Lower speeds after moving BACK to master socket

Around a week ago, I relocated my HH5 and mastersocket back to the entry point into my home (it was using all manner of rubbish extension cabling) and since then my sync speeds have dropped. Before the relocation, I was achieving a sync of > 60Mbps, now it won't exceed 56Mbps. HH5 stats:
The "zero" values on the line and signal attenuation are a little odd. Any ideas at what I should look for?

Are you looking for a missing 4Mbps sync speed?
The speeds don't seem unreasonable for the attenuation and the noise margin is near to 6. If you attracted DLMs attention when you were tidying up the wiring, normal service should be restored in a few days, maybe a couple of weeks.
If sync speed reduces however, you may have a noise problem.

  • Low Speed after apparent fix

    Hi there,
Recently (The past 5 - 6 weeks) i have been experiencing very low internet connection speeds, im used to 3.30mb down and 0.80mb up and a ping of around 32 to 42.
2 weeks ago a made a call to BT technical support that helped me work out what was going on, i did the usualy line testing, using the tester socket and so on that lead them to send out a engineer who replaced the drop cable to the house as i live on a lane that only has one other house here and the cables are very old an poorly maintained even some of the cables vanish into the trees/branches at some points (Outside of the property boundries ofcourse).
After he left and did his final tests the line was fine again it was up to 4mb down and a good 0.90mbs (wireless test) up as the drop cable was now new so a boost in quality was kinda expected, the weather effected the quality oftern before it was replaced and sometimes when you used the phone in the poor weather you could hear crackles on the line.
I know the line is montored after a repair job like this but i have only ever seen it go down untill i'm back to the speed it was before the drop cabel was replaced.
After doing the line test recommented here i can see the speed is very low, I would'nt even call this broadband at the moment, and the IP profile now only says 1mb Max upload which can't be right as ive been consistantly having an uploading speed of 3 - 4mb for a few years now roughly 5 - 7, so instantly thats a potently error at the exchange.
Here are the results of the BT Test  (Tester Socket Wired)
And here is a noise test taken at the same time.
Hope this information helps, other tests show that speed arraving from the exchange is 1.15
    Thank you

  • Low speed after 10 day stabilisation period

    Hi all,
I had my BB activated on the 1st Nov & was syncing at 17.000kbps, Next day we were only getting 4.543kbps.
Not knowing what was happening i rang BT. The chap on the phone told me about the 10 day stabilisation period, So i thought ok fair doo's and left it at that.
So the 11th of Nov comes and i go to check the router stats...
     ADSL Link                 Downstream          Upstream
Connection Speed      4543 kbps     1211 kbps
Line Attenuation        20.5 db            12.2 db
Noise Margin              30.1 db             6.2 db
These stats have been the same as from the 2nd of November till now the 12th.
Sooooo i rings up BT again and askes if they could manually configure my line as im thinking the 10 day stabilisation period is up and that ip profile must of got stuck or something.
But this chap is telling me he can not manually configure the line i've got to wait another 10 days?
Is this the norm for BT? As before i switched to BT i was with Sky & could not remember 20 days stabilisation period.
Was i just beeing fobbed off or do i really have to wait another 10 days? The chap on the phone was pritty sure he could not do anything till the 20th if my speed had not changed.
Begining to wish i stayed with Sky now

Hi, i've no problems with disconnections but i have manualy power cycled the router a few times and we have a token electric meter which tends to go off every 2-3 days which cant be helped
The electric went today around 8 or 9am this morning, im guessing this is no good for my line all these power cycles

  • Low speed after latest update of Ellipsis Jetpack (MHS700L) software

    Hi,
I did the update to the Ellipsis Jetpack (MHS700L) about a week ago.
Up to that point my "speed" was normally 65mbps..but since the upgdate
to the Jetpack I get no better than 54mbps.
Nothing else has changed..there are still 3 items connected to the Jetpack,
a Laptop, a Printer and a Desktop system. Nothing about those three has
changed. The only change was the software update to the jetpack...
Any ideas as to why the speed has dropped and not returned to 65mbps!!
    thanks
    tony mcclain

    HI,
I guess I solved my problem...
Uninstalled all software realted to using
    this jetpack...reinstalled latest updated
    software for jetpack, desktop wireless
    adapter and restatred everying...and
    voila!!! everything works now..
    Getting steady 65mbps speed..
not great but I do live in the boondocks.!!
    so..problem solved

  • Another question (master socket)

Sorry for another question, but this is a forum after all .
Tomorrow all being well I should receive my welcome pack and business hub and on Friday I should receive Infinity, however I need something answered before the installation begins on Friday.
When I moved in my master socket, well, it had no faceplate on the bottom half (just a test socket basically) so I got myself one of those ADSLNation faceplate things which fit to the bottom half of the master socket and work as a filter. My question is:
    - Should I remove the ADSLNation faceplate, use a standard micro-filter instead and explain to the engineer (if he queries it) that when I moved in there was no faceplate on the lower half of the master socket?
    ... or ...
    - Should I leave it as it is with the ADSLNation faceplate on the front (screws don't properly fit either so I didn't bother with screws for that)?
Just concerned that if I appear to have used the ADSLNation (in other words not official BT faceplate) instead of an official BT one then the engineer might make a fuss or something?
    Many thanks.

I see. Thanks for the clarification everyone.
I'll either take it off before Friday morning and use a normal micro-filter, so that it has no opportunity to go missing with the engineer, or if I decide to leave it there I'll make sure the engineer doesn't take it with him (as it doesn't belong to him after all, since I purchased that from ADSLNation and may at some point in the future need it again, e.g. if I moved years later to a location where Infinity isn't currently supported).

  • Master Socket Re-Location

    Now I know You can pay Open Reach to do this at a cost of about £130 but my question is;
My master scocket is smack in the middle of my kitchen, you can imagine how annoying this is. I already have my open reach modem mounted on the wall of my kitchen and refuse to keep the Homehub there too.
If I wish to have my master socket re-located to my office round the side of my house I need to lift a row of blocks from my driveway and pre-lay the cable. However I don’t want to go to all this trouble and expense just for the Open Reach man to turn up and go Ohhh mate you needed blue cable not grey...
    My questions are:
    ·         Is there someone I can contact without going round the houses (excuse the pun) to ask what cable to acquire and whether this is acceptable?
    ·         Shall I use standard phone cable or should I future proof it and lay Cat6?
    Thank You For your time.

Thank you both for your sound advice and both are good comments.
I favour the moving of the master socket as if I leave the OR modem where it is I still have to get the CAT5E/6 cable back into the middle of the kitchen.
I have tried power-line adapters for the last leg but found them unreliable.
If I move the whole shooting match I can just drill through the back of the phone socket in the study and the new cable can go from the outside junction box by the front door to the study socket. BT can then upgrade this to a filter socket.
Thanks Lads for your advice, This has inspired me to get off my bum and get it done.

  • Can't open Numbers file after moving it back to Mac from Dropbox

Please help!  Can't open Numbers file after moving it back to iMac from Dropbox.   Says I need the newer version of Numbers each time I tried to open the file.  I am 100% sure that I had the newest version.   Spoke to the AppleCare guy and after doing the checks he is also sure that I had the latest version of Numbers and AppleCare can't help.  He suggested that maybe i should run it on a file repair program...any suggestion?... please help...

I've read reports of people having trouble when storing Numbers 3 documents on Dropbox.  I think it's related to the fact that they're not really "files."  They're "packages" that look like files. I had thought that Dropbox had cleared this up with their latest update. You should be on Dropbox version 2.4 or later.
If you have Time Machine you may have some luck going back in time and restoring the document from a previous version.
Storing Numbers documents on iCloud works much better, at least for me, and (unlike Dropbox) iCloud facilitates automatic syncing to other Macs and iOS devices signed into the same Apple ID.
Perhaps you could consider keeping Numbers documents in iCloud instead. iCloud is deeply integrated into the app, and now works well.

  • Broadband speed / lack of master socket

My broadband speed according to all the speed tests is around 0.5Mb/s - sad, I know.   One of the things I wanted to try to bump it up a bit was to plug the router into the master socket.  It looks like we don't have one but one of those old junction box things above the front door.  Has anyone had any luck trying to persuade BT to replace a junction box with a normal master socket?  All advice welcome.

That thing above your door will just be a block terminal, they have them in place because the external cable can not extend inside your premises for more than two metres. This is because the plastic sheathing on it releases chemicals when burns, but to be honest if your house is on fire there are probably 101 other plastic household items that will also release harmful fumes on top of the already harmful fumes from the fire itself.
By the sounds of you will just have a LJU for your NTP, aka master socket. Will probably have the old T logo on it?
Anyway, as mentioned above you can't just ask they come and replace it. Openreach operate a 'if it ain't broke don't fix it policy' so if you called an engineer out they will charge you £130 for a wasted visit as it will have been right when tested. Depending on the engineer, he may replace it while on site but chances are he might not as it will be an easy close for him and he can get to his next job.

  • Can I get my master socket moved?

I have really slow connection, partly because I live in a rural area, and also because I have my router plugged into a extension socket because the master socket is in a unreachable place (seems a bit odd o.0). I just wanted to know if I could have my master socket moved downstairs, and if so, what part of BT should I call and what will they actually do if I do get it moved. Thanks

It will be chargeable to move the master to do so you need to phone 0800800150 and get the sales peopple to arrange it being moved

  • How to restore my 2 mail acc. after incorrectly moving back .plist file ?

This morning my Mail was quitting 5 sec. every time time I opened it. I moved com.apple.mail.plist file to trash, started Mail. I got a message that one of my mail boxes(don't remember which one..) will be renamed.
I guess I made a mistake by opening Mail and not Mail.app ?
Closed Mail and moved back .plist file into Library/Pref.
Here I made another mistake by dragging incorrectly, it was placed into some other program. I deleted the other program, and moved the .plist into Library/Prefer.
As the result, my both Mail accounts are gone, and instead I have now MobileMe in my Inbox.
How to restore my accounts now please ???
    Thanks!!!

I have both POP accounts in Library/Mail. What should I do to have both POP in the Mail ?
To drag both to desktop and then to Mail? how and exactly where ?
or to create these two POP again in Mail and then drag both POP folders there ?

  • IPhoto doesn't import after moving iPhoto library back to original (?) spot

    Hello:
Because I needed space on my original drive, I moved iPhoto library to another drive and then moved it back. iPhoto works perfectly well - It automatically loads my photos. But - when I attempt to import from my Canon Digital Rebel, it won't do it, giving a message that these files (all 7 photos in the camera) may be corrupt.
However - the photos do import correctly on my wife's Mac.
I am thinking that I did not put the iPhoto library back in exactly the right spot.
    Where should it go?
Oh - and Happy New Year!

    Hi Iann,
There is really no right spoet as you can place the iPhoto Library folder almost anywhere in your Users folder. The Pictures folder is the default location for the folder.
What I need to know is, when you moved the library to another spot, did you open iPhoto when it was there? And when you moved back to the original spot, did iPhoto open?
When you move the iPhoto Library folder, you must then launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed. iPhoto will then tell you that it can't find the library , and do you want to open another one or create a new one. You must then choose to open another one and navigate to where you moved it, then highlight it in the window, then click "open"

  • Satellite C850 - Low fan speed after BIOS update

    Hello,
So I have my Satellite C850-PSKCEV bios updated around 6 months ago to version 6.80 (I bought my laptop in 2012), and since then the fan is running at low speeds and will never run full speed as before, and as a consequence the laptop overheats prematurely and very fast, and even when the laptop is not in use but left running it does overheat, also gaming is not even possible as any game that I run (even with the lowest settings) gets a fps drop every 5 seconds and lasts 5-10 seconds which renders even the lightest games unplayable, also I am afraid of the continuous overheat to damage the laptop's internal components.
I did clean the fan and vents from dust and there is not even one particle inside them and yet the fan won't run fast and I can't feel but very slight airflow from the vents as apposed to the strong one before this problem.

  • Current master socket in an adjacent room to study...

I'm moving house next week, with BT Infinity on order.
My master socket is in the adjacent room to where I'd like it to be.  I understand the installation comes with a 30m extension kit if needed, but will the engineer be happy drilling between rooms, or do I need to do this before arrival, and if so, do I need to pre-lay cat 5/6?

    PROBLEM SOLVED!
EDIT:  Comments and pictures removed as requested by BT mods.  How come I can discuss this but not allow to post pictures or discuss this any fruther???
After some investigation and more twiddling with trail and error.  I found out that the cause of the connection was down to a loose master socket
From the image above, you can see I've moved the whole front facial to get access to the socket at the wall.  The lighter shaded part was quite loose and I suspected when I put the NTE2000 in, it push the master socket back and did not make a full connection.  To over come this I wedge some hard plasic behind it and put the whole unit back together.  Of course I tested this in between with my modem but as you can see below the 3rd light to the right - we have the internet!
Now the next problem, did a speed test and i'm hitting 3.5mb instead of the 7mb I was hoping with this adapter.  I connected the brown (orange - socket 2) wire in to see if that made a differance but is that what's effect my speed.
