LR 2.5 won't export TIFF files with LZW or ZIP compression??

I've just updated to LR2.5 and CR5.5, I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 on an AMD x2 64 bit pc.
LR worked fine until 2.4 came along and hijacked all my auto play settings. Adobe finally releases 2.5 and now I find if I export TIFF files from a Nikon D700 NEF all I get is a black box the same size as the image??? If I turn LZW or ZIP compression off and export uncompressed the export works again. JPEG also exports ok.
Anyone else getting this? Have you found out what's causing it?
James.

Thanks for the feedback Jao,
I just tried across the whole range of TIFF options and the only files that don't give me a black file are 8bit and 16 bit with no compression. LZW and ZIP both stuff up
Might try a complete uninstall and reinstall to see if that fixes things. These sorts of things only happen when you are in a rush to get lots of work done!

James

  • New Quicktime 7.6.6 (1671) won't export WAV files

HELP! - New Quicktime 7.6.6 (1671) won't export WAV files. I just did the automatic upgrade to the new version of Quicktime and now I can't export WAV files from a CAF file. The original .CAF file plays perfectly but when I attempt to export it the exported file is corrupted and won't play. I have another computer with the previous version of Quicktime and it exports the same file flawlessly. Anyone know what's going on with the new version? THANKS!

+Error writing to the file: C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.Resources\nb.lproj\iTunesMiniPlayerLocalized.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory.+
More often than not, that sort of message indicates file damage rather than a privileges issue on the file.
If you've got Windows XP, try doing a chkdsk over your C drive, as per:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
If you've got Vista, try the following procedure. Go "Start > Computer". Right-click on "Local Disk C:" and select "properties". Click the "Tools" tab. Click the "Check now" button in the "Error correction" section.
Do the disk checks find/repair any damage? If so, does an install go through properly afterwards?

  • Need help exporting ID file with TOC to EPUB.

I've been troubleshooting a file created in ID CS5.5 and then moved to CC. When I export to EPUB the TOC ends up at the end of the file rather than at the point where I originally inserted the TOC. The vendor I'm sending the EPUB to won't accept a file with the TOC out of place. I tried exporting to an HTML editor and moving the TOC there. (I'm no whiz at HTML though.) Now I see no way to import the file back into ID to export it as EPUB ( and doubt that's the best way to deal with this anyway). I'd deeply appreciate any suggestions!

First of all, a TOC is not only "The Toc". You need to distinguish between the dynamic Reader TOC and a optional TOC e.g. on page 3. While the first is generally required, the second is optional in most cases.
You must also distinguish whether the export is EPUB 2 or EPUB 3.
    1. Assume you mean the dynamic TOC > InDesign will create the TOC on the right place, if you choose the TOC-Style during the export.
    2. Assume you mean the TOC on page 3 > Here the content- or article-order is important! If you have a threaded story from page 2-100 and your TOC as a single frame on page 3 > InDesign will first export the content on page 2 AND the content of all threaded frames and at least your TOC on page 3.
    3. Assume further your exported file is correct in most cases, you can change the order of your TOC in the EPUB directly in the content.opf file in the spine-area
To give you more help, I must have a look at your file.

  • Story does not correctly export fdx file with scene numbers? Bug needs to be fixed.

Story does not correctly export fdx file with scene numbers? Bug needs to be fixed.

Okay, Even if i remove the scene numbers from Story and export the file to Final Draft 8. The format in incorrect. The "transitions" ex. CUT TO:  are not in the correct allignment. Also there are numbers on each of the dialogues
Pretty much alot of the formatting is not the same. Spaces  that break dialouge and action which are there in Story, are not converted over to Final Draft.
Please fix this as soon as possible.

  • How can I export a file with transparent background?

    Hi all,
I know InDesign doesn't allow to export a PNG file, but I need my file to be in image file format with transparent background.
I'm still learning so I am stuck here. How can I export a file with transparent background?

If you can't get the PNG file export to work, you can export a pdf and open it in Photoshop, from there you can save it as whatever you like.

  • Minilab won't read .tiff file from Aperture

When Aperture exports a TIFF file it gives it the .tiff (rather than .tif) extension. Our local professional minilab uses an Agfa D-Lab 2 machine, and apparently this will not read files with a .tiff extension. The lab had to rename all the files on their PC first to give them a .tif extension.
Is there a way of getting Aperture to export files with .tif extension? Or do we have to rename all the files after export before submitting to the minilab? Thanks for any advice!

The .tiff extension is something Apple has needed to fix ASAP for a long time. It gets in the way of a proper workflow. When clients receive .tiff files and they work on them in Photoshop they'll end often end up with .tiff.tif files after they are saved. Very annoying and it probably makes the photographer look sloppy in the clients' eyes.
I've tried the automator route and it doesn't work because it will not rename the extension. You can batch the files in Photoshop, save them as tif's, they'll then be ".tiff.tif" and then use a program like iView to extract the ".tiff" and replace it with nothing so that you end up with the the file_name and the .tif extension. IOW, a tiff named as it should be.
I haven't tried it yet but I may pick up this software, A Better Finder Rename. http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/index.html It says it will rename the file extension and it will do it as a batch. Could be a lifesaver until Aperture fixes the .tiff issue.

  • Photoshop CS6 can't/won't open TIFF file created in photoshop CS3

Earlier this year, I was still using CS3. I created a bunch of original TIFF files, and modified files which had been created in CS1. When I am having to go back and reference these CS3 TIFFs, some of them are giving me an error message and refusing to open. Evidently, they are not compatible with CS6?! Seriously?!
I have since uninstalled CS3, but the box is sitting on the shelf if I need it (which I am hoping I don't). Any suggestions for a workaround - preferably one which will not destroy my layers.
    Thanks!

Well, carp. Just like when you take your car in to the mechanic: I can't find any of the offending TIFF files. Not surprising considering that I have just north of 1,000 on my drive. Yikes.
For the record, the error message basically just said that the file I was trying to open was incompatibile with this version of Photoshop. And just now I successfully opened a file from April 2005, originally created in CS, and it is completely intact. My novice-ness shows through , but it's perfectly intact.
Sorry to bother to Board; I'll come back when (if?) the message comes back.
    Thanks.

The scanner part of our Xerox printer/copier/scanner produces a tiff file that can not be opened by Preview (it does on Windows); does someone know a work-around for this, preferably a free and small conversion program (GraphicConverter does the job but isn't free) or even better: a CMM solution.

  • Sudden problem with importing tiff files with alpha channel (CS5)

OK this is driving me nuts. For years I have been importing image files that have an alpha channel  into FCP as.tiff files. I use Photoshop files only when I want to use the layers as they are too cumbersome otherwise). I have recent upgraded Photoshop, etc. to CS5 and now FCP won't import them anymore. I get a message saying: "File error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown"
I am not doing anything different and tiff files created in just the same way in an earlier version of Photoshop import and work just fine. Is this a CS5 bug? Does anyone know of a work around. I want to keep using tiff files as they seem to work best for me with alpha channel work (and I don't see why I need to reinvent the wheel).
    Thanks
    A

I've had a similar issue recently. Same TIFF files downloaded from the same server, different FCP project, new error. I either see"File error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown" or I get the even stranger, "Unrecognized file type."
I can open them in PS and save them again as TIF, same results. I know these are not CMYK files but even if resave the TIF as RGB, I get the same results, they are not recognized by FCP.
But if I open them in PS and save them as PNG with alpha, they improt fine.
I have no idea what's going on.

  • Automatically Slicing Large TIFF Files with Photoshop 5.1

I am trying to automatically slice a very large TIFF file (800 MB) into 28 equally-sized rectangles using Actions (it is a scanned image of 28 scientific slides and reducing the resolution is not an option). My goal is to start with the TIFF file and end up with a folder that contains 28 separate files. I'll do this on many such TIFF files, so it needs to be coded into an action.
So far I have an action that creates guides in a grid pattern and then converts the guides to 28 individual rectangular user slices that together cover the entire screen. Unfortunately the file is far too large  to use with the "Save for Web & Devices" tool and I also can't export to TIFF from that tool. So I made an action that individually selects each slice (using the slice select tool), copies it, creates a new file, pastes the image, saves it as a flattened, non-compressed TIFF into a new folder, then closes the file. When I try to run this I get the following error:
The command "Select" is not currently available
              -- Continue --       -- Stop --
If I press Continue the action is not carried out. If I press Stop and select the slice manually there is no problem (but then my action will not be fully automated). The image is in 8-bit RGB mode, and I've also tried converting the locked Background layer into a standard layer. I don't see any reason why the select command shouldn't be available! There is only one layer and there are user slices available for selection. I tried separating the slicing and select/import jobs into 2 different actions but it still didn't work.
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • Show stopper: can't import tiff files with camera raw adjustments

For RAW NEF files (coming from a Nikon D80), Aperture doesn't pick up adjustments I've made in ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) when I import them, even though the .xmp "sidecar" files are sitting there in the folder next to the them. Do I have to do something to get Aperture to pay attention to the .xmp files?
Similarly, Aperture doesn't read ACR adjustments I've made to TIFF files. I've read on the web that adjustments made to TIFF files cannot be stored in "sidecar" xmp files. That's clearly true since I don't see the .xmp files sitting next to my tiff files in my image directory -- but my ACR adjustments are stored when I reload the TIFF files in ACR.
In any case, Aperture doesn't seem to recognize either RAW files with sidecar .xmp info, or TIFF files that have ACR adjustments baked in.
This is a show stopper for me and I'd love to use Aperture for its 'Faces' functionality. Does anyone know a fix for this issue?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply, Kirby
the kind of conversion you are talking about is likely a pipe dream.
I gave it a quick look myself just now. the .lrcat file that lightroom has isn't binary & looks just like a huge list of adjustment data for entries in the database. For example, the curves on one of my images looks like this:
    ToneCurve = { 0,
    0,
    37,
    38,
    93,
    148,
    167,
    223,
    255,
    255 },
So it wouldn't be difficult to write a .lrcat > .xmp exporter (basically going back from one Lightroom database to many .xmp files) or a batch .xmp > .lrcat exporter (going from many .xmp files to one Lightroom database).
Looking at the contents of Aperture's .aplibrary package, there's an xml record of all files entered in the database, and I found what looks like image edits in the 'versions' folder -- but unfortunately the edits are stored in a binary format.
Oh well, I guess this is why Aperture is a bit faster than Lightroom -- but will make it very difficult to write a converter to get edits into Aperture. & unless Apple adds edit info to their .xmp sidecar exporter (Export Masters) & includes a batch mode.. we wont be able to get info out of Aperture. So, for the moment, this apparent lack of an open format keeps Aperture from being a professional tool imho, compare to Lightroom.
..but for me there's no reason to switch from ACR to Lightroom because there's no facial recognition, and the curve editing utility is better in ACR.
    Thanks for the comments, David.
I'll be sticking with ACR/Bridge for now -- I'd rather not split my library -- & hope that Lightroom adds some facial recognition functionality
Besides this, Aperture seems like a really nice product.
    Cheers,

If I have to I can work on a CS6 project sent to me, but the fact I can't send a CC project without having to go through hoops (probably as simple as "export as a CS6 project) - is in this day and age simply ridiculous - especially since this scenario does not involve any other product - this is Adobe - to Adobe - PP to PP.. and it won't work?
    Poor... in my opinion.

No offense but how is this ridicules?  It's common sense really.  If you use new features in CC how do you expect CS6 to use something it doesn't have?
