Lowercase L and Uppercase i displaying weird in Acrobat

Question

Hello, I have an illustrator file that I saved as an EPS (with fonts turned to outlines) and ran it through Distiller to convert to a PDF. When I open the file in Acrobat 8 Professional and view it at 100% the lowercase L's (l) and the uppercase i's (I) look weird, kind of like they are much bolder than the other letters. When printed or zoomed in on, everything looks fine. This happens with pretty much all of my files with a sans serif font, typically Helvetica.
Does anyone know why this is happening or how to avoid it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You certainly don't have to worry about the user having the font as long
as you use fonts that are embeddable.
If you don't want to allow text to be editable, then you can do this to
some extent with various document security options.

You can also change the fonts to Text outlines within Acrobat 7 or 8. In 7 its far far easier to do just go to PDF Optimizer choose fonts and select convert text to outline the do optimize file.
In 8 it far, far, far more convoluted and complicated. You have to go to advanced >Print Production > Flatener preview. go through that menu and select convert text to outlines Then save the profile you created. Then go to optimizer and choose the profile you created. Then run optimizer.
If you happen to add a background or water mark as well it will increase the size of 250K files to about 6.5 Mb but all text in the the pdf will become outlines. In otherwords you just converted an editable PDF to strictly a GRaphic. If you have to make corrections you have to start over withe original and do it again. The size increase applies whether you use 7 or 8. but the procedure takes about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes less. in 7 than 8.
