LR 3.6 - Rename Photos Issue - Win 7

It is my understanding that when you rename a photo in LR the name should also change in the root folder.
However this does not seem to be happening, I have checked the name in Lightroom and it has changed, ie. family_trip_100 then I go into the folder and bring up the only and exact same photo and it says it is family_trip_7-2
Can someone explain this?
Cheers

I should have said the home folder but I found out why this is happening and it was myself that was at fault. Thanx

  • LR4 Not Allowing Me to Rename Photos

I've been running on LR4 for about 2 weeks with no issues until last night when, for some reason, it would not allow me to rename my photos. I had been renaming photos almost every day since I got LR4 and this issue just popped up out of nowhere yesterday.
'Some Photos Will Not Be Renamed Because They Are Missing Or Not Writable' is the saying that pops up. But the files aren't missing and not sure why they aren't writable.
    Thanks if anybody can help!

Does the renaming work if you wait a minute and try it, again?  LR might be busy building a preview or writing metadata to the photo or its sidecar and won’t let you rename the photo until it is done doing that.
If waiting doesn’t change the situation, then if you are on Windows, right-click on the thumbnail of a troublesome photo in the thumbnail bar at the bottom and choose Show in Explorer, and if that works, then right-click on the photo in Explorer and choose Properties and look at the Attributes at the bottom of the General tab, looking to see if the Read Only attribute is checked.
If right-clicking on the photo in the thumbnail bar gives an error, then right-click on the folder that contains the photo in the left panel of Library and choose Show in Explorer and find the photo by scrolling down in the Explorer window and right-click and choose Properties then look at Attributes to see if Read Only is enabled.

  • IPod Classic: Photos Issue: Photos on iPod Show Black Screen - Replicated!

Issue / My Solution related to format = PC / Windows
*FINALLY! I've replicated the issue where some random pictures in iPod photos show as a thumbnail, DON'T show when clicked with center button (instead a nice friendly black screen is shown) but DO show when you click the center button again to start Slide Show.*
Firstly, I'll start by saying that this was one of 4-5 issues that caused me to go to my local Apple store today & get my SECOND replacement (3rd iPod Classic; Black; 160 GB). It made me laugh when the technicians told me the truth; since Apple never preps even their own people for new products to possibly get trained on so that maybe they're more technically knowledgeable then their consumers when they go on sale, this store's approach has typically been 'Problem with a 6th Generation? Here's a new one'.
It's been a quick & easy way to satisfy customers while getting them no where, but they go home thinking their new unit will work, when in reality it was never a hardware issue.
Anyways, I exchanged 2 x 160 GB & 1 x 80 GB tonight for many of the same reasons, truthfully because I felt I'm due new units after the amount of times I've reimaged (restored) each by restoring all versions of the firmware software.
Many of you have experienced the photo issue I mentioned above before going off on my tangent, many of you may not have (yet).
Well, I'm 1,000% that I replicated this one:
*When restoring one of the iPods replaced, I conveniently noticed that the pictures which showed up blank on my iPod had illegal characters in their Windows Filenames.*
*These characters can include, but are not limited to:*
    *apostrophe ('); comma (,); period (.)*
*Again, the characters above are the only ones I've identified so far; granted that it should not ultimately be like this; the iPod should accept filenames containing these characters & if it can't or it's too hard for it to accept them, iTunes should display a warning to the end user to change the filenames with illegal characters.*
In conclusion, I'm about to unwrap my new 160 GB & sync it. I will avoid & hold off with the 1.0.2 update for as long as possible in hopes that a 1.0.3 comes out soon; especially since the only noticeable difference it made for me was a faster & more responsive & sturdy Cover Flow (don't even use anyways) + shuts off in my JBL Dock at work (replicated as a bug in 1.0.2; workaround: use PLAY, PAUSE & other controls on the unit itself, not with the dock or remote control on the dock.)
I learned my lesson the hard way & will definitely wait a few days until 1.0.3 is released to see how it really is by feedback posted here in this forum. For all you newbies, this is the best advice I can offer; don't bank on 1 or 2 posts, read a bunch. When you start seeing a pattern of problems, you know something can't be right. It's funny how you look at the post history of these updates (1.0.1 & 1.0.2 & you see all those who jumped to install post only the nicest things & the great enhancements they see, until a day later they're hit with the negatives of that build.
_*+--> Truth is,_ I can't believe Apple has gotten away without releasing 1.0.3 by now.+*
*+If this keeps up, I hate to say it, but their ratings will definitely go down the tubes (not being negative, just a realist).+*
    Any thoughts?

I don't think it's illegal file names. I've noticed that the file takes a while to "load" even when after you see the thumbnail in the main screen. A few back and forths and hearing the hard drive spinning finally confirmed that it would take a while for the pic to show up...extremely annoying, but a hard drive type issue methinks. Photos that show up once, don't show up again or take forever to do so and vice versa.
Not sure how this affects firmware as I'm not techy (I'm jazzy :)).
I'm going to let all my photos "fully load", and then try it again.
    I tried your method on 3 sixth generations with this issue (2 x 80gb & 1 x 160gb). I let them sit for 12 minutes; no picture.
Changed filename to remove a comma found in the names; then I sync it again & ALL BETTER.

  • Weird file renaming permission issues

    Hi!
We have a file rename permission issue. Here is the background:
We created a 2008 R2 DFS namespace called UserData with Read/write share permissions for Administrators, Everyone and System. UserData has been granted NTFS permissions as follows:
Everyone (This folder only): Traverse folder / Execute files, List folder / Read data, Read attributes, Create folders / Append data
CREATOR OWNER (Subfolders and files only): Full control
SYSTEM (This folder, subfolders and files): Full control
Domain Admins (This folder, subfolders and files)
We then enabled folder redirection for users My documents folder through GPO, setting the following:
Setting: Basic - Redirect everyones folder to the same location
Target folder: Create a folder for each user under the root path
    \\domain\UserData
We also unchecked Grant the user exlusive rights to documents.
So, now to the really weird behaviour. We logged on to a Windows 7 (x64) client computer with a user who gets this GPO settings and that is not local administrator on the client. The folder is redirected as expected and we can create, delete and write to
files in anyway we want. We can also rename files if we choose an entirely different name and if we choose a longer or a shorter file name,
but we cannot rename the file to something with the same letters but different casing.
    Examples of what will work:
    "test" to "testing"
    "test" to "cool"
    "test" to "COOL"
Examples of what will NOT work:
    "test" to "Test"
    "test" to "tesT"
    "test" to "TEST"
We the get this error: "File Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from S-1-5-21-220..... to make changes to this file."
Eventhough I'm pretty sure the share and NTFS permissions of the share are correctly set we have of course checked all the permissions when logged in and the user has Full NTFS control and Read/Write Share permissions.
We have encountered the same problem on a customer company as well, with a different domain with no links to our domain what so ever. I have also seen similar problems from other people when trying to find the answer on internet. Here is an example:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprosecurity/thread/35ced5bb-ab13-4e28-8c48-7c68ce0b775c
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    /Leyan

    Resent discoveries:
If I log onto a Windows 7 (x86) Enterprise I face the same Issues.
If the same user logs on to one of the DFS servers holding the namespace and accesses his folder we experience
    no problems renaming files.
Customer company states that all is working fine when user logs on to a Windows XP with SP3.

  • Import and rename photos via Automator and ExifTool

    Hiya,
Just finished my work on a Automator workflow in order to import and rename photos from a portable hard disk.
I had the problem that my portable hard disk (with integrated card-reader) was not recognised by Image Capture or Aperture. Therefore I couldn't import my photos straight away into Aperture.
Another problem I had was that Aperture doesn't rename photos while importing. Whereas other Automator actions offer this feature, they all didn't fulfill my requirements - yeah, I can be very fussy
That's why I started initially to write a Perl script based on ExifTool in order to copy and rename photos to my liking. Once this was done and very much in use, I started to put it into an Automator action with a little AppleScript around it.
Eventually, I initiated the entire Automator workflow with the Check For Disk action.
More information and the files needed can be found on my website http://photography.stephanjaeger.eu/2007/03/improve-your-digital-photography-wor kflow.html.
The only drawback of this script is that only one camera is supported. At the moment, I work on a solution to support several cameras.
The Perl script can used by itself, if you feel comfortable in using the Terminal.
I hope you find the information and the Automator action helpful.
    Any feedback appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Stephan Jaeger

    Brian,
Thanks for giving it a try. Let me know how you get on!
If you have any problems, please don't hesitate to contact me.
By the way, you don't have to use an external hard disk. You could replace easily the first step in that workflow with an other action, such as defining a folder that should be monitored, or selecting manually a folder that contains photos.
I hope that I find some time over the week-end to make some changes to the script. I will set up as well a page on my web site with more details.
    All the best,
    Stephan

  • Microsoft word: rotate photos.  Apple: rename photos

Hello, I am new to apple, and English...
    I have two problems:
Microsoft word. I want to rotate a photo inserted in one of my word document, I can see the function "rotate" in the tool box but this is not working. When I click on the rotate option, every options appear in pale gray, and don't seem to be activated. Right click on the rotate function is also coming up with pale gray options....Is rotate photo not activated on my word or is it not possible to rotate a photo with apple on a word document?
Rename photos. I can rename one photo at a time, but I can't rename more than one at the same time??? if I select all the photos I want to rename, i can't find an option to rename all of the selected photos. I found the answer on the support web site for one photo only. Do you know if I can rename many photos at the same time or is it not possible with apple?
Any help would be very appreciated,
    many thanks in advance,
    Yannick

Rotate in MS Word 2008 works fine for me so it's possible your installation is corrupt. Below are the steps I used to rotate:
    1. With the photo in the MS Word document ensure it's selected.
    2. Open the Toolbox
    3. Open the Formatting Palette
    4. Towards the bottom of that palette locate Size, Rotation, and Ordering and then rotate using that tool.
For your photos I would recommend creating an Automator routine for doing that. Here is a an article that shows how to do it.

  • Rename Photos in Gallery - C5

When I try to rename photo in gallery, if I use the upper case when I confirm the operation the phone save the name but in lower case.
If I try to rename again the same photo, if I type in Upper case the same text the phone show me that there is another file with the same name.
With my old nokia N70 I didn't had this problem.
    Thanks.

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again?
You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

  • Simultaneously rename photos in LR and on disk

Hi...just purchased and started using LR today so I am a total newbie. The reference book I purchased states that renaming photos in LR also renames the image files on disk. However, so far, LR has not renamed the photos on the disk...what am I doing wrong? Obviously, I'd like the file names be consistent between LR and the source...Thank you!!!

I was importing images from an external hard drive and upon import, was inadvertently copying them to a location on my C drive. So when I renamed my files, the names were modified on default backup location on the C drive as opposed to the external source disk. Not sure why the images wouldn't be renamed on the actual source disk from where the images were imported, but there it is....

  • Import // rename photos

    does anybody know
how can I replace about 2000 photos in indesign without having to import and rename the photos?
for example if I have 4 photos in a document, named A,B,C,D located in a folder named X
and I want to replace them with 4 different photos, named E,F,G,H located in a folder named Y , is there a possible way to do it automatically instead of manually?

I got that.. is just an endless procedure to re-link each image...as well as rebuilding from scratch (with bridge contact sheet)
I cannot rename the images because they belong to specific libraries and they ought to have the specific names however
your second suggestion "export the file to a .inx file and open the file in a text editor, like notepad or something, and then find the reference to a.tiff and replace it with b.tiff.", might be faster because I already have txt files listing the images. SO the replacement in a notepad of a.tiff to b.tiff its more than easy.
if I do  that what could you please tell me what is the next step in order for my initial .indd file to take the information from .inx file?

You basically have to tell indesign what image you want to link to. If you say that you want to link to a.tiff and then you want to change the image to b.tiff you have to Relink the image. As all indesign sees is a path to the file, i.e., c:\mydocuments\eugene\images\a.tiff
InDesign has no way of reading your mind and inserting the b.tiff instead.
The only other way to do it is to rename b.tiff to be a.tiff
Or if you export the file to a .inx file and open the file in a text editor, like notepad or something, and then find the reference to a.tiff and replace it with b.tiff.
But you don't want to do that.
What I'd do is load up my cursor with all the images I wanted to place and go to each image and just click on it to insert the new image.
    or
I'd select the images in the links panel (Window>Links) and choose Relink, and then when prompted to relink A.tiff I'd choose b.tiff, and when prompted for the next image I'd select the new image I wanted to place.
But InDesign won't be able to read your mind, you have to tell it what image you want to replace the other image.

  • Can I rename photos in Aperture?

Can I rename photos after they are in Aperture?  The only thing I can find indicates renaming them during import only.

If by photos you are referring to the masters then you can rename them but it is not the most convenient thing.
You need to use Metatdata->Batch Change
Then set the version name and check the Apply to Master Files box. The name will be applied to the version selected and to it's master file.

  • Renaming photos

The process of renaming photos to suit my preference seems complex. Is there are simple way? If not, what are the steps. An old question from a new user.
    Thanks!

What does "renaming photos" mean? Do you mean adding a title to the image? Or (as many do) renaming the file? These are not the same thing.
Adding a title to an image is straightforward. If you're finding it complex then perhaps you might explain what process you are using.

  • How to rename Photos and Videos ???????

Could somebody please tell me how to rename Photos and Videos on Iphone5 ?
If you cannot, what is the logical explanation behind it ?
Would of thought this is something basic....

Since photos and videos should always be synced to a computer for storage, rename them there.  I'm assuming you're trying to find a way to rename in the Photo app, right?  Don't trust your phone or even icloud to safely store your photos.  Think of the iphone as a digital camera.  Most digital cameras don't let you rename a photo.

  • Rename Photo-File without loosing Tag-Information

    Hi
I would like to rename photos (Photo-Files). The name should contain the camera or/and camera-model
    Something like this:
    "Sony Nex5 001.jpg" or better "Sony Nex5 14102012 001.jpg" (with Date)
I use PSE8. And i would like not to loose all my Tags on the pictures.
Has somebody an idea how to do that? Many thanks!!!
    Greentings from Switzerland
    René

Each Picture contains the Information of the camera and model in the Exif Formattags
In my case this is (in german):
    Marke:    Sony DSC
    Model:    NEX-5
This Information i would like to place in my File Name

  • Renaming Photos Advice Not Effective

I've gone over the posts on this topic until I can't think straight. Old Toad told someone (a few people, actually) that to rename photos in iPhoto, you must first make a new folder on the desktop, move the photos to it, change the name, then move it back to iPhoto with the new name. I tried that; however, when I began the move, MacBook changed my application from iPhoto to Finder. Old Toad also said that if the photos are changed in Finder, they won't be recognizable to iPhoto and will disappear. If MacBook is going to be changing me to Finder just through the act of moving the photos from iPhoto to something else, how does one follow this advice?
To be fair to you, I'm a new user of Apple, and I don't yet subscribe to the idea that the Mac is THE way of finding ease in home computing. iPhoto is the best example I can think of to demonstrate that it just plain ain't.
    newitchway

You don't have to move them to your PC to rename them. For the photos that are already in your library what you can do is....rename right within iPhoto by giving them titles. You will have to give each photo a distinctive title so they all have different titles. This is one reason why iPhoto does not change the name of the photo in the Finder. What if you named two photos taken on the same day "John". You can't have two files in the same folder with the same name. That is why titles you give in iPhoto, stay within iPhoto and do not change in the Finder.
Anyway, getting back to what you want to do...after you rename them in iPhoto, then share>export each roll to a new folder on the desktop. In the export window, choose "title" as the naming scheme. Once all rolls are exported to their respective folders one the desktop, close iPhoto.
Now navigate to the Pictures folder and rename the iPhoto Library folder to "iPhoto Library_old"
Launch iPhoto and it will ask you to "create" or "choose" and iPhoto library to open.
    Hit "create"
    Name the new library
Once the new library is open, drag your folders on the desktop one at a time into an open iPhoto Library viewing window.
Once all the folders are imported you will now have the photos having the same name in the finder that they will have within iPhoto.
You can delete the old library and all the folders on the desktop now.
In the future, use Image Capture to download your images to the Pictures folder. Put them in a dated folder and then rename the photos. Remember you can't give two photos the same name. Once the photos are renamed then you can import that folder into iPhoto. Once imported, you can then delete the folder or save it to burn for backup.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
I have to tell you though, I think that this a lot of work for something that really doesn't need to be done. I find it to time consuming to rename photos. I always keep the name given from the camera. I don't even title them in iPhoto. I do give all my photos keywords to make it easy to find the photos I want.

  • Software to watermark and rename Photos

    Hi,
Can someone suggest a Software to watermark and rename Photos. I want to rename photos based on the date stored in the EXIF information of the photo.

    iPhoto can't do this.
Aperture can just like these two apps:
    Impression
    iWatermark
There are others. Search on Macupdate.
