Low Tech Gal in need of iPOD help...bad!
I have a 60 Gig Color Display, have managed to successfully download songs, but have a problem with transferring videos/movies. The iPOD plays them, but there is no audio. I surfed the web last nite and found others had same problem, but saw no real solution. They are MP4 files and not mult-plexed. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I have a business trip later today and wanted to use the movie feature....heck, I'll even give ya a prize since answers are so hard to come by on here

I'm not able to play videos on my iPod, just photos. Yes you are correct about the Video on/off button. Do the below and maybe that'll work. Let me know.
You may have the TV Out video setting turned on.
To check, navigate on your iPod to Videos > Video Settings
Select TV Out to set it to Off or Ask.
If the issue continues, make sure you are accessing the video through the Videos menu.

I just got a new iPod that's 120 GB because I was running low on disk space on my computer. So I added my entire music library which is about 8,000 songs, 50 videos, Photos and some IMPORTANT files to its drive. The iPod was working fine so I deleted all that music from my PC. Then suddenly yesterday the iPod froze so I tried to reboot it by holding center + menu. Now when I try to turn it on it asks me to connect it to the computer/iTunes. iTunes says I gotta restore it hence losing ALL my music, video and files I have stored there.
Obviously I can't restore it or there goes all my music and videos. PLUS important files that I desperately need for work....
I can't go into the iPod's hard drive because it says I gotta restore it when i try, so how do I get it to unlock it self from restore mode?!?!?!
please help, I'm gonna go crazy because I can't lose these files that I stored in there. Not to mention I deleted all the music files from my computer, so basically I loose all my music because I always give away my Cd's. Bad move... You could so easily have your iPod lost, stolen, damaged or, as it is now, in need of restore. Thankfully there's reasonable scope for optimism in this last case.

Many of the recovery tools rely on the iPod having a valid library, which if it's in restore mode is unlikely. The manual method referred to in Zevoneer's post should work regardless.
Depending on just how you put the pictures on the iPod you may be out of luck if you've deleted the orginals. Unless you included the option for "full resolution" images it will just have a libray of thumbnails. Some tools may recover these but the detail will be lost. If the originals have been put on the iPod iTunes will have assigned them names based on their dates rather than their original titles so you'll have to reconstruct these by hand.

I sit with the following dilema:
I have a Classic 160gb that refused to load more than 3267 songs, I have tried all your advise on various forums all over the world to sort this out but am stuck.
My ipod no longer is shown in Itunes, and shows in Windows & as a prtable storage devise.
I have reset, reinstalled, tried to format , tried to checkdisk in command function
And nothing, even tried on other pc's and is not recognised........
It simply froze whilst upload last week and now is as useful as a doorstop

DavidI think your iPod is finished. It shouldn't have been "freezing" so much that you had to drain the battery, but now I suspect you've killed the battery as well (Li-On batteries don't like to be drained).

Because you can only synce with one iTunes library and you are switching libries by using the new computer. To nake this yyour syncing computer:
- Move all the media(apps, music, synced video and photos etc) to the new computer.
- Connect the iPofd yo the computer and bake a backup fo the iPod by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the backup that iTunes makes doe not include media.

Need a little help with syncing my iPod.
I got a new macbook pro for cristmas and a few cds. After i tried to sync my ipod to itunes i put a symbol next to each song that i got from other cds saying that they were downloading but they werent. Also the cds i downloaded to my ipod for the first time didnt appear at all. Need help.

I do have a sony 7. reciever str de-995 its an older one but its only for my cpu. At first i didnt even have THX installed because it didnt come with the driver package for some reason until i downloaded the daniel_k support drivers and installed it. But it doesnt help in anyway.
I have checked every where regarding the first question and alot of people are having problems getting sound out of there rear channels and the sound being re-mapped to the surround right and the surround left as if there rear left and rear right.
I read somewhere that the daniel_k support drivers would fix this but it didnt for me and many others.
For the second question i assumed it would be becasue of the spidf pass through and that my onboard sound card was inferior to the xfi titaniums. But i wasnt sure and i was hopeing that someone would have a solution for that problem because i miss controlling the volume with my keyboard. -

If you want to know when the 6 is coming out, you won't get an answer here. First, we are not allowed to discuss things that Apple may release in the future. Second, if they were going to release one, it would more than likely be on the iPod page months in advance.

IPhone & Now Up to Date - Possible Low Tech Solutions
iPhone calendar problem. My office uses Now Up to Date to organize my schedule. I used to be able to sync NUD with my old Treo, but with my new iPhone it looks like that might not be possible for a while. I thought of a possible low tech solution, but not sure if it will work and since I'm not very versed in applescript, I need a little help. Here's my crazy plan...
The idea is to write an applescript that will open NUD, save a copy of the month view as a .pdf (using that option in print window), save to a folder, open mail, create a new email to myself and then attach the calendar .pdf, send to my email on my iPhone. Then I would at least have a .pdf of my schedule to view on my phone when I'm away from the office. One last hurdle, it would be great if I could set the script to run on a timed schedule (every 2/3 hours)
Am I crazy? Is that possible? If not, anyone have any clever solutions until NUD works with iPhone?

• Save "archive" of NUD calendar to desktop
• Delete all iCal calendars (I feel like I have to do this because with this method I am creating and importing a completely new iCal calendar everyday. That could get messy fast without getting rid of the old ones)
• Then run apple script that converts the archive file to an iCal file and then imports
• Sync to phone
• Repeat everyday (ouch)
This version will actually utilize the iCal program on my iPhone (unlike my original idea). But as I mention above, it could become painful doing this manually everyday while I wait for the NUD fix. -
I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I recently upgraded to Lion which is causing lots of issues. Aside from that, I went to the Itunes store to purchase books like I have done at least 100 times before with no problems. Now I can by the book and get it to my computer, however when I tried to download the book to my 3rd generation ipod the dialog box informed me that to download any new audiobook purchases I would need an ipod touch. My ipod nano 3rd generation serves my purposes just fine. Why should I be forced to buy something I do not want just to continue something I have always done seamlessly? I know this is more of a rant than a question but I am sure someone else out there has had this happen to them. Maybe you could share your thoughts on how to work around this issue if possible?
I forgot to add the last obvious and crucial step I had taken - plugging a different iPod into my system. It was also not recognized. That was the final proof I needed to determine if the problem was device or system. But now what?

Need a little help I'm new to Mac.. i have had my ibook for over a year now and i like it a lot, but some times my usb post dies on my for a couple days maybe weeks. Ill have my ipod connected and when i go to plug in a flash drive. It doesn't detect my ipod anymore and my usb port don't work. it says that they were "removed improperly" and now they are not working again..i have tried to reinstall the whole os again and that doesn't work i don't have the hardware test disk so i don't know what could be the problem i know its not the logic board is there any test i can do to it to find out the problem its an ibook late 2001... there is no reset button on it. i tried to hold in the space bar and now when i boot up i get prompt to this screen that shows the world and then a folder with a ? mark but then after a few sec it boots right up im a mess need some help

You have to go to the iPod's icon on your computer (or the flash drive's icon), select it and eject it there before removing it. Otherwise, data can be corrupted and/or lost. Repeatedly removing it without ejecting it from the desktop can cause it not to be recognized any longer.
If your iBook is a "late 2001" model. It should have a reset button. Check out the chart here to make sure which model iBook you have:

It's trying to find a network volume from which to boot.
Once it's booted up, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk, and select your Mac OS X startup volume. Then close System Preferences. The next time you start up, it should start up without looking for a network volume. -

It says need full iPod !!Usually a hard reset of the device resolves this error. A reset is equivalent to rebooting your PC. To do the reset, first make sure the Hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Need a little help with dial setup on CME
I've got a CME I'm using for testing and I think I need a little help figuring out the proper config to get the system to accept numbers I dial and have those numbers be passed on to an Avaya system (including the leading 9 for ARS in Avaya) via H.323 IP trunks. I have it working well for internal 5 digit extension calls across the H.323 trunks and I also have it working well for some types of outside calls that gets passed on to the Avaya and then the Avaya dials the call out to the PSTN. My only real problem is, I can't figure out how to correctly configure CME to examine the digits I'm dialing and only send the digits once I'm finished dialing....not as soon as it sees an initial match.
What's happening is this. I can dial local numbers in my area as 7 digits or 10 digits. The phone company doesn't yet force us to dial area code and number for local calls (10 digits). I can still dial 7 digits. But...if I put an entry in CME that looks like this....
(by the way, the 192.168.1.1 IP is not the real IP address, that's just an example, but the rest of this entry is what I really have entered in CME)

...Then it will always try to dial out immediately after seeing the first 8 digits I dial (9 plus the 7 digit number I called)...even though I have a speicifc entry in the system that accounts for calls to 9 plus area code 513. I would have assumed that if I put the specific entry in for 9513....... it would see that and wait to see if I was actually dialing something to match 9513....... instead of 9....... Understand what I mean? Because 9513....... is more specific than 9....... but it still tries to send the call out immediately after seeing the first 8 digits I dialed.

...BUT...here's the interesting thing. If I trace the 10 digit call in Avaya, I see that the number being presented to the Avaya PBX is only the first 7 digits of the number....not the full 10 digits...BUT I see a few more of the digits I dialed (like the 8th and 9th digits) after the call is already setup and sent to the PSTN. It's like the CME is trying to send the rest of the 10 digits I dialed, but at that point it's already too late. It setup the call as a 7 digit call (9 plus 7 digits), not 10 digit like I wanted.
I'm more familiar with how to setup dialing in the Avaya via ARS. My background is Avaya, not Cisco, so this dial-peer config is a little difficult for me until I understand the reasoning of how it examines the numbers and what I should do to make it wait for me to finish dialing....or to tell the system that what I'm dialing will be a minimum or a certain amount of digits and maximum of a certain amount of digits, like the Avaya does. I just need some pointers and examples to look at :-) I think I've almost got it....but I'm just missing something at the moment.
Just so you understand, the call flow should be like this: Cisco phone registered to CME > CME to Avaya via H.323 trunks > Avaya to PSTN via ISDN PRI trunks connected to Avaya. I have to be sure I send the 9 to the Avaya also, because 9 triggers ARS in the Avaya.

In your case, it is variable length dial plan you are trying to implenent. To fix it, you need to add a T to force the system to wait for more digits to be entered if there is any.

You can also configure the inter-digits timeout using the command timeouts interdigit under telephony-service.
