Low sound in vista

hi guys i have just reinstalled vista, and now i installed all the stuff of mr. daniel_k for audigy 2 zs but the sound is too low, much lower than before - 50% or more ( i had my zs unrecognized once by vista but before reinstalling vista), now i must put everything (vol in my speaker and in windows) in maximum to have the normal vol. I replug the card but still can't solve it.help me plz - i have never got this problem b4

It's a good idea to upgrade your BIOS with the latest avaliable from your motherboard vendor. Then you should optimize your BIOS for improved audio quality:
-Increase VGA Shared Memory Size if you are using an onboard graphics card.
-Set AGP Aperture Size (MB) to half of the system's RAM or lower.
-Toggle Peer Concurrency.
-Toggle Spread Spectrum Control
-Toggle Memory Hole
-Enable AGP Fast Writes if your graphics card supports it.
-Change PCI Latency Timer ( starting with 32).
-Invoke dual-channel memory mode on the motherboard. Systems that are not configured in dual-channel mode can experience crackling during games. For more information about invoking dual-channel mode, please refer to your motherboard manufacturer.
-Ensure that the SATA hard dri've is not conflicting with PCI memory resources. Changing to a different controller may help.
To fix your problem:
Try to disable onboard audio in your computer's BIOS, then unplug your card from the PCI slot1. After then, uninstall your onboard audio drivers, and do a cleansweep for your audigy drivers too.
Follow these steps for driver uninstallation:
1. Open Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - browse Sound, video and game controllers - right click on Creative SB Audigy 2 - Uninstall - in the new window, select "Delete driver software for this device" then click OK
2. In Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs also uninstall all Creative software (including Audio Console)
3. Browse to the C:\Temp and C:\Windows\TEMP (if it exists) folders. All files and folders in the temp folder need to be either deleted or moved to a new folder.
4. Browse to Program Files, Creative and delete the Sound Blaster Folder. If a file won't delete, right click on the file, click Properties and clear all the Attributes. The file should then be able to be deleted.5. Restart your computer in safe mode, and delete the remaining files and clean your registry with Driver Sweeper.
5. Empty the Recycle Bin and shut down your PC.After this, choose an other PCI slot for the card. If it's possible, put your card to the farthest slot relati've to your graphics card. After you turn on your computer, cancel the Windows hardware recognition, and install?either driver you want (I recommend you to use the officially avaliable?2.2.0002 driver to fix your volume?problems?till the 2.8.0000. It will come in late July or early August.) After the driver installation, set Full Range speakers in Vista's speaker configuration, and do the speaker test. Then set 2.0 settings, and you're done.
Good luck, and don't hesitate to post any questions if you need further assistance.

Do you use Toshiba factory settings? YES
Which OS do you use? VISTA
Do you have the same problem using headset? NO
I have narrowed it down a little more. It is only when I am connected to my wireless network. I can have Wi-Fi enabled, and connected to the internet via a mobile internet connection and there are no issues.
When I am connected via the router, I have this issue. You could say it is the router, however I have various other machines connected to the same router, without issue.
    So, to clarify.
WiFi on - not connected to internet via router, however connect by other means - All ok

  • Very low sound volume on Portege R500

The sound volume on my R500 (R500-11c to be exact) is ridiculously low. Only with volume maxed out (100) and using headphones do I hear anything at all, and even then it's way too low to be useful. I can just make out the test sounds in the left and then right earphone when using the test sound found at Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers (there are no Headphones to be selected) -> Properties -> Advanced -> Test. Unplugging the headphones I hear nothing from the speakers, due to the (very low) sounds made by the fan and HDD. Playing music (with headphones) I can just make out that sounds are being produced, but I can't even make out what is playing.
I've tested the things mentioned in the "Satellite 5105-S901 Sound is very low (even on max volume) using supplied Toshiba driver" thread with no success (including Loudness Equalization).
I'm running Vista Business 32bit, and have tried the driver_audio_realtek26117B.exe, driver_audio_realtek_TC00157600B.exe, and Vista_Win7_R243_x86.exe driver files, and also used the util_mute_off_25847B.exe utility.
Enabling mute makes the already faint sounds go completely silent, so I don't think it's a mute issue.
Jack detection does work, I can see that in the Realtek HD Audio Manager program. Using that program's sound test (Speaker Configuration) I have to go to a completely silent room, and even then I only hear something in the right earphone. (I think; it's so darn low I could be imagining I hear it.)
Decreasing the sound volume slider from 100 does make the almost inaudible sound even harder to even notice, and at around 45 it is no longer audible even in a quiet room with headphones.
So it seems that I somehow need to reset the audio chip to "normal" level. Or it is broken and can't output anything more audible.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can try next? I can boot to XP or Linux if anyone has any ideas on how to get sound there, just to get started. (They're silent as well, I haven't done as extensive testing under those as under Vista.)

    Hello, and thanks for answering.
Yes, I have tried increasing the volume in control panel -> Realtek HD audio manager. No success.
I have used a bunch of different drivers, both from toshiba's website and realtek's.
Recently did a fresh XP install on another hard drive (don't have Vista install media), tried both 5.10.0.5869 and 5.10.0.6066 drivers (5.10.0.6066 is from march 13, 2010), sound still as low no matter what I do.
Did the really desperate thing: bought a new (used) sound module on ebay ("Toshiba Portege R500 (PPR50E-00L048EN) USB jack" on ebay.co.uk), but it has the same problem as the original one.
A hardware problem... well maybe, I was thinking perhaps the sound module doesn't get enough power from the motherboard, but since there is some sound (although very low), the USB jack on the module works, the headphone/mic jack detection works, and the diagnostics found in the Control Panel all say that the device is working OK, I don't think it's a hardware problem.
I'm guessing there is a problem with the drivers initializing the sound to a ridiculously low setting, and increasing the volume level to 100 makes it go up to a level equal to perhaps 2 in a regular system. That should be solved by a fresh install, but it isn't.
Perhaps the BIOS messes up the sound? But re-flashing the BIOS doesn't help...
    Anyone got any other ideas?
I've googled and found people having problems with low sound volume on other laptops using the ALC262 chip, but no general solution.

  • Low Sound - A505-S6960

Why is the sound from my laptop speakers low ??. I mean Harman/Kardon speakers should be better. I recently upgraded to WIn 7. Had same problem with Vista too. When i use headset the sound is great but the speaker sound sucks.... Any Ideas.. Thanks

Here's one suggested fix that works for many who experience the low sound issues on laptops which use the Realtek HD Audio drivers. These directions are for Windows 7, other operating systems may require a slightly different set of steps.
First, Download and install the latest Realtek HD Audio drivers from the Realtek website. If the ".exe" or executable file version of the Realtek HD audio driver is downloaded, this file may need to be run twice (run installer, reboot computer, run the installer a second time, then reboot the computer a second time) to properly install the audio driver.
Second, once the audio drivers have been updated, enable "Loudness Equalization" on either the Start --> Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Realtek HD Audio Manager --> Sound Effects tab, then click OK to save the setting change. Or on the Start --> Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Sound --> Speaker Properties (select Speakers then the Properties button) --> Enhancements tab, scroll down the list of sound effects to enable "Loudness Equalization" then select the OK button to save the setting changes.
Once the Realtek drivers have been updated and the "Loudness Equalization" has been enabled the system sound audio level is much louder, however the DVD and Audio CD audio levels might continue to be low for some users. Some find that setting the Equalizer, found under the Realtek HD Audio Manager Sound Effects tab or on the Speaker Enhancement tab, to "Powerful" seems to help with the sound levels.

it must be bothering you if you want to go back to vista. does that happen to have realtek audio? if so go to control panel and look for realtek hd audio manager. then under the sound effects tab check the box next to loudness eq.this should help. if you dont have realtek let us know which one you have.

    Hi saiyed adil,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It appears that your iPhone 5s sometimes produces low sound, but a restart corrects it.
It can take some time to isolate and resolve intermittent issues like this one, and I'd recommend going through the steps in this guide the next time it occurs:

  • Iphone 4s really low sound

    Hello,
From some months I experience the problem with the sound of the iPhone 4s. The sound is really low. You can only hear it if you put your ear very near to the speakers. I've tried everything. Settings -> Sounds to max. Restarting the iPhone. Once I've played Flappy Bird, the sound like fixed itself for 2-3seconds. From low sound it turned very loud but for 2-3 seconds. Then I've tried Restoring the iPhone to its factory settings - nothing again. I lost and my Flappy Bird...
So my Question is - can we fix the sound problem and return my flappy bird? I can't download it from the gamecenter.

  • My ipod touch 4 has low sound and mostly hiss on playback.

My ipod touch's video playback (ie. taking a video and playing it back with the camera) is suddenly malfunctioning.  It's almost a year old and no other issues previously.  It hasn't been dropped or contaminated.  I record video, and when I play back mostly what I hear is a loud hiss, and only barely audible low sounds such as talking.  Any ideas?  I recently updated is there any way to revert?  Also after update the video and camera functioned locked up as I was trying to use them.  Thanks!
Nothing is blocking my speaker, no case, and I did already try cleaning it.  Audio playback is fine elsewhere.

I don't know about the timing of my issue, maybe microphone sensitivity was adjusted in the software update?  However, my device was just out of warranty, so out of desparation (I use my video for baby stuff and I neeeed it , I stuck a straight pin in the mic hole and swirled around, it works just fine now.  There was no visible dirt in the hole, it hadn't gotten dirty, I take good care of it, and yet something must have been in there.  The mic works now after the pin fix, and I've seen several other places it has worked for others, wouldn't use this fix maybe if you're still in warranty.

  • Low sound levels in Photo Booth and Imovie

I am a new Mac user and I am trying to record a short video to email using the built-in Isight camera. I have tried to use Photo Booth and Imovie and both of them produce videos with very, very low sound levels. You can barely hear it even when turned up to the max. I have checked the Sound preferences, and it is set to the built-in microphone, about mid-level. I've tried cranking it up to the max and with and without Use ambient noise reduction checked. It has no effect. How do I get a decent sound level? It is unusable at this point. I've updated my Software and repaired permissions, and still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the response. I checked my midi audio settings and they are at the suggested rate. I called up an Apple support tech, and after trying a few things he basically said the internal mics are junk and go buy an external one. In the mean time, I've cranked up the sound levels to max, so I can hear it a little, but there is a ton of background hiss. I've done a web search and several people have reported this problem. so I think it might be something besides junk mics. Why do they install them if they are completely unusable? Thanks again. I'll try trashing the sound pref's too.

  • Lower sound Zen Vision Plus than Zen Micro Pho

Hello! I have had Zen Micro/Zen Micro Photo in -2 years, before I this year switched to some Asono player, but the sound was low on that, and I wanted to go back to Creative for it's quality and sound. So I bought the new small Zen Vision Plus, very satisfied with video & other cool new functions! And to secure me a good sound, I bought big Creative headphones for 400 NOK, and they are very good with good sound and base(bass). But whenever I used the MP3 player, the sound dissapointed me, I also tried with the default earphones which followed, and the sound is still not as high as on Creative Zen Micro/Photo.My friend has Creative Zen Micro the old one, and we started the same song at the same time on both our players, and tried with the default headphones and the new headphones which I bought. And belei've you me the sound on his MP3 (Zen Micro) was much louder then on mine. So it is dissapointing to see that I am stuck with this MP3 with lower sound. I love the design & functions on Zen V Plus, and love the sound on Zen Micro. So I don't want to go back to Zen Micro. Is there some way to fix this? Some sort of upgrade? Or has it something to do that the MP3 in USA has lower sound and MP3 in Europe has higher, or the other way around? How do I check where my MP3 is from?I hope someone here has tips & tricks or solution to this problem, very annoying that my MP3 is "almost perfect"! I got to go play tennis now, waiting for a positi've reply, thanks a lot guys! Every single post is helpfull, thanks again!

well man all i can say is...bigger isnt always better. I have a Zen Micro Photo, its about a year old, i just have regular good ol target special headphones and its loud enough to blow an ear drum. Sometimes if i dont feel like?wearing headphones, i just turn it all the way up and set the headphones on my desk or something. sooooooooooooooooo i would just stick to the stuff you know is good...plus the micro photo is BAMF

  • Low sound web cam

New L505-S5988 64 Bit. Windows 7. Very low sound when I use the web cam mic. (The person at the other side does no hear me). Can anybody please help me? Thanks.

I don't know the Web Cam you have there but I assume it's just a USB camera w/ microphone.
You didn't mention which soundcard you are using but in generally, you connect the microphone cable into pink jack connctor, open the microphone source channel and set recording source to microphone (or "What U Hear" if you like to play some background music there too). As I do not know the software you have there, I give instructions for Windows Play/Recording Controls only.
    start run.. sndvol32
--> this command opens you the mixer panel for play sources - enable the microphone and set it's level (you can boost the signal 20dB (press advanced button))
start run... sndvol32 /r --> this command opens the mixer panel for recording source - enable microphone and set the recording level (you can set the 20dB boost here too)

  • Low Sound Vloume & webcam

I've recently bought a Toshiba laptop (Satelite L500-13) which does not have satisfactory sound volume, sound is extremely low...and other thing is the picture quality of the webcam is worst that made me disappointed!
Please advise how to solve these.

As to the web camera video quality, these integrated web cameras will NOT give video camera quality video. And it appears that these integrated cameras are in the 1 MegaPixel range which also affects the video image quality. If the Toshiba Web Camera Application version is installed check the Settings page and experiment with the Profile setting to improve the video quality as well as the settings on the Advanced tab, also reducing the size of the video display window from 640x480 to a smaller video window size like 320x240 might also improve the video quality. And the amount of light in the room might also affect the image quality.
