LR 3.6 cannot view photos in film strip in Library mode.  Can view photos on Develop setting.

On LR 3.6 I cannot view my photos on the film strip in the LIBRARY setting.  On DEVELOP I can view on photo at a time on the film strip (the rest of the photos are not viewable).  This is a new problem which has only occured on the last two imports.

Sounds like a corrupted preview cache.  Close LR and find the catalog on the hard drive.  Rename the lrdata folder (Windows) / file (Mac) - don't touch the lrcat catalog file.  Then open LR and see if the previews reappear.  If they do, select all in Grid view tonight when you go to bed and go to Library menu > Previews > Render Standard Sized Previews - it take a long time so it's worth running overnight.  If everything looks good in the morning, you can delete the lrdata folder (Windows) / file (Mac) that you renamed earlier.

  • Selecting same photo in film strip and library module

When I select a photo in the library module, the same photo is not selected in my film strip, how do I change this?
The problem is when I select a photo in the library and then click develop, the photo that loads in the develop module is the one I have selected in the film strip, not the one I just clicked on in the library module. In my previous version of LR when I select a photo in the library module the same photo would become selected in the film strip so this problem would never occur, I am trying to find a way to restore this setting.
Also when I click "Ctrl A" in the Library module it selects all photos in my film strip, I would like to select all photos in library module instead so I can click "Sync Settings".
    Thanks for your help!

What version of Windows? I'm using Windows 7 with 8 GB RAM, and don't see those problems. I would suggest that you upgrade to the current version, 5.7.1.
    Product updates
The other suggestion would be to delete your Lightroom preferences so that Lightroom can generate a new preferences file.

  • Lightroom 4.4: Only 3 thumbnails will display at a time in both Grid view and the Film Strip

Hi. I have Lightroom 4.4. and Windows 7--both of which have been working fine for several months. Starting a few days ago, however, thumbnails have refused to load for any NEW photos I import. They appear gray/blank in both Grid view and the film strip. However, if you click on any of the film strip thumbnails (while in either Grid view or Develop mode), that thumbnail and corresponding image WILL load--until up to three have done so. Then they begin disappearing again, allowing you to view no more than three images' thumbnails at any one time.
I can't review a shoot via Grid mode this way. I'm also afraid to use Lightroom while it's misbehaving, for fear of corrupting the catalog somehow (though all the images appear to be there). Searching this forum, I found several people who experienced having all of their thumbnails blank out and who were able to correct this by either reinstalling or removing their color profiling software. However, 1) I did this (and it didn't work), and 2) it isn't that all my thumbnails that have disappeared. All the thumbnails and images imported prior to the bug, still initially display correctly.* And I can get three thumbnails of the newer images to appear at a time.
*The asterisk is because after I poked around some more, I realized that if I opened other folders and began post-processing images from older uploads (vs. just viewing them), the thumbnails that initially displayed correctly everywhere also blank out and begin appearing in this up-to-three-at-a-time fashion.
    Help, please?
    With many thanks,
    Rita

Alas, it didn't work. I did it twice--the second time rebooting the computer before starting Lightroom. I didn't expect the reboot to make a difference, but I did discover something else in the process: the second time I tried this, I accidentally opened a different catalog--and new photos imported just FINE into that one, thumbnails and all! For one moment I thought the reboot HAD made the difference. However, when I reopened the catalog I actually wanted, the original problem remained. Thumbnails don't load with import, and, when forced, only display up to three at a time.
So the problem seems specific to this catalog.
And yes--thank you for affirming that reinstalling Lightroom wouldn't work, either. (I forgot to mention that's what I had tried first. It didn't help--but it's nice to know it wasn't supposed to.)
Thank you so much for your reply. Do you have any other ideas, please?
    With many thanks, truly,
    Rita

  • Images once exported (RAW) do not show up in catalog or previous imorts not film strips in library nor develop.  They are in the files to which they were exported

Not sure how to get this going seems rather redundant.
In the last 4 - 5 days I have imported several hundred RAW files, done some minimal post processing and exported these images to various files (I have verified that the images are in the files to which I exported them).  These images to no show up in previous imports nor do they show up in library nor develop film strips.  How or can I get them to show up for additional review and possible manipulation.  I recently did this same operation with largle JPEG files and all went well.
I did initially have some problems with LR recognizing the RAW files but some how was able to overcome that ( perhaps a card  issue they are old card and the JPEGs were on a new card hmmmm!!??)
Any ways I supposed I can reimport them from their current files but that is a redundant pain.  Suggestions would be apprediated

One possibility is that you accidentally opened a new/different catalog.
Look at File->Open Recent and open the catalogs shown there and see if your photos appear

  • Moving photos within film strip

    Hi,
I apologize in advance for such a rudimentary question, but what would be the fastest and easiest way to move one or more photos from one end of the filmstrip, to the other? I know I can just select the photos I want to move, drag them to the edge of the film strip and wait for it to scroll to the desired location, but I was hoping there is a faster, more efficient way. Basically I have some photos at the beginning of the film strip that I want to place next to similar photos that appear somewhere towards the end of the film strip. Unfortunately shuttle control ceases to function once you click and drag a photo.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There really are many many ways to sort-of do this. It depends how much you want to do with either the keyboard and/or the selection pointer (a/k/a the mouse cursor). None of the ones I know are as direct as it seems you would like.
    A few work-arounds.
    • Select the images you want to move. Press "v" twice to go to Browser view. Change the thumbnail size to small (this can be done w. repeated "{Shift}+{left square bracket}", or in the toolstrip of the Browser). Click-and-drag to where you want. Press "v" to return to Split view.
    • Even easier -- just do this kind of image ordering in Browser view. As soon as you manually move an Image, the sort order changes to Manual. The Manual sort is remembered even if you change to another sort (e.g.: arrange your images, change to date sort, then change to manual sort and Aperture restores your last manual sort).
    • Click to change the Film Strip in Split view to either Browser or List mode (the keyboard shortcuts are listed next to the icons on the Film Strip toolstrip). Scrolling in either of these modes is faster than in the Film Strip.
    • Add color labels to the ones you want together (there are 8 labels to chose from) and then sort by label.
Better yet -- make a Stack of the images you want together. Select the ones at the beginning of the Project, add the ones at the end to your selection, and select "Stacks→Stack".

  • Upgraded to iPhoto 11 version 9.3 and lost all 47GB photos after prompted to update library. Can I get my photos back?

The iPhoto library is still the same size in Finder. But when opening iPhoto it only shows the new photos currently from photostream and none of my albums, last 12 months, etc. Thank you for any help on this.

You're photos are safe in the Master's folder of your library.  The library just can't link to them.  Try the following:  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
    If that fails try
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
Of course if you have a backup copy of your library from just before the problem started that would be your best  move.

  • After selecting an image in Library mode (grid view), my selection of image jumps to another image.

Through several versions of Lightroom, I have encountered this problem.  I choose an image in Library mode while in Grid view and the image jumps to another that I have not chosen.  This happens about 75% of the time.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Does anyone know of a remedy.  I am using a Mac.

You are using the Option key to access the Library under the Go finder Menu?
Click in the Go menu the hold the Option key and you will see Library appear, otherwise is is hidden.

  • Can I move photos from pc to icloud, so I can view on iPhone

How do I move photos from pc to icloud?

Set up iCloud on your PC and enable photo stream as explained here: https://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html, then upload the photos to photo stream as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2606.
If this doesn't work, you can always sync them to your phone by selecting the photos on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.

  • Cannot locate iPhoto 08 (7.1.3) Library in backup - no photos found

Yesterday I helped my sister install Snow Leopard on her MacMini.  We then updated the install so that it's now running OS X 10.6.8.  Using the Migration Assistant we then transferred 'all' her information from a SuperDuper backup on her backup drive.  However, when we opened iPhoto it doesn't contain any photos from her 'old' iPhoto at all. She was also using iPhoto '08 on her previous 10.5.8 version. The only items in the iPhoto library are about 80 images that I transferred from the camera yesterday afternoon after we had updated.
I've done a search for 'iPhoto Library' on her computer and can't find anything!
We know the images must be there somewhere, but where????  I would be REALLY grateful if someone can please tell me how I can retrieve all her photos from her backup so that she won't consider me the 'sister from ****' for the rest of my life :-(
    Many thanks
    Tricia

    More Information -
When I tried to transfer all the data from the SuperDuper backup I received a message that 'Margaret_Surname already exists - choose another name' - so I did.  On 10.5.8 my sister's Home folder was called 'Margaret' - on 10.6.8 it is now called 'Marg_Surname'.  When I check in Finder I see that under 'Users' there are both 'Marg_Surname' and 'Margaret'.
Clicking on the disclosure triangle next to 'Margaret' all the folders have a red circle with a minus sign next to them - including the Pictures folder.  I assume that this may be the reason that the iPhoto Library did not transfer across (because the User Name is different), however, I'm not sure.
Also, I've checked that the red circle with a minus sign relates to 'Permissions'.  At this stage I can't change the permissions.  I merely get the message 'You have no access'. However, it shows that 'Margaret' has read and write permissions.
Should I create a new User Account called 'Margaret' and see if that fixes the problem?
Sorry, I realise that this is only peripherally related to iPhoto but it may be what is stopping me from accessing the iPhoto Library so I thought it worthwhile to post all the information I could give!
    Cheers

  • HELP, please! My photos have disappeared from iPhoto library & I can only see them on the screensaver.

Firstly, I should say we haven't updated/installed/deleted anything.  I just opened iPhoto yesterday and first it told me it couldn't open up without specifying a library, but then it seemed our library has just disappeared.  I then created a new library as, I have to admit, me & my DH are complete tecno dummies, but that didn't help much.  The only thing which we have done in the past couple of days is set up the screensaver to play our photos.  So now we can only see the photos on that - I'm presuming that means they haven't been completely lost (?) but am in a panic as we've got no back-up (three years worth of photos!).
When I go on 'system preferences' (hope that's the correct translation, our computer's using Italian) and the screensaver, I can see 'picture folder' where all the photos are but I can't find that anywhere else on the computer.
Also, I read other threads about similar probs & tried launching iPhoto pressing down 'option & control' but that didn't help me out either.
We also spent half an hour on the phone to the Apple helpline here in Italy (yes, that's a charged call) to try and understand what's gone wrong and the advisor just kept telling us she didn't know how to help us out 'cause our Mac is an old model
Apologies in advance for my complete ignorance about how to solve this problem but I'd be really grateful if someone out there could shed some light on what's happened.

when you say to go to my Pictures Folder, do you mean to go on Finder, then Pictures, then look at the iPhoto library?
Yes. Is there more than one there?
The material in your screensaver are cached images. They cannot be recovered and soon they will go way.
If you have deleted your Library (and it sounds like you have done this, accidentally)  the you have deleted your Photos and you need to restore from your back up.
    Regards

  • My photos look terrible in the library module after editing in the develop module.  They look nothing alike.  How do I solve this issue?  Using Lightroom 5.

anyone have any ideas?  The only way I can get around this is export the photo back into iPhoto and try to edit out the mess.

The waves you are seeing on your monitor must be more pronounced than what I'm seeing in the posted screenshots. The Library module uses Adobe RGB AND 8-bit JPEG preview images, which can cause banding in fine gradient areas (compared to Develop view), but I'm not seeing a huge difference in your screenshots. Here's a screen shot with my non-wide gamut monitor calibration profile. If my screenshot shows less banding than what you are seeing with the original images it indicates a monitor profile issue as described by twenty-one. A hardware calibrated monitor is recommended to prevent these types of issues.
The Library image also appears lighter in the shadow area, which probably indicates more Luminance NR needs to be applied or perhaps less sharpening. Try it and see if that helps with the issue.

  • LR 3.2 rename folder (library mode) - number of photos after rename

    Hi,
    this is my workflow:
    1. import as DNG in folder yyyy-mm-dd (e.g. 10 pictures)
    2. rename the folder to yyyy_mm_dd -> number of pictures now is 0!!! but all(10) photos are in the library and in the directory on the disc and will be displayed in LR
    3. review of the photos, e.g. I delete 2 photos from the library and the directory on the disc -> number of photos are going to negative values now. In this case to -2 and not to 8
    4. I didn't find a way to synchronize the folder to get the right number(8) displayed in LR
    5. close LR and restart -> now the number of photos is 8
    Any ideas?
    Thank you, Uwe

    Hi Uwe,
Right-click on the folder in Folder view, and select Synchronise Folder

  • I used an AppleTV to display on a TV 30,000 digitized family photos stored on my iMac.  When I opted to use iCloud, I lost ability to show my photos.  All I could show are canned Apple photos.  I am willing to pay for iCloud storage.

How do I display on AppleTV screen saver my library of 30000 digitized family photos?  I am glad to pay for extra iCloud storage.

iCloud does not include a feature like the old MobileMe Gallery.
Photo Stream does work on the AppleTV, but will only show the last 1000 photos taken and synced to iCloud. You can't create user-defined galleries.
Until June 30th 2012 (when MobileMe closes down), you can still access your MobileMe Galleries, by logging in using your [email protected] MobileMe AppleID and password. That still works for now.
Unfortunately, I don't think there is a long-term solution for your particular usage.

Now whenever I open a web-page I have previously saved, the "saved as" page disappears and is replaced by a screen showing in grid view the last 12 pages of sites I have visited.  How to restore the setting so that the web page when opened shows the page I have saved.

From the Safari menu bar, select

Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
