LR 3.3 importing raw and jpg Version of a image...

i tried to import the raw Version and the jpg Version of an Image
Both files have the same name, but different file-extension.
example.orf
example.jpg
LR 3.3 Folders-View shows only the orf version, but the Finder shows both versions at the import location.
During import process the jpg-version is read first, and was visible until orf-version import was complete.
Mac OS X 10.6.5
Olympus E-5 (import via Cardreader)
How i get both Versions visible in LR?

In preferences make sure you select "Treat JPEG files next to
raw files as seperate photos" before you import the files and it will work. See the screen shot.

  • Importing Raw and Jpg?

I've got my camera set up to take Raw and Jpg files. In Aperture I can't seem to find a way to import both, it only shows the Raw files.
    Thanks

Hmm... where can I find those scripts? Anyway, when I hit alt-j to get the jpg, it doesn't get the original jpg. It's not in black and white. When I import with Adobe Bridge it gets my color RAW file and a b&w jpg.
try google, i can't remember where as i have never needed it ...
is alt+J the right command or is that for new version from Master ??? you need new version from Master JPEG ... big difference ... and i can't remember - not in front of aperture ... i think thats right though ...
do the JPGs show B&W in the finder before importing ???

  • How do I rank or rotate a raw and jpg version (combo?)of the same photo with 1 click in Lightroom 4?

Hi, i am new to this forum
I did some searching, but could not find the answer.
I only make stacks of exactly the same photos, but with different formats, mostly 2 jpg versions and a raw. If i change photos further, i unstack that photo, to see the different photos right away.
So, i always want to apply changes to all the photos in a stack, because all basic versions have the same rank, should have the same rotation, and other exif data that i change.
Does anybody know how to always change all photos in a stack in Lightroom?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
If you shoot RAW+JPEG, there is a spechial option in LR (Preferences>General>Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separted photos) which teats both as one item (unchecked).
All your metadata change is appliled to both, but you do not see the JPEG in LR.
I started with this setting on. But after a while, I recongnized, that I do not want the JPEGs anylonger. Why? Because I did two things:
    1. I tried to develop the RAW in a way it looks like the JPEG. Well, O.K. This is only usefull for a very limited number of images (low light, high light) where you have to rescue information from the RAW that is lost in the JPEG. For all other images, it is easier to use the JEPG
    2. I developed the RAW in a way that it looks different from the JPEG. I did so, because I want to show this version to others, not the JPEG. Therefore I deleted the JPEG.
There is no way in LR to apply a function / preset to a stack. Only the marked images are affedted. This is the problem with stacks. E.g. you go into a folder with stacks, select all, export all selected and notice, that some images are missing (the ones in the collapsed stack). Every time I got into a folder with stacks and do not want to organize the images, I select "Expand all stacks" from he menu.

  • How do I have elements 9 sequence the camera raw and jpg versions of a  photo together?

I shoot with a Canon using both camara raw (cr2) and jpg images of the same photo.  Elements used to sequence those in organizer so that the cr2 and jpg shots were displayed next to each other, which is very convenient for tagging and editing.  Now elements 9 is sequencing an entire day of cr2 followed by the entire day of jpg, which is a giant pain for organizing and editing.  Is there some way to sequence them together?  i.e. vacation 001.cr2 and vacation 001.jpg next to each other in the organizer.

    Hi,
The 700D requires Camera Raw 7.4 or later but that is not compatible with Photoshop Elements 9.
If you don't want to upgrade PSE, you need to use the DNG converter. You have to copy your CR2 files to a folder and then use the DNG converter to convert the files (CR2 to DNG), preferably into a new folder. Then you can import the DNG files into your PSE 9.
The DNG converter is a standalone application and does not integrate into PSE.

  • How can I view both the RAW and JPEG version of an image in LR?

I just took some images as both RAW and JPEG images thinking I would see them as separate images in LR4.  However I see them as a single image with a file name that says RAW + JPEG.  They are separate images in my folder but I can't import them as separate images.  Thanks for any help.

You need to edit Prfeferences>General Tab and check the option to "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos". That will work for future Raw+Jpeg pairs, but it doesn't work for already imported pairs. For these, the easiest way to deal with them (after changing the Preferences as described) is to go to the folder containing the existing pairs in the Folders Panel, right-click on it and select Synchronize Folder....this will give you the option to import the Jpegs as separate files.

  • Raw and jpg as one in Lightroom 3 second try.

When I import the pictures from my camera I get my raw and jpg together as one image. But the pictures I already have in Lightroom 3 are divided into separate folders and show up as separate pictures. Is it possible to merge the raw and jpg together without importing them anew? I have put keywords on almost all my jpg in Elemenst 8 and don't want to do it again if I don't have to. It took me weeks to do.
    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks!
I'm in no hurry so I'' wait to see if someone comes up with a solution. Otherwise I guess I have to import them anew and tag them again. Not difficult. Just taskes a while. Should have done it correct from the beginning.

  • Aperature will not dispaly raw and jpg imports

Using a Cannon Digital Rebel XT I shoot raw and jpg images simultaneously. Up until Aperature 1.5.3 I could import both raw amd jpg images. For some reason I now can only import raw images. For example, when I import the same compact disc to I Photo I import 88 images, half raw and half jpg. Now when import the same files to Aperature I get 44 raw images. I have tried trashing the preferences file with no success.

ok, i bet they are there ...
first thing to check is open up the aperture library package (right-click show contents) and navigate down into a project (same thing right-click) ... you should see that the RAW and JPEGs are in there ... if not new problem ...
read this thread as it solved my issue with RAW+JPEG ...

  • Images as RAW and jpgs - how to separate?

I shoot both RAW and jpg, that way I have the RAW for detailed editing, and the jpg for quick edits to post on web, as required, or to send a quick copy to friends.  I will probably stop this (shooting both) when I get used to editing RAW, but that is part of my evolution and growth in developing my skills in my digital darkroom.
When I first started with LR, I was using the Beta 2 version and simply imported my PS Elements 8 Catalog and that worked okay, because both versions of the image were imported so that I could see both of them and then pick the image I wanted for further editing.  I have now upgraded to the new, full version of LR3 and have just downloaded my first set of images from a weekend of shooting - went looking for bluebirds and only found one nesting box with an active pair in it.  I will go back for more in a day or so - more images that is.  It is strange how the population of nesting bluebirds in my part of the Western Prairies has declined significantly in the past five years, but that is a whole, different story,  Anyway to proceed...I downloaded the images from this afternoon's shoot and found that the RAW image (Canon - CR2) and the jpeg show as one image with a title that says IMG_xxxxx.CR2+jpg.  I would like to be able to break the two different images out, or at least get at each one separately for editing purposes.  For the life of me, I cannot figure this one out.  I am still waiting for Kelby's LR3 book that I pre-ordered...maybe this week.  Not sure if that will tell me how to do this, assuming I can.  If I can't do this, then I will have to import into Elements 8 and then re-import that file into LR3 - a process I would rather not have to do.
Any insight that anyone can provide on how to do this (I assume it can be done) will be greatly appreciated.  Maybe it is something as simple as a "switch" on an import preset, or setting up a "custom" import preset (if there is such a thing). Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    WesternGuy

Susan, thanks for the insight.  I think I will follow your lead and delete the images from my catalog and re-import them.  Hopefully I can find the options that you have noted.  It would be nice, though, if there was a way to break them apart after loading, but at least I don't have too many to redo.

  • How to import nef and psd versions of the same file ?

Hi, I am new to this so please forgive any daftness. I am trying to import from a folder with nef and psd versions of the same file. Lightroom does not seem to recognise the nef if a psd exists. In fact if I specifically try to import the nef later, I get the message that says lightroom will not import the file because it already exists. The import is set to keep the originals in the existing location and the database is new. This is the first import I have done and noticed that the file count did not match.
I need to do this because I need to create alternative psd files from the same raw file but I do not see how.
The psd were created via the bridge to photoshop route.
Please what am I doing wrong ?
    Many thanks

Hi thanks for the quick reply. For a "database" application that seems a bit scary. Also I have found that it will import psd and tif and jpg versions of the same file which makes it even odder.
Do you know if there is a way to tell it to favour nef rather than psd ?
    thanks,

  • Canon XSi and aperture, both RAW and jpg viewing?

I just got the Canon 450D and using Canon utility I see both the RAW and jpg pics import next to each other when I shoot in in the RAW and jpg mode. But I import to Aperture and I seem to only see one of them, the RAW one, not the jpg one. Is there a setting for this or am I missing something?
    Thanks

Just right click and choose new version from master JPG.

  • View both RAW and JPG?

On occasion I like to use the art modes on my GF1. Is there any way to see BOTH the RAW and JPG images after I import them? (I'm shooting RAW + JPG on the GF1).
In the "RAW + JPEG Pairs" pulldown I select "Both (RAW as Master).
I've been creating a new version from the master, then setting JPG as the master.
I'm sure there's a better way to do this. TIA.

On the import panel for Import Raw + Jpeg Pairs option select Separate Masters.

  • Since mountain lion my MBP won't import RAW or jpg files

my MBP won't import RAW or jpg files.  Worked fine before.  Could it be Mountain Lion?

By way of a double check I just imported photos, both jpg and RAW, without any problems into Aperture 3.3.2 on Mountain Lion without any problems what so ever.

  • RAW and JPG...

When I open my photos (RAW and JPG) from my Canon 70D camera in Bridge, it says that I only have 2 JPG's instead of a RAW file and JPG file. This makes it hard to work on my RAW photos. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I am a PC user so cannot tell you from personal experience, but it seems that a screen-capture with Cmd-Shift-3 does the entire screen, and Cmd-Shift-4 does the active window, which may be better for a situation where a single application, in this case, Bridge, contains the information to be shown.  After you have captured the screen or window then there will be a file on the desktop that contains an image of the screen.
The next step would be to put the image from that desktop file into a message, here.  The way to do that is go tot he web version of the forums thread, rather than replying via e-mail, then in the area where you can type in more text, click the camera icon above, and browse to the screen capture image on your desktop and select, then click Upload or whatever your browser says, then you should see the picture in your message and you can type in more of the reply before or after the image.
Here is what the camera icon looks like at the type of where you type in text on the web version of the forums:
