
You can try a 1/4" female phone jack to XLR male plug and plug into the XLR mic jack.
Which should give you the proper input for that mic.

If you are not happy with those results then I would suggest stepping up to a decent dynamic mic like a Shure SM57.

If it's slow on startup it would be extensions loading or LaunchDaemons starting up.
You should have a look in:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/Extensions
You can count out anything in your home folder and it shouldn't put anything in /System as that's reserved for Apple.

  • Intermittent/low signal from my wireless router

I am getting an intermittent or low signal strength on my wireless router WPC11 v.4.  Web pages are taking forever to load or do not load at all.  I believe this to be a router problem because a) when i connect right to my cable modem with a network cable (bypassing the router) I seem to be ok; b) if I go back thru the router but connect a netwrork cable from the router to my laptop, I seem to be ok; c) I sometimes see 5.5 or 2.0 Mbps instead of the normal 11.0.  On my router, the power, wireless-b lights are lit.  The Internet light continuously blinks rapidly.
Is there something wrong with my router?  Could it be the antennaes?  I have had this router for a few years now.  Some other problem?  I am not very technical so I hope I have described the problem as best I could in order to get some help.  Can someone please help me diagnose and resolve?  is there more info I can provide?

  • Real Time - Capture sound signal from Mic then store to memory.

    Hi people,
I wish to do a real time program that capture the data (+the ADC discrete digitized sound data+) from mic then store the data in memory...
Then my program retrieve the data continuously from the memory (as long as there are captured data from mic)
But i have no idea how JAVA deal with real time program that use memory to store the captured data.
i do know that JAVA do have class INPUTSTREAM to deal the real time thing that fetch the byte of data to program. But still wish to get more reference from here (never use this class before).
Please advise how can i start from "signal" the mic to store the captured data to memory and my program able to retrieve the data from memory then work my algorithm on it.
Or can correct me how actually i should store the captured data... i should store the data in memory or store the data as a variable?
MANY MANY MANY MANY thanks!!! Very appreciate for the advise and i will give my attempt :-).

    I m sorry..
I was intend to ask the correct way to store the digitized data from microphone.
As all my previous work were storing the keyboard input as an declared variable or store in local server database.
But this time i wish to store the captured and quantized sound data from mic and no idea where should i start from...
Please give me some advise please.
I dun wish to save what i captured as a .wav file then only process the .wav file data.
But wish to process the data that was captured at instant.
I m very appreciate for your advise here.

  • Logic not taking signal from mic

i'm using a rode nt-1a through a firebox, and logic isn't responding. the preference for both system and for logic show the firebox as the audio input source. any ideas?

+*Lets start with your hardware first. Lets assume all your connections are correct and cables are in good working order:*+
Is there anyway to verify that signal is getting to the Firebox from your mica such as an LED VU/db meter and is the preamp level set appropriately on the firebox? No signal here means no signal into Logic.
Can you hear any playback from Logic and the Firebox? Are there any other working inputs on the firebox such as SPDIF or Line Level 1/4 input? If so, it may be a bad input channel
    +*Possible Software Issues:*+
If the Firebox is setup as the default audio device for your MAC, deselect in the OSX System Preferences. The system may be taking priority of this device even though Logic recognizes it. This is usually not a problem on most systems however because most of professional audio devices are full duplex and can be accessed by multiple program at once.
When you create a track to record this microphone signal, are you not seeing or hearing anything with the input monitoring button engaged? Sometime you have to engage the record button first, to engage the the track. It's a strange bug that occurs on my system.

  • Very Faint Signal from Mic Running thru M-Audio Firewire Solo

I get a very faint signal running a condenser mic thru M-Audio Firewire Solo to GB. 1/4 guitar input in Solo records fine. Solo is selected as input in system preferences. All gain and recording levels are maxed. Any ideas?

It's a tube mic so it has its own power source/brick.  I've tested the mic with just its power source and its working great.

  • No signal from lexicon omega

    os 10.6.7 \ logic pro 8
I have a lexicon omega that I get signal from mic & the other inputs through the unit, but when connected to my macbook [usb] I cannot get anything to come through to record.  I currently do not have garage band or other recording software to cross check.
I installed the newest digidesign [7.4.2] core audio drivers, and still no input signal.

there are no osx drivers for omega, the core audio files from digidesign were recomended from a logic pro board I posted having these issues on.

  • Very low signal with new WRT54G (V7.2) comparing with my old BEF1W1154

I bought myself a new WRT54G router to replace my old (but good working) b-router. With the old router I have a great signal in/outdoors.
With the new g-router I experience a low signal , even in the room were I installed the router. In other rooms or outdoors I don't have a signal at all.
    Please advice

There are many causes for poor wireless connections, and many solutions:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
Some users have reported improved wireless performance by switching to WPA encryption.
If you continue to have problems, try the following:
For wireless g routers, try setting the "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps.
If you still have trouble, download and install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Yoga 3 pro - WIFI low signal

    On a brand new Yoga 3 PRO 1370 -
I am getting very low WIFI signal on all my routers.
Compared side by side : Think pad yoga and yoga 3 pro - the first one have full bars on signal , the 3 pro have only 1-2 bars and disconnect all the time.
Only when the laptop is very close to the router -  getting full signal bars.
Already removed and update the drivers twice . tried all configurations and power options - still very very low signal reception.
    Any ides ?

    XBrav,
Way to go, yes I do agree with XBrav wilkster. If you can check the screen shot that XBrav provided.

  • LENOVO S860 Poor Performance in Low Signal Locations

Just bought two of this phone (2 GB RAM international model) for myself and a colleague.
I'm really pleased with the build. However, I have to say it doesn't perform well in low signal locations and this is quite worrisome as I work in a low signal location so miss most of my daily calls. Such a brilliant phone can't be flawed by the most basic and important function.
LENOVO please release an update to fix this low signal problem asap. Thanks.

Am facing this issue from last four months, Lenovo is not interested in solving this problem. My suggestion is replace this with some other brand. Even Redmi 1s (INR 6000)  has better signal compared to Lenovo s860.

  • Extreme Base station can't extend signal from Mini desktop ?TCP/IP settings

I have a Mac Mini connected to DSL via a lynksys 8 port workgroup switch. I had 6 rooms in my house connected to the router by ethernet wiring. Worked great for several years. Now 2 rooms cabling seems to have gone bad (mice or squirrels, maybe). To avoid rewiring the connection outlets or pulling wire again (Ugh!), we bought an extreme base station. It transmits the internet signal fine when connected to the ethernet network (roaming), but I cannot get it to allow clients to access the internet in WDS mode.
The base station is in a central location where there is not an ethernet jack. It picks up the airport signal from the Mini (with extreme card and yes, I have the MAC address of the Mini chosen).
Internet connection is "shared" on the Mini and the laptops have no trouble accessing internet within close range of the Mini. The laptops can't access the internet through the base station. I suspect it's how the TCP/IP is assigned. I have tried every possible combination in the Airport Admin Utility.
In the WDS diagrams, it always shows 2 or more Base stations, never a Desktop and a Base. Are these incompatible?

...but can't figure out how for the Mini....
When you select "Share your Internet connection with AirPort-equipped computers," click AirPort Options to give your network a name and password.
Since they are the "same" network does it matter?
If one has no encryption or is using weaker encryption it will be the weak link for others to access your entire network.
Normally, if you want to seamlessly roam between the 2 wireless networks, ensure that they are using the same network name (SSID), same encryption type, same encryption level, and same encryption password. However any wireless device connecting to the Mac mini's network will be on a separate subnet.
Now I've got to figure out how to get files off the Office Desktop from the laptops, should I set up afp for airport or ethernet?
Enable Personal File Sharing on the Desktop.

  • Process audio from mic and play it back. (What is wrong with my code?)

Hi, I am trying to take the audio from the mic (at javasound://0), process it (add the JMF API sample plug in GainEffect.java) and then play the processed data source. The code I have so far is below.
I am getting no errors - compiles fine - but nothing seems to be happening.
The grand goal is to take the audio being captured from the mic and process it in real time using a plug in (not necessarily GainEffect) and also play it back (the processed audio) at the same time.
Where am I going wrong? Thanks!

The processor is realizing, and I am creating a player with the data source output from the processor, yet there still is nothing playing... which leads me to think that there is something wrong with my plug in implementation or my processor creation. Do you have any ideas or points in the right direction?

  • WMP600N - weak connection and low signal - Windows 7 x64

I bought the WMP600N because Linksys and Microsoft listed it as 'compatible' for Windows 7 x64.
    My experience:
    - unstable and weak connection
    - pings to websites like google.com drops, average: 1 out of 3
    - low signal, on the same spot my three years old HP-laptop with 'a build in wireless card' has full signal strength in Windows 7
    - it works well under Windows XP (32 bit)
I'am convinced that drivers for the WMP600N are not ready for Window 7 x64. Linksys (or Ralink, which developed the chipset), please release a proper driver for the WMP600N!

I'm not sure about you guys, but I use WMP600N and  running Windows 7 64bit without any issues. The driver that I'm using now is Driver Version: 3.0.2.0, Driver Provider: Ralink Techonolgy Corp, Driver Date: 6/19/2009. Here's what I did when I upgrded my wireless adapter. 1. Uninstall the original wireless driver from device manager. 2. Turn off the computer and phisically removed the wireless adapter from my computer. 3. Pop in the new WMP600N and turn on the computer. 4. Windows 7 then automatically detects the new adapter and intall the proper driver for it. Well, that's all I did. The whole process is very simple and straight forward.

  • Anyway to get a 1080p signal from fios?

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a 32 Inch Sony Bravia 720p but yet 1080p compatible HDTV. I know my TV is capable of receiving 1080p signals as most HDTV’s are in the modern era. However, Fios via the HD DVR only broadcast up to a 1080I signal. My question is this, is there anyway to get a 1080p signal from Fios or will 1080I have to be settled for? What I mean is under video options on the set top box the options are 480I, 480P, 720P and 1080I there is no 1080P option.

    BigDaddyTees wrote:
I’m sort of glad I didn’t opt for a 1080p tv then as in my case it probably would have been a waste, aside from playing BLU ray disk/HD video games. I’m someone who mostly watches their tv and occasional does other things with it (see above.)
All channels are already distributed in compressed format (typically MPEG-2). Some cable providers pass the local HD channels as they receive them, but virtually all apply additional compression on the cable HD channels (i.e. they re-compress). Verizon FiOS is the only major provider does not recompress any of its HD channels to save bandwidth. FiOS does recompress a few [mostly premium] channels distributed in MPEG4 format, but only to redistribute them in MPEG2 for those without MPEG4-capable receivers.
Not all content providers allocate and equal bitrate to their HD channels.  Most channels are distributed via rented capacity on satellite, and that costs serious money, especially for content providers that supply mutiple HD channels.  More budget consious content providers may use lower bitrates, either to minimize satellite carriage costs and/or make their channels more enticing to cable providers that face severe bandwidth constraints.  If a particular cable provider is constrained for bandwidth, they may be willing to add a $10,000 in time and equipment to recompress TNTHD -- a channel many demand -- but they may not be as willing to do the same thing for a lesser watched channel like HGTV.  Cable channels like ESPN, TNT, USA, SciFi, Hdnet, MHD, and CNBC all distribute their channels at fairly high bitrates, while cable channels like HGTV, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and the Science Channel are distributed with significantly lower bitrates.
Local broadcasters (ex: ABC/FOX/CBS/NBC) all have 19.4Mbps available to work with, but that must be split between the main HD feed, any SD subchannels for traffic/weather/etc, and a limited amount of PSIP guide data. Some broadcast networks also sell a portion of their bandwidth to other companies for commercial datacast purposes.  These days, it's very rare to find a network affiliate that uses anything close to 19.4Mbps.  Most independently owned NBC and CBS affiliates dedicate just 12-14Mbps to their HD feed, with the rest used for weather / traffic / news subchannels.  A 12-14Mbps feed is generally sufficient to provide a high-quality picture on 1080p24 sourced content like movies and episodic series -- albeit with some added blurring on motion -- but is often inadequate to provide a high-quality picture on native 1080i60 video with lots of movement, such as sports.  Today, the best network picture is typically found on CBS owned-and-operated affiliates, as they all devote at least ~16.0Mbps to their HD feeds.
Less bandwith for the HD feed translates into higher compression.  Generally, the first thing compression equipment does is is filter [out] shadow detail.  This includes fine details that you might see in faces, hair, and clothes.  After that, compression equipment will reduce the amount of motion information in the picture signal, resulting in more blurring. Compression may also reduce the color gradations in certain parts of the image. When all this is inadequate for a certain scene to achieve the desired bitrate set by the cable company or broadcaster, you'll start to see more obvious defects like blocking and/or stutter (dropped frames). This is most common in motion scenes, which require significantly more bandwidth than static scenes.
In an ideal world, Verizon FiOS would obtain full-bandwidth 19.4Mbps feeds from each ABC/CBS/NBC affiliate, but that just isn't an option without buying thousands of dollars in new equipment for each affiliate.  Most local networks use equipment that allows them to output their commercially-integrated channel at one bitrate and one bitrate only, so Verizon is stuck with the same feed used OTA.  Perhaps one day, when Verizon makes the move to MPEG4, it will offer to buy new new encoders for CBS and NBC affiliates in major markets, to provide the absolutely best picture available [anywhere] on those channels.  We can dream.

    Please help me

Unfortunately older G4 minis are very touchy about certain hi-res monitors when run from DVI. Hi-res in this case means any monitor whose resolution causes the pixel clock to be above 135 MHz. It is normally the case that 1680 x 1050 timing will have a pixel clock above 135 MHz, although there is no way to observe that directly from within OS X.
There are only two known work-arounds for the issue. One is to run the monitor over a VGA interface. The other is to use a program like SwitchRes X to lower the pixel clock below 135 MHz. If you choose to do the latter, write back if you'd like some guidance on how to do that.
