Low volume using M-Audio keyboard and GB

Hi:
Using an M-Audio Keyboard 61es keyboard (MIDI controller actually) with Garage Band 09. The volume is very low - basically need to turn everything up to max or close to it. Anyone else have this experience or any hints?
Thanks
Using a late 2010 15" i7 macPro

I'm having what I believe to be the same problem with a different, but I assume very similar, keyboard: an M-Audio 49e. I tried raising the volume in the settings suggested by the website, which do raise the volume, but the volume slider in the main work area on the track always defaults to around 1/3 full volume –– incredibly frustrating. I feel like this has something to do with the volume slider on the keyboard itself, which I remember was functional with earlier version of GarageBand, but not with this one. I do not think that that solution has actually solved this problem, and I know that many others are having it as well.

You can find the Apple Bluetooth card on eBay for as little ten dollars (says its for the 2008 model Mac Pro, not sure about the 2007).

Here is a link to a full explanation of the card and how to install it. Part numbers may differ a bit as that is an old article and newer models have come out.

Just make sure that the part will work in your model Mac Pro. To that end, you may be better off avoiding eBay and going to a parts reseller. There are even third party cards that use the internal Apple bluetooth slot.

In theory, using a USB or PCI card will work at login so long as it is recognized by Apples drivers. You say you need to launch an application to use your current USB Bluetooth dongle? If it is not controlled by the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar then it must be using a third party driver of some sort. Unfortunately, I don't know off hand which USB and PCI cards are supported.

  • I have horribly low volume from my audio instruments via MOTU 828

I am really frustrated. The MOTU 828 is a soundcard that has inputs for microphone ( I use 1/4" plug but also has XLR). Obvioiusly it accomodates other electrical instruments that I crank through an amp first (volume on 10) and connect via the amp's headset jack.
NO matter what I plug in the volume is horribly low in Garage band track. THe motu 828 has "input gain" for each input t and that is cranked to 10. Then in GB I have the "track mixer volume" cranked up (and the volume in "Track Info" is grayed out).
When I shout into the microphone Track equalizer barely moves and I can barely hear myself. Then I make a recording which is ever so slightly audible on playback but the "sound waves" don't even register in the region - it looks like a flatline.
One thing that is interesting is that when I connect my keyboard to the Motu 828 +via the headphone (audio) jack+ it works great and I can easily turn up the volume in the track "mixer" or on the keyboard and get it to equalize and peak in the red.
Why am I unable to record my microphone or my guitar amp (through the 1/4" headphone jack) at a decent level?

    Mhurst08,
Are you talking about the Headset jack on your Amp or on the computer?
In my case: I use a XLR Male/Female Cable through my Audio Interface.
    I go through (*Mic Instrument 1 Plug*) optional in my case... if i want to activate phantom on interface;
make sure *Input Volume* for that channel is up, along with *Inputs/Playback Mixer Knob* and Headphone volume, if using... not sure if your interface contains these volume knobs.
In term of GB in TRACK click New TRACK, then click *REAL INSTRUMENT* then CREATE.
In *GB Preferences* go to (Audio/Midi) in both *Audio Output* and *Audio Input* choose( The name of your interface if listed) in your case... Motu 828. if not, again in both try
Audio output(Built-in out) and Audio input(System Settings) which plays back through computer speakers... the first config., plays through interface.
Under Track Mixer you must click the circular dot button in front of the symbols: Mute, solo, lock, etc., buttons.
Go to (*Track Info Pane*) section and in *Input Source* choose( Mono 1) if you're also using your guitar at the same time you have to go back to *New Track* and take the same steps for Real instrum., and then choose Mono 2, and so on.
Last steps: Monitor can be *on or off* try both; underneath Monitor, is your *Recording Level* may sure it's turned up... not to high with Monitor ON... will get feedback.
You can also check the *Master Slider Volume* next to *LCD( measure, time counter, etc).* Oh, by the way your 1/4" cable should work.
See if this solve the mystery!

  • MIDI note delay / stagger using Caps Lock keyboard and 3rd party plugins

Whenever I am using any of the following plugins:
Waldorf PPG Wave, Waldorf D-Pole or Audio Damage Reverence,
with the respective plugin windows open, I can hit several notes on the Caps Lock keyboard simultaneously and some of them will trigger after the rest.
Interestingly, Reverence and D-Pole are effects, and so placing them on any audio instrument, including those that came with Logic, causes them to behave as PPG Wave always does when its plugin window is open.
The delay time seems to be variable.
When the plugin windows are closed, there is no delay.
As well, triggering many notes at once or notes in quick succession seems to cause things to stagger up more.
Sometimes the MIDI notes get stuck and continue playing until they are pushed again.
This seems strange to me, as CPU usage on the plugins is extremely low (the CPU meter does not even register a single mark).
The problem does NOT occur if I draw out a MIDI sequence that does precisely the sort of things that cause the holdups when I am using the Caps Lock keyboard.
Is the Caps Lock keyboard just not very good at certain things?
Why would this problem occur only with these specific plugins?
None of Logic's included plugins have this problem (unless of course I stick Reverence or D-Pole on them as an insert and open the Reverence window).
Naturally this is an inconvenience that can be worked around, but it is annoying.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hey Rob,
I opened up the Activity Monitor, and CPU usage in Logic Express is 35-40% with the plugin window open and between 16-20% with it closed.
That doesn't seem to be it, but your suggestion that the Caps Lock keyboard is probably just not good at handling many notes at once is definitely correct.
I plugged in a MIDI keyboard and the CPU usage is the same, but there is no staggering problem.
Perhaps there is something off with the CPU meter in Logic Express 7, though.
The Audio side registers activity, but the CPU side says nothing, when clearly the Activity Monitor has it right.
Anyway, thank you for answering my question--it is sort of an annoying little problem, but I just won't play fast with Caps Lock, I suppose.

  • Low signal using M-Audio Fastrack

    Hi all,
Hoping you can help. I have an M-audio Fasttrack USB connected to an iMac G5. When I plug an electric guitar into the line input I get a very limited signal comming into the mac. I have checked the audio preferences and the input selections but cant seem to get a strong enough signal. Can anyone offer suggestions.

  • I am using a USB keyboard and everytime I wake the iMac from sleep the keyboard will not respond unless I unplug and replug the keyboard. I am using a mid-2010 iMac with OSX 10.6. Any help would be appreciated.

I am currently using a USB keyboard (PC Model) and everytime I wake the computer from sleep the keyboard no longer responds unless I unplug and replug it. The USB mouse I am using works fine with no issues and I have already gone through the prompt to identify the keyboard in the settings. If anyone know of a setting I can use to permenantly enable the keyboard so I no longer have to unplug and replug it that would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Your 2010 MBP would be able to handle Yosemite, but I would strongly suggest that you get the current problem sorted out before trying to upgrade to Yosemite. I'd also recommend another backup that isn't created by Time Machine if you are thinking of upgrading. SuperDuper and CarbonCopyCloner can make bootable clones of hard drives. If you clone your existing system to a fresh external drive, you would be able to boot from that drive and recover quickly in the event that your Yosemite upgrade didn't work out. Time Machine backups are not 100% reliable.
It's possible that, if your internal HD is the one that shipped with your MBP in 2010, it may be failing. If it keeps needing repairs, that is probably a sign that it is approaching the end of its useful life.
Have you run Disk Utility's Repair tool on the external drive as well?
I mentioned the hub because some people have reported here that attaching their USB 3 drives through a USB 2 hub solved some disconnection problems. A good-quality powered USB 2 hub won't cost much.
My most recent brush with random disconnections involved a nice new OWC drive enclosure. I used the cable that came with the drive, but the drive kept disconnecting. Using a different cable solved the problem. You wouldn't expect that what appeared to be a high quality cable would be a problem straight out of the box, but it was.

  • Full screen issue when utilizing Ease of Use on screen keyboard and RDP in Win8.1

    Hello,
I am exploring using touch technology with our point of sale application which is delivered to our clients using RDP.  The default touch keyboard in Win8 is basically useless for our application so we enabled the touch keyboard under Ease of Use (EoU)
which does meet our requirements.   We enabled the KB in docked mode so it is always displayed and locked to the bottom of the display.  The issue is that when we start an RDP session in full screen mode, the RDP session is using the whole screen
and slipping under the docked EoU KB.  Is there a means to have RDP recognize the reduced screen size with the EoU KB docked and only use the available screen real estate?  I understand that I can configure the RDP settings manually and approximate
what I'm looking for but this drops the session into a window which is somethibg I'm looking to avoid.

    Hi Steve,
Thank you for post in Windows Server Forum.
As per my research, I can say that you need to set the RDP screen size manually. So after setting the size of Full screen RDP you can able to use. You can also try to switch the application in Remote Desktop connection by “Ctrl+Alt+Break”. Please check
the shortcut to be used when using RDC.

  • Why is volume lower when using Mono Audio? Can it be adjusted?

I have switched my iPhone4's Mono Audio option in order to listen to music using my ear buds. (I need to use mono as am deaf in one ear).
The volume, after switching on Mono Audio, is significantly less than with it off. I need to set the volume to maximum just to be able to hear the music.
I have tried several ear buds and there is no difference.
I would like to be able to raise the volume but cannot work out how to do so.
Does any one have any suggestions?

Same here. I'm using iPod touch 4, together with an iRig MIDI, Sampletank, and some keyboards. My mixer is mono (most live gigs are in mono anyway) so I need the iPod to send mono. But it's barely hearable with the Mono Audio setting.

  • Low Volume Using RCA Cab

I have a 60gig ZX. I purchased a set of cables from radio shack (headphone to rca) but the volume ends up being very low in both my car and my home system. Is there a setting that should be used to get it to "pump' properly?

I'm not sure about an xtra, but i know with my zen micro you have to turn the volume up to about 23 (of out 25) to get it to put the proper sound out. Even then i still turn up my reciever a little higher than it usually is for cds and stuff
