LPI/DPI not changing dot size in Illustrator CS3 when printing HELP!

I'm having to us my wife's laptop which is an HP running windows vista. I am using Illustrator CS3 and printing with a Ricoh Aficio AP610N Adobe PostScript3 printer. All this I could do on my laptop before it messed up and it would work fine. Now though on my wife's laptop when I go to print a spot color with any type of halftone or gradient mesh and I change the lpi/dpi in the print dialogue box down to say like 25 or 30 from 106 the dots are still printing out very very tiny. There not printing out 25 or 30 dots per inch. There still at like 106 or 225 lpi/dpi. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! Why wont they change to what I set it to??? Am i over looking something??? Again all this worked fine on my laptop I could change the lpi/dpi to 35 and they would print out big I could actually see them. And now on my wife's laptop they just keep printing out small real fine dots. The only difference between my laptop & hers is mines was a 64bit & hers is only a 32bit. Please help me someone!!!!!!!!!!!

Look for printer settings in the printer's driver dialog that overide document halftone settings. Some HP laser printers, for example, have a so-called "resoution enhancement" setting that is on by default, and that overrides the document halftone rulings. It's quite possible you have turned such a setting off on your machine, but have not done so on your wife's.

  • How to change the size of a printout when printing through email from phone to 8630?

    I have this printing fine but it's printing a 1/4 page. I'd like the picture to print full or at least halp page. I don't see where there might be a setting for this. I don't want to make a default for normal printing just eprinting.
    Hope this makes sense.

    Hi,
    If you're emailing through a photo then the default size will be 4x6 so if this is printing out an A4 sheet, that's the reason why it looks like a 1/4 page print. Unfortunately there no way to increase the size of the photo printed via e-mail as the default is set to 4x6.
    For more flexability in terms of image size etc. I'd suggest that you download the HP e-Print and use this to print from your phone. I've included setup instructions below:

  • CS6 not changing photo size?

    I have watched a few videos, on changing image size, in cs6, since when I tried it, the photo didn't change size at all. I could change it to 1 million inches tall, and it will stay the same size. I don't really know what to do. I've tried unlocking the default layer, and changing the canvas size and nothing seems to make this image change size. I want the image in the picture bigger,  am I even doing it right by going under image, and changing the image size, and hitting ok? That is all the tutorials say to do, yet nothing happens for my image.

    An image file just stores the image as arrays of pixels -- 1000 x 2000, 3000 x 4000, 5723 x 8557 or whatever.  Those pixel maps don't have any inherent "size".  The image file can also contain metadata that tells software how to interpret the pixels.  For example, the metadata could say 72 pixels per inch (ppi), 100 ppi, 360 ppi, 1000 ppi, or whatever.
    In Photoshop (and in most other pixel image editing programs), you can change the metadata to give the image a different "size" without changing the pixels at all.  For example, an image that's 1000 x 2000 pixels, at 100 ppi, will be 10" x 20".  If the ppi is changed to 1000 ppi, the same image will be 1" x 2".  And at 10 ppi, the image will be 100" x 200".  But the image pixels will be unchanged; they will just be bigger or smaller pixels.  Each one of these files will be 2 megapixels and will occupy exactly the same amount of file space (before compression, assuming 8-bit RGB, 6 MB).
    All of the foregoing is with "resample image" unchecked, which ensures no change to the pixel array data.  Now, if you want to grow (or shrink) the size of the image pixel array, you can do that in photoshop by changing the size with "resample image" checked.  This will add or subtract pixels, changing the image data.  So if you change a 1000 x 2000 image that's 100 ppi and thus 10" x 20", by changing the image size to 1" x 2", with resampling checked, the data will be shrunk to give you a 100 x 200 image.  90% of the data will disappear.  Your image will be 1/10 the size in terms of data and pre-compression file size.  If you were to resize the image back to 10" x 20" with resampling unchecked, you would still have a 100 x 200 image, which would have 10 ppi resolution --  a much crappier image.  If you were to resize the image back to 10" x 20" with resampling checked, you would get a 1000 x 2000 image with 100 ppi resolution, but it would still be a crappy image because 90% of the pixels would be newly created through interpolation, not the pixels in the original image.

    Like the title says, how do you increase the border size in Illustrator CS3? I have a .svg that I've increased the size of, but I can't figure how to get the borders (the four "L" shaped lines) to expand as well.

    I just sent you the link for the Adobe Illustraor CS3 as well, just in case. It has some of the things we talked about in there.

    Why does my image not reach the edges of the page when printed, but appears fine as pdf?

    Check a printable area of your printer.
    Make a (grey) rectangle that is larger than the paper size. Print it,
    you'll get a message that some cropping will occur, that's okay. Then take a
    ruler and measure the dimensions of the rectangle printed on the paper or
    the white borders around the printed rectangle.

    And what exactly is your problem? Other than going of on a tangent about Adobe's alleged evilness preventing you to activate whatever CS3 product, you have not provided any useful info such as what exact problem you have, what system, what product we are axctualyl talking about and so on.

  • Save of edited file does not change file size correctly

    I have QT pro 7.6 and have all the latest DirectX and drivers for my PC. I have a problem with file size reporting correctly for edited files.
    For example, I have three files: A.MOV (10mb), B.MOV (15mb), and C.MOV (25mb). If I load A and then copy B and C to the end of it, I can do a File Save As to create D.MOV as a self contained movie which shows estimated size as 50mb. And the saved file IS 50mb.
    However, If (after appending B and C to the end of A) I just do a "Save" command, A.MOV file size is not changed and still shows 10mb. The whole movie A-B-C plays correctly, but the file size is incorrect. Where is the rest of the data? I know the new A.MOV is self contained because I can delete B and C and it still plays all three segments. I'm concerned that if the file size is reported incorrectly there is the chance that the data will get lost in a future copy or move operation. Does anyone else experience this bug or is it just something in my PC?

    I stopped following this issue a few years ago, but as I recall, this is a known bug in the way PSE handles the writing of the tags to the photo files.
    I stopped following this issue because I switched to Lightroom which does not have this issue. Yes, you could do this with Exiftool and re-save the metadata from PSE, seems kind of cumbersome.
    Also, please note that if you Export the file from the PSE Organizer, as far as I know the proper tags should appear, so if you want the proper tags in your files, you could use this feature.

  • JSX Save PNG for web, quality parameter not changing file size

    Hi
    I have a script that uses this snippet of code to save png files for web. But, no matter what number I change the quality, the resulting file size and image fidelity remains the same.
    I was wondering if I can save pngs for web at smaller byte size with JSX and how to modify the output settings.
    docName = sourceDoc.name;
    NamesaveRef = new File( outputFolder + "/" + docName );
    var NewfileRef = new File( NamesaveRef )
    var options = new ExportOptionsSaveForWeb();
    options.format = SaveDocumentType.PNG;
    options.transparency = true;
    options.blur = 0.0 ;
    options.includeProfile = false ;
    options.interlaced = false ;
    options.optimized = true ;
    options.quality = 3 ;//THIS NUMBER DOES NOT CHANGE QUALITY IF CHANGED FROM 0.1 TO 100
    options.PNG8 = false ;
    sourceDoc.exportDocument(File( NamesaveRef), ExportType.SAVEFORWEB, options);
    app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
    Thanks for your help.
    Aubrey

    PNG does not have a quality setting. The quality property is used when exporting jpeg. That is why changing that property has no effect with PNG files.
    Photoshop now supports PNG compression but as far as I can tell you have to use Action Manager to save. I don't see a compression option when using saveForWeb.

  • How is the text made to not change in size on these pages?

    I am familiar with how to designate a font size that a page should first appear in a person's browser, but I had understood that the font size can always be changed in the browser by the viewer and the only way to prevent this was by making it a graphic, Flash file, etc.
    Yet on the site below (re. URL) it appears that it has been done in another way so as to make it unchangeable.
    How is this possible?
    Examples:

    How are you scaling? I can scale with no problem in IE8, FF3.5 and Opera. I simply CTRL + mousewheel to scale.
    I can scale the whole page but not the text alone, but IE8 also has a special item, the dropdown View>Text Size.
    Jacob Bugge wrote:
    This means that you may scale the whole page, but not the text alone
    That is the way it is supposed to work in modern browsers. They zoom the entire page so that layout, images and text all scale together. There is no reason why anyone should want to scale the text while maintaining a single layout scale. Such a transformation to the page would make layouts go wonky as text would outgrow the areas it was designed to fit. It is only WebKit-browsers (Safari and Google Chrome) that oddly scale layout but not text.
    If you look at this page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101114/episodes in IE8, you are able to change the size of the text alone, relative to the other elements on the page, and you are also able to change the whole page by using zoom, keeping the relative size of text and other elements (either the original relative size or another one).
    There used to be many sites where you could change the text alone, and people have been advised in this forum not to fight against that option.
    I am pleased to see that the general opinion seems to have changed.

    In an Aperture gallery, how do I change the size an image is displayed when a thumbnail is clicked. There are sliders for changing the size of the thumbnail; I can't find an adjustment anywhere for the size an image is displayed when the curved arrow in the upper left hand corner is clicked.

    --Kenoli

    Hi Kenoli,
    In an Aperture gallery, how do I change the size an image is displayed when a thumbnail is clicked.
    Do you mean "double-clicked"? In "Browser" mode, when I click on a photo, nothing changes. However, when I double-click on a photo, it switches to "Viewer" mode.
    However, I'm missing the curved arrow that you mention. I can't find any photos with a curved arrow over them in any mode. In fact, the only overlays are the badges in the lower right.
    Can you be a little more specific about exactly what mode you are in?
