Lpr printing to Print Server (D-Link DP-G321)

Am using a D-Link DP-G321 Print Server to make two printers available to home network of PCs and an iMac-10.3.9. The printers are an HP DJ 952C and Canon PIXMA iP8500. Printer Setup Utility is working fine, allowing an lpr connection to the hp printer queue, using the Apple supplied HP DJ 900 series driver. What I lack is a Canon PIXMA iP8500 driver. How is a Canon PIXMA iP8500 driver added to the list of supported printers.....

Network printing requires a CUPS driver, like the Gimp-Print driver you used for the HP. Canon doesn't provide CUPS drivers and hasn't cooperated with the open source community, so no Canon newer than 6 yr old is supported with a free CUPS driver. You can buy a CUPS driver for the Canon from www.printfab.net.
Good luck.

  • Trying to print on a DNS 323 printer server (D-Link NAS Box).

    Hi,
I have a Macbook with Snow Leopard and I am trying to print over a DNS 323 printer server (D-Link NAS Box) in a (Windows based) home network. The printer is a Canon MP190 and I have the latest driver. Whenever I try to set it up in system preferences it does recognise the printer but seems to be unable to connect to it when I try to print.
Also, every time I try to print the connection to the server is lost (as in I cannot access the files on it in the finder).
My flat mate tried printing over the server with windows 7 and it worked immediately.
Any help would be very welcome!
PS: I've tried Guten-print but the MP190 is the one printer that they don't support...

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The Canon driver for Mac OS X cannot be used when you have the printer connected to a print server other than an Airport device. For these types of connections, you need to use a CUPS based printer driver like those offered through Gutenprint or PrintFab.
Since the MP190 is not yet supported by Gutenprint, you could look at using PrintFab, however you will need to buy this software after your trial period. Or you could wait until the next version of Gutenprint is available - maybe this version will support your model.

  • Can't print from print server

I have an HP PSC 1610 all in one. To set up my printer I pluged the USB cable into the Mac and had no problems. It obviously has the drivers because it added my printer in Print & Fax and it prints with no problem. What I want to do is unplug my USB and plug it into the print server, and then tell the Mac that the printer is located at IP address. This works very well with a PC. I just can't find out where to put in the IP address. If I install an IP printer, I have to use the drivers from another printer because my PSC 1610 is not on the list of drivers. It will print, but I'm not sure what i'm sacrificing. I doesn't make sence.

    cadillacjoe,
Have you played with this network configuration guide offere by DLink?
    http://www.dlink.com/configurator/index.asp?vendorID=dlink&adLoc=rightNav&pid=6&
I ran some senarios and came up with assorted products and plug-in options.
    This site:
    http://www.compuplus.com/i-D-Link-DPR-1260-RangeBooster-Wireless-80211g-4-Port-U SB-20-Print-Server-1006974~comboid-803.html?sid=wqi0i4dj031t958
    indicated the following:
    "More Info & Product Specifications:
The Ethernet port on the Print Server can be used as a wireless bridge.
This provides wireless connectivity for any Ethernet-enabled device, such as a computer, Digital Video Recorder (DVR), or Network-Attached Storage (NAS) to the wireless network."
What flexibility do you have in where you locate the G3 and the printer. Could the D-LinkDPR-1260 be hardwired to the B&W instead of the otherway around?

  • Print to Print Server

    Hi
I am trying to add my Mac Pro to my home print server and cannot seem to get it working. I have tried every config option I could think of.
On my home network I use four other machines (PCs) to print through this print server (Air Link 101 model #apsusb2) without issue.
I have tried numerous options using the default browser and the IP set up area. Strangely, the printers seem to be discovered by Bonjour in the default view, but I cannot print to them. If I connect/add them from this view and try to print a document it fails almost immediately. I thought this would mean that there was a driver issue, but even the generic drivers do not work. My printers, while fairly old, are supported (HP LaserJet 4 Plus and HP PSC 950 xi).
My results using the IP printer settings have given me different results. I can get the printers to respond, but they only print out a few pages of garbled text and spit out a lot of blank paper.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - PLEASE. ...my bag of tricks is now empty.
    Lance

You used the wizard to set up the PCs, right?
With OS X, we just need to fill in all the right details manually to make it work. To set up for the IPP protocol, click ADD in Printer Setup, click IP printer, select IPP protocol. Fill in queue name P1 (found in the manual page 12 as "port name: P1."), then the IP address, then select model.
You can use a manufacturer's driver for postscript (4 plus), but you have to use a third-party driver for non-postscript printers (PSC).
Either Gutenprint 5.0.0 or hpijs + ESP ghostscript will support your PSC 750.

edit - maybe only hpijs + ESP ghostscript support the 750 xi.

  • New Apple Convert - Printing With Print Server

    I am having trouble printing.
I just bought my first Apple iBook G4 using Mac OSX 10.4.6. I have a Netgear Wireless Router with a Netgear PS121 Print Server plugged into one of the router ports. The print server is connected to my Brother MFC9700 Laser Printer.
I went through the process of adding the printer. I used the following settings:
    IP Printer
    Protocol: IPP
Address: The IP address of the print server
    Queue: Left blank
    Name: Laser
    Location: Left blank
Print Using: Brother MFC-9700 CUPS v1.1
When I attempt to print (from .Mac Word) the printer box shows I am connected to 192.168.0.3 (IP of the Print Server) and the activity indicator (looks like a sideways barber shop pole) is moving but nothing happens on my printer.
    Can someone please advise me?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Mark Ehrmann
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Try using the following URL instead
    192.168.0.3/P1
    The P1 is important.
    Or try this instead
    Start Printer Setup Utility
    Click Add
Hold down the option key and click More Printers
Select Advanced from the drop down menu.
    Select LPD/LPR Host or Printer
Enter this as the Device URI
    lpd://192.168.0.3/P1
    The P1 is important.
Note though that your Brother printer is not on the Netgear Compatibility List.

  • Always duplex printing when printing through cups server

I have about 6 printers which people normally accesses through a cups server running on a Linux box.
We have always printed through the cups server from the Macs we have - and this has always worked great (they get auto-detected as shared printers and so on).
But a few months ago something changed on the Macs - they can now ONLY print duplex - nomatter what i tell them to do in the print dialog. When printing first to a postscript file and then sending the postscript file to the printer (via terminal/lpr) everything gets printing correctly - but when using the printing dialog it always prints duplex.
When printing to the printers directly (many different models) everything works - but going through the cups server - only duplex.
All our Linux machines prints both duplex and simplex as they should, so the cups server isn't the problem.
Has anybody else had this problem?
      Other OS

    Armin,
You need to do the following to make the duplex printing work for postscript in Oracle Reports.
You need a printer with duplex option and an appropriate PPD file.
You also need the Unix tool sed to filter the output file.
The problem is that duplexing is enabled in the job level set up of the PostScript document but gets reset in the page set up because paper size and printer tray information is generated for every page. The workaround would be to write a script, which removes page level set-up information for the paper size and printer tray set up commands. As a side effect of this - it is no longer possible to switch the printer tray between pages.
Write a sed script file called 'duplexsed' with the following three lines. This
    /^%%BeginPageSetup/,$ {
    /^%%BeginFeature/,/^%%EndFeature/d
Copy the file to an appropriate directory, for example $ORACLE_HOME/bin.
    Set the environment variable TK_PRINT:
    TK_PRINT="sed -f $ORACLE_HOME/bin/duplexsed | lpr -l -s -P'%n' -#'%c'"
    export TK_PRINT
Note that the print command is different for the various kinds of Unix.
You may need to refer your installation guide and make changes to the lpr command
    Thanks

  • Remote Desktop local printer redirection problem - Server 2012 Foundation

    Hi,
I am trying to print from Windows Server 2012 Foundation to my local printer hosted on Windows 7.
When I enable local resources in the RDP client, I can see my printers on the server like redirected. All seems like no problem occured. But only print does not work. ;-)
I can see the document name in the queue with Error status.
I tried set up GP with disabling Easy print, the drivers are identical on both machines, event logs are clear.
The server is freshly installed, running only File server role. No Domain controller role is set. No Terminal Service is set (i think in Foundation is it not possible), only allowed RDP.
RDP client is the newest. I have not any problem to print from other servers (WS2003, WS2008R2) using this printer. Everytime is the printer automatically redirected to TS*** port and works.
I spent few hours searching solution with no effect.
    Any idea? Many thanks!

    Hi,
Did you find any error message during this issue?
Please check you have enabled necessary port for printer redirection on server side. You can check “Do not allow client print redirection” is disable under GPO setting. Also the user must have enough permission to print the document. Please check below link

  • Server created print ques printing directly to the printer

I'm trying to enforce quotas as well as push out a global set of printers (i.e. not setup locally) I can do this no problem, but my managed macs always print directly to the printer, not via my server.
I'm installing the printers locally on my server (printing directly to the I.P of the printer, then the corresponding ques appear automatically in the print service under server admin. I assumed that print jobs would be automatically parsed via the print service ques, and thus be able to enforce quotas.

I'm attempting to setup the very same thing. I haven't gotten to try pushing the print ques to the managed clients via wgm yet, as I can't even seem to get the quota system working at all.
I can get the que setup on the server, then add the printer to the client. When i pause the que on the server, the client print jobs are being held correctly, but there is no evidence that the quota system is even starting up or functioning correctly.
I can find alot of people complaining about the quota system being broken in 10.3 and 10.4, but I can't find anyone talking about 10.5's printer quota system at all.

  • Printing problems on Server 2008R2 - Server 2012R2

    Hi,
We have troubles with Firefox and printing pages.
First i want to say i have already tried all this steps:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-printing-problems-firefox
    Let me explain my problem:
In a TerminalServer Session i want to print a website from firefox.
Sending the print job in Firefox works without error reports, but then the printer "Data" lamp is blinking and the printer Says proccessing.
First i thought the printer has been broken but then i tried this on 6 other printers in our company.
    Printers: HP, Sharp, Brother, Develop.
Every Printer has the same problem. No one could print anything anymore. I had to turn off the printers to get them working again.
Resetting the about:config -> print_printers was not working, after this the printer was printing one Job then the problem was there again.
I also have deleted the profile in AppData, but this has not resolved the problem.
So can you please tell me what the problem is?

    Hi,
The Dump File has abaout 290mb, what should i do with that file?
The Machines are running on 2 different Hyper-V 2012R2 Hosts,(1 HP Server and 1 Supermicro Server, Intel Xeon 2620V2) the latest Integration Services Drivers on the guest machines are up to date.
    This is the printing Problem:
Firefox sends the Webpage to the Printer. After a short time the printing Job is cleared from the list of actual Jobs.
The Printer Says now he got a Job an says "Processing...", well.. this happens by every printer in our Company.
Only turning off the Printer and on again makes the Printer working again to print anything from other programs.
At the moment where someone sends a print Job from Firefox (Problem exists only on TerminalServers 2008, 2008R2, 2012, 2012R2.) to any Printer, the Printer must be restarted to work again.
    Printing from Server 2003R2 works.

  • How to install P1102w Printer on win server 2003 without connecting the printer

    Hi guys,
i have to insatall p1102w printer on my server 2003  to print from my client pc witch the p1002w locally connected when i use remote desktop connection.
    does anyone knows how to.

    Hi,
The P1102w is an Host-Based printer, any host-based printer does not support Citrix / Terminal Services / RDP connection.
You may find that listed on page of the following guide:
    http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c03635702/c03635702.pdf
You may try installing the drivers on the client itself and check if that may work..

  • How can I list print queues per server via power shell script

    Hello,
we are managing many print servers on our domain environment,  now for auditing purpose I need to report print queues per server,  and it seems bit difficult task doing it via GUI in print management view, could someone help me with script which
gets me the no. of print queues on each print server.
Also I need to list all the print drivers installed on each print servers.
I tried to list the drivers " Get-WmiObject win32_printerDriver -filter " but this will get me complete information about the driver, I need to list only the driver name (-filter) either _RELPATH or _PATH
    dibu

You can also use WMI like this:
    (get-WmiObject win32_printer -computer ws702).count
I don't understand what you mean by list only.  Just select what you need.
    See: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/scriptcenter/dd742419
That will give you some basic background on how to use PowerShell to get the properties of objects.

  • Need to install Canon Network Printer drivers on server...?

I am about to add a Canon PIXMA iP5200R network printer to my intranet via its Ethernet connection. I have configured and tested printing sucessfully from my PowerBook G4 directly to the printer via my intranet after installing the necessary drivers and software from Canon.
Now I will like to use Mac OS X Server running on my Xserve G5 to manage the printer, and I do have some questions pertaining to this:
First question: since I don't think Canon supplies any PPD file for most of its printers, do I need to install the iP5200R drivers and Canon IJ Network Utility on the Xserve?
Second question: is there a Command Line Interface for Printer Setup Utility, or their relevant commands in CUPS, or do I need to use ARD to get the GUI of Printer Setup Utility on my Xserve?
Third question: after using the GUI or CLI of Printer Setup Utility to setup the printer on the server side, will this appear in WGM when I bring up the window to add a new Print Queue in Print service?
Fourth question: according to the Apple Print Service Documentation, if I share the Print Queue via IPP (I will only be turning this protocol on) and I have installed the Canon drivers and software on all the Mac (client) computers on the intranet, then I can use specific features of the Canon printer (such as direct CD/DVD Labeling), assuming if the Mac computers select this Print Queue via their Printer Setup Utility?
Fifth question: this Canon iP5200R printer has the ability to allow only certain computers to send print jobs to the printer via a table of either MAC ID or IP addresses, so if I enable this feature on the printer and limit to print jobs coming from the server only, I should be able to prevent user from bypassing the server to print, assuming I am also locking down the selection of printers in Print Setup using WGM?
    Thank you for reading.
