Low usb performance on KT4V

Hi,
I upgraded from KT266Pro2A to KT4V. On my previous system I was able to achieve 25fps capture with my webcam (usb 1.1). Now I can reach at most 15fps. Is that a driver issue or so? All the other settings are same with the old system.
KT4V
Duron 800@810MHz
256MB DDR 2100
Win 2K & Win 98
Via 4in1 4.43
BIOS rev 1.8
Thanks

My situation is: I have a webcam (FlyCam 300K) which has been bought before there were any USB2.0 capable mainboards available. I have been using a MSI KT266 Pro2-A board. The webcam were connected by using its std. cable (it is not a replaceable cable, just fixed). By using virtual dub I was able to capture 25fps @ 320x240 resolution (lower fps at higher resolutions due to the capability of the webcam). Then my mboard broke and I bought a KT4V. I am using both Win2k and 98se on my system. I have loaded all chipset and USB2.0 drivers (even though I will never need usb2.0 soon). All the other hardware and software except the motherboard itself are the same with the old system. No sub cables are used btw the camera and motherboard.
Now I could not get the point in using an extra usb2.0 rated cable. My webcam has nothing to do with usb2.0. Do you mean that Via's usb2.0 chipset offers low performance even on usb1.1 systems?
Thanks.

  • Low read performance from a USB 2.0 drive

I experience a terribly low read performance from a USB 2.0 hard drive on a fresh Arch Linux installation with the latest stock kernel (2.6.23.1-7). Reading 200 MB takes around 3 minutes whereas under Windows with the same controller and drive it takes around 10 seconds.

Another interesting thing, which may or may not have anything in common with this issue, is that issuing ANY read or write operation on the drive makes JACK running a FreeBoB driver for a FireWire audio interface connected to the same USB 2.0/FireWire controller collapse. But the low read performance happens regardless of whether the JACK is running or not.
Anyone has any clue what to check? Thanks in advance.

It is probably not, it works fine under Windows and it worked fine as well on another machine with older Arch Linux installation.

It is an external HDD enclosure, so it is self-powered.
lilsirecho wrote:One last gasp...check /etc/mkinitcpio.conf for hooks "usb"...
Well, usb hook is not enabled, but as I don't use the drive for booting, I see no reason for it to be. The required modules (usbcore, ehci_hcd, usb_storage, ide_core) are loaded. Without them, the drive would probably not be mountable at all.
Thanks for the effort, but neither of the tips probably points to the cause.

WRT160NL - Connection drops, Reboots, USB performance
After reading many posts dating back several months regarding internittent connectivty drops, usb performance issues and users having to reboot there routers frequently with the WRT160NL, I was fairly convinced this is a FIRMWARE issue and not a config or hardware problem. Nevertheless after adjusting settings as per Linksys support, replacing my DSL modem, and yes RMA'ing my WRT160NL, I am still having these issues with this device which points definetly is the direction of "FIRWARE".
I'm hoping these posts are being acted on and escalated to Linksys(Cisco) so that we can get a resolution to our frustrating scenerio. I have seen post after post with similar issues and complaints. When are we going to see a FIRMWARE upgrade?

Same issues, same problems.  Tried all suggested configurations from this forum.  WRT160NL slows down and locks up after running 12 to 24 hours.  Can not access router set up page after that.  Running latest fireware.  Considering putting it on a timer to reboot it every 12 hours.  Must be a fireware issue or the entire production run is defective and should be recalled.

  • 2012 MacMini and iPad 4 - Low USB Power Issue

I have a freshly installed 2012 MacMini that I am trying to set up WiFi Sync on a new iPad 4 but I keep getting a low power on USB warning when I plug it in. Is anyone else having this problem? All that I have plugged into the MacMini is a HP DeskJet 4140 and in another port the Apple Aluminum Keyboard (with Apple Mouse plugged into one of the keyboard ports). I would have thought that the Mini would be able to handle this with no problems.

Great news, thanks for the report!

  • Low system performance

hello guys. sorry i posted a similar thread concerning very poor performance of my computer after installin oracle 10g release 2, it has 60g harddisk memory, celeron m 448m ram and 1.6ghz processor, i upted for upgrading to a centrino, but thanks to your advice i have decided to tune the database instead of upgrading hardware.
i would like to know how to configure the programme to start up manually also.
    thanks for your help (again).

Minimum memory requirement to install 10g software is 512 MB. So your machine does not have sufficient RAM to run the database.
Though, it is possible to tune the database to run in the available RAM, you might face ORA-04030/4031 errors frequently.
In your case, I would suspect the low performance is due to paging operation occuring on your system.
What do you mean by configure for "manual" startup? Manual is something that you can always do. If you need to "automate" the database startup, you need to edit the service to start in automatic mode using SPFILE or PFILE.

  • Low Application Performance due to AM connection pooling configuration

    Hi All,
My application performance is too slow due to default App module connection pooling parameters. I started exploring on these parameters in oracle documentation and was stopped due to some doubts.
The below link is actually the one from which I'm doing the configuration.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/b31974/bcampool.htm
    1. I want to know what value should be in Weblogic server --> Maximum capacity (I think they confused me a little saying it can be equal to AM's Maximum Pool Size, Maximum Available Size, Minimum Available Size).
    2. Then the AM's Initial pool size should be equal to the weblogic's Initial Capacity. I have 10 AM, if I'm setting 100 in each AM, then the corresponding weblogic's initial capacity should be equal to 100 or 100 X 10. Please clarify this.
    Thanks.

You post give no information which connects the pooling parameter to 'low' performance. Have you checked where all the time is consumed? Which method or part of the application consumes the most time. Before you can't answer these questions you can't link the problem to am pooling.

  • SOLVED: Low 3D performance with Intel X3100 on Arch64?

    Hello,
I installed Arch x86-64 on my Acer 7720-6902 laptop, which uses X3100 video (i965 chipset). It works nice, except that I am getting VERY bad 3D performance. glxgears gives only ~400fps and I can barely get 30fps on games like ActionCube.
The other distros I tested here, openSUSE and Mandriva, were 32-bits and 3D worked normally.
Any ideas on how to fix it?  This is not a work blocker, just an annoyance, as I don't use this machine for 3D gaming but still would like it working properly.
    Thanks!

  • USB Issue in KT4V MS-6712 Bios 1.8

Upon updating my bios from 1.1 to 1.8, I have noticed the strangest issue that I have been unable to resolve. The system simply refuses to keep the usb ports powered unless there is a keyboard plugged into the ps/2 keyboard port, which is strange and troubling considering I use a USB MS Natural Keyboard Pro.
I have checked all the usb options in the bios, sequentially enabled and disabled usb legacy support, etc, all to no avail.
And yes, I have perused the troubleshooting threads and still have yet to find a solution to this problem. Any input would be most appreciated.

    Hi,
I'm asking MSI but I need more info.
May I know which USB ports you are plugging into? The back I/O ports beside the PS/2 ports? or the front ports or by the D-Bracket2 ports?
Please try all these possible ports see which one down and which one up. Thanks for your attempt.

  • Very low video performance

Hello everyone. I have an intel gma 950 video card and I think it's not performing as it should.
From what I've read here at the forums, this card should be getting ~1200 FPS in glxgears (a couple of owners of this same card reported that). Mine is getting about ~750.
I really don't know how to tweak my xorg.conf anymore so please help me. Maybe the owners of said video card could let me see their xorg.conf ?

Hmm, triple buffer doesn't seem to make a difference because enabling it was the last thing I tried, but no matter what I do, my FPS stays at ~750.....isn't that strange ? I know I've seen several posts here from Intel gma 950 owners that they get around ~1200 FPS.....
    Although,
    glxinfo | grep direct
    does return
    direct rendering: Yes
    Thanks for the response anyway....
EDIT: Just tried disabling triple buffer and the composite extension, and glxgears still returns the same result! I just don't get it

  • Settings Suggestions (Low Light Performance)

For about a month once I year I do some photography work, primarily portrait type photos, (at a local amusement park for their halloween event) so everything is done typically at dusk and after dark under a lot of special effects lighting. For the last couple years I used my Canon Rebel T3 with a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens, recently I aquired the 1.4 version. After getting the 1.4 I'm considering using my Canon 50D as well for this years run. I'm just seeking advice on how to achieve less noise perhaps? For both bodies? Rebel seems noisy in low light sometimes, I've managed some nice results last year with the help of a external flash on it but I don't like blinding my coworkers working the event... so there's a bit of work going into my photos post production sort to speak before sharing the images. I never been to sure as to what settings to use, I primarily just shoot in either TV or AV mode. It would be an all new experience for my 50D as I usually take it to my local zoos to take pics because I use my 28-300mm lens on it, so any advice is appreciated!
I am considering buying a 6D, or a Nikon in the future but for now I'm just settling with what I got.

If money were no object, a 1Dx and a Canon EF 50mm f1.  But seriously buying a 6D, or a brand-N, is not going to help.
At least not much more than what you already have.  BTW, the 50mm f1.4 you did aquire is only 1/2 stop faster than the 50mm f1.8 you already had.  Not a deal maker!
I love shooting at night and at dusk.  You can get some truely interesting photographs.  My best advice is shoot.  Yes, shoot a lot.  Because experience is the best teacher.  No body here can tell you what settings to use.  They have not seen the venue!
Sometimes Tv will work and sometimes Av will.  Even P will at times.  I would avise you to stay away from the 'fully automatic' choices, however.  The best advise is learn your equipment.  Go to the Mall and shoot. Go to a park. Try the Zoo after dark. Any place to get the experience.  But shoot!

  • MacPro 2008 up to 10.9.3 - USB performance drop

I have a vanilla early 2008 8-core Mac Pro with 8GB of RAM and about 500 GB of HD.
I use it exclusively for software defined radio, which is an application that in my instance, transfers a lot of data to the computer via USB from a device called an SDR-IQ (by RFSPACE.) Very little outgoing data is involved, it's almost all in the device to computer direction. Data rates involved range from 200 kB/sec to 800 kB/sec, depending on the bandwidth selected in my application.
I was previously using OSX 10.6.8, and everything worked fine at all data rates.
I upgraded to 10.9.3, and now I get a few seconds of data transfer and correct operation, and then there is either a data stall or a significantly diminished transfer rate,  -- and that's the end of that. This happens at all data rates including the slowest.
Running the same application, but with a unit that transfers the same amount of data, and also at all the higher rates, over TCP/ethernet, there is no problem. This establishes that 10.9 is not slowing down my actual application; instead it seems to be a problem specifically related to USB. I do have access to the source code which is handling the USB transfer, but there's nothing in it that was previously broken, and nothing stands out to me as something that is being done wrong, funny or in any way that would otherwise would raise suspicion.
I know of one change Apple made between 10.6 and 10.9 that breaks USB compatibility; it was the addition of a serial kernal module for the FTDI chip which effectively blocks the direct access library and completely breaks anything that tries to talk to the FTDI chip in the (previously) standard manner. This must be unloaded, and I have done so:
         sudo kextunload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBFTDI
At this point, software like mine that uses the FTDI chip works again, but as I said, it's very slow and/or stalls during data transfer.
Anyone know of any hints, tips, or hopefully outright fixes?

Ok, found it. Mavericks has this "app nap" thing. The software uses a server that talks to the SDR-IQ via USB, then re-encapsulates that data as a standard TCP stream at fairly high rates. The SDR receive software receives and interprets that stream.
"App nap" takes windowed applications that are not at the "front" of OSX's GUI and interferes with their processing such that they don't get the cycles they need to run normally; that's exactly what was happening to the USB-to-TCP server. It was getting "put to sleep" in the middle of doing it's time-critical work, the TCP output stream would stall, and SdrDx in turn would suffer a data famine.
The solution is to right click on the application icon and select "show info", then checkmark the "ignore app nap" or similar nomenclature. I did this for both the server and SdrDx, because there are *many* times when SdrDx is receiving but is not the front application, and it may not be making any sound, either, which is apparently one of the (few) things the app nap "feature" looks at to see if it is ruining your day.
So if you get weird USB (or other) speed issues under Mavericks, first thing to try is turn off App Nap. That's a by-default-on OSX feature that is not nearly smart enough to do what it does to applications. Thank goodness Apple provided a way to turn it off!

Is that a hoax? “low-light” pictures was one of the biggest (that and these floating lenses) reason I picked Lumia over HTC 8x.
What am I missing? What is your experience?
    P.S.
on Nokia's picture, it says that the shot was taken by a protorype device....i wonder if that prototype has a better camera than end product.
    Nokia's advertized low-ligh picture:

    @AlexOdin
I've attached a couple of stills comparing the N8's night mode and Lumia 920's night mode both without using flash. Both shots were taken with seconds of each other under the same low light conditions.
I'm quite impressed with the results of the 920.
    Cheers.
    Ray.

  • Unreasonably low gaming performance, reasonably stout machine

I have heard plenty of people having problems with their computers in regards to gaming but I wanted to see if anything has been figured out.
    My specs are:
    27" iMac Core i7 (mid-2011 model)
    3.4ghz
    quad core
    8gb ram
    768gb HD partition, 250gb free
AMD Radeon HD 6970M, 2gb video memory
When I first got this computer it was a fantastic gaming computer even when running OS X.  When I first installed Diablo III on it I was getting between 40-60fps easily.  Borderlands 2 was smooth as silk in the highest settings and at native resolution.
A year or so passed and I started gaming on the PC side with games that weren't available on the Mac.  I started noticing that my gaming performance really seemed to lag behind the PC side.  I booted up Borderlands 2 and now at the same settings as before it is unplayable.  I estimate no more than 10fps.  Diablo III is getting 6-8fps.  On the PC side Diablo is getting a solid 60fps with max settings.
It's obviously not the computer hardware itself.  Something changed between August of 2012 when I received this computer and now.  I believe the computer came installed with Mountain Lion (10.8) and I followed up the next year by installing Mavericks (10.9).  I did a clean install of Yosemite the other day and I am STILL having problems.  I am at my wits end.  This is the first time in 25 years (Apple IIgs was first) of owning Apple products where I am not able to rectify my own problems and honestly, my PC partition has yet to give me any problems so it is making me feel like I made a mistake buying a Mac.
I realize the Mac isn't as good of a gaming computer as a PC... I get that.  But when a game is working fine one day and a year later is unplayable... GRRRR.
    I am open to ideas.
      Model Identifier: iMac12,

Thanks but I read that in several places already.
I stated that I had this problem in Mavericks as well.  Working on downloading the Mavericks installer and I'm going to try a wipe and install (of mavericks) to see if that fixes it.

  • No or Low Overhead Performance Monitoring

Reading V$ or X$ tables for performance monitoring generates very high overhead on Database. These tables are nothing but dymamic views over SGA. Is there any way or any API available to read directly from SGA.
    Thanks & Regards
    Rajesh

Really I have never heard anything alike before but
perhaps with this document you can find something
    about it.

  • Very low HD Performance

    Hi,
Using arch a few days ago (Recent Instalation) I noticed that it was very slow, programs were taking quite some time to open, then I tested my HD performance with hdparm:
Cached Read is 680MB/s in Arch.
After this, I installed CentOS 5.0 and tested hdparm again:
Cached Read is 1700MB/s in CentOS.
Then I Tested hdparm in Ubuntu 7.04 and in Fedora 7 and:
Cached Read is ~ 622MB/s in both.
My problem is that I want Arch (Of course) with that HD performance found in CentOS.
I want some directions from you guys, I have already searched and tested this for a few days, but can´t make it work.
I can get needed data from bot, Centos or Arch.
    Thank you!!

Could it be some new driver, or something that has changed recently, CentOS is RHEL based, it uses older programs/drivers/kernel.
    Thank you!
