LR 1.4.1 Freezes on Image Download

Windows XP, SP 2.
I believe I have the latest version. Pretty sure I downloaded at beginning of this Month (May 2008).
LR is freezing (not showing any progress) on image selection for download from CF cards.
After the Count dialog, nothing else happens, never get to the import dialog data entry screen and thumbnails showing what is selected.
HALP.
Then if I DL the files to my hard drive first, independent of LR, the Import selection and dialog seems to work. If I let LR automatically load the import dialog 'when a card is inserted' it seems to work most of the time, but does NOT OFFER the ability to MOVE the files.
Details:
Very frequently with my Nikon D70 (6 mpxl files, NEF, 5 MB files, Lexar 133X 1 and 2GB cards), I get random times where you select files for download (I can shoot in the low to high hundreds of files, all .NEF), it goes to the dialog that says 'count', the dialog disappers, no hourglass or other progress available (also a Lightroom shortcoming), and then nothing happens for minutes on end. I can check the Task Manager and many times it will say Running, and then the rest of the times it will say Not Responding. When it is running I have had a complete meal and then checked on it and it is still 'Running' and there is no progress showing.
Now I have the Nikon D300 (12 mpxl files, NEF(12 bit, 15-17 MB files, raw as well as 14 bit raw), Lexar 300X 4GB HDMA cards). The import does not work most of the time. I have also rebooted many times to start over.

Yes, I considered that as a change to my workflow, downloading from card to hard drive. Review in my FastStone viewer to elim blur/out of focus, and maybe some duplicate poses, expressions, and angles I don't want. Then, Import to LR. Many times you are not sure if a picture viewed that way is fixable. If I download to LR, then I can test it. Also, LR's import in place does not allow for a backup. And, as you mention, importing in place also does not allow for moving.

There is no hourglass unless and until I click on the screen, then I get an hourglass, which eventually goes away. I have left the room and did many other things for 5-10-15 minutes, but upon returning, the screen is as I left it; not changing to the main import dialog.

If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:

I can not download Adobe Reader on my Mac: I can do it on my iMac, and have done it fore 10 years now, but Adobe reader download freeze before downloading the file

Is it the Download assistant that is freezing or is it the web browser that freezes?

Firefox freezes trying to download or save files, Import/Export bookmarks, clicking (Tools) Options (was: Fire Fox crashes in Windows safe mode and in Firefox Safe mode)

Firefox 6.0.2
Firefox crashes every time I do any of the following. Then I have to force quit Fire fox.
If i click a download link on a web page, Firefox freezes the instant I click the link
...but Firefox does not freeze if I click a web link on a web page or page navigation link.
If i go to the Menu bar > Tools > Options, Firefox freezes the instant I select Options from the Tools menu.
...but Firefox does not freeze if select any other item from the Tools menu.
If I go to the Menu bar > File, Firefox instantly freezes the instant I select either "Save Page as..." or "Open file..."
...but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other option from the File menu such as: New Tab, New Window, Send Link, page Setup, Print, Exit etc
If I go the Menu Bar > Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup, Firefox instantly freezes the second I select "Import" or "Export"
... but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other command in the Bookmarks sub menus, nor does it freeze if I back out of the menu entirely.
Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
...so I have isolated the problem to a limited number of commands in Firefox that cause Firefox to freeze... described above. Everything else in Firefox works fine.
HERE IS A SUMMARY OF WHAT CAUSES THE FREEZING:
• Clicking a download link on a webpage
• Going to the Menu Bar > File and selecting "save as" or "Open File"
• Going to the Menu bar > Tools and selecting Options.
• Going to Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup and selecting either "Import" or "Export"
• Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
Everything else in Firefox works fine. I went through every menu command and checked for freezes. Only the commands I mentioned above cause the freezing.
I tried the following to try to fix it:
• Reset my modem and router (Problem still exists)
• Uninstalled FF. Deleted folders, profiles (Downloads.sqlite), Registry entries. Reinstalled. (Problem still exists)
• Restarted FF in Firefox safe mode. (Problem still exists)
• Restarted in Windows Safe mode and then started FF in Firefox safe mode (Problem still exists)
• Disabled Window firewall. Disabled ZoneAlarm firewall, Shutdown ZoneAlarm firewall. Set Internel Options to default settings. (Problem still exists)
• I reset the config option: browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone to false
What does work?
• Firefox does not crash when I click a link an go a website, navigate a page, use a menu item command.
• Firefox works fine on my other computer.
• Internet Explorer works fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
• My other applications work fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
I want to add that, I just overcame the XP Recovery Virus by following a post that suggested running the following software to fix the virus. Everything seems back to normal except Firefox.
The software I ran to fix the problem are listed below:
• malwarebytes
• superantispyware
• ccleaner
• combofix.
• smart defrag
• then load a good anti-virus. (I ran Zone Alarm virus scan)

Did you ever fix the problem where Firefox freezes or hangs, when clicking a download link or using (File menu) "save as" or "open file"? Or when going to the Firefox (Tools) menu and clicking Options ? Or trying to Import or Export bookmarks?

How do I disable automatic image downloads if there is no option to turn that function on/off in Options/Control???

I want to turn off the automatic image download function, and DO NOT have that option on the Option/Content tab. I have looked everywhere I can think of for an option to stop web pages from downloading a ton of stuff I don't want to see, and I cannot find a way to do it anywhere. I am VERY frustrated at this point, because all the help info I found online from other sources say to uncheck the Automatic Image Download box on the Content Tab in the Options dialog box.
That option isn't there... The only things available on that tab are "Block Pop-ups," "Fonts & Colors," and "Language." That's it. I have automatic updates enabled for Firefox, and it is up to date.
Please help me solve this very annoying problem. Thank you.

Problem with AppleTV (freezes the image on some movies)

Hi! I'm having some problems with my new appletv. I have some movies who freezes the image when I was watching it. Always stop the image on the same frame but when I check it on my imac with itunes I can see it without problems. Someone knows where is the problem?

Hi, thanks for your reply. It happens in a boxing combat fight and in a Dexter episode. I convert it to .m4v (appletv format) and I can see it perfect in itunes on my imac but on my appletv it freezes always in the same frame. I copy the movie to itunes and after I sync and copy it to my appletv. Is weird cause I saw the Dexter episode 1 and 3 but the 2 freezes on 20min.

The projector may actually be processing a 3 digit number in numerical sequence. Have you tried your export/collection in order sequence starting with 101? Assuming you have fewer than 899 images you should be OK. (I had to fiddle with export sequence for a display frame which used the file date and time for sequence!)

Column View won't display some images downloaded by browser

I have used the "Preview" in Column View to display images for some time and some images downloaded to folders will never display. The wheel just spins in the display area and CMD-i doesn't display the image either. If I open the image in the Preview application it displays! There is no detectable difference in the files that do and don't display in Col. View. I can get any image to show up by opening a graphic application and doing a "Save As" to reprocess the image and replace the balky one. But, this is not right that I should have to do this. I cannot determine whether a downloded image is going to have a problem or not as some from the same websites are OK sometimes and some are not. I had the problem with OS 10.2.8 too. Changing from iCab to Safari does not help.

ACK!!!! Cancel all that because it happens using Firefox too. I have NO IDEA what in the world is happening to my system that would cause web pages to load incompletely.

Trying to perform a code upgrade on our WLC but receive this error -

I don't see any of the AP's in the download state either viewing through the GUI or CLI.
Has anyone run into this before ? Any suggestions ?

Issue has been reported on some 7.4 and 7.6 codes where the controller will prevent rebooting
thinking one (some) of the AP's is in downloading state even when there are no AP's that show stuck in this process.
To fix this, I had to do a forced reboot on the controller using the command “reset system forced”.
Our controllers are in HA mode so I than forced a fail-over back to the primary.
Once completed I was able to upgrade the controllers.

Whenever i try to download OS X Mavericks, it will download to 995.6MB then will freeze and not download any further.

Restarted computer and still nothing. I don't know what is happening or if it is a problem my side or on the apple side of things. I am running quite a powerful computer so i dont think it is the computer that is having problems either.

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of what you are describing. If your whole system is hanging or freezing completely, and it is occuring during the download and not during the install portion, you may find the troublehsooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

Too many concurrent AP image downloads, AP will not Join

peeps,
wonder if any of you have seen this before, trying to join an 1142 on a WLC_SRE version 7.4.
the AP can ping the controller and vice versa. In the controllers GUI: Monitor>Statisticc>AP join, I can find the mac of the AP that I am trying to get joined.
the details of this mac show:

Trying to join 1142N LAPs.    when getting the boot up process on the LAP, it endlessly loops in finding a valid WLC, although I have primed them to go to 192.168.7.1.
The WLC log shows:

One of the following steps should help.
1. System Preferences > Other/ Flash Player > Advanced > Delete All
     Press the "Delete All" button
     Install Adobe Flash Player.

    Quit Safari.
    Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
2. Enable Plug-ins
    Safari > Preferences > Security
    Web Content: > "Enable Plug-ins".
       or
    Internet Plug-ins > "Allow all other plug-ins
3. Check whether you are currently in YouTube HTML 5 trial.
     http://www.youtube.com/html5
    At the bottom left of the page uncheck the box beside
   "You are currently in the HTML5 trial".
4. Reset Safari.
    Click Safari in the menu bar.
    From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
    Uncheck the boxes beside all items.
    Check the box beside "Remove all website data".
    Click "Reset".
5. Turn off Extensions, if any.
    Safari > Preferences > Extensions
     Now try YouTube.
