Low sync rate.

Hi,
I am experincing a speed problem, where the downstream sync rate just stays at 1000-1500kbps, where it was usually at 2500-3500kbps. It was working perfect, until this happened. If I leave the HH off for 30 minutes, and turn it on, it connects at
(ITU-T G.992.1; downstream: 3776 kbit/s, upstream: 448 kbit/s; output Power Down: 18.1 dBm, Up: 11.9 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 58.0 dB, Up: 31.5 dB; snr Margin Up: 19.0 dB, Down: 6.1 dB)
, but after a few minutes, it drops to
(ITU-T G.992.1; downstream: 1184 kbit/s, upstream: 448 kbit/s; output Power Down: 14.8 dBm, Up: 11.9 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 58.0 dB, Up: 31.5 dB; snr Margin Up: 19.0 dB, Down: 6.2 dB)
and the SNR Margin Down increases to 13dB. It looks like the Target SNR is set at 12dB at DLM/bRAS, how can I reset it to 6dB or go through the restabilization period again? It is quite annoying at times because I use online gaming and YouTube and it doesn't want to work.
Thanks
Josh

There's probably 3 things IMHO that would cause that kind of degradation.
An over-subscribed dslam or line card .....  (but it wouldn't raise SNRm)
External REIN on the line ....  which would.
or a high resistance line fault .... with (probably) audible noise on the line, or poor field connection.
The dslam will be trying to enforce target 6db ... DLM is pushing it higher, and forcing the resync, possibly to LOS ... loss of signal .... or multiple CRCs in short timeframe.
The above assumptions are based on your statement about having no internal REIN issues however.

  • Re-sync at lower bit rate

decided to re-sync my downloaded music at a higher bitrate , and by doing so i used up nearly all of my available storage space on my phone.  I would like to return to the lower bit rates for my entire collection of downloads, but not finding any tools to do this, any thoughts?

kiho - You got it! As you probably noticed, "Convert" in iTunes actually means "create a new copy." After conversion, you will have both versions in your library, so if you don't want the 320s any more, delete them. If you have playlists with the 320 versions in them, you can manually replace the songs with their new lower bitrate counterpart - that does not happen automatically. -Ed.

If I have converted my purchased iTunes songs to a lower bit rate what will happen when I join iTunes match? Will they match up or will these be stored as duplicates of the same song?
I ask because I primarily use my work laptop which has limited space so I usually convert my purchases to 160k from 256k in order to save space. I want to sign up for iTunes Match but I'd like to know before I do so I can understand how I will have to set up my library.

What I may do is start a brand new library there, copy my tracks from my work laptop using Home Share and then the script to get things in sync before starting over again there too.
Why create a new library? Just add the tracks from the laptop to the existing library on the Mac.

How do you mean? If you down-convert purchased tracks you've fundamentally changed the files so iTunes can no longer recoginize them as "purchased." And, indeed, they no longer are since they are brand new files. Of course these new files will only be "matched" or "uploaded."

  • Low sample-rate measurements on the PCI-6115 DAQ card

I need to measure an analog signal at a sampling rate of a few tens to hundreds of Hz in sync with the rising edge of an external clock. I have a PCI-6115 DAQ card w/ Labview 6.1 and NI-DAQ 6.9.2. The PCI-6115 is a high speed card and has a minimum sample rate of 10 KS/s. Is there any way of implementing a low sampling rate measurement using the PCI-6115 in sync with an external clock?
    Thanks in advance.

    Kuldeep,
It is possible to do what you are describing above (in fact I don't think an external clock is required to do this), however, bear in mind that the reason for this minimum sampling frequency is due to the ADCs used on this high speed board. The ADCs used are pipelined ADCs, meaning that when a signal is digitized, it is digitized in distinct stages within the ADC (in the case of the 6115, I think there are 3 stages involved). Data is moved from one stage of the ADC to the next each time a sample clock pulse is recieved. If too much time elapses between these clock edges, the signal to be digitized can actually 'leak' off of the ADC. This can result in improper digitization, which can lead to less accurate measurements. So, while it is possible to mak
e the device sample below it's minimum rate, it may be advisable to sample faster than the rates required by your application, and either average multiple data points per measurement, or throw away extra points taken.
    I hope this helps,

  • Verizon DSL - High "Speed (down/up)" Low connection rate

    Hello -
I am doing this for myin-laws, who live in a semi-rural area.  They have Verizon DSL, and have been having very slow connection speeds for the past few months (they have the 1.5-3 Mbps, and are getting between 200-700 kpbs.  Sometimes, for a few seconds, it can get as high as 1.1 Mbps, but it never gets to 1.5.
I have tried lots of things.  We got a new modem, reset the D-Link router to factory settings, plugged the modem directly into the desktop, rebooted everything, then rebooted again, called Verizon and talked with their overseas people, who said they would have someone look at it.
Everything, no dice. So I'm not sure what to do.
Here's one thing I noticed, however.  When I go into the Modem sign in screen, and look at it (It's the Red sign in, not the Blue, on a Westell 6000 DSL modem), they get a very high "Speed (down/up)" level.  Something like 1740 down, and 500-something up.
But the actual downloads are nothing like that.
    Is that significant to anything?
My other situation is that I am not at their computer now (I am back in the city).  When I left their place, I did not know about these boards, and I can't remember any of the other information that is from the modem sign-in.  That one piece, however, seemed strange to me (a high "Speed (down/up)" level, but slow reality.
As you think about it, could that lead to any clues or solutions I should look for the next time I go up there?
    Thanks for reading this.

The closest proper sync rate that the modem would show for speed would be 1792/448Kbps, which would be the 1.5Mbps provisioning of the 1.5-3Mbps package. Verizon usually configures the speed lower if the line is not capable of holding a full 3Mbps or even an "optimized" flavor of it (which is ~2600kbps down, 640kbps up). Anyways, the next time you get the chance, I'm going to need the following information from their line:
1: What do their modem Transceiver Statistics look like? If running a Westell modem, visit http://192.168.1.1/ , choose System Monitoring, Advanced Monitors and then click Transceiver Statistics. Post up what you see there. For ActionTec modems, check the Status pages of the ActionTec for DSL Stats. The address to ActionTecs are the same.
2: Find out if the slow speeds are taking place all the time, or only during the evening hours
3: Go to http://visualroute.visualware.com on their PC and choose the closest server to them. Let the Java applet load, and when it does it will show you a "Trace" box with your relative's IP address filled in. Press Trace and let it complete. When it completes, move the mouse over the second-last Circle (second from the right) and take down the name of it. If you see "ERX" in the name, please tell me.
If you are prompted for a Username/Password while doing Step 1, try the following:
    admin/password
    admin/password1
    admin/admin

  • Wild swings in BT Infinity 2 sync rate.

Got connected at the start of July. BTHH5 listed maximum data rate at 21000 something up, capped at 19999 and between 73000 something and 74000 something down. After the modem decided to start chucking off the wireless devices, a factory reset was required, which reduced the down by about a 1000 or so. Then a couple of weeks later, the maximum data rate went up to 97000 something down, capped at 79999, and 33000 something up, capped at 19999. This was clearly good news, as speed tests now came out at 75 meg down, and the same 19 meg up on the iPad Air, while as the previous down throughput was 67-68 meg at best. Now I know these are good figures anyway, but considering we live so close to the street cabinet, I'd thought we might get the max speeds anyway. Ex hurricane Bertha comes through and the max line speeds dropped back to their previous values, although curiously as the modem didn't re-sync, we maintained the higher sync rates. That was until today, when the HH5 played up again, this time bringing the 5Ghz band only used by the iPad to a grinding near halt, while the 2.4Ghz band continued as normal. Another hard factory reset seems to have cleared that, but the modem has now synced at the lower speeds again. Is there anyway of regaining the faster sync speeds, or do I just have to wait another few weeks and see the sync speeds increase again? These are the current stats,
    1. Product Name: HomeHub5
    2. Serial number: +076284+1402007930
    3. Firmware version: v0.07.01.0235-BT (Type B) Last updated [Unknown]
    4. Board version: 01
    5. VDSL uptime: 0 days, 00:21:39
    6. Data Rate: 19999 / 72757
    7. Maximum Data Rate: 21196 / 72761
    8. Noise Margin: 6.8 / 6.1
    9. Line Attenuation: 0.0 / 10.3
    10. Signal Attenuation: 0.0 / 0.0
The noise margin figures increased significantly when the faster sync rate was achieved, I thought it should be the other way round? The line attenuation has always been either 10.3 or 10.4 down.

We have in the past had occasional noise on the line, usually after it's rained hard. This has led to a complete loss of phone and broadband service. Initially the line has been completely dead, followed by a return of some dial tone, drowned out by a hissing, scratching noise, etc, with the phone ringing randomly. Obviously have reported this line fault each and every time to BT. However by the time they come round, 3 working days later, the fault has gone and they can find nothing wrong. Been repeatedly told they can't do anything unless the fault is present when they come round. I tell them, well come quicker then, which elicits a blank response, and the cycle continues. I've been told it's probably a battery fault. This hasn't happened for some time (touch wood). The last time, the line just went completely dead. They switched the line at the street cabinet, which led to the line attenuation increasing significantly on the old router stats, and a drop in ADSL2+ sync speed. Was suggested that they may have piggy backed the line to another adjacent street cabinet. There often seems to be someone there doing something. Many people in our street and beyond have had the same problems, with loss of service in some cases in the weeks!
P.S. The previous HH5 hard factory reset required all the wireless devices to be reconnected manually. This hasn't happened this time, all the devices just picked up the connection again. Is this normal? Could it in some way suggest that the hard reset wasn't a hard reset, even though I stuck the pin in the back of the modem?
P.P.S. I can't do the quiet line test at the moment.

  • Encode at a lower bit rate when uploading to iPod nano 2nd gen

There is a feature that I liked when I used to put my music on my Motorola SLVR. When I synced my phone with iTunes I had the option to re-encode my files at a lower bit rate (I believe it was aac 128). I there a way to enable this feature for the iPod nano 2nd gen?

On-the-fly conversion is only available on the iPod shuffle. The iPod shuffle (probably because of it's limited capacity) has the option to "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC". This option is not available for any other model iPod. For the larger iPods the files have to be converted in iTunes first or indeed have to have been imported in a compressed format prior to transfer

  • Download sync rate is now 53meg but upload is stil...

Im Curious as to why my download sync rate is going up but the upload isnt even budging, infact its getting lower, doesnt make sense, why would the dlm give a me a good down stream and not upstream, its using the same cable, so if the dlm thinks i can handle 53meg, why wont it increase the upload speed as well, i have noticed that after the initial boot up of the router the upload sync speed is around 11meg but as soon as the link connects, the upload will drop to 7.50meg, would be nioce to have a better upload, i have tons of data i want to move to cloud storage.

My sync speeds have recently dropped from 79976 kbit/s and 20000 kbit/s with actual speeds of 70Mbps and 16Mps to 71832 kbit/s and 19992 kbit/s which have resulted in actual speeds of 67Mbps and 14Mbps.
I assume that it is not a profile drop as the decrease is so small.  But I'd be interested in checking.

  • New stream, low upload rate... Optimal Settings for streaming games?

I've been fiddling around with FMLE for the past few days/weeks and trying to find the best quality to stream quality games such as Bad Comapny 2, Starcraft 2, Mass Effect 2, etc
I am able to play games at max settings, but when I do the stream will lag so I choose to make the settings low enough so I can stream.
The only probably right now is they seem quite blurry/pixelated - which is probably due to my upload rate of 0.8mbps from SpeedTest.net1
    My specs are:
Resolution of 1680x1050 (Most of my games like Bad Company 2 are played at 1280x720 windowed mode)
    i5-2500K
    GTX 560 Ti
    12GB Ram
    1TB Hard Disk Space
    Windows 7 64bit
Upload rate of 0.8mbps (and 5.0mbps download incase it is needed)
http://www.justin.tv/mrshotzzzz/videos - Bad Company 2 at the moment... There seems to be a LOT of blurryness, but it seems quite smooth.
http://www.twitch.tv/mrshotzzzz/b/293073526?id=293073526&channel=mrshotzzzz - This is my latest... (skip to 1:25 where I configure it to be good)
When I fullscreen it, around the edges mainly, I see it is pixleted.
I use 1280x720 input, and 640x360 output with 800kbps. Is it possible to make it better?
Would an output of 640x360 with a bitrate of 650kbps be better?
Would an output of 854x480 be better?
Could changing my input size to 1920x1080 make my quality better?
tl;dr What is the optimal settings for a good specced computer, but with a low upload rate (0.8mbps)?

    Hi,
In iChat 3 or iChat 4 setting System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming to 1.5Mbps is quite important.
In Tiger (10.4.x) the Automatic Setting here is read as Zero by iChat and can cause issues even when the Speed is high enough.
In Leopard for iChat 4 this Automatic setting is read as 384k by iChat (although this is the Minimum for a 4 way Video chat it may still cap your Internet Speed).
If you have to change this iChat will need a restart if open.
The real controlling factor is the Upload speed the Internet Connection speed has.
There is one other place to help with the Bandwidth/Internet Connection speed.
This is in iChat menu > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit drop down.
This can be changed during A/V chat and changes to the Bit rate iChat is using is shown in the Connection Doctor (Video Menu).
This is best used when Really Fast Buddies (Processors and Internet Speeds) can tend to "Over-run" lesser speeded Buddies. It can also help if your ISP manages the Bandwidth/Internet Connection speed making it run slower or faster at different times of the day (Also look at Fair Usage Policies).
There is no independent way to reduce the Frame rate that would have a direct effect on this.
There are other apps that do use less demanding picture quality that in turn effects the Frame rate which can effect the Bandwidth needed/Used
    See this link http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page5.html#_other
Scroll to numbers 5 through 8 for Apps, 9 through 12 for Web Browser options.
    13 is a PC app.
14 & 15 works in Video only to MSN Buddies.

    Hi,
I have a basic loader swf, which loads several external swf's and displays them in a browser. And how can I get it to run at the same frame rate as the others.
There is some heavy animation in all the external swf's but that does not seem to affect any other files, only this one. Also, the animation is not heavy throughout, though the low frame rate persists...

  • Better compression at lower bit rates

I've not had much luck getting good h.264 compression from AME at lower bit rates. Are there some secrets that someone has shared? I used to be quite adept back in the day, so it's frustrating having to upload giant files to Vimeo. Any good guidance?
I should be more specific. It seem like close to 5 Mbps is need for full HD, but I remember Flash expert Fabio getting great results in less than 1:

It would be great if AME had some addition controls.

Actually, you cannot hear the difference when the background noise is loud, or example, public transport. I suggest that one uses a noise cancellation headset. $$$

  • Broadband Sync Rate down

    Hey Guys,
Since the upgade to 21CN I had been getting a pretty reliable sync of 11.5mb/s with download speeds of up to 10Mb/s. I recently switched to a new modem/router and when I did I discovered that I am now syncing at about 8.5Mb/s which is a bit of a drop. I only ever noticed one disconnect on the old router, so as far as I knew it was stable, but it (a Linksys) was very lacking in the connection stats front)
I did have a mystery disconnect with the new router, however I was making changes to the Wi-Fi config at the time so it is concievable that the change caused the router firmware to reset the link for some reason.
The new router gives better diagnostic stats.

Which backs up the 20days+ figure. I also checked the router log which only goes back to Feb 10, but there are no connection drops or reconnections logged in that time, so I guess at worst a min of 9 days continuous uptime. As a final datapoint the sync rate is the exact amount that I noted the last time it connected (after I inadvertantly knocked the PSU plug out ), which would tend to coroboratethe idea that there have been no retrains in the last 20 days.
I was toying with the idea of letting it run another 10 days or so to see if it eventually does the right thing - and then force a retrain? But maybe it is time to ask the mods to give it a little prod to see if this new router can be as stable at the default noise margin.

  • Lower Data Rates for VoWLAN

When I take a look in the deployment guides I could see that I should not use data rates in the 802.11a network below 12mbit. We do not expect more than 6 calls and 8 phones on one access point but would like to raise the coverage by using 6mbit data rate. We could not place more access points. Is there someone with experience using lower data rates?
Using:1252 Access Points and WISM Controller

Allowing speeds from 6 Mbps can technically work, but the recommendation is also to avoid retries... the larger your cell, the more chances you have to have multipath issues making packets fail. With a voice deployment, if you have more than 1 % error rate, your MOS degrades below 4.1 (the quality of the call is affected and users start complaining that voice conversation is unstable, choppy etc).
So allowing 6 Mbps is fine, but the result will depend on the quality of your RF environment...
    hope it helps
