Low volume w/iPod thru stereo??

I finally connected my iPod mini to my stereo and was ready to throw out the 400 CD changer that sits under my receiver.
When I turned the iPod on.....nothing. Then, a faint sound, then when I cranked it up, you could actually hear the music.
At the volume at which you could hear the music on the iPod, I would have blown my speakers with a CD.
Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? If it's normal, then I can't see how or why I'd use the iPod on my home stereo rather than my cds.

Thanks for the advice, Brian.
I have upped the volume on the iPod, but that doesn't have much of an impact on the volume through my stereo. I wish I'd know about the dock and bypassing the internal amp--looks like I have a useless $15 connector cable now and should just buy the dock.
Appreciate the feedback.
Cheers,
Eric

  • Low volume on Ipod Nano when playing through car stereo

I used to own a 4 gig ipod mini, and I'd connect it to my car stereo via a stereo cassette adapter. Well, that little guy crashed after a few years of good hard use, and I bought an Ipod Nano. Only, when I play the Nano through my car stereo, the volume is really low. Is there any way to fix this? I'm thinking maybe the Nano doesn't have the same amplification as the mini, and that's why the volume is low, in which case there's going to be no way to play it through the car stereo. I've tried two different stereo cassette adapters so I know that's not the problem. Anyone have any clarifying thought on this? Please help. David

I use a cassette adapter in the car as well, and also have to adjust the voume on the stereo and the ipod to a higher setting than what I would when listening to a cassette or CD. I've used this adapter with another brand of MP3 player before I got my nano and it was the same as the nano in regards to having to turn up the volume.
In using the adapter in different cars, I've noticed that on some cassette players, I have to swith the auto reverse from say, tape A to tape B in order to get sound out of the adapter. You may want to check the auto reverse settings on your cassette deck, if you haven't already.

  • Plantronics Voyager 855 unable to lower volume during iPod playback

I wasn't sure if this should be in 3GS or music and video, so I figured I would pick one.
I have a 3GS 32gb running version 3.1. The problem I have is during iPod playback. My Voyager 855 locks the volume slider on the phone at half way. Using the volume control ON THE HEADSET, I can increase the volume and see the volume slider on the phone increase correspondingly up to the point that the music is very loud. But, when I try to turn the music down, again using the volume controls ON THE HEADSET, the slider on the phone will only go down to the halfway point. I can continue to click the volume down button ON THE HEADSET and the button will beep along with a split second decrease in volume but as soon as the button is released the volume has not changed-it remains at the halfway point. I have this problem with watching youtube videos, everything, EXCEPT for on the rainfall app that I have. I can increase/decrease the volume all the way up or down to the point that I can no longer hear the rain or until it is so loud it hurts my ears. This is very frustrating as I would really like to use this headset while reading and for sleeping, but the iPod function is just too loud. My friend has a 3G 8gb with the exact same headset and he does not have this problem. Is this a feature/limitation of the 3GS?

Yeah, ha ha, that is my post to Plantronics and their reply to me. I tried what you suggested and no go:
Un pairing, rebooting, and re pairing did not result in a fix. I still have the same problem. I tried it on my wifes phone-hers is running 3.1.3, and no-go, it had the same problem.
The volume slider works when the music is not outputed through the headset. When through the iPhone speaker, it works as it should-the volume is able to be adjusted up and down via the slider. Videos behave as they should, any program that needs to be adjusted via the volume slider or the rocker button on the side of the phone works as it should. To expand on what I stated eariler: while using the iPod function I can set the slider all the way to the left (volume 0), press the option for output and set it to the headset. When I do that, there is a split second where you can see the slider move from the left to the middle, and then the slider disappears. It's almost as though the headset is resetting the default/baseline sound level from 0 to 50 (if we are working on a 0-100 scale). I can increase the volume using the buttons on the headset, and I can lower the volume only to half way. If I then select the option for sound output and change it back to speaker, the slider reappears, and it is all the way to the left where I originally set it. This is very frustrating. I can understand Plantronics response. but they are wrong. I can control the loudness of music via the iPod application. I guess maybe this is just a hiccup I will have to deal with. I have placed a request to Apple that they fix this. Maybe in the next upgrade they will, or at least add an option where you can adjust it in the settings.

  • I cannot play ipod thru stereo receiver ipod connection.

I have a classic ipod which works fine. When I try to connect it to the stereo receiver with an ipod cord it plays for a few seconds and then stops and says it is ok to disconnect. I can play it thru the headphone jack and stereo  headphone jack auxillary input. Any ideas why it switches to disconnect?

So I have been searching the iStore for Airplay and I find lots of information about what it is, but nothing about how much it costs, how/where to buy it, etc.?
Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

  • Why is the max volume so low on my ipod 6th gen

why is the max volume so low on my ipod 6th gen

Well, my volume control certainly does influence the start up chime and I cannot see why yours shouldn't.   Use keyboard buttons F11 and F12 to adjust your sound level last thing at night and if your machine auto starts in the morning it will not wake the household.
True, if volume control is turned down to a lower level, you would have to adjust it for other sound output that you do want later, iTunes and videos on browsers etc, but it requires little effort.

  • Why is the sound low on my Ipod?  When I have my earbuds in I have to have the volume almost all the way up.  I have the volume limit maxed out also.  Same thing when I plug it into a boombox

Why does my Ipod play at a low volume?  When I have my earbuds in I have to have it at almost full volume, and when I plug it into a boombox it doesn't play as loud as the radio or a cd.  I have the volume limit turned all the way up in the settings also.  All my songs on my Ipod were burned from cd's(if that helps) thanks.

Sorry, I have the same issue.
So far searching threads here is not coming up with anything.
I have set aside my restore discs, to start the process of ripping the drive clean.
I tried Omni Sweep, but all it did was confirm the space I counted up.
Still does not show what's hidding. 113GB worth on mine.
That software really boggs down the system.
I could not load an email with it running.
    Good LUck as well.

  • Low Volume Ipod Classic 2009 from USA?

    Hi,
I just purchased the new Ipod Classic in October in New York City at the Apple Store. Now, back at home in Switzerland, I loaded the Classic via Itunes. Now I have the feeling that the Classic has a much lower volume than my old 5.5G Ipod Video (from the USA, too. Without EU volume cut). Is this possible? Is the new classic more quiet than the older ones? Firmware problem? May I have the EU Version althoug I bought it in New York? Is there a way to figger out via serial number etc. if my classic is an US or an EU model?
Does anyone, who lives in the US, the same impression about the volume?
Note: both Ipods are filled with exactly the same files and "maximum volume" is set to max in both models.
Thanks a lot for some ideas.
    Gero

Does anyone, who lives in the US, the same impression about the volume?
My 2009 160GB USA unit is very loud.
I think that your computer tells the iPod that you are in the EU and it locks in a lower volume.
In the EU the 'State' and not the individual controls the volume of YOUR music.
Talk about "over governed". I guess I'm lucky that the "sound Police" didn't confiscate my USA iPod on a recent trip to Europe.
    Good Luck.

  • How to play my ipod thru my car stereo?

I have a fourth gen. Nano and can't seem to find a device so I can play my iPod thru my car stereo. Is there one for the 4th gen. Nano I don't have a plug in and am looking for a wireless device?

You can convert songs by using the iTunes Advanced menu -> Create XXX Version. What type of version is controlled by the encoder selected in the iTunes Preferences -> General pane. Click on the "Import Settings" button to change.
When you use this, you will get an MP3 copy of each song you convert. You can find them in your library by sorting by the "kind" column and searching for "MPEG audio File".

  • Lower volume level on Auxiliary that Airtunes is playing thru

Anyone got any advice here? I have airtunes working on my Bose stereo from both computers in my house. When I play it, however, it is at a noticeably lower volume level than that of the CD or even FM radio. Volume on iTunes is at the max.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Chris

Which input are you using on the Bose stereo? You should be using a line level input (for example "Tape In"). A phonograph input expects a much different signal and won't work properly.

  • My new iPod touch (4th gen) has a significantly lower volume than my old one. I have maxed all the volumes and turned off the volume limit to no help. Can anyone help?

My new ipod touch 4th gen has a much lower volume than my old one, i have maxed the volumes out and got rid of all volume limits which has nor helped. Can anyone help?

Are you using the same headphones?
Did you officially purchase the in an EU country? They require a lower max volume than the USA and other countries.

  • My iPhone 4 plays music at a low volume when connected to a car stereo

My iPhone 4 plays music at a low volume when connected to a car stereo either by fm transmitter or aux cable. The volume on the phone is full and the car stereo is full yet you can barely hear it. Anyone else had issues with this

I seem to remember someone several months ago having this same problem and I think it turned out to be the AUX cord.
FM transmitters tend to have low volume associated with them as well from my experience.

  • Voice memo playback low volume, ipod touch 4th gen bluetooth

After recording a voice memo on my ipod touch 4th gen.  I play it back on my bluetooth JBL flip.  Now when I playback sound levels are sometimes extremely quiet, and other times play at normal volume.  Volume on Ipod touch and JBL flip will be maxed out and still volume playback are extremely quiet.  I have tried turning off and on Ipod and not found anything work consistently at solving this issue.

Do you have a Phone? In your case i would save some money for an iPhone. Like i am doing now - i also got a 4G iPod.
Anyways if you really wanna go for another iPod, take the 5G now. The 5G is a big update from the 4G and Apple released it last year, so i think that the 6G will come in 2014.

  • Airport Express Quiet (low Volume)

    Hi,
just bought a Airport Express and if I attach it to a iPOD Speaker System (via line in) it's very quiet and I hear a grounding noise. Of course I can increase the volume at the speakers, but it would also emphasize the grounding noice as well as once I would switch back to the iPod my ears would explode .
BTW: The iTunes volume control is on 100%.
Any idea how to solve this, because currently I can't use it to stream music, what my primarely purpose for the Airport was.
    Regards,
    Starbug

Hello starbug. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
To rule out the audio port on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), try connecting a pair of stereo headphones to the port. Do you still get "low volume" in the headphones? If so, it may be possible that the audio circuitry in the AX is having problems and you should seek a replacement.
