LP8 Sample Editor Bug

Selecting a section of audio (say in the middle) and turning on cycle should play the selection from the start and end points selected. Instead it continues past the end point without cycling, playing the entire wave to the end and then cycles back to the very start of the audio and not as selected.
As above with cycle turned off, again it starts correct but continues past the end points.
This also intermittently happened in LP7.
Reported to Apple.

When you ask are you using the local cycle in the Sample Editor, yes?
I take it you are referring to the speaker play icon (spacebar) and cycle between view and volume?
Then the answer is yes

Does Logic's Sample Editor still have bugs ????

because for years the sample editor is been messing up and i've always thought it was my mac...
but on a new mac and still getting the same prblem
Under TIME AND PITCH MACHINE logic will not keep the pitch at the same place where you point unless you hold it down
example: if i change the tempo up by 10bpm, logic will preview it right until i let go off the mouse
even though the numbers and the dot is still showing that its been pitch up
normally it should continue from where ever you last moved the mouse to, you don't need to hold the mouse down through the whole song
is anyone experience this same bug or problem?

LP8 with Leopard 10.5.1 - Error -36 in sample editor

i work with a brand new Mac Pro with Leopard (updated to 10.5.1) and LP8. The biggest problem i have since yesterday is, that i cannot copy a part of a take in the sample editor and paste it into another take. This happened after i did this several times without any error, but suddenly i got only the error code -36. The malfunction is not comming when i copy something and paste it into the same take. But to paste it into another take now is no more possible. Who can help me? With this problem it is not possible for me to make recording further on. Quick help is appreciated.

the first crashes of LP8 i had before the update to Leopard 10.5.1 while i was adjusting the key commands and i was very astonished about the crash by such a simple action. From another side i got the tip, that the problems maybe are caused by the fact, that i loaded a song from Logic 5.5 into LP8. If this is true, it would mean, that i have to create a complete new song in LP8 with all the necessary configurations in the environment, the midi routing and so on. And the second consequence is the real desaster: it is not possible to work with an older song in LP8 - and i have 3 of them! I hope that this is not the reason but from the first it is very important to know the reason for my problems, however.

Track is spoken word. Sample Editor playback sounds like Alvin on a meth binge. Spoken phrase is generated from Textspeech. Textspeech can export files as WAV files or MP3 files. Perhaps a clue?: When exported Textspeech WAV file is dragged and dropped into track in arrange area of new project, it exhibits same supersonic speed. When Textspeech file is exported as MP3 file and dragged and dropped in arrange area track, it plays at correct speed.

If nothing else, this huge list of updates and fixes, shows clearly that the Logic Dev team is working hard on fixing and improving LPX to a major degree.... and from the list of fixes done.. show they do read the bug reports submitted!
As an aside....
I recall how all the 'naysayers' prior to LPX (and in some cases, since...) were proclaiming how Logic was dead, the team was being disbanded, we won't see any further development, the Dev team doesn't listen or care... and so on....... I wonder where those people are now?

Open file in sample editor

Hey forum,
This is probably a super noob question, but I have a clip of a 7 bar guitar line that I want to open in the sample editor so I can reverse it. I know the default is to double-click it, but it has the arrow on the left side and when I double click it, it pulls down the only take that I did of that section (instead of opening in sample editor). I want to know how to do this for other clips with more than one take as well.
So basically, how do I open a snippet in sample editor without double clicking on it?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've actually had to re-install the bug ridden 8.0.0 version to get it to work. Never thought i'd be saying that
I haven't updated it yet as i need to get some work done before i waste another day trying to sort out mysterious errors.

"Open in external sample editor" seems to be broken?

Hey all,
I'm hoping that someone can help me figure this out. I'm using Logic Pro X 10.0.7 in conjunction with Adobe Audition CS6. This problem seems to happen intermittently, and on some of my machines, but not others. I've also witnessed it on others' machines as well.
When I try to open a region of audio in the external sample editor (For which I've set up Adobe Audtion CS6 to do destructive edits), I can manage to get the file to open correctly in Audition. HOWEVER, when I make my edits in audition and try to SAVE the file in Audition to send it back to Logic Pro X, I get an error message that the file cannot be saved because it is "in use by another application". It's almost as if Logic doesn't release the file to the external sample editor in order for it to be overwritten, and updated.
When I switch back to Logic, after I get the error message, Logic "refreshes" the waveform information, but it's still unchanged, because the external sample editor can't save the changes that I've made to the region. Can anyone relate? Offer me useful tips on how to fix this? Is it a bad configuration on my end, or just a bug in Logic?

Ok so I think I might have figured this out on my own... Apparently, if you highlight a region, and the region is open in Logic's Editor window, while you're trying to edit the region with an external editor like Audition, it will throw the "file is in use by another application" error, when you try to save the changes you've made in the external editor. I found that if I close the "Editor" window in Logic, before trying to open the region in Audition, Audition is then able to save the changes to the file.

Sample editor display jumps to file begin on zoom with large files

Hey - does anyone else have this problem:
When I zoom in to the max possible zoom level in the sample editor in Logic (eg to edit single samples with the pencil), in any audio file longer than 12:41, the waveform display suddenly jumps to very beginning of the file.
It happens using either the zoom-in key, zoom slider or zoom tool. It is somewhat infuriating because I have to guess when to stop pressing zoom-in to get as close as i can without triggering the jump. (If i go one zoom level too far, I have to go back, zoom out and re-find my place and try again.)
I did some investigation and the bug in zoom behavior starts happening with audio files a little shy of 12 min 41 sec ( 12:40.871ms to be more exact).
Here are the results in "length in samples" of a test audio file (AIFF 24-bit Stereo, 44100Hz):
33554453 samples and greater => sample editor jumps to beginning when zoomed in to max
33554432 - 33554452 samples => sample editor jumps to END of file when zoomed to max (bizarre, eh? a 20-sample window in which the bug works in the OPPOSITE direction!)
33554431 samples and less => sample editor zoom is normal and zooms in perfectly to the proper location at max zoom.
I also tested other things like trashing my logic prefs and starting from an empty song with nothing in it - none of which make any difference. This bug is present in Logic 8.0.2 on both my Macbook Pro with OS X 10.5.7 and my Powerbook G4 with 10.4.11
Maybe time to report this to apple - can anyone corroborate by just continually pressing your zoom-in key with the cursor in the middle of an audio file longer than 12:41 and see if the display jumps to the beginning?

A BUG ? I reinstalled Logic, and had no success.
Did anybody encounter same bug ?
This is not a bug. In the Sample editor,
if you just hit the delete key, you will always
get a dialog box. BUT if you use the
key command
"control>delete",
"no dialog box"!
a definite time saver. There are so many key
commands that it can be a little overwhelming.
Just check them out sometime. You might
find something you would use alot.

Strangeness in Sample Editor / Arrange

I have an audio file (aif) in my bin. I drag it to the arrange page. It plays fine. I can make edits, create regions, everything one could want. I double click on the region and the Sample Editor opens but with the wrong file - something I had open before. So ok, I figure I'm a reasonable guy, I can adjust, adapt, make changes - so I delete the wrong file from my bin and try again. I click on the aif in the arrange window - the correct file - and the Sample Editor opens and says - Nothing to Display.
I tried moving it to a different track. Still no good. I'd sure like to normalize this file but it won't open in the Sample Editor.
Any ideas, ye comrades of the logic discussion?

Hate that bug! ...or should I say those bug variations:
wrong region displayed
"nothing to display" message
wacky timeline displayed
What works for me:
1. Quickly toggle the sample editor in Arrange open/closed/open a few times.
2. Quickly change screensets a few times.
3. Open the region in the "big" sample editor (Window>Sample Editor) then switch back to the "small" one in Arrange. (Or stay in the big one if it fixed it)
4. Open a new Arrange window (Window>Arrange) and close the old Arrange window then open the sample editor in your new Arrange window.
Don't close the wacky Arrange window until you've opened a new one or Logic will think you want to quit.
No rhyme or reason as to which method may work for any of the bug variations
See if any of these help.

Wrong name in sample editor.

I have a project where I was recording test voices for a voice over that was to appear in a TV ad.
The client wanted 8 people to audition and the piece was 8 words which came out to around 3.5 seconds. I gave each person their own track and let them say the line over until they were either satisfied or fed up.
After the session I began chopping the audio up, topping and tailing each take as the client wanted mp3's of all of them for the next morning for approval. I ended up with 121 takes across the 8 tracks.
Whilst I was editing I came across a weird bug that I had never seen before or since. I double clicked on the first take to open it up in the sample editor window and did my more precise edit..... and on this went.
At some point this stopped working and when I double clicked on a take it would open a completely different take, on a completely different track. At first all i noticed was that I couldn't hear my edit (in the arrange page). So, as a test (ready to undo) I changed gain down drastically. When I did this I noticed that a different piece of audio's waveform changed (on the arrange page) which is when I checked the name and realised this wasn't the piece of audio I had double clicked on. This behaviour continued until I restarted Logic. It was ok for a an edit or two then reverted back to this behaviour.
Has anyone else experienced this bug? Like I said, it has never happened before or since and the only difference to my usual sessions was there being lots of small (3.5 second) regions.
Strange and dangerous. I have reported it via Apple feedback but just wondered if anyone had ever experienced the same thing.

Logic Pro X freezes when I zoom in sample editor

Hello again.
It seems I'm not having luck with logic pro x at all.
When I zoom in the sample editor, after a few successful zooms I get the coloured spinning wheel (of death), my computer freezes and then I have to restart.
I'm running Mac OS 10.9.4 and Logic Pro X 10.0.7 on a Macbook pro retina 2.6 GHZ 16GB Ram.
I've reported the bug but does anyone have any ideas? I basically can't edit at the moment and its driving me insane!

I have had a similar problem since updating to 10.9.4 today! Anytime I undo, Logic displays the spinning beach ball and I am forced to wait between 3 and 10 seconds. This is terrible for productivity.

Not able to increase gain of blue Apple Loop in Sample Editor, even when I bounce in place

As far as I understand things, bouncing in place creates a new audio file that you can alter at will. I have a blue Apple Loop from Logic's library that I want to permanently change the gain on. I can bounce in place but all the functions in the sample editor are greyed out, thus not allowing me to change the gain. The loop is a surround sound loop, I don't know if that matters. It's happened to me in stereo so I don't think so.

Finaly i was able to solve the problem.The other machine was having some firewall blocking the receiver.

File appears different in arrange window and sample editor

I received a few AIFF files from someone Im working with: 24 bit, 44.1, same as I use. However, although they show up fine in the sample editor, in the arrange window they look clipped, as if they've been recorded too loud. This is making them very hard to edit. I've tried refreshing the overview in the sample editor, but with no success. Has anyone got any tips?

Does the file appear distorted visually, or does it also sound distorted?
In arrange, between the *Horizontal Zoom Slider* and the *Horizontal scroll arrows* you'll see a Waveform button with which you can adjust how "fat" the waveform is displayed. Clicking toggles it between the last setting and fully zoomed out. Clickhold to let the slider pop up.

Logic express 9 can't move samples in sample editor, logic express 9 can't move samples in sample editor

New at logic nine express. Looking at the sample editor where it says I should be able to select part of a sample in the sample editor and move it . Option click does give me the correct icon but can't move the selection. On Macbookpro and logic express 9.1.5, os x 10.5.8

I think I got confused.. and that the instructions were talking about moving the selection, not the underlying wave form... I think I get it now, thanks to me for answering myself
