Lower 3rd templates in Motion?

I am brand new to Motion. How can I access some lower 3rd templates that I can make basic modifications to? Using Motion 3.
Thanks.

I am also not able to view it in the Viewer, and I tried other Master Templates, so I'm guessing something is wrong with it. Guess it is time to learn Motion.
I opened the Basic White - Lower Third NTSC template.
1.) I selected text and typed over it when it first showed up in the timeline. Is this the only place it needs to be changed OR do I need to change it at some other keyframe?
2.) How do I select a shape to delete it or change its color? Example: the rectangle that the word Live sits on top of. How could I either change the color or delete it and all the shapes on top of it?
Thanks!

  • Creating a third line w/ one Lower 3rd

Can one create a third or fourth line, when only using one Lower 3rd in Final Cut Pro?
    Thanks.

Basically.... no.  It's only a quick template for those too lazy to do their own.  You're better off using title 3d and a color matte.  You could add a gradient for that 80's fade off to one side.  The fun of a program like fcp is that there are multiple ways to do all sorts of things.  You can also build your titles in motion, which incorporates the features of (now nearing extinction) livetype.

  • Moving a lower 3rd between 2 keyframes

I want a lower 3rd .tiff file to start off screen on the left side and using motion properties, I want it to move right. What is the best way to move it right while keeping it on the same Y coordinate? I am noticing that I am unable to use arrow keys to move it because this ends up advancing the frame in the timeline and when dragging with the pointer, I tend to move it either up or down.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
place the playhead at the beginning of the lower third clip, in motion tab>position>use numerical values (in the top left space, right next the plus button enter -960 (are you on a 16:9 project? values depend on your lower third width too) and hit the keyframe button.
Move playhead where you want the lower third movement to end, lets assume to disappear on the right end side, and enter in the same space 960 and a keyframe is automatically generated.
Now your lower third will travel left to right. To customize speed drag second keyframe towards the first one as you wish, the closer they get the faster the movement.
One tip, if you wish to manually set keyframes by dragging the wireframe in the canvas (having image +wireframe selected) you can avoid vertical unwanted shifts by keeping the SHIFT key pressed while dragging.
    Hope that helps,
    G.

  • HT201541 are there any new templates for Motion 5 since Motion 4?

are there any new templates for Motion 5 since Motion 4?

    Hello and good day.
Yes there are many more templates and with the latest Motion Update we now have 3D Text Templates.
Plus you can always find new freebies being released here: http://www.fcp.co/forum/9-free-fcpx-plugins-and-templates
There are also many 3rd party developers that create Motion Templates as well for Motion 5.
Also, you can create your template with the ability to add many different parameters to control from inside of FCPX.
Please let me know if you have any questions.  Have a great day!

  • Making Lower 3rd move on and off screen?

How can I make a lower 3rd that rises from the bottom off screen and displays for a few seconds and then lowers back down offscreen? Is this something that is done in motion?

  • Is it possible to create DVD Templates with Motion for burning Blue Ray DVDs from Final Cut Pro X?

Is it possible to create DVD Templates with Motion for burning Blue Ray DVDs from Final Cut Pro X?

As far as I know, motion templates can only be used with DVD Studio Pro. FCP X only lets you add a background image to the DVD menu.

  • Import templates from Motion 4 into 5

Has anyone been able to import the templates from Motion 4, particularly the Broadcast Video ones?

I've come to a couple of decisions:
I am not buying FCP X until they fix the many issues...that is another story but very related to this one...Apple is actually refunding customers their money for FCP X...so you know that is bad for FCP X
I am using Motion 5 only if iI have to in certain project when need to.,.
The speed has not change in Motion 5, but I think you have to have the new  Lion install to see the difference with that... will see...
The is no more Live Fonts in Motion 5
Motion 5 does not get along with FCP orFCP X (you can't send project to Motion anymore)
You can only have one project open at the time with Motion 5
The templates are there and you can get to them but is such hassle just to open them up with motion 5...
I have drag Motion 4 back to my apps bar and will continue working with it along with FCP7...
    so disappointed...

  • Problem with lower third template & modifying the text...

I'm doing a top 10 type video, & I downloaded this lower third template & I had never used AE before; I figured out how to duplicate it multiple times through the video where appropriate... but when I modify the text on one template it does the same thing to all of them. How do I make them all separate?

Ok, think about what you have done to change the text for moment. You drilled down to a pre-comp or nested comp that contains a text layer. This makes perfect sense. Unfortunately that text pre-comp is also nested in a pre-comp. This means you need to find each of these pre-comps in your project panel and duplicate them there, open the duplicates and then change the text in the duplicates, then replace the original nested comps in the main comp.
I have another observation on your workflow. You've put a bunch of shots and transitions in a single comp which, in effect, tells me that you are using AE as a NLE (editing app). What I would have done is to put every one of your shots that you want to add titles to in a separate comp to simplify each comp. I'd then edit them in a NLE....
The other way I would do this project is to make a comp that is just the needed titles, one comp for each tltle overlay, render the titles with alpha channels, then bring the titles and the original footage into a NLE to edit and add titles.
Building extremely complex compositions with multiple shots in a single comp is usually not a very good idea, even for folks like me that have been doing AE for 20 years. AE is perfect at making shots, lousy at editing sequences so always, and I mean always, try to figure out how you can simplify your project to it's basic elements and build a comp on that. I've had 5 second animations with over a hundred layers, but I've never put 10 or 20 video clips in AE in a single comp and tried to create a sequence.

  • Technical name for a lower 3rd? (off topic)

This is a bit of a random question, but I remember reading/hearing before a technical term for a lower 3rd. I totally forgot what it was, think it might've started with a T :S. I think it was a term used for a graphic that would go behind the text in a lower 3rd. Anyone have any ideas? It's suddenly been nagging on my mind lol.

And back a hundred years ago, we called them title cards. There was a time when you had to get all your titles (main, lower thirds, subtitles etc) hot pressed white on black, on heavy glossy card stock. These went to the optical house, who put them on the animation stand and shot the proper length plus some, so that either a negative matcher could cut them into c and d rolls (a and b being pix negative rolls) or they could be incorporated into the optical workflow-- sandwiched in the printer with the negative for more complicated processes. You had to know beforehand what the workflow was, so you could shoot interpositives, negatives, internegatives or the ok but very short lived CRI process. All in all, in intensive, expensive process.
    Here endeth today's history lesson.
Aside: today everyone whines because their instantly generated text doesn't seem right. Ugh.

  • Can't export alpha channel on a lower 3rd

I was able to sucessfuly change the font color of my live type.
I am intermediate to graphics and I was using the Digital Duice Editor's Took kit #10 - #239 lower third to use as a lower third while adding text in motion. I thought the alpha channel was built in. When I export in motion to .mov I get the lower third, my animated text, but a black background (no alpha to lay over the video) Slap me if this has been asked before, but I have tried a lot of things and still have the black background exported. Do I need to add the alpha overlay that comes with the lower third #239 in motion to make this a mask?
The Digital juice lower third works well in FCP and allows me to super impose it over video. Do I have to set up motion to have an alpha background before I impor the lower third?

I am intermediate to graphics and I was using the Digital Duice Editor's Took kit #10 - #239 lower third to use as a lower third while adding text in motion.< </div>
You are rendering out of Juicer 3? You have done in the past, going to FCP, and the alpha is intact? Then it must be your settings out of Juicer or you have not interpreted the alpha prperly in Motion. It might be straght or premultiplied, depending on your settings in Juicer.
Exporting out of Motion with alpha is easy if you know how to select the proper codec. It must be Animation (ther are other alpha-aware codecs but Animation is idiotproof).
Without watching over your shoulder, it's difficutl to tell whaich of the many beignner's mistakes you could be making. Once you figure it out, though, you wil lnever make them again.

  • Lower 3rd (in Animation Codec mills +) is darker after exporting to QT?

    Hello
My After Effects lower 3rd (Animation Codec mills +) is darker over video after exporting to QT movie? It only looks darker in the areas where the lower 3rds are layered over the video on the final exported QT. But, this doesn't show up in FCP; it looks perfect in the canvas during playback. So I'm not sure what's happening.
Any help would be lovely. Thanks.

Can anyone spot the error in what I'm doing? It's got to be something simple. I've created a time-lapse using these steps (I think) before, so I don't think there's a bug in the program anywhere. Any help appreciated.
Not exactly an error, but I do have a question. If you are sourcing JPEG images to an image sequence file which creates a QT Photo JPEG compression file which is already import/edit compatible with iMovie and currently plays in the QT 7 Player correctly without a "black screen" problem, why are you exporting the data to the AIC compression format instead of simply saving the Photo JPEG sequence file and importing it directly to iMovie?

  • Which templates is Motion using?

I'm finally taking the time to clean up stuff on my drive, including sorting all the Motion templates I've acquired. I've been putting all my templates in Hard drive>Library>Application support>Final Cut Studio>Motion>Templates. In this same folder I see all of Apple's standard templates that come with Final Cut.
However . . .I've noticed now that there is another "Templates" folder at the root of my boot drive. This folder also contains all of Apple's standard templates, but this folder was created a year later than the previously mentioned Templates folder . . .probably when I upgraded last year.
So which of these folders is Motion looking at for the Apple templates? I'd like to get rid of the duplicates I don't need, so which ones can I trash?

I've gotten things sorted out, but I have some "why" questions.
I used Pat's idea of dragging something out of folders and re-launching Motion to see how it would react.
I had 3 Motion template folders:
    1) Macintosh HD>Templates
--This folder contained all the Apple templates, but Motion wasn't looking at it.
    2) Macintosh HD>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Studio>Motion>Templates
--This had everything . . .all the Apple templates plus all my custom/purchased templates.
    3) Macintosh HD>User>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Studio>Motion>Templates
    --This one was empty.
Following your advice, Andy, I put all my custom templates in folder #2 (User folder), made sure the templates in the System folder (folder #2) had all the Apple templates, and trashed the older folder of Apple templates. Everything looks as it should now, and there are no duplicates.
I'm left with two questions, though:
    1) Why should all the Apple templates be in the System folder and all the custom templates be in the User folder? Perhaps this is so that all Users have access to the Apple templates, but multiple Users only have access to the templates they want. If that's the case, that's completely irrelevant to me. I'm the only one who uses this computer.
    2) I've purchased a few templates from Ripple Training, and they certainly know what they're doing. When unzipping their templates, there's a "drag and drop" utility that automatically puts their templates where they belong. As you gentlemen have helped me sort through this, I've found that their templates automatically get put in the System folder, not the User folder. If the User folder is where these templates should be, why would their utility send the templates to the System folder?

  • Lower 3rd

    Hello Everyone,
I want to ask a question in regards to Lower 3rd.
I am making a dvd with some names on the bottom(Lower 3rd) but something i dont like.
I am creating the lowerd 3rd in Photoshop.THEN i insert it in Premiere Pro.
Then i encode  mpeg-2 file.So far so good. When i play on 22" tv this video the lower 3rd looks very nice. But when i play the video on 46"tv the lower 3rd looks crap.It lookes like it has been resized and i can see pixels.WHAT options do i have?Should i make the lower 3rd  bigger in Photoshop and then after i import to premiere pro just to scale down? Will that work? How do they do it in commercial tv that no matter what size tv you watching the lower 3rd is clear and good quality?
    Thank you

More info needed. In Premiere, what is the source video, and what Sequence setting are you using? Meaning, is it 1080p video in a 1080p Sequence, or SD video, or what? What size is the graphic you made in Photoshop? For 1080i or 1080p, ought to be 1920x1080 pixels, 1.0 pixel aspect ratio, 1280x720 for 720p, etc.
When exporting to "MPEG-2 DVD", if the source file is being downscaled (HD to SD), then check the "Max Render Quality" box for encoding, this helps with downscale.
Lastly, how is DVD player connected to TV? Never use the yellow RCA output, will always look nasty on HDTV. Use a DVD player with upscaling (or Blu-ray player), which will will convert to HD and output to TV using HDMI connection, this will provide superior results.
    Thanks
