LR 3.2 rename folder (library mode) - number of photos after rename

Hi,
this is my workflow:
1. import as DNG in folder yyyy-mm-dd (e.g. 10 pictures)
2. rename the folder to yyyy_mm_dd -> number of pictures now is 0!!! but all(10) photos are in the library and in the directory on the disc and will be displayed in LR
3. review of the photos, e.g. I delete 2 photos from the library and the directory on the disc -> number of photos are going to negative values now. In this case to -2 and not to 8
4. I didn't find a way to synchronize the folder to get the right number(8) displayed in LR
5. close LR and restart -> now the number of photos is 8
Any ideas?
Thank you, Uwe

Hi Uwe,
Right-click on the folder in Folder view, and select Synchronise Folder
HTH!

  • I have imported my I photo library into Aperture.  all the old i photo events are now in the aperture library showing number of photos but when clicked none display.  I can see the photos if i run the cursor over the project.  Help please.

I imported my i photo library into aperture.
I can see the i photo events in aperture library as events with the number of photos in each event.
When you click events in the aperture library no photos appear although if you roll the cursor over the event icon it show the photos.  If you click on the event either on the event icon or in the library no photos appear.
    Help

Check, if you have any filters set. The search fields in the Insector panel and the browser should be showing "All items" or "Showing All".
The Browser search field could be set for each project and album individually, so you have to check it for each project.
    Regards
    Léonie
For example: The projects count shows "20 items", but the browser is empty, because the project's filter is set to show only rejected items.

  • Sharpening tool is not working in library mode or export LR 4.4

I was editing phots when I suddenly realized that sharpening tool, neither the adjustment brush for sharpening or ordinary sharpening, would be shown in Library mode or when photos were exported. When I see the picture in Develop mode, they seem fine and I can adjust the sharpness as usual. So something goes wrong between Develop and Library mode.
I have Lightroom 4.4. The ISO level in the pictures are not high at all, so that is not the problem, as I have read some explanaitions of. When I see the picture in 1:1 in both modes, they look the same after sharpening. But if I zoom more, I can definately see big differences.
Can someone explain what is wrong? Is this a bug?
    Thank you in advance.

Aha, that explains the Library mode. Still can't see the changes in the exported pictures, though. Everything else works.
Are you running 4.1 or 4.1.1? Maybe that dot release will fix the issue if you're running an older version. And when you Export, do you have sharpening settings on there too? What about Edit In Photoshop command? Do you see the sharpening that way?

  • Sorting in "Folder pane" -- LR4-Library mode

How do I sort my folders in the Library mode -- on the left "folders panel" -- by default it sorts alphabetically -- how do I change that default?

    You can't.
Just use a naming convention that matches alphabetically what you want to achieve.

  • Empty white folder but has number next to it!

After changing a blue folder name in .Mac on my MacBook using the Mail application, a white folder appeared. There is one blue subfolder inside. All my emails in that white folder have disappeared. Next to the white folder is the number 2150, the number of emails that was originally in the folder but is nowhere to be found. How can I get my 2150 emails back? What happened? All I did was to rename a folder and I'm having so many problems!

Lisa, did you ever get your issue resolved? Though perhaps not fully related to your situation, it might help to explain some of it...
Macworld magazine explained it this way:
"So why is a given folder white or blue? This is going to sound a bit strange, but a given folder in Mail is white if it doesn’t exist. I know what you’re thinking—“It must exist, I can see it!” And that’s true, it does exist. But unlike the blue folders, it doesn’t exist as an actual mailbox folder; it’s simply a folder. You can see this for yourself in the Finder.
Navigate to your user’s Library -> Mail -> Mailboxes folder. You’ll see an entry for each top-level folder you have in Mail. If you have any white folders, you’ll see that the folder’s name lacks the .mbox extension—this means that it’s just a folder, and not a real mailbox. As such, that folder cannot be used to store messages, since it’s not a mailbox, but it can store other folders." http://www.macworld.com/article/53837/2006/11/mailcolor.html
So white folders by themselves won't have emails inside. But they can contain mailboxes (blue folders) that do. This explains why trying to delete a mailbox (blue folder) that contains other nested mailboxes causes the enclosing mailbox to turn white. The action deletes all the messages in the enclosing mailbox, but does not delete the nested folders within. Once all the loose messages contained within the top-most folder are deleted it ceases being a mailbox folder and turns white. Mail Help Docs states:
"If you try to delete a mailbox that contains other mailboxes, the mailbox isn’t deleted and the mailbox icon in the sidebar turns white. Before you can delete a white mailbox, you must delete the mailboxes it contains."
Hope this clarifies things a bit. Cheers!

  • Behaviour of folders in library mode

    Hi folks,
when I am in the library mode and close all my subfolder everything is fine. Now I rename a folder and several folders and subfolder pop open.
    Why?
Does someone has the same behaviour?
    Greetings from Germany

    folder problem in library:
whenEVER I delete a folder, perhaps an empty folder. from my library, the following happens:
the folder disappear but every folder in my library is automatically opened and the main library folder is selected. I have to close many folders and      find my next folder that I planned to work on. very aggravating!
This must be part of a set of bugs.

I am tryign tor reorder photos ( in library mode) but warning mesage says cannot do
    can anyone help?

I believe you can only re-order photos in a collection (but not a smart collection) or in a folder.
Alternatively, you can have Lightroom sort the photos by any one of a number of criteria.

  • Can't delete folders in Library mode

I cannot delete folders. I have selected a folder in Library mode but I can find not way to delete it. It seems that I can remove it from the catalog but not delete the folder and the files. Is there a way delete a folder and all the files contained in it?

Yes, but you have to delete images in the folder first. You can delete files within Lr. When the folder is empty Lr will allow deletion of the folder.
I have no idea why Lr requires you do it this way. I suppose it is a safety feature. Mass deletes of folders and their contents could be dangerous.

  • Grey thumbnail, grey loupe view-- no photograph displayed in library mode

When I import a new batch of photographs my library mode, both in grid and loupe view will not show my new photographs.  And not that it just takes a bit of time to load-- the picture will not show, only gray.  This has only happened in the last month or so.  Previously everything worked well.
To get my pictures showing I have to go to develop mode and view them.  The loading is taking considerably longer than it used to as well.  I've been into my preference pane and can't see what to do.  As per a tutorial I upped my "Camera Raw Cache Settings" to 50 GB.  The problem hasn't coincided with this change however.  I don't know what is going on but I am frustrated to have all photos load but not show up in Grid or Loupe mode.
Any ideas?  I have over 7,000 photos in library.  I've validated and checked library and it comes back okay.
    Thanks for your help.
My computer is a newer 27" imac so I should have plenty of juice to run the program.  Hard drive space isn't an issue as I have a 1TB.

Sounds like a corrupted preview cache.  Let's test that theory.  Close LR. Find your catalog on your hard drive, and rename the Previews.lrdata or move it to another location - you can delete it later when we know the new one's ok.  Now restart LR, go to Grid view, select all and go to Library menu > Previews > Render Standard Previews.  Hopefully that'll bring back your previews and if everything looks correct, you can then delete the previous one.

  • Lightroom 4 Bug: can only see photos in Library mode, not develop mode

This may be related to other imported catalog bugs, but does not seem to be quite the same. In Lightroom 4, with an upgraded Lightroom 3 catalog:
    1. Select a photo in Library mode.
    2. Click on Develop to go to Develop mode
Screen shows "No photo selected". I cannot edit photos in Develop mode.
I can see and edit photos that are found in smart collections, but not photos that are simply in my collections from 2012, 2011, etc. folders

This happened to me, too, after importing a couple older LR3 catalogs (upgrading/consolidating). I could see the photo in Library module but when I pressed "D" (single photo selected) I was getting the "no photo selected" error message--for every photo I tried. I wasn't able to open any photos at all in the develop module. (These were photos that were fine before installing LR4 and upgrading.) Photos were from imported LR3 and LR4 Beta catalogs.
I restarted and everything seems ok--for now!
So if you come across this thread with this same issue, restart and see if that helps. (Before restarting LR I optimized as suggested above, which did nothing for the "no photo selected" issue. And this isn't related to the parent folder issue, I left my photos in the same place and didn't have more than 3k photos in any of the parent folders. I read in other threads that people had the issue again after importing other catalogs. I'm about to do that so I'll report back.

  • Option to allow filmstrip to work the same in both develop and library mode

First of all, let me say that one of the greatest features that LR2 brings to the table it the keyboard shortcuts for adjusting things in develop mode. That is the single improvement that has really made a HUGE difference in editing images the way I work.
I'm so happy to be able to get almost everything on the keyboard, that I wanted to point this out.
When in library mode, I can select a series of images in a row using shift + an arrow key. When I'm done adjusting the images, I can press the right arrow key, and I've now effectively deselected all the previous images, and gone on to the next one. This is intuitive and makes sense to me.
But in Develop mode, pressing the right arrow key swings me back around to the first image on the left.
Perhaps for the way some people works, this makes a lot of sense. For me, there's no reason that I would need to do this.
Of course I can deselect all photos (apple-D), but then to get back on track, I have to go to the mouse to select the next image. I would like the option of having the filmstrip act the same way in both modes.
Another solution would be to continue to allow the "Select only active photo" shortcut that is available in Library mode, but for some reason is not available in Develop mode.
Yes, this is a small change, but I feel like things are getting so close to perfect that I wanted to chime in with something that in the end I think will really help to speed up people who have to work through and adjust a large number of images.

    Hi,
If the songs were purchased from itunes, I suggest that you delete the tracks from your itunes library and move to trash (providing you live in a country that permits redownloading). See http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12283.

  • Library mode - stuck on working - never loads

In library mode, when I attempt to use loupe view on a file, it shows working, but then never finishes loading. If I move to develop, it will then show loading and load it properly. But it never finishes working if in library mode. If I then switch back to library it comes up fine.

Library/Previews/Render Standard Sized Previews will do it for the images you have selected. If you have a large catalog, I would recommend that you do it with a sample, say one folder, and see if that helps.

  • LR not seeing my external drive in Library Mode but does at Import

    Hi Team,
I filled up a WD drive and got a new Seagate drive that I've put the last few batches of photos on. Wanting to visit a few photos on the WD drive (that remained in the same USB port as always), I noticed LR wasn't listing it in Library Mode. If I hit Import, it lists it and acts like none of the images have ever been imported before.
I also have a 3rd larger drive that backed up the WD drive. In library mode, LR does see that drive.
I am wondering how I can get the WD drive located by LR again ensuring that my edits to the images are there as well.
FYI, I did do a catalog backup of the Seagate drive. Perhaps that new catalog only backed up the Seagate drive and can't see the WD drive? (but then why would the larger backup drive...)
Thanks for any help you can lend.
    Daniel

Thanks for the reply. I have imported and edited tons of images from the WD drive. So definitely been imported from before. It shows up nowhere on the list. Not as the original drive I had been using, nor as a drive with ?s. Somehow, though, my other 2 drive letters/names did change. One I was able to point to the old location. The other is asking me if I want to combine/merge as the folder already exists. I cancelled this request.
I did try to use the previous catalog from File-Open Recent. None of the drives showed up. No collections, etc. So I went back to the latest catalog. Same issue exists.
    Thanks so much.

  • Scrolling in Library mode is slower, than in Develop Mode

I've got quite a disent hardwere (i3, 6GB) and I don't use big catalogs, I render 1:1 previews, but Lr works really slow, espesially scrollind in Library mode.

Sorry I couldn't answer What Operating system? What LR version?
What do you mean by "scrolling"? (Scrolling between images in grid view? Scrolling between images in loupe mode? Scrolling inside image in loupe mode when viewing it 1:1?)
Also, could you define your "slow"? For example "when I press right arrow (next image) in loupe mode, it takes 5 secods before image is fully rendered."
Sorry I couldn't answer your question.

  • After selecting an image in Library mode (grid view), my selection of image jumps to another image.

Through several versions of Lightroom, I have encountered this problem.  I choose an image in Library mode while in Grid view and the image jumps to another that I have not chosen.  This happens about 75% of the time.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Does anyone know of a remedy.  I am using a Mac.

You are using the Option key to access the Library under the Go finder Menu?
Click in the Go menu the hold the Option key and you will see Library appear, otherwise is is hidden.
