LR 2.5 prints too dark with Snow Leopard

Hello all,
I hope someone can help me. I am going really nuts with my printing. Every print I do at the moment is really dark! It doesn't matter if I turn on / off color management or not. If I use profiles or not. If I export from LR and use the preview app and print from there the prints are ok.....
I use:
LR 2.5
Snow Leopard 10.6.1
Actual Epson Driver (R800) from the Epson US website
Epson Profile from the Epson US website
Original Ink, Original paper
Monitor calibrated with Spyder 2 Pro
Has anyone any idea? What really wonders me it that even if I use in LR steh print setting "managed by printer" I get exactly the same result as if I use managed by LR and use a profile.......
Please help
Thank you in advance.
Andreas

To Jao:
You won't get the very best output, but it might be worthwhile trying - certainly cheaper than buying a whole new printer.
Now that was a good call. It worked quite - as in English quite, rather than American quite - well setting the driver to expect an AdobeRGB image. Much better than any other combination that I have tried. Does it solve the problem? Probably not; and reading your post I don't believe it was meant to. As said earlier I am now on course for a replacement printer. My only hurdle is uncertainty as to which will work in a SL/Adobe future. The lunacy of all this is that I could go out today and buy - direct from Epson, or any of their UK dealers - a natural replacement for my R800. Its called the R800, and if you click on the Epson UK inkjet printers page, there it is at £243.70.
With that silly situation in mind, how can one today choose any new A4/A3 printer and be reasonably confident it will support custom profile printing ex-CS4 & Lr in the foreseeable future?

  • Prints too dark since Snow Leopard was installed in my iMac

I have an iMac that is about six years old.  It had Tiger and since I got Snow Leopard installed, the prints are not looking right.  They certainly don't match what I see on the screen.  I have an Epson R1900 and I was very pleased with it and my iMac before.  I have Adobe Lightroom 1.4 and just got Lightroom 3.  I have CS 3, but just downloaded the trial version of CS5 extended.  I have tried upgrading the printer with Epson Common Updater for the R1900.  That file is Epson 14284.dmg.  It came out on 6//21/11.  I also tried one that came out 10/28/09, which is 13523.dmg.  In both cases I get a message saying system/library/extensions apple mobile device.kext installed improperly and can't be used.  The version of my printer is 8.61. The OS version is 10.6.8.
I will call Epson tomorrow.  I tried calling Apple twice now and both techs couldn't help.

I had done exactly that.  I have an Eye-One Display 2 and used it to determine what the brightness was.  I had set it to 116.  It was set at its brightest setting when I got it back from QuadStar, the local Apple repair shop.  The latest prints are closer to what I had with Tiger OS.  I still don't know why I got the Apple Mobile Device messages when I was downloading the two Epson updated drivers and the Apple Software Update.  I'm thinking they were meaningless.  My ITunes works OK.  ??????
    Thanks Hal for your help.

  • Epson R2880 printer driver problems with Snow Leopard

I’m running 10.6.4 on a new Mac mini and I’m trying to print to a new Epson R2880. If I let the system choose the printer driver in the print and fax utility, I get a sort of generic print dialogue box without many options, but it prints. If I go into the print and fax utility and manually choose the driver, I get a different print dialog box with all the appropriate print options. I checked and it matches the screen shots for this printer that are posted on the Epson site, so I feel sure this the correct driver. However, when I try to print with this driver, I get this error message. Error:/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents /MacOS/rastertoescpll failed.
This seems to be a common problem with Snow Leopard and the R2880 Epson printers, and it seems that most people are able to solve it by deleting the printer from the printer queue and resetting the printer queue. But that hasn’t solved my problem.
    Here’s what I’ve done:
Manually deleted the Epson folder from the hard drive and trashed it, repaired disk permissions, uninstalled the Epson driver, updated software, downloaded and installed the Apple/Epson driver, deleted the printer from the print queue, and reset the printer queue. I’ve done all of these things several times over. And still I get the same error message every time I try to print from the driver with the print options. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a fix?

Some of the previous users had success when they restarted after deleting the /Library/Printers/EPSON and /Library/Caches/Epson folders. You might also try deleting the /Library/Cache folder. There is a solution posted from someone at Epson:

    Substitute 2880 for RX580:
Make sure that you have completely removed the Stylus Photo RX580 driver, then install the new driver from System Update:
    1. Power off the printer
    2. Open System Pref. and Print/Fax
    3. Highlight the RX580 printer
    4. Click on the ""-"" sign
    5. Close Print and Fax
    6. Open your Mac's Hard Drive
    7. Open the Library Folder
    8. Open Printer and delete the EPSON Folder
    9. Open the PPDs folder find the Epson Stylus Photo RX580.gz and delete the file
    10. Close the PPD and the Printer folder
->11. In the Library folder, open the Caches Folder
    ->12. Delete the Epson folder
    ->13. Restart the Mac
    14. Power on the printer
    15. Click on the Apple Icon and System Update
    16. Follow the directions to install the new driver
    Hope this helps.

  • Prints too dark with Photoshop Elements 10

My photos are printing out much darker than what is on the monitor display.  I have calibrated the monitor and changed the color profile, color management & color space numerous times and they I cannot see any difference in the prints. I've changed the printer settings, still too dark.  I have edited the photos and brightened them, still much darker than on the display.  I'm using Photoshop Elements 10 with a new monitor and computer.  My old computer and Adobe Photoshop CS2 program did not have this problem.  Any suggestions?

Check to be sure that color is not managed both by PSE and by the printer. In editor, go to Edit>color settings and check "always manage color for computer screens." Then, go to File>print>more options (lower left in the dialog)>Color Management tab>Color handling: "Printer Manages Color."
Are drivers and firmware for your printer up to date?
Do pictures print well via other applications with your equipment?
Have you printed a file,  processed in Elements, at a kiosk, such as at CVS? How does that look?
I assume that you are printing from Editor, not from Organizer. It is said that the print engines are not the same.

  • Printing too dark with CS4 and HP printer

I'm using a Macbook and an HP Photosmart C6180.
Any photo I edit in Photoshop CS4 prints much darker than it appears on screen, regardless of what application I actually print from.
On the other hand, photos I edit in a different application (e.g., Photoshop Elements 4.0), print about as bright as they appear on screen.
I've tried adjusting the screen brightness and this does not help.
Anyone have suggestions to resolve this?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Brad

I just want to jump on board here.  I'm having the same problem with an Epson 2400.  All was well two days ago with CS3, but CS4 has changed the picture, so to speak.

  • Trying to get lexmark Z708 printer to work with Snow Leopard

I've just set up a friend's new Mac, using 10.6.4; he's moved from Windows with his Lexmark X708 printer. I can't find any Z708 printing drivers that will work with SnowL - not on the installation 'extras' on the dvd, nor on apple or lexmark's pages (the 708 driver for 10.4 on lexmark's site doesn't work). is there a workaround or do i have to persuade him to fork out yet more for a new printer?

There is a "Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard > Printing, faxing and scanning forum you just missed it.

  • Need printer driver (HP printer) to work with Snow Leopard:

My Imac came with Tiger, and I recently had it upgraged (by Apple professionals) to Snow Leopard, but I need a printer driver for my HP Business Inkjet 1200. I got no help from HP. Any suggestions? (And I don't speak "computer-ese" so please spell it out in easy steps for this dinosaur. Thanks!)

probably my misuse of 'best' - by 'best' I meant one that actually operates properly with full functionality.
I have been using HP for a while and always find that there is one little bit of the app that does not work with Mac and in the past HP have always said 'oh well we don't design for Mac'.
What I want to know is, what works properly ?

  • Samsung CLP-315 printer not happy with Snow Leopard

I got a Samsung CLP-315 color laser printer about 6 months ago. I had it connected to an iMac G5 (PPC) running Tiger. It worked wonderfully. Well, the iMac died so I got a new Mac Mini (Intel running Snow Leopard). Well, now things are not working very well. When I try to print, sometime it prints, other times I need to power cycle the printer, then when I try to print it works. Printing remotely from my other iMac used to work flawlessly, now it is interemittent. For example, when I try to print a PDF file remotely it won't print. I've very dissapointed that moving to the newest OS causes problems.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I think I may have fixed the problem. I haven't done extensive testing, but...
I turned off the printer. I used the install CD that came with the printer. I performed an Uninstall operation. Then I opened System Preferences -> Pring & Fax, and deleted the printer. Then I turned on the printer and Snow Leopard asked me if I wanted to install the driver. I said yes and it went looking. When it completed the printer showed up in my print preferences. This time the picture of the printer showed up in the preferences. Before that it was a generic looking printer. Maybe these drivers are newer/better. We'll see.

  • How to get existing (Dlink) printer servers working with Snow Leopard

I have a new macbook. We have two existing Dlink 1260 print servers serving 3 Windows machines. Both connect to our network via CAT5, we have a Buffalo router and cable modem service. One print server has a HP inkjet ands the other has a Canon inkjet printer. I know the IP addresses (static) and TCP ports of the two print servers. Apple's support people told me they arent trained to help me on print servers.
How does one install these print servers in Snow Leopard 10.6?? I am out of ideas other than Geek Squad :>(

I would imagine you need to connect via IP, LPD, put the IP address of the server in for Address and the Port Name in for the Queue.
You will need Postscript drivers for the printers, based on info on the D-Link site.

  • Old Appletalk Printer Stopped Working With Snow Leopard

My old Apple 630 Pro Printer, which is connected to one of the Ethernet ports of my Time Capsule station, used to work perfectly through Appletalk... till I installed Snow Leopard. No more Appletalk in Snow Leopard, the printer is gone.
If I could find the IP address of the printer, I could probably add it this way. Does somebody know how to find the IP address of anything attached to the Station through Ethernet?
I know that this one is not easy, and thanks in advance for any info!

  • Epson R1800 prints too dark with PS CS5

I have been using Photoshop since version 2.5 updating each version.
I have a trial version of PS CS5 12.0.1.  I have been trying to print from it but have been unable to get anything other than dark prints.  I have carefully checked everything, used lots of ink and paper (Epson Ultra Premium Luster).
I have downloaded and reinstalled the Epson driver (6.12) several times.  Deleting the printer and reinstating it again after the new driver is downloaded.  I'm on a Mac Pro 3GHZ, 10GB running 10.6.4.
I have re-calibrated my monitor using a Spyder3 and using the Apple calibration.  Both yield a very similar calibration.
I have carefully gone over and tried the solutions (2 and 3) offerred at:   http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/834/cpsid_83497.html
I have tested the printer using other software and the prints come out fine.
I have searched everywhere for a solution.  Is it possible to use 10.6.4 and CS5 and an R1800 to get decent prints?  CS4 worked just fine.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I have the R800 and was only able to get satisfactory results was to let the printer manage the colors as opposed to the "correct" way of PS doing it. It's a workaround at best. Luckily I have an R2400 here also. I've relegated the R800 to non-critical work.
    See here:

There doesn't appear to be a real epson driver.

  • Printing Password NO LONGER WORKS with Snow Leopard!

Ive searched this forum and most people have the opposite problem I do. They want to disable password requests when printing, but I want them!
With Leopard, I was able to set up our networked color printer on every mac and students who logged in with their Active Directory accounts would then try to print but fail because they weren't part of the user group that were allowed to print to our color printer. When the password screen showed up, all I had to do was type in my account name and password, and the student's work would print. This was perfect for our lab set-up so we could supervise printing.
However, with Snow Leopard, this feature no longer works. The password box pops up but it doesnt matter what name/password is inputted, anything will print. By anyone. Yikes. My IT is not too happy and Im trying to find a way to fix this.
I saw Kiraly's tip on using Server Admin tools but it didnt work for us. Error 14071 something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be falling back to Kerberos authentication, where passwords aren't needed every time. I'd suggest telling your IT people to disable kerberos on the Windows Server. If Windows is allowing users to access services with the wrong username and password, then that bug needs to be sent to Windows as a security vulnerability.
Otherwise, if they narrow it down to a problem on the Mac side, tell them to submit a bug to Apple.

  • Canon MP620 print driver does not work with Snow Leopard

Bought a Macbook & bundled Canon MP620 printer in Dec 08. Two days ago upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I can no longer print (the printer is not recognized), it only sees "Bonjour scanner" (the printer is a multi-function printer, copier, fax, scanner). Spent more than two hours with two different Apple tech support people over the phone; talked to Apple personnel in store. My printer is connected via Ethernet cable to a wireless modem, and I connect to the wireless modem via Airport. The phone tech person insisted that this printer is supported by Snow Leopard, but we reloaded the print driver from the Snow Leopard installation disk with no results. Finally my last resort, which worked, is to go to Radio Shack and get a cable that has a USB-A (printer) to USB-B (Mac) attachment. I was able to print. It is unacceptable for Apple to have this problem, as I went into the store four different times to discuss whether I should upgrade to Snow Leopard, and was told on every occasion that Snow Leopard will make everything run faster, more smoothy, etc. NOT! I want Apple to post a notice on their web site to a) confirm their print driver problems with Snow Leopard and b) to confirm WHEN new print drivers will be released.

Have a look at my last posting re Canon network printing.

i got my MP980 working via Ethernet and wireless. The same procedure should work for your MP620.

  • HP LaserJet P1005 not working with Snow Leopard

Has anyone managed to get this printer to work with Snow Leopard 10.6? I have installed the latest drivers* from the HP website which BTW do not say they support 10.6 , see http://is.gd/2DfcE
*Not sure exactly what the version number of the drivers is. The website says they are version 1.0.7, but when installed they show version 1.0.6
I either get nothing coming out of the printer or an error "PrintJobMgr quit unexpectedly - This report will be sent to Apple automatically".

    From this web page:
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can use if there is an issue:
Ensure the printer is connected, has power, has ink / toner, paper, and no alerts on its built-in display.
Network based printers should be on the same subnet; you shouldn't have to worry about this if your printer is on your home network.
Use Software Update for the latest available updates.
Delete the affected printer from Printer & Fax System Preferences, then re-add the printer.
If the issue persists, reset printing system as described below, then re-add the printer.
If the issue persists, contact the printer vendor and/or visit their website for printer software and support.

  • Color management help needed for adobe CS5 and Epson printer 1400-Prints coming out too dark with re

Color management help needed for adobe CS5 and Epson printer 1400-Prints coming out too dark with reddish cast and loss of detail
    System: Windows 7
    Adobe CS5
    Printer: Epson Stylus Photo 1400
Paper: Inkjet matte presentation paper with slight luster
Installed latest patch for Adobe CS5
    Epson driver up to date
After reading solutions online and trying them for my settings for 2 days I am still unable to print what I am seeing on my screen in Adobe CS5. I calibrated my monitor, but am not sure once calibration is saved if I somehow use this setting in Photoshop’s color management.
The files I am printing are photographs of dogs with lots of detail  I digitally painted with my Wacom tablet in Photoshop CS5 and then printed with Epson Stylus 1400 on inkjet paper 20lb with slight luster.
My Printed images lose a lot of the detail & come out way to dark with a reddish cast and loss of detail when I used these settings in the printing window:
Color Handling: Photoshop manages color, Color management -ICM, OFF no color adjustment.
When I change to these settings in printer window: Color Handling:  Printer manages color.  Color management- Color Controls, 1.8 Gamma and choose Epson Standard it prints lighter, but with reddish cast and very little detail and this is the best setting I have used so far.
Based on what I have read on line, I think the issue is mainly to do with what controls are set in the Photoshop Color Settings window and the Epson Printer preferences. I have screen images attached of these windows and would appreciate knowing what you recommend I enter for each choice.
Also I am confused as to what ICM color management system to use with this printer and CS5:
What is the best ICM to use with PS CS5 & the Epson 1400 printer? Should I use the same ICM for both?
Do I embed the ICM I choose into the new files I create?
Do I view all files in the CS5 workspace in this default ICM?
Do I set my monitor setting to the same ICM?
If new file opens in CS5 workspace and it has a different embedded profile than my workspace, do I convert it?
Do I set my printer, Monitor and PS CS5 color settings to the same ICM?
Is using the same ICM for all devices what is called a consistent workflow?
I appreciate any and all advice that can be sent my way on this complicated issue. Thank you in advance for your time and kind help.

It may be possible to figure out by watching a Dr.Brown video on the subject of color printing. Adobe tv
    I hope this may help...............
