LPX and Rewire

I can not get LPX to rewire with Reason. Worked fine with LP9. Any suggestions?

I have just been dealing with the same issue. Reason 7.0.1 ReWires to Logic 9 but not Logic Pro X. I went into Preferences for LPX and went to Audio and found the ReWire Behavior and set it to Live Mode. I Clicked apply and it still didn't work. I ended up quiting and relaunching Logic Pro X and it started working.

I have been using LPX for a few weeks now and I have run into a large number of issues, some of which are completely game-breaking. I was shocked to see that there is no support contact at Apple for Logic Pro- I was simply redirected here.
My issues include-
Logic's visual meters lagging while 3rd party AUs cope just fine
Several severe instances of automation triggering late, particularly and somewhat cripplingly involving the gain plugin (and yes I do have sample accurate automation on the correct setting)
Inconsistent behaviour playing back samples in library (samples will sometimes not play at all and I have to press keyboard shortcut again, or sometimes will play after a 1-2 second delay)
Windows simply disappear after changing desktop 'spaces' and must be maximised by right-clicking icon in dock
Plugin windows are sometimes unresponsive and must be closed and reopened

It seems this very experienced user has done some thorough testing and discovered massive problems with Logic's automation and plugin delay compensation. Not good.
I'm sure I need not go into detail about how difficult these issues are to work with collectively. I would greatly appreciate some time from an Apple employee regarding these matters.

Logic Express 7.2.1 and Rewire problemo!

got no rewire? does not exist in track drop down menu, so tried create track and its on list but greyed out and not selectable. only place i've found it is on powerbook template and it s not working. my drum tech tried to run it with reason 2 but no joy. the rewire indicator on top left does not illuminate when reason is started after logic.
whats going on?why no rewire on drop down menu?
is reason 2 intel mac and logic 7.2.1 compatible?

I think your problem is you're trying to run Reason 2
on an Intel mac. You need at least version 3.0.5 to
do this.

Logic X and Rewire

Rewire does not currently work for me under Logic X (but work for Logic 9). So what is the version of rewire that’s required to get this to work. I have 1.8.2, but think there are 2.x versions out there.
Further, should I delete the current version under the Library/ Propellerhead folder and then do a new install of Logic to put fresh updated version back. ?

A) Yes, its enabled.
B) not sure how you install it correctly, as i presume a fresh install of Logic will write it to the correct Destination. My question is about what version you have in your computer, then i would know if i have on older version for some reason.
C) yes, i am aware of this, both Ableton, reaper, melodyne is 64 bit

Dual 2.3 G5, good enough for LP8 and rewire with Abe Live ?

I have a Dual 2.3 G5 which i run with Logic Pro 7 and many plug-ins. There are only a few times when i freeze tracks and knock on wood my system runs really well.
However i wanna upgrade to Logic Pro 8 and Live 7 and don't want to upgrade my machine until i can afford a Mac Pro 8 Core.
Will my machine be able to comfortably run Log and Live rewired ?
Or should i upgrade to an intel iMac for the time being, will that b considerably faster than my G5 ?

just make sure you have enough ram.
I'm using Reason and Live 6 with no problems.
If it's a big orch thing then I have to freeze tracks. Otherwise I'm using a 256k buffer all the time for tracking and mixing. If I start having trouble, then I'll bump up the buffer when mixing.
It's hard to believe these machines are long in the tooth, but they are.
I'm on the fence about getting a new machine, since everything is working so well now......but ymmv.
Logic 8 is tons better than Logic 7.

Logic Pro 8, Reason, and Rewire

I have been trying to get redrum to record into Logic. I have it all set up correctly because I can get other instruments in Reason to work and I can get the drums to work if I manually do it with a keyboard, but I cannot get the sequencer to record.
I have been trying forever to try and figure out this problem.
I have a track in the mixer and in the actual Logic recording section. The redrum via rewire is ran through channels 3/4 and output 1/2. In the mixer, you can see the levels jumping and hear it when I run the sequence in Reason, but when I hit record, nothing records in Logic.
I feel silly because I feel like I'm only missing one small step, but I have no idea what it is and I can't get any of my drum tracks recorded. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you trying to record the audio output of a redrum sequence, or are you trying to record the midi notes of a redrum?
For audio, just bounce your drum loop in Reason and load into Logic as an AIFF, or run Reason via rewire, and program your midi notes for redrum through Logic, or set midi channel changes to strat and stop/ select which patter via CCs and record in Logic.
I don't think you can record the midi notes that Redrum makes with it's sequencer into Logic.
Here's a simple setup to get redrum working with Logic.
Open Logic, then open Reason
create an external midi track, in the library select Reason
In Logic, create a bus, and select the input to be Reason rewire output R/L
In Reason, make your redrum with the patch you want.
Back in Logic, select the track, and in library select the redrum.
Now notes recorded into that channel will trigger the notes of the redrum, but the audio will come into the bus you made.

I use reason and l.e. by rewire with a control surface. The routing are ok and I can listen and play my devices from reason to Logic. With NN 19 sampler I play, listen, and record with logic.
But with the D Rex loop player in reason after lounding a loop I can ear the sound but I Can't registered it in logic ?
Anybody have an idea ?

You should export the *.rx2 file as a midi file (this can be done from Recycle or Reason)
Then import that midi file into Logic on a Rewire track. Now send that midi info to a Rewire track (that is sent to Dr.Rex).
Note: rx2 files have midi info and slices. You load the slices into the Dr.Rex player. Now you need to trigger them in the "correct" order if you want to hear the original rhythm/groove of the initial loop. Also, you can create your own rhythms from the slices by creating a new midi pattern.
If you just want the original loop, just import the *.rx2 file into Logic's arrange window. (this works in Logic Pro, I am not sure about express)

Reason and rewire connection

Santa having kindly left reason 4 in my stocking this chrissie I am endeavouring to connect it up to logic express! I would like to be able to record reasons synthsetc. in logic and use reasons different EQ's, phase, compressors etc on stuff i have created in logic and this I presume is done by using rewire? Have followed the instructions on reasons web site for logic and can hear reason synths etc through logic but cannot record reasons synthsetc or send logic sound through reason yet! What does one do next please?

I don't know Reason 4 but the basic features are the same of the previous version so......
Reason (via Rewire) can receive MIDI and can send AUDIO.
So it's not possible to send audio tracks from Logic to Reason.
The things you can do are:
1. send audio from Reason to Logic to elaborate with Logic efxs;
2. send MIDI from Logic to Reason to use Logic editors;
3. bounce in Logic with, Reason audio tracks enabled, to obtain a complete mix of Logic and Reason tracks.

E-MU and Rewire

Hi people!
Well I am about to buy the E-MU 1820 sound card in order to write music, and I was just wondering if this particular sound card has a multiple client M MIDI driver. I use Cubase SX 3, + Reason 3.0 and Live 5 in rewire mode. Does its drivers support the use of these three programms simutaneously in rewire?+ What about the latency in such case?
Can the E-MU 1616 respond in these demands?

Intel Mac Logic 7.2 and Rewire/Reason?

I was unable to get my copy of Logic 7.2 (Intel) to work with Reason 3.0 (PPC) rewire. I'm running this on my Macbook Pro.
Anyone have any idea how to get these two apps to rewire with each other?

Rewire and Video

I am trying to score and spot SFX to video using Reason, a Rewire app, as my sound source. Video plays fine with no rewire but plays only 5 seconds with rewire activated. Without taking the time to go into the 1 million variables of my system config, is there anyone else having a similar problem? FWIW, Windows process manager shows minimal CPU load so that does not seem to be it...

Thanks for your reply Mark Yes, I think there are a few kinks to work out between Audition and Rewire. It takes literally 5 minutes to open a Rewire connection. I thought the program had crashed but it just takes forever.Also the launch is problematic- it is not automatic, and even using the "Launch" button doesn't work- I must start the app separately. That's an ok workaround but... Then the video freeze and your latency issues...Markers are well thought out but... it's back to protools for this project at least!

Can't import loops into LPX that import fine into Logic 9

Hi all,
I'm new to posting to the forum but have learned a great deal from browsing it over the last few years. I've got a question that I've scanned the forum for but can't seem to find an answer to. My problem is this: I've got loops that will import fine into the loop library in Logic 9 but absolutely will not show up in Logic Pro X (10.0.4). I'm running OSX 10.6.8 on a late 2013 MBP (15", 16GB RAM, 512SSD).
These are loop collections that I've purchased from a couple of different reputable companies. Some are in .wav format, others .aiff. I've tried reindexing the loop library, editing the loops individually and as a group in ALU to make sure that they're listed as loops and have the proper collection and naming parameters (all do), etc... Nothing seems to be working. I just drag and drop the folder in LP9 and it works great, but when I try to do the same in LPX, nothing happens.
I'm running my loops through an external harddrive (with an alias on a local folder pointing to the external hard drive), but even when I try to store loops locally it doesn't make a difference.
Does anyone have any ideas/tips? Has anyone else heard of anything like this? For what it's worth, I have just shy of 40,000 loops in LPX (and nearly 50,000 in LP9)... not sure if there's a limit, but it wouldn't make sense that a previous version would allow more loops.

Logic Pro X is not compatible with 10.6.8 so how did you download/install it?
LPX requires a minimum of 10.8.4 to download/install correctly.....
This may be the cause of your issue......

Strange behaviour with ActiveX invoke node and Excel

I want to send a table of numbers from LV50.1f to Excel97. After getting a
reg to Excel8.Application I retrieve the Workbooks property, Invoke Item to
select a certain Workbook reference, retrieve the Worksheets collection
reference, Invoke Item and then get a reference to WORKBOOKS again.
Strangely, there is an example code from the NI web site that does exactly
the same, but in the last step a variant is returned in stead of a
reference, which is converted using Variant to G to a Worksheet reference.
when I copied that last invoke node to my VI I also had a variant returned,
so on one diagram I had to invoke nodes connected to the same sources, one
returning a ref, the other returning a variant!

nnecting the sources to my Invoke node and rewiring gave no change.
Also type casting the ref to workbooks to a worksheets ref, didn't work - I
get errors in the following property node that retrieves a Range - which
exists in Worksheet, but not in Workbooks.
Appearantly, LV gets the returned type mixed up sometimes, and there is no
way to fix it other then copying a invoke node from another diagram?
Finally I got it working though, but this behaviour puzzles me. Contrary to
the example from NI, I now managed to send a table (2d array of strings) in
one call to Excel (don;t need to loop over cells or columns).

I used to do the same using DDE but ranges are different for each language
version of Excel (i.e. R1C1 for English and R1K1 for Dutch), so my VI's need
to know the language of Excel. Also with NT and Win98, getting a DDE
connection often hangs LV. But a big progress has been made - now I need
different VI's for each version of Excel!!!

IMovie 10.0.5 crashes into millions of colored pixels when I add v/o narrative using Pages to read script from and using a USB mic attached to my iMac. I am running Mavericks OS X10.9.4

Hi, I have been editing a project for a week and over the past 2 days iMovie 10.0.5 has crashed into millions of colored pixels about 6 times. I am working on a 27" iMac running OS X 10.9.4 with 6GB of Ram, plenty of space on start up disc (217 GB's) The crash seems to coincide with any effort to use an external USB mic plugged in to record a narrative. I can record the voice over but a few minutes later I get some awful audio scrubbing sounds and then it pixelates. Why is this happening and how can I work around this to record a voiceover please? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm nervous to continue if my work is going to ultimately be lost. My project is currently about seventeen mins and includes, video clips from 2 different cameras (both Canon) a music track from iTunes and some still images (jpegs.)

If nothing else, this huge list of updates and fixes, shows clearly that the Logic Dev team is working hard on fixing and improving LPX to a major degree.... and from the list of fixes done.. show they do read the bug reports submitted!
As an aside....
I recall how all the 'naysayers' prior to LPX (and in some cases, since...) were proclaiming how Logic was dead, the team was being disbanded, we won't see any further development, the Dev team doesn't listen or care... and so on....... I wonder where those people are now?

I have cameras that run off of OS 10.9.5. so need to keep that OS. Is there a way I can just buy the version I used in the 30 day trial (10.1.4)? It runs fine on my current OS.

I'm on latest version of OS X, FCPX, LPX and FCPXML export ingests into LPX just fine.
