LR 1.1  Goodwill lost is hard to regain - What motivates Adobe

Thanks to Adobe for trying to address some of the many criticisms of its LR software. However, the experience of using LR has been an eye opener in regards to what apparently motivates Adobe. Prior to using LR, I viewed Adobe at the high end of corporate America. A company made of hard working software engineers who made programs, though not perfect, that were in most respects solid and dependable for professional photographers and graphic artists. Now after using LR for several months, I see Adobe as a company whose top management is primarily focused on the company short-term profitability and stock price. How else can it be explained, what would allow a program with so many major shortcomings / poorly thought out and executed features to be released with such fanfare and hype? Some one must have been pushing the software developers hard during the development phase to cut corners, save cash, and ultimately get the product in stores so that cash would flow in.
The divergence between the slick advertising and endorsements by industry pundits with the reality of the actual software program was as stark as I have ever seen. We live in a world where spin doctors abound and highly paid advertising departments make everything from a floor mop to a frozen desert seem like a gift from heaven. Its unfortunate to see Adobe on this same level.
Adobe lost a lot of goodwill among loyal customers over the LR fiasco. Coming out relatively quickly with a major upgrade, which begins to address some of the flaws in the original release, is an important step in regaining that goodwill. However, as any good business person knows, once customer goodwill is lost it is difficult to regain. The amount of energy (money) required to delight a customer is paltry in comparison to what is required to regain customer goodwill. If Adobe would have had a long term view of its business and placed absolute priority on customer satisfaction, it would not be in this predicament. Unfortunately, like so many publicly traded companies, the pressure of shareholders has apparently made Adobe subjugate this long term view in favor of short term profitability.

Your post is an excellent example of a broad over-reaching statement
that points fingers yet does not provide any substance to it's
complaints. Lots of big words like divergence and pundits, but no actual
statements of problems.
What are you specifically complaining about? What do you see that makes
you make such a broad statement.
I WAS one of the main detractors of LR 1.0 in this forum. Many people
cursed me out and wished me to go away. Well, for what I have seen so
far, LR1.1 is likely one of the best photo tools that I have ever used,
and the majority of the V1 shortcomings have been addressed. There is
still work to do, and SOME people have experienced transition problems,
but as far as I am concerned, the V1.1 patches work great (although they
took too long to arrive) and the new features are excellent and more
worthy of a V1.5 than a mere V1.1 release.
So what are you specifically whining about?

I lost my hard drive and want to get my music back on my new computer. How can I get songs from my ipod to my computer? I am afraid to sync it and losing what is on my ipod. Any help would be appreciated.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • My computer crashed and I lost my hard drive. I have downloaded the itunes to my new pc.  How do I sync my Iphone without loosing everything??

My computer crashed and I lost my hard drive.  I have downloaded the Itunes on my new computer.   I am afraid to sync my I phone as I don't want to loose everything on it and my I Tunes is blank - not what I had previously. ????  Can someone advise?

Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings:  Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar. Then, use iTunes File menu > Transfer Purchases from XXX's iPhone.  This will transfer your purchased items.
For your other stuff you will need a 3rd party utility.  Find  discussion of them here
Unlike music and video purchases, iTunes Store Apps can be downloaded again without charge.  This explains how: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

I lost my hard drive contents and itunes wasn't backed up. Can I recover the library from my iPad?

You won't be able to recover you entire library from your iPad but you can recover some of its contents by transferring the purchases back to iTunes. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 This will not transfer anything you did not purchase from iTunes, for example music or video files you had stored on the HD and you put into iTunes. Without a backup that information is gone. One very important thing to keep in mind. Once you sync the iPad to the new iTunes it will remove all the afore mentioned music or video files from the iPad. Do not sync with iTunes if you want to keep those files. Hope that helps.

I have lost my Hard Drive icon on my desktop. How do I get it back.

Quick thing to try: from the Finder, select the View menu and then select "Clean Up" in case it has wandered somewhere almost off the desktop.  Also, if it is "hiding" behind something, it will be revealed.

  • I lost my Hard disk and had to replace it, how can I get another copy of lion OS, P.S. I bought my macbook pro with preinstalled Lion OS

I lost my Hard disk and had to replace it with a new one, how can I get another copy of lion OS, as the guy at the serive center installed 10.6 for me.
P.S. I bought my macbook pro with preinstalled Lion OS

If you have a way to wipe 10.6.8 off, you can then reboot your machine (with no OS) and since your system came preinstalled with Lion, Internet Recovery should occur which will boot to Apple's servers into a Recovery HD for you to redownload and install Lion.
To be safe I would first make a clone of the current installation using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!. This way you have a way to recover.

  • Lost my ability to control what appears on the menu bar

When I upgraded from 10.8 to 10.8.2, I lost my ability to control what appears in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
For example, Time Machine no longer shows there.  When I open the system preferences and check the box that says "Show Time Machine in menu bar", the check mark appears briefly, then disappears.  It will disappear as many times as I check it.  I tried reinstalling Mountain Lion.  When system 10.8 was installed, the menu bar worked.  When I repeated the upgrade to 10.8.2, it quit working again.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.....
    John

Only the song/album/artist info is displayed on the "now playing" screen.
As for lyrics, play any song to which you've added lyrics. Then press the centre button repeatedly until the lyrics appear.

  • I have an old Mac Tower.  I need to move data from the unit to an external hard drive. What kind of hard drive do I purchase.  There is not a lot of data to be transferred.

I have an old Mac Tower.  I need to move data from the unit to an external hard drive.  What kind of of hard drive must I purchase so that it works with the Tower?  There is not a lot to transfer.

    MG,
What we might need to do is to change the question.  What computer do you plan to use the data on in the future?  For example, if you have a newer tower, just move the hard drive to the new tower.  If you want to use the data, what about an ethernet LAN to get the data over?  If you want to archive the data, how do you store the second drive?  What are your plans for the first drive?  If the new software will not recognize the old file type, the data must be exported.  Just getting files to another hard drive will not finish your journey.
As Allan said, knowing the exact model and year of your tower is important.  My suggestion is to find a user group near you.  Please post back with more information, including the name of a large city near you.
For example, our user group just experimented with a 1983 Apple IIc that predates the Mac.  It started right up, read files from 1984  and saved them from a 5.25" floppy to a 3.5" floppy.  That 3.5 floppy will go into a platinum G3 which will read PRODOS files using Apple File Exchange.  That G3, with a USB card, will allow saving the files to a USB flash drive.  But, somewhere along the way, some software has to read the file and convert it to data that is useable by current software.

Use the Organizer backup & restore method, starting the restore from the TLY file. Probably best to use a custom location as the XP file structure will be different. See this link for further help:
