LR 2.5 and file association

Hi,
wondering what type of file associations is changed during LR 2.5 installation if any.
I know Adobe products takes it w/o having an option to change it later.
sorry if my qus. is too stupid, just using XNVIEW and im not sure about migrating to LR yet and i dont like to hack my registry
each time.
thnx in advance

As you mention registry I assume you are using Windows (not being a Mac user), if so, file associations do not need any reference to the registry.  Simple open a Windows Explorer window and select Tools| Folder Options| File Types and adjust anything you want to from there.
In answer to your main point I have installed Lightroom about 8 times and it has never changed any associations as far as I can tell.

  • Problems with Folder view settings and file association in Windows 8.1

    My Windows 8.1 64 bit started forgetting the view settings from a folder.So if I go in a folder and I set it to List-View for example,whenever
    I close that folder and I reopen it the view is set automatically to Details view.And this applies to every folder in my computer except Desktop.It drives me crazy,especially in my pictures folders.
    Also with this problem another one came.I can't set a program to open some files,so the file associations for some files is broken.For example
    i can't set qTorrent to open torrent files.It just won't open them and the files apear as white documents just like I hadn't had a Torrent program installed already.I find it weird that both problems appeared together.
    I previously had to reinstall windows on my machine,because of this problems.It worked normal at the begging,but today these problems appeared
    again.
    I tried scanning SFC
    Scan with no result.
    I hope I will get a fix here.
    Thanks.
    Update:I also just discovered that Metro apps are not working...what the heck its wrong with my windows.

    Hey thanks for the reply ,but I got a fix for everything.Apparently the problem is in the registry.
    So If the problem began recently, you can try this to fix it :
    Press Windows Key + R to show the Run box, type RSTRUI and press enter.
    Choose a recent date and time from before the problem beginning (such as the day before yesterday) and click Next.
    The system will restore registry settings from that day, and restart.
    If you do this however,all the programs you had installed after the restore point date will
    be DELETED   (same with any settings changes made before that date),so be sure to backup things.Hope this will help someone someday. .

  • [SOLVED] LXQt: Black Background and File Associations Ingored

    Hi,
    I switched from Razor-qt 0.5 to LXQt 0.7 (both from AUR) recently, and I encountered two problems:
    1. After login, there is only a black background and no right-click context menu works on the desktop (see linked screenshot below).
    2. "Removable media/devices manager" opens mounted filesystems with filesight instead of dolphin.
    http://i62.tinypic.com/abt56s.png
    Both issues worked fine in Razor-qt 0.5. I guess the black background problem relates to the lxqt-session-git package. LXQt 0.7 ships an own file associations dialog. I changed the default application of MIME type "directory" and "mount point" to dolphin, but obviously it is ignored. Usually, I manage MIME types with KDE's setting control panel. There, MIME types "directory" and "mount point" are associated with dolphin.
    Maybe, anybody has a clue how to narrow down the problem.
    Thanks.

    Thanks, Chazza.
    Package pcmanfm-qt-git solved the issue with the black background.
    However, "Device manager" still ignores the MIME type assocations, even when creating a section for removed associations in ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list (like described in the wiki):
    [Removed Associations]
    inode/directory=filelight.desktop
    inode/mount-point=filelight.desktop
    I will investigate this problem further when I have enough time (maybe LXQt uses another MIME type for mounted devices). Nevertheless, I mark this thread as SOLVED.

  • Tar files and file associations

    What is the default tar file association in OS X? How do I go about restoring the default file associations in OS X?
    Thank you.

    What is the default tar file association in OS X?
    The Archive Utility.
    How do I go about restoring the default file associations in OS X?
    Select an item, choose Get Info from the File menu, change the application under Open With, click on Change All, and confirm this action. The setting is stored in an item's metadata and in a file in your home folder for global associations.

  • Droplet and file association

    Hi
    I have made the AppleScript below which is packed into droplet (app program package) with the Script Editor program (version 2.2).
    If I drop a .class file into it's icon, it works and the shell script functionality occur and TextMate is opened with the decompiled java code.
    If I, from the "get info" ctrl-click menu, change the file association for a .class file, a double click on that .class file it work too.
    If i try to change the file association for all .class files, by clicking "Change all..." the file association jump back to the previous selection.
    Why is that? Do I have to use something else the "on open" in the script?
    Or manual change the "Info.plist", if so to what?
    Hope someone can help me solve this problem.
    /Peter
    AppelScript:
    on open some_items
    repeat with this_item in some_items
    try
    do shell script "/Users/peter/bin/jadmate " & quoted form of the POSIX path of this_item
    end try
    end repeat
    end open
    To be complete, here is the shell script:

    /opt/jad/mx158/jad -e java -d /Users/peter/temp/jad $1

  • Multiple LabView versions and file associations

    I know this is a Windows problem more than a LabView problem but...
    I have LV 8.21, 8.6, and 2009 installed and seemingly Lv 8.6 is the only version that is associated with .vi .lvprog, and the other LV files.
    Really makes it a P.I.A. when doubble clicking on a LV 2009 project file and LV 8.6 starts.
    I have tried changing the associations to the labview.exe in the Lv 2009 directory but it does not change the Windows file associations.
    Has anyone else delt with this and come up with a soultion?

    Here is my solution. (And, incidentally, the one point I DRIVE home to my co-wirers at work!)
    Never ever ever open a LabVIEW object from Windows explorer!  Always open them from the IDE.
    Sea-Story time
    Once upon a time I migrated from LabVIEW 5.1 to 6.i followed almost immidiatly by 7.0 (finally a stable VISA API) and in 3 months we jumped to 7.1.  4 versions in 6-9 months with projects in each.  With 8 developers and 15 test stations all "synchronized" to a single SCC database.  We learned some painful lessons about version control.  After a few weeks of Windows choosing randomly what version of LabVIEW to launch each vi in we had pretty thoroughly corrupted the libraries on every machine.  Reuse Vic's from 5.1 recompiled to 7.0, vi's in 7.1 cross linked to sub vi's in the 6.i area etc.... NIGHTMARE!  We actually SHUT DOWN the lab for about 10 days while we reconstructed ALL of our code and re-assembled the SCC database from the ground up.
    At the risk of repeating myself- in a multiple version environment Never ever ever open a LabVIEW object from Windows explorer!  Always open them from the IDE.
    In a single version environment - Never ever ever open a LabVIEW object from Windows explorer!  Always open them from the IDE. it will teach you bad habits the will hurt later.

  • Getting stylesheets to work in header.php and files associated with it

    Let's say I created a header.php file in my includes folder.  And I include it in my index.php file in the site root directory.
    Then in the header.php file, I have a link to the style sheet.
    The issue I've always found is that you can't get the header.php file to apply the stylesheet.
    I can get it to work using global links, however I don't want to do that as I'll have to undo them before I upload the site.  (And I forget....)
    So anyways, I came up with this code today in an attempt to overcome this.  Here is my header file so far:
    "; } else           echo ""; ?>
    So here is what it is doing:
    1. It is creating a variable called $directory which is equal to the current directory.
    2. Then it is creating another variable called $currentFolder which is equal to whether or not the variable $directory contains the word "includes".
    3. Then it says if $currentFolder is NOT false then it has the location of the stylesheet in relation to the header.php file.
    4. Else - if it IS false then the stylesheet is located in a location in relation to files in my root directory.
    This works perfectly fine....in Live view.  Both the header.php and index.php will format the header in live view.  Neither though will format it in Design view.  Which sucks cause I was pretty happy that I came up with this code on my own.
    The reason it isn't working in Design View - I realize now - is because Dreamweaver won't process that script in Design View.
    Does anyone know of a way to get this script to run in Design View?  Or maybe some suggestions on editing this code to get it to work in Design View?
    Thanks!

    >The issue I've always found is that you can't get the header.php file to apply the stylesheet.
    Right. That's because, and it seems you understand this already, the css file relative location is different from the point of view of the header file, and the parent file. Since the header file is included in the parent at the server, the client then sees the css file in the wrong location.
    The solution is to use Design time style sheets. This will apply the css to the page only in design time - it won't actually insert the css file into the code. So, insert the css reference into the header file from the point of view of the parent - index.html. Then add a design time style sheet. That should work.

  • Thunderbird: clickable links & file associations?

    Hi,
    I have Arch installed with the XFCE desktop environment, plus a handful of apps. I'm using Thunderbird for email and Firefox for web browsing. (OK, not very original, I admit )
    1) Firefox and Thunderbird are set as default apps for browsing and mail within XFCE. Now how can I make links in mails clickable, e. g. make them open in Firefox? So far, I have to copy them, open Firefox and paste them into the URL bar.
    2) Is there a way to define various MIME types and file associations in Thunderbird? For example, when someone sends me a PDF, open it automatically with epdfview, or a PPS with OpenOffice.org Impress, etcetera... ? (That is, without first doing "Save as..." in Thunderbird)
    Any suggestions?

    Me to.
    To the first issue however. This is how I have done it.
    In my thunderbird prefs.js
    user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http", "<path to>thunderbird-link.sh");
    user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https", "<path to>thunderbird-link.sh");
    My thunderbird-link.sh
    #!/bin/bash
    export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME="/usr/bin/firefox"
    url="$1"
    if [ "x$url" = "x" ]; then
    url="about:blank"
    fi
    if $MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME -remote "openURL($url)"; then
    exit 0
    fi
    exec $MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME "$url"
    You have to make thunderbird-link.sh executable. Do
    # chmod a+x thunderbird-link.sh
    This will open Firefox if it isn't open already. If it is open, the link will open in a new tab.
    The mailto in Firefox is handled like this.
    My prefs.js
    user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.mailto", "<path to>firefox-mailto.sh");
    My firefox-mailto.sh
    #!/bin/bash
    # This script allows FireFox to send mailto: links
    # to Thunderbird
    THUNDERBIRD="/usr/bin/thunderbird"
    #echo "Firefox mailto: $*" >> $HOME/log.txt
    MAILTO_URL="$1"
    #Strip off the protocol as this confuses Thunderbird
    MAIL_DATA=`echo "$MAILTO_URL" | /bin/sed -s 's/^mailto://'`
    if $THUNDERBIRD 'ping()' ; then
    $THUNDERBIRD -remote "mailto( $MAIL_DATA )"
    else
    #The mailto needs to be in the format mailto:[email protected]
    #eg not mailto://[email protected]
    $THUNDERBIRD -compose "$MAILTO_URL"
    fi
    exit 0
    Make it executable. Opens Thunderbird if it isn't already running.

  • Workspace folders and files

    Hi experts,
    Is there a query or api for listing the folders, sub-folders and files associated to each workspace in the collab. suite.
    Please advise.

    We want to have a report of contents in each workspace in a hierarchical order. For example:
    ws1-> folder1 -> sub-folder 1--> file A, file B, fileC
    ws1-> folder2 -> sub-folder 2--> file D, file E
    ws2-> folder1 -> sub-folder 1--> sub-folder 11 ->file X,. file Y
    ws2-> folder2 -> sub-folder 2--> sub-folder 12 ->file Z
    ws2-> folder3 -> sub-folder 3--> file W, file T
    Of course, multiple levels of sub-folders may exist in a hierarchy.

  • GNOME and KDE file associations

    Hi,
    I like to use KDE and GNOME, alternating between them. Sounds crazy, but I like both. Please, let's avoid the "GNOME vs. KDE" discussion, right?
    My problem is: I like to use different file associations when I'm using GNOME or KDE. For example, I'd like to associate text files with gedit in GNOME and with Kate in KDE. But if I associate text files to gedit in GNOME, when I run KDE and open a text file it opens gedit. If I associate them with Kate in KDE, when I'm using GNOME it'll use Kate as its text editor.
    Some time ago I could have both desktop environments without this mess. Can I have this behaviour back?

    Yeah, I got tired of Evolution not knowing about opening *.docs in openoffice.  After several hours of research, the key is the /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache,  /opt/gnome/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache, and the MimeType fields in the *.desktop files.  The mimeinfo.cache in /usr was empty and the /opt one had gthumb and other apps but no OO:
    [MIME Cache]
    application/x-gnome-stones=gnome-stones.desktop
    image/jpeg=gthumb.desktop
    application/postscript=ggv.desktop
    ...snip...
    That's a lot of blather to say that the fix for Evolution/OpenOffice was to add the proper MimeType entry to /usr/share/applications/ooo645writer.desktop:
    MimeType=application/vnd.ms-word;application/msword
    and then run "update-desktop-database".  Problem solved.
    Another problem is that within Evolution it says an attached doc is a "application/msword" and not a "Microsoft Word Document".  Unfortunately this is because freedesktop.org decided to use application/vnd.ms-word instead of application/msword like the rest of the world.  If you check the vnd.ms-word entry in /usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml it defines an alias msword but the new mime system doesn't appear to recognize aliases yet.  The solution I used was to rename the entry to msword.  Another possible solution might be to remove the msword alias from the vnd.ms-word entry and create a new msword entry based on the vnd.ms-word one.  Then run "update-mime-database /usr/share/mime".  Hope that made sense.
    I think the defaults.list is part of the previous GNOME MIME setup cause I don't have one and I'm not experiencing any problems.  For other apps check for the associations in the mimeinfo.cache's and if missing add the MimeType's to the app's *.desktop.

  • Quicktime refuses to release file type and icon associations

    Has anyone else had this problem and how do I fix it?
    Changing the preferences doesn't fix it. File type associations in windows doesn't fix it. Help?!

    Ok, I kept getting nagged to upgrade QuickTime. So I did. Now QuickTime 7.4.1 has hijacked ALL my Windows image file associations, and won't give any of them back, no matter how many times I change QT’s settings. Why does QT even have a picture viewer? Who would use it? Or pay for it, as QT constantly nags you to do? Windows already has picture viewers, and there are thousands more free ones on the Internet. And why does Apple think that QuickTime is better equipped to handle my PhotoShop files, rather than my PhotoShop software?
    I'm really peeved! If I uninstall QuickTime, my web browsers generate errors. But if I don't uninstall, I can't use my other programs! So at this point, the product borders on being MALWARE. Why would Apple do this??? Will the next QT version also include MS Office, email, database, and text file association-hogging viewers too, so that my pain is complete?

  • CS5 & CS6 (Photoshop and Bridge) file association fix ?

    My Win7 SP1 system is now runnging smoothly with Bridge CS5 properly invoking Photoshop PS5 and Bridge CS6 invoking Photoshop PS6.  Simply changing the File type associations in Bridge CS5 did not seem to work.  This was "solved" at 3AM last night while sipping a glass of Scotch - therefore it would be interesting if others would confirm my sleepy discovery:
    1. CS6 assigns all standard graphics files to be associated with CS6 and thus causes Bridge CS5 to invoke Photoshop PS6.  The objective is to have Bridge CS5 invoke PS5 at least for chosen file types.  Ensure neither CS5 nor CS6 is invoked.
    2. In the Win7 Start Menu search box, type "file association".
    3. Select the "Change the file type associated with a file extension".  This starts a window titled "Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program".
    4. All of the graphic files are assocated with CS6.   For those files you want to associate with Photoshop PS 5, click on the choses file extension (e.g. .cr2, .nef, .psd, etc) and click on the "Change Program" to associate the extension to Adobe Photoshop CS5.  (note.  this step seems to be a necessary operation since, when I simply modified the Bridge 5 file type associations, Bridge 5 did not honour the change).
    5. Start Bridge CS5. Choose "Edit -> Preferences -> File Type Associations".
    6. For each file type you wish opened in CS5, change the association from CS6: choose the "Browse" option and locate the CS5 version of Photoshop.exe".  This is probably in Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)/Photoshop.exe.  I happen to choose .cr2, nef, and .psd.  Click on OK to complete the association.
    At this point, you can invoke Bridge 5 and it will properly invoke PS 5.  If you invoke Bridge 6, it will invoke PS6.  If you use file manager to invoke one of your selected file extension types, it will start Bridge PS 5. Other graphic files will start PS 6.
    If you wish, you can go back and reassociate the chosen types to CS 6 - but your Bridge 5 will still invoke PS5 for your chosen extensions since the Bridge-assigned file associations takes priority over the windows default programme.

    Great summary!  I will amend the association FAQ

  • Problem in file association and main-class in JWS

    Hello , all
    I have a problem in JWS with file association and main-class. I have a java application that has two entry classes, one is appmain.class that is required to launch from web, and the other is player.class that is required to launch when user double-click the .abc extension file.
    In JWS 5.0+, there is a association element in JNLP syntax that can be used to make the file association with .abc extension. But how can I declare the main-class in JNLP file?
    If I declare the application-desc element as <application-desc main-class="player">, the player.class will be launched from web. But if I declare it as <application-desc main-class="appmain">, the .abc extension wil be associated to the appmain.class.
    Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thank you for your kindly help.

    One way is to define a third main that refers
    to the other two, as appropriate. E.G. if the
    web based main does not include -open as
    its arguments, it is easy.class WebStartSpringboard {
      /** Call web based main unless args include -open. */
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        if (args[0].equals("-open") ) {
          OpenFileBasedClass.main(args);
        } else {
          WebBasedClass.main(args);
    }Other measures might be taken for a situation
    where the web based version does include a
    -open argument.
