LR-2.1-RC1 - Photoshop Interop - Fixed.....errrr Not Fixed

Just downloaded the LR2.1 release candidate 1.
Because I am constantly having problems opening pictures in Photoshop CS3.
An according to the release notes
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Lightroom_2.1#Photoshop_Interop_-_Fixed
it should have been fixed.
Anyways I sat down now and analyzed the problem a little and found out that I could open all of my "old" pictures with Photoshop CS3 while my "new" pictures had problem.
The problem being photoshop CS3 is started up but no image appears in it to edit.
The diffrence between my "old" and "new" pictures is the keywording, i.e. I only used english letters when keywording my "old" pictures while for the "new" pictures I use all kinds of letters and especially icelandic letters.
I tested this by removing all keywords with Icelandic letters on an image that I had problems with opening in PSCS3 from LR. After removing the keywords with Icelandic letters in them I could open the pictures normally.
Anyways I hope this finds it's way to the lightroom developers.
rg
kd

Imported files are Nikon NEF.
The icelandic characters are e.g. áéýúíóþæðöÁÉÝÚÍÓÞÆÐÖ
But the keywords I played with contained one or more of þðáó
If I remove keywords with these characters I can open files normally in PS CS3.
When I say "open normally" I mean all the default "Edit In" actions, i.e.
Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS3
Open as Smart Object in Photoshop
Merge to Panorama in Photoshop
Merge to HDR in Photoshop
Open as layers in Photoshop.
I have mostly tested the first and last option.
I can always use my own preset (Lightroom->Preferences->External Editing->Additional External Editor) that I defined pointing to CS3 using psd file format, 16 bits/pixel and 300 DPI. I.e. it seems to be unaffected by this keyword "thingy".
Hardware Is Apple Mac Intel running Leopard 10.5.5.

  • Imac flickering fixed or not fixed?  Should I wait it out or exchange?

Well, I'm on my 4th Imac i7. I've had it all. Noisy fans, hot machines, dead pixels on 3 of the 4 machines and a dented lower left. My new machine was the first with no dead pixels and a cool running machine but it was flickering like crazy when I first turned it on. I updated the firmware and it seemed to fix it but it started flickering a day later. I was told to turn the computer off for 30 seconds and I did. It seemed to help but my wife said it was flickering on her the other night. I haven't seen any flickering myself. I would HATE to get another imac with a dead pixel. It drives you crazy. I don't know if I should hope for another software fix or what? I could change the screen and cable but I hate the idea of having a repaired new machine. Anyones flickering go away? I wish I knew what triggered it. I would take an occasional flicker over a dead pixel as sad as that seems. it would be killer to get both but I don't think the odds are in my favor.

With as many issues as you have had it almost seems like they may be caused by the environment. While I know each individual problem you have experienced has been documented by other users it just seems so unusual that you will would experience all of them on and on 4 different machines. What I am thinking is what you are plugging the machines into? Are using an older power strip, a battery backup system or plugging directly into the wall? Another item might be the wiring at your home, if it's an older home is it possible your wiring is causing the issues or it could be a combination of all these factors.
I'm throwing out some other variables rather than the machines themselves. While it's clear a dent wouldn't be caused by power, I can see where flickering might be, as well as pixels dying (unless they were DOA), and noisy fans. Just food for thought.

  • Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

I'm performing a normal "Save", not "Save As". Work flow I'm using is as follows:  Select photo in Lightroom 5.7 >" Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014 > (after working on photo is PS) > Save > close PS. Photo returns to Lightroom 5.7 in a new folder rather than next to the original. Prior to purchasing the monthly plan and upgrading to PS CC 2014, I performed this same work flow using Lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop CS6 without any issues.
Just for fun... I attempted to move the edited file back into the original folder. I received a prompt that said the file already existed in the original folder, however I can't see it except the new folder that LR created. I tried several different sort orders, etc without any success.
*** Follow up: Was unable to resolve the issue using Photoshop CC 2014. Uninstalled PS CC 2014 and went back to using Photoshop CS6. Return trips from LR 5.7 to Photoshop is now performing as it should: returning edited photo back to the original folder in LR 5 and placing next to the original image.
Should anyone have a suggestion on getting Photoshop CC 2014 to do the same, I would love to be educated.
    Thanks for the help, dj_paige.

  • I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It quits when the Twain portion of the program starts loading. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer will work with Photoshop??

I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It closes every time it gets to the point where it is loading the Twain portion. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer and Photoshop will work together? Thanks for any help I can get!

    You're welcome.
But, no, don't look to  Epson for fixes to their  driver in newer versions, and Adobe has deprecated the TWAIN plug-in.  Hoping for a solution there is futile.  That has not happened and it's never going to happen.  The consensus is that it's pretty foolish to tie up Photoshop to scan.  Honestly.
Any improvement in the behavior of newer versions of the Epson drivers in that regard would be pure coincidence.
You need to understand that you never, ever scan "within" Photoshop, as Photoshop has no scanning capabilities whatsoever.  When you use the Import > Twain plug-in all you are doing is blocking Photoshop while you call up the stand-alone Epson scanning software.  If you think about it, its most inefficient.
VueScan has a pretty powerful scanning plug-in that can be called from the Impost menu—if you insist.  VueScan is not free, but it's a pretty good value, IMO.
As for the Epson CD printing software, I have no clue.  Sorry.

  • Cannot open Photoshop: get error: To open "Adobe Photoshop CS5.app," you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?  However installing Java SE 6 runtime does not fix nor does installing Oracle Java SE 7. Adobe says Apple is problem.

Searching the internet for solutions to this and some discussion with Adobe.
Adobe say Photoshop does not use java so it should not be asking for a java runtime.
The question is how can I stop Photoshop asking to install java since Photoshop does not need or use Java to run?
Found various links that might be helpful:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/58203/mountain-lion-with-java -7-only/58841#58841,

    Adobe's Installing Java SE 6

However as I have Oracle Java SE 7 installed and SE 6  is deprecated and no longer supported for security reasons.
Apple is actually responsible for Java 6's security. They take Oracle's code and do whatever is needed to make it compatible with Apple's OS. Java 6 is still getting security updates from Apple. Versions 6 and 7 can also exist on the same drive. They won't interfere with each other.
Also I am assured in no uncertain terms by Chris Cox over at Adobe that Photoshop CS 5 does not use java at all and that the java error message  and so called dependency is just an error on the part of Apple.
I did find a topic where Chris stated that for CS6, which I know is true. I've installed CS6 (and CC) on a newly formatted drive in Mountain Lion, and neither made any mention of requiring Java. Could have sworn CS5.5 and earlier did you Java for a few functions. Though I likely only assumed that since that version and earlier always causes a prompt to install Java if it isn't already on the drive.
So is there any way to run Photoshop with SE 7 only installed or even better with no java installed?
It doesn't really matter much if Java is installed. Java 6 should put an app in the Utilities folder by the name of Java Preferences. Open that, and you can completely disable it by undoing the check boxes.
Perhaps there is a way to make OS X stop thinking it needs java SE 6 to run Photoshop CS 5.
Apple would have to make a change to the OS itself. It's a not a user accessible setting.

  • ACR 7.1 RC Issue Not Fixed in ACR 7.1

The issue I identified in ACR 7.1RC is not fixed in the production release of ACR 7.1.  Maybe I did not explain this in enough detail, it's very easy to miss.
    1. Select a RAW file that was previously adjusted using PV2010.  When you open the file with ACR 7.1 it will open with PV2010 since the xmp file was saved with that process version.
    2. Click on the "!" next to the image and it changes to PV2012 with suggested slider settings.  Adjust one of the sliders in the Basic Panel - this is very important becasue if you don't adjust a slider the issue does not show up.
    3.  With the Basic Panel still selected, click on the three dashes to the right of the Basic Panel to get the pop down menu and select "Image Settings".  The image changes back to PV2010 with settings that are saved in the XMP file.  Now click on the three dashed again to get the pop down menu and "Custom Settings" is checked, but the image is displaying PV2010, not PV2012 like it should if "Custom Settings" is checked.  You just lost your PV2012 settings. ACR 7.0 does not have this issue.
    4. If in #3 above you select another panel before you click "Image Setting"  the first time you can switch between PV2010 and PV2012 by clicking "Image Settings" for PV2010 and "Custom Settings" for PV2012.   After you do this first in a panel other than the Basic Panel for the first time you can then do it in the Basic Panel without the problem occuring.
I discovered this while converting images that were adjusted using PV2010 to PV2012 and like to compare the two Process Versions.  I did not have any problems with ACR 7.0, but when I installed ACR 7.1RC the issue occured.  I was hoping it would be resolved in the Production Release of ACR 7.1, but it's still there.
I am using Photoshop CS6 on a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit computer, don't know if this same issue exists in Lightroom.

None of the issues reported on this forum have been fixed in Camera Raw 7.1, near as I can see.
The Camera Raw 7.1 software was built on May 15, but Adobe appears to ignore beta feedback unless it's a real show-stopper.  I can only imagine the definition of "show-stopper" must include users' systems actually catching fire or something.
Camera Raw 7.1 puts columnar color artifacts like this into images, for example:
Compare the above to the same conversion done with Camera Raw 7.0:
Plus Adobe has removed several color-fringing reduction features without providing suitable substitutes.
I recommend eveyone avoid upgrading to this release.

  • Photoshop CS-6 does not open images from Lightroom 5

I do have Photoshop CS-6 and Lightroom 5.  Nearly all images were created in a Windows 7 (64 bit) environment.  I have moved platforms to MAC. I have moved all images and the Catalog. I have changed platform to MAC. I am now using MAC OS-X (10.9.1).
I am able to see all images in Lightroom, I am able to modify all images in Lightroom. I can export the images to Jpeg (for example) from Lightroom.  I do have a warining at several images in Lightroom = "metadates have been changed - would you like to overwrite data or import ?"
First time I have tried to open an Image from Lightroom (hand over) Photoshop opens, but does not show any picture and no error message. But when I then look to recently opened files, the image is in the list. When I do click on this, Photoshop shows and error message: "the datamodule can not handle the file format" (which is either RAW or jpeg).
Another expirience is, when I try to open directly from Photoshop any other image, Photoshop ignores the XMP and opens the original file without any modification.

    derMueller wrote:

That's normal if the raw files were originally edited in Lightroom. Lightroom stores all edits in the catalog, not the xmp sidecar. You can set Lightroom to write to xmp as well, but that slows it down a little and so it's off by default. The Lightroom shortcut ctrl/cmd+S will also save to xmp.
I do have a warining at several images in Lightroom = "metadates have been changed - would you like to overwrite data or import ?"
That's related to the above, and also normal if you go the other way - edit in ACR and then move to Lightroom. It'll then be in xmp, but not the Lightroom catalog.
As for the missing on-screen image, that's a common video driver bug (although I suppose other causes are possible). For Windows you can download updated drivers directly from the manufacturer's website, but that's not possible with Mac. You'll have to wait for Apple to fix it.

  • Bridge update does not fix caching problems.

    Dear Adobe,
The 5.0.1.23 update for Bridge CS6 does NOT fix the problem of constantly re-caching layered TIF files.
I originaly reported the problem here on May 16, 2012.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1007560
At that time I also submitted a bug report via photoshop.com, and received an e-mail response from Adobe support confirming the problem had been replicated in their lab and promising a fix in the next update.
I've since tracked several other reports of this bug and related cache problems.
I assume that, at best, we will have to wait another 6 months or more for the next update. How can I assure this bug will be addressed?

Thank you for this bit of information. Maybe it means I can stop the deactivations/uninstall/reinstall/reactivate cycle to try yet another solution. And hopefully, this will stop the re-caching problem with other than tif files.
