Lower sound quality / lower bass after upgrade to Windows 8

Hello, just upgraded to Windows 8 on my Pavilion m7.
Before, my audio quality was rich and bassy, using Beats Audio, and after the upgrade sounds poor and quite muted. No matter what I do, I cannot improve quality especially with the deep bass. I am using external speakers, not the ones built in laptop.
In order to troubleshoot, I did a factory restore back to Windows 7... sounded fantastic. When I redid a clean 8 install on top of that, back to the same lack of bass.
Has anybody else experienced something like this?

Sorry to hear about your audio issue during the upgrade. I will be happy to assist you with that. There are a couple of things that you can try. The first is uninstalling your current audio driver. Uninstall it through device manager.

Poor sound quality on podcasts after upgrading to leopard

I upgraded my Powerbook G4 to Leopard yesterday. Currently, my podcasts from Bloomberg on the Econonmy are almost uninteligible as they skipp words, have static etc. Before the update, everything worked fine. Is this a compresssion issue? Sorry to here about your problems since upgrading to Leopard, Charles.
I don't know whether there's a cause/effect relationship of one and the other going on there but you've posted on the iTunes for Windows side of these boards and although for the most part we're a pretty nice bunch of people here - if I do say so myself - generally speaking you'll be better off if you post your question over on the iTunes for Mac side.

I sucessfully upgrading to Windows 8.1 and everything was functioning after the upgrade. However, after the first time I restarted my system after the upgrade the intergrated soundcard no longer worked.
I attempted to remove and reinstall the RealTek audio driver, downloading the newest 8.1 compatible driver from the Lenovo support site.
The drive refused to installed, either via the executable or by manually installing the driver through a device manager upgrade.
So I attempted to install a stand alone soundcard, to no success.
In device manager this is displayed for both the integrated motherboard audio and the new Asus sound card:
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code
52)
If I disable the driver driver signature enforcement, neither audio option works. Instead I get this error in device manager:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing.
(Code 39)"
Attempting to update the driver in device manager, Windows tell me I am on the most up-to-date, recommended driver, yet at the same time refuses to
allow it to function.
Extremely frustrating.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have also attempted to clear out the registry Upper/Lower Filters to no success.

At that registry key, in the right window, is there, under "Name", either an UpperFilters orLowerFilters value?
If so, for each of the UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters value, what is listed under "Data"?
There could be an improper entry at one of these values which may be causing the problem.

Yup, you're not the only one with audio problems. I have a HP Split X2 also, my model is the m121-sa. The problem is that the company that makes the audio chips is IDT which has been sold to a new company called Tempo Semi Conductors (This has been done in early 2014). The new company will have to provide new Windows 10 drivers to support our audio chips, whilst they have made Windows 10 drivers for their newer chips; our old ones has no current drivers made officially for Windows 10. Microsoft are aware of this problem and will not be making any drivers - their solution is to use the Microsoft drivers by unistalling the driver through device manager and updating the driver to the Microsoft High Definition ones. The problem with the HP Split is that you loose beats audio and the audio is quiet, but it works on all apps. NEITHER HP OR MICROSOFT WILL PROVIDE A DRIVER That is above the IDT .6499. It is upto Tempo Semi Conductors to do this and they don't provide end user drivers but OEM's like HP. The problem only lies with metro apps, win32 apps such as Chrome has audio working... If you are having problems with the audio being quiet with the HP Windows 8 drivers (IDT), use the following settings. (though, I think my laptop is defective, but my warranty is gone so, I just turn up the treble - even though it sounds high pitched) On a side note, my other laptop (Toshiba) have been good by providing drivers for all components - Hopefully, Tempo do provide support for IDT as not only HP but other companies also use this chip. By the way, do you problems with start menu being black and blurrly text? For some reason, Windows 8 drivers don't do this but Intel Windows 10 drivers do this. Miracast also only works on the .37 driver and not the newest Windows 10 driver; will need to test this further. Yes there are new TEMPO drivers, but these again are for the new chips and not our old ones. TECRA A11 - low sound quality earphone to AUX

Tecra A11 provides *low sound quality* (iTunes) connecting with my hifi system *via earphone out to AUX* in. An Apple MacBook connected in the same way does much better. Any idea how could enhance the quality? Thanks in advance!

Hmmmmm...... have you tried to change sound settings, player equaliser?
Open control panel and check if there is Realtek sound manager (Realtek soundcard) and play a little bit with sound effects settings.

No sound after upgrading to Windows 8 HP G60-553NR Notebook

I recently upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7 64-bit on my HP G60-553NR and went through 3 tiers of tech support with Windows because after upgrading to Windows 8 Pro.... I had no sound coming from my speakers from my notebook nor will sound play when headphones are plugged in. Windows Tech support said that there are no compatable sound drivers to download, which leaves me with no sound completely which is no bueno. So, is there a driver that I can download that will work on my notebook?! If not, how do I downgrade to Windows 7. I'm a DJ and I really need some sound like asap. If you have discs - put first in and boot.

No sound in MPEG2 video after upgrading to QT 7.6.6

I still have a problem with QT playing the sound of MPEG2 videos after upgrading to QT 7.6. I had this problem one year ago and solved it by downgrading to QT 7.5. Now I did the automatic update suggested by the system which insrtalled QT 7.6.6
Unfortunately again no sound when playing MPEG2 videos (I have the MPEG2 QT component installed). When converting the video to MPEG1 or MP4 there are no problems at all. So it seems to be a problem of the MPEG2 component together with QT 7.6
Any idea how I could solve this? Is the a MPEG2 component update which works with QT 7.6?

I downloaded the new MPEG2 component (unfortunately I had to pay the 20 EUR as my previous download has been in something liek 2008 and is no longer registered in the Apple Store
Strange! I made my original pre-QT v6.4 MPEG-2 component purchase in September of 2002 and it was automatically updated to the version for QT 6.4 thru QT v7.5 which was then automatically updated for QT v7.6 and later. It would seem the European stores may operate differently than the US store. You may wish to hang onto you purchase information in case this ever happens again in order to discuss the matter with Customer Service or at least learn the specific terms/limitations of your purchase agreement and/or account.
I hope this solves the problem but it seems most likely that the incompatibility of the old MPEG2 component and QT 7.6.x is the reason for my problem. You may be right
I opened up the installer package after reading your latest post and noticed a statement that QT 7.6 is "required" for this update. So it looks like there were some compatibility issues with the change to QT v7.6 software.

For your iCloud backup, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding. WPA security Types are missing after upgrading to Windows 8.1

After upgrading from Windows 8 Pro 64bit to Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit on my Sony Vaio Duoe 13, I could not find WPA security type while configuring Wireless network manually. (only WPA2 and 802.1X are available).
I have done a lot of troubleshootings like
1-Reinstall Wirless original driver
2-Updating the wireless driver to the latest
3-Uninstall and reinstall windows 8 then upgrading again to windows 8.1
But the same.
Is there any way to add WPA to the security type?

To recap : My laptop has an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG adapter, windows 8.1. Even when it had windows 8, it was unable to connect, but unlike now, I didn't look closely enough about the type of network. Originally I thought it was
this problem. But they confirmed that others with windows 8 had no issues with this. Then , when I tried configuring the network manually, I could not find the WPA-enterprise option at all, only the
WPA2-enterprise.
So here I was, and Greg Seth's answer gave me an idea.
In the following instructions, some commands are obvious, so I won't explain unless necessary. So here's what you do :
0) Go to command line, preferably Administrator (not tried without).
1) C:\Windows\System32> cd \Users\<User>\Documents
2) C:\Users\<User>\Documents> netsh
3) netsh> wlan
4) netsh wlan> show profiles
5) delete profile name=<yournetwork>
Enclose the name of network within quotes, this is to ensure that you can cleanly set up the right profile. Don't close the netsh, we'll need it some more. If you do, just reach there the same way as before.
6) Right click the connection icon in lower right corner > open Network and Sharing Center > Set up a new connection or network > Manually connect to a wireless network
7) Try to create a profile, and try to get as many details to correspond with your requirement. The rest we'll edit in command line, so let's make it as easy as possible.
8) Do the same at the next screen. Edit Network settings > change all the parameters that you can, to match the requirement. My university tech support has a detailed document listing the options to choose, usually for windows 7, or even windows 8. get
as many of them as possible.
9) Finish. Move back to your netsh terminal
10) netsh wlan> show profile <profilename>
without quotes this time. This should show your previous attempt at creating a profile in the GUI dialog boxes. In my case, it had WPA2 and AES. It has to become WPA and TKIP. I also set my authMode to userOnly, since I hadn't done it right in the dialog box
before.
11) netsh wlan> set profileparameter
displays a humongous list of parameters with detailed options, just carefully examine the syntax. It's all here.
12) netsh wlan> set profileparameter name=<profilename> authentication=wpa encryption=tkip authMode=userOnly
13) netsh wlan> set profileparameter
Don't exit this yet.
14) Now click the connection icon, and connect to the network. It will ask you the username and password in a different style, that was my clue something was different this time.
15) It should connect. In my case atleast, it did. Verify by browsing.
16) netsh wlan> export profile name=<profile name>
In order that you're not put through this ordeal again, export the profile safely to a file. Again, the profile name in quotes.
17) Wonder why microsoft makes things difficult for us!

6. Click Update Driver.
7. Click Search automatically for updated driver software.
8. An AMD driver should be found and installed.
The driver that originally caused this problem is AMD display driver version 15.200.1046.2 dated 7/15/2015.
The driver installed through this process might have an older date, such as 15.200.1055.0 dated 7/6/2015. That's okay.

I'm having the same problem. I got error message 21. I went to apple store. they are saying i have a hardware error. Really, my phone was working before the update. Asked me for $150 to get another one when I am due to get a new one and wanted to pass this one on to my child.

My HP LaserJet 1536 Scanner will not work after upgrading to Windows 10

I just upgraded to Windows 10, and now the scanner will not work, although I can still print. I downloaded the latest driver, but this does not seem to help. The error message I get states that scanner communication cannot be established. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

I would start with the simple, have you tried just restarting the computer? Have you made sure your computer has all of it's windows updates? How can I tell if my computer is up to date? Most products do have updated software available for Windows 10, did you install the correct driver?HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver I've also seen a few posts that say the Windows 8.1 driver will work for Windows 10 as well, so you could try that too.  HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. I recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor, if it doesn't fix it automatically let me know what errors or messages you receive.  Do you know if you are able to scan using Paint? (It's the same for Windows 10, from what I've been told)Right-click the Start button () in the lower left corner of the screen, click Search, and then type ...Click Paint in the results.Click File, and then click From scanner or camera.Select your printer, click OK, and then click Scan. After upgrading to windows 8.1, the wifi is not working anymore.
I cannot find the wifi driver in the device managerment and I cannot see any information about wifi driver.
I try to re-setup the driver many times and checked the wireless module was enabled in the BIOS. But it is no progressing at all. I can only access to the Internet through the wire now...
Please help me.!!!

You should go into the Control Panel / Sound to assure that your sound device is set to Default. Also, right click on the speaker icon in the Taskbar / Playback devices and check that your speakers are displayed.

I am using a Brother MFC 8460N and on Brother's site it says its compatible with win 8.1 and that the driver is already installed. When I try to scan I am told there is no preset (there was with win 7 though) and I have to "custom scan." When I try that, I hear a sound as if the printer is trying to scan, but the feeder can't pull the paper through. I then get a blank .pdf as my scan. Thanks for your advice. I will try that.

USB device keeps disconnecting/connecting after upgrading to Windows 8.1

I have a device(Pedal for Sim Racing) connected via USB, everything is working fine in Windows 7 and 8 but after upgrading my machine to Windows 8.1 the device keeps disconnecting and connecting for like every 2 seconds. But after I open the Property Sheet
in Game Controllers panel the disconnection issue was gone, if I reconnect the device the issue persist. Other people who have similar device also encounters the same issue after upgrading to windows 8.1. The issue persist with or without the device driver
installed.
Any idea, what might cause this?

I'v got this exact same problem with my Win 7 desktop. I've also got pedals and wheel but don't see it as different than all the other USB devices. I'm using a bunch of USB, but no hubs, including 3 external storage hard drives. But the momentary
disconnect appears in all devices as best as i can see..even my long time trouble free head phones..keyboard..and all. Sometimes the sound goes away and if I unplug and replug them the sound comes back, and other times I have to exit and re enter the
game. I also get video crashes ..maybe not related.IDK..and have to restart all, because I've got three black screens in Eyefinity. For years my system was trouble free and its just slowly started getting worse. I've thought it had to do with system "sleep"
etc but long ago went to never sleep max performance etc..Makes no difference. Keep thinking its my hardware or my house wiring etc..But can't seem to solve it. I replaced my Mobo/chip/ram maybe 6 months ago and that appears to have not helped. It seems
to be getting worse. I hate to start replacing parts piece by piece..cost a lot of money and sometimes doesn't help.
When I'm playing a game I can often hear "faint" sound of USB connect disconnect happening with regularity..that little bing/boink sound etc..So it must just be constantly happening...Seems weird. Didn't have anything like this happening years
ago with pretty much the same hardware and same Win7 with the continuing updates etc.
What can be causing this common problem?
