LP to CD Recording probl

Hi all,
I am trying to record my LP's to CD and have having some recording problems. I have an old AKAI AP-82 turntable connected to an AKAI AM-U03 amplifier. This in turn is connected via the tape rec output to my Audigy Platnum Pro Line-in 3 jacks (I have also tested this with the lin-out on the amp with the same results).
Anyway, I can listen to LP's and the sound quality is great. However, if I record an LP the sound recording (WAV or MP3) sounds a little hollow or muffled, certainly not the same quality as the sound I am hearing when I listed to the LP.
I am using the Creative MediaSource Player to do the recordings.
Anysuggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Mark

Make sure you have both "Effects" and "Clean-Up" DISABLED in the EAX console.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Platnum Pro Multitrack recording probl

I hope I am in the right forum. This one looks pretty close.
I have the Audigy 2ZS Platnum Pro in a brand new Compaq Prisario w/AMD (64) CPU running Windows XP w/52 megs of RAM. I bought this card new a couple of years ago and got frustrated trying to learn to multitrack with it. I recently installed the card in the above mentioned computer and went back to trying to learn to use this device. When setting the driver in Cubasis VST 4.0 I used the driver that came with my Audigy card like the instructions say to do but it caused my "sample rate" to be set to 9600khz. The instructions say to run at 44.khz to avoid problems but that is not an option with the Audigy driver. I tried several different recordings before I tried a full song. Things were going fairly well till I used the Audigy Pro driver, I started recording and my computer went wako on me then reset to the command prompt and began rebooting but it was like it was in some strange loop or something. It was hard to get it turned off and then reboot the computer. This happened a couple of times. I quit trying to use the Audigy driver and and tried all the other drivers listed in the audio setup program. I actually got a nice recording with my midi piano and a vocal track somewhere in all that crap. I ran into problems when mixing down though. All that came out was the vocal. Like the midi tract wasn't even there. I followed the tutorial word for word but things just didn't work out. I'm still trying to figure that oue out. Since the mix down went wrong I am having what I think is called "fall out". When I record my piano (midi) the play back sounds like I was playing irratic. Like I had hicups or something. And that is before even adding any other instruments. I tried all I know to do with my limited knowledge of recording software and ended up doing a "recovery" of the oporating sustem in hope of setting whatever went wrong back to factory settings. That didn't help. I upgraded from the factory 52 megs ram to gig, that hasn't helped. I am starting to loose my temper and that is not a good thing. Too much expensice stuff in my room. If someone can please help I will be forever in your debt. Lastly I already did the setting the processor to "back ground processing". Thank you. Jeff

I think, it's best if you use Creative bundled ASIO drivers @ 6-bit/48kHz 'resolution' (even your card perhaps supports 24-bit/96kHz w/ ASIO -> is the Cubases capable for this).
Depending on your CPU performance, you should keep the ASIO I/O latency setting under 0ms when recording/monitoring.
Also, remember set your 'project' to same resolution the driver is set to.
When you're recording external sources (through line/mic/etc. ports), use AnalogMix/Line-In n for line source(s) and microphone for microphone recordings (recording/input source selection).
You mentioned reading some tutorial .. was it the same bundled w/ Audigy? If not then, check this thread for more information -

BTW, have you tried w/ other recording software (like demos for sonar, li've, etc.)?

  • Audigy 2 NX Recording Probl

I am using Sound Blaster Audigy 2NX and I am trying to make CD's from my LP collection. My computer is running Windows ME and in case it's part of the problem, my speakers are Altec Lansing model# AC2W.
    I am having two problems.
The first problem is it seems to record the music, but you can barely hear anything through the speakers, as if there's no volume to the recording itself. So I'd like to know if it's the speakers that are the problem or some setting or if the recording really IS at that low of a level. The speakers are plugged into the computer tower itself.
The second problem is whenever I try to use any of the applications other than or in relation to Creative Media Source (like Speaker Settings), I get an error message that says, "The audio device supported by this application is not detected." What audio device is it talking about and how do I fix it's

    Petoo,
The device that it is looking for is the Audigy 2 NX. When the Audigy 2 NX is plugged into the USB port and turned on, go to Control Panel and Sounds and Audio Devices. Click on the Audio Tab and make sure that the default Playback Device and Recording Device options are set to the SB Audigy 2 NX. Then try launching the software for it. Also does the other sound that is coming out of the Audigy 2 NX sound low in volume? If so make sure that the volume in the mixer for the Audigy 2 NX is turned up.

  • Zen Micro voice recording probl

I borrowed my roommate's Zen Micro to record some li've voice tracks. I recorded fine, and I am able to listen to them on headphones with the Micro.
The problem I am having is getting these tracks to a place on the computer where I can can make the tracks into a disc. I downloaded the software for the player from the disc that my roommate has twice now, with the same results. The Zen Micro media explorer does not recognize the player when it is plugged in, and neither does the Creative Media Source software. Windows Media Player (verion ) does recognize it, and I can download the tracks, but when I try to play them back, it just scrolls through each one and will not actually play them.
So, I have tried dowloading the software, removing it and downloading it again. I tried the old version of Media Player, with the result being that I could not view the player at all, so reinstalled version . I am running XP with SP2.
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated, as these recordings are for a gift!

Yes, you can put the recordings onto your computer in WMA format. The sound quality is great for what I use it for.

  • SB Audigy LS recording probl

Hi, using Sound Forge and Cubase softwares for music creation, I've got two problems I couldn't solve:
First, when I use Sound Forge and try to record sounds via the option "what you hear" of my sound card (well, it's "ce que vous entendez" in French, anyway) in order to record sounds going through Windows directly, like passages of movies, etc, I have a very annoying echo I can't remove. I checked all parameters, all audio effects are disabled. The volume switches of my sound card are all high so I thought about interference, but even when I lower them, including the record switch, it's just the same thing, I've got this echo, only during the recording, 'coz once I stop recording, sound becomes normal again. And obviously, when I listen to what I've just recorded, I have this echo.
Secondly, when I use Sound Forge or Cubase and I want to record voice via microphone, the volume is very low, even though the mic volume switch of my sound card is the highest, I can shout in the mic, the dB does not reach the yellow level.
All used to work well, I didn't change my audio configuration, I even installed the most recent driver on this website, but nothing changed. A friend told me it might be because I've got many softwares installed on my hard dri've (I got a partition: software HD, 3.5 Go available on 30 Go; data HD, 5.5 Go available on 30 Go). I still got some place left, so I doubt it might be this.
Does anyone have a clue? I'll be waiting for your kind help!!

I stumbled across this post while searching for a fix for my SoundBlaster Li've!. Basically everything worked fine under Win98. I upgraded to WinXP and the card appeared to be installed with no conflicts but I had no sound and I couldn't set a default playback device in "Sounds and Devices" because they were greyed out. I ran the Creative Diagnostic test and the Hardware test passed but all the driver tests failed.
I fixed this problem by going to
    Start > Control Panel > Administrati've Services > Services
Locate "Windows Audio" and make sure the service is started. If the service is not started right-click and select properties. Change the startup type to automatic and click start.
Hope this helps anyone who stumbles across this post while looking for fixes.

  • 44.1 recording proble

I have some strange problem recording on my Li've!24 card using 44.kHz sampling frequency. When I record at 48 or 96 kHz, everything goes just fine, but when I record at 44.kHz, my recorded file appears shorter than it should be. For instance if I make a precize 0 minutes file, the result will be 9:58 approx. It makes my work impossible since I have several projects at 44.kHz and I just can't record anything in sync with the existing data.
Every troubleshooting advice was followed - although I have not the one VIA chipset Li've! appears to have problems with, I have the latest 4in driver installed and the latest BOIS update.

  • Follow up info to "Multiple track recording probl

I used Cakewalk's Sonar 3 Producer's Ed, Cubasis and Diamond Xtreme's Audacity. 3 different recording studio desktop software packages and they all do the same wrong things as described in my initial post.

    Thanks Dave.
Tell me, do you know of file size importing limitations with Logic Express. The Digidesign people are telling me there is a 2Gb file limitation for importation into ProTools LE.
I was planning on backing up recording multiple WAV files on a Mackie hard disc multi-track recorder that creates separate mono WAV files for each track.
Snag is that I was hoping to hit record and leave it running for several hours - which could create WAV files that are quite sizable.
Either that or find a way to cut a WAV file into smaller pieces - but I've got a feeling that its not possible to do this.

  • Recording probl

I've searched and found no-one else with this problem, but i wonder if someone can help me. I am trying to record a simple sound clip from my guitar through a small mixer and into my computer, into?a program called adobe audition v.5. The problem I am having is that it records the sound sharp of what is actually being played. S if?I play a C chord it comes back to me sounding more like a C#?Any one got any ideas on what the problem might be and therefore how to fix it's?Thanks

I do not have much experience with USB midi devices however since no one else has reponded here is what I know. There is ample information and literature available on USB . MIDI recording sync problems. Typically you will find most of that kind of information at music recording software websites. Most of what I have come across is in various forums at www.cakewalk.com but I am sure Steinberg and others should have pertinent advice as well. From what I have seen the situation is generally not good and difficult to resolve unless you upgrade to a USB 2.0 device. That said, you may want to do a search at some of these sites for folks who have had problems with your specific setup. The good thing is that Creative Labs hardware is so prevalent that it is usually quite easy to find others who have advice to pass on to you.

  • Audigy 2 platinum- recording probl

i have been experiencing a slight problems with my sound card. i would record media from any source (mic,wave,line-in) and when i do a playback, it is choppy or plays choppy and very fast. i've tried many things to fix this like switching slots, updating drivers and even re-formated my hard dri've and still the problem hasent been resolved. has this happened to anyone else? please tell me how you have resolved this

I came here looking for this exact problem. However mine is NEVER in sync when I use the SPDIF mode. As soon as I turn it to normal stereo it works fine. In a related issue, the sound playback of any DVD is about half of everything else on my system. I have to turn up the volume to about 80% to hear a DVD at a listenable level whereas normal volume for me is at 40%.
My stats are as follows: P4 3.2c, Abit IC7-G, 2GB DDR PC3200, Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, BFG 6800GT OC, XP Home SP2, and the Nvidia DVD Decoder. Everything is running the latest drivers. The volume problem has been happening ever since I purchased this ZS. I never had the problem with my older Audigy 2. The SPDIF issue is new to me since I have only recently been using it. Any ideas?

:\Yeah, i have the onboard sound disabled in the Bios, i've also disabled everything 'not used' in the control panel(sounds)because some people said that the buzzing sound could be some signal interference caused by unused ports or something.
These two are bugging me mostly at the moment and then there's also the fact that i can't enable any enhancements because i get ram leakage.. also the crackling sound thing happens pretty randomly and then fixes itself, i have yet to figure it out..
EDIT: Perhaps i am missing something?Should i install anything else apart from that driver & control panel?driver download also includes the control panel, which works perfectly fine. What i did before installing the driver was: uninstall everything creative related using the included CD as they suggest, then delete every single creative app, directory etc.. boot in safe mode, run driversweeper for creative, restart, clean the registry with ccleaner.. restart and THEN install the drivers, with antivirus etc disabled. So there's no way something went wrong on that department :P :P

  • Windows Vista, Audio and Recording Proble

I have just installed Windows Vista, and am having some serious problems with my audio. My problem is, that my mic does not function at all, and i have spent two days trying to fix this. My sound card is a Creative Soundbalster 5. sound card, and?apparenty will not work,?as it is supposedly?not Vista supported, but please, prove me wrong. I can only get sound output if i use intergrated, as there seems to be no drivers for 64-Bit VistaI?am using intergrated sound at the moment, and i can hear fine, but my mic will not work at all.
I have tried all the obvious options and as said, spent two days trying to fix it. As stated, i am running 64-Bit Windows Vista, and have a Creative SoundBlaster 5. that has no drivers. When i use intergrated, i get sound but the mic wont work.Any help at all would be appreciated, so please, help if you know anything. Thanks, Nos.

If you try the modded drivers by Daniel_K, you will get full functionality like in XP. But if you still want to have Vista's enhancements, then you should modify the Installation INF of the drivers.
I have detailed the necessary steps in this thread a long time ago.

  • Audigy 4 Pro Low Recording Levels/Master Knob/OSD probl

I purchased a second-hand Audigy 4 Pro. I was not given the software disk but managed to install the latest drivers and get it to play MP3s. I use Adobe Audition to record my old tapes to MP3 and record my attempts at guitar. With my SBLi've I had no problem. I bought the Pro because of the ease of using the breakout box. However I have some quesions about some problems I am having. ) Since I have no Creative software, just Win XP Mixer I don't seem to be able to control the input levels from either the mixer or the box. I have a tape deck using RCA to Line In 3 and an electric and acoustic guitar to Line In 2. The mixer record levels seem to have no effect. I can record but nothing seems to be much more than -20db or so at most. Could this be because Adobe Audition only shows Line In 3 L (ie one channel only)? Could this be because of the much greater dynamic range of the Audigy 4 compared to the SBLi've Value? Do I need additional Creative software and if so what and how to get it please?2) The Master knob on the breakout box just spins round and round without sto

Wow these forums still suck. You have easy questions and no one bothered to help you out. I registered jsut to answer them for you although you probably already figured it all out. . It seems that loudness is optomized by creatives own drivers. What you described was also true back when you could use the e-mu driver hacks before creative bought e-mu. 2. The master knob indeed spins for infinity, obviously with no effect once you get to either end. This sucks becasue i have OCD and constanly spin this thing all kinds of ways. THey should have used the same system as the line-/mic knob. Only God and the engineer will ever know why they did this. 3 Yes. The on screen display is pat of the creative media player app.
So to solve all your problems, you can get the full software package from creative.com under the support menu. Just follow the menu options for your device. The software requires that you have the hardware which you do so the software is free. One more problem you WILL have. The software doesnt install under XP. You have to enter windows safe mode and install it from there otherwise the whole thing freezes up during the start of the install process. Fun times!

  • Can do everything except record with USB card. Motherboard probl

Hi all. Here's a problem that I'm stumped on. I've looked through the previous entries and tried various things already. I'm using an older external SB soundcard (Audilogy MP3 #580270) and a newer computer (AMD Anthlon 64x2 dual core) that was sold with Vista, but I converted it back to XP-SP2. I've done the Autoupdate and gotten all the latest drivers from Creative's website. The automatic diagnostics in the app say everything's working fine. The device manager says it's fine. I can here audio coming in on the soundcard, I can play files from application. However, I CAN'T get it to record. It looks like it's recording, but nothing transfers. I've checked the all the audio levels and nothing is muted. What's the problem Here are some possibilities. What do you think . The card is just not compatiable with this motherboard. But why can I get the computer to output audio 2. There are other sound drivers that are interfering with this. I've reinstalled various ways. Again, it plays back just fine. How do I disable the other drivers ("audio Codecs") Any ideas Paul

I filed a bug at OSS and I received the message that USB recording through OSS is officially broken and will probably not get fixed in a long time.

  • Recording with the SB Audigy 2 zs plat PRO external is horribly low volume... setup probl

I have my guitar plugged into line /line 2 and whenever I enable recording, the sound that is recorded is incredibly low. I have to set my speaker and system volume to the max just to hear a little bit of sound(i have the 7. S750 creative speakers). I also experiance this with the mic i'm using. I'm using a cheaper professional Shure microphone and have it hooked up, via a XLR converter form radio shack, to my external SB hub. This mic requires no pre-amp and its turned on but the sound is also very low. I was wondering if this is normal, or if i'm missing some vital peace of information on how to record properly. Oh and also, I have the recording volume maxed in media source and on the external hub and I have also used the M-Audio: mobile pre usb, to record with the same guitar/microphone, and it sounded fine volume wise, what gives? my rate is 320 bits.

    OldPainless,
I'm hoping that means that you found the connector and all is working now? I know it happens around here more often than we would like to admit. Frequently swapping out hardware leads to forgotten things like this.

  • MIDI Recording & Playing Probl

Hey guys.. A few things:?. In XP you could record MIDI output as audio (i.e. like "what you hear" except just the sound of the midi soundfont of what you were playing - file/midi in) but now there is no recording option for MIDI - HELP?2. My MIDI in is all screwy now - using a USB midi controller, it plays the most random notes all over the place. - HELP??(. is way more important than 2.)?cheers,Semp.

I'm not explaining myself properly:?I'm using Adobe Audition or Sonar 6 - I have 4 tracks with Guitar, Drum, Vocals and Harmony - I want to record MIDI strings over the top. Normally in XP, I change the recording source to MIDI and record an audio track with midi in it (it's a wav recorded from the midi I play)... If I try and use "What I hear" or the like - it records every track that is playing as I try and accompany myself...
