LR 4.2 RC and in-camera crop

I feel I am not really understanding how this is meant to work.
LR 4.2 RC shows the crop set in-camera (say 1:1 aspect ratio), but I can see no means in LR's crop tool to recover the rest of the image outside of the crop. At least not for my Olympus OM-D EM-5.

The problem boils down to gracefully handling existing pictures of the existing cameras. You can imagine that if existing crops are defined in terms of the camera-crop then changing things so that there is a choice whether to use the camera crop or not, that many places in the code would need to be updated properly and perhaps something would be missed and crops would shift intermittantly. I think Adobe made a bad decision in the first place and now that they’ve seen the error in their ways, it is not straightforward to fix.

Is it possible to make a preset that makes it crop all my images to 5x7 instead of camera crop?

All my templates for printing are made for 5x7 crops. So my cameras are all 4x6 crops and I want to import my images and have LR crop to 5x7. I've tried to save a 'preset' to save 5x7 but it doesn't save that crop? I can save everything else except a default crop.
I know that i can copy and paste those settings after I import, but it would be nice to have all that done when I import to begin with.
Or maybe theres another shortcut to do this?

The placement of an image into an image cell within a page layout, does not require you to have cropped the image (in Develop) to that same shape exactly. The same image can be used within different page layouts at varying aspect ratios.
Normally an image is scaled to FIT into its image cell without loss. This means that margins are left inside the image cell, outside the image area, wherever the aspect ratios do not match. However, by highlighting a given cell and checking the option to "zoom to FILL", the image is instead zoomed larger until no margins are seen. In effect, this is a second on-the-fly "crop" which only operates inside this page setup. By setting this option for all the image cells (good idea to save your layout as an updated page preset), you remove the need to crop images specially for usage within those.
If your image is (say) 4:3 - then this "print crop" will need to trim off parts of the image, to get it to 7:5 proportion. But the same would equally be true if you used the Develop crop, instead, to get it to that same proportion.
Benefits: you still can show / export the same image for other uses, at its original 4:3 shape - or any other shape - in parallel. You can "slide" the crop of the image to a better composition, right inside its framing window within a given page layout, interactively (if it is a free-form layout, you may need to hold the Ctrl / Command key so as to do that).
Personally, as a rule, I retain my as-shot aspect ratio for general purposes. I treat that as a distinctive property of each image, as I took it. I don't want to affect my careful general-purpose composition, merely because I may have printed it in a certain way. Printing is to some degree a separate matter: one can either present those whole-image compositions centred generously inside a variable-margin region of the page - or force-frame them tightly to a given shape on the page - as the whim strikes. And then save that as a Print Collection for future re-use.

Centro camera crops/zooms at low res setting

When using the Centro to take a video, I reduced the resolution to the lowest setting, in order to take a longer video and keep the file size down for sending via MMS. Unfortunately, when reducing the resolution, the camera crops the view, essentially zooming in on what I'm trying to take video of. This is really annoying and makes the low res video practically unuseable to me. Unfortunately the high res video is unuseable as well, since I can only record a few seconds before hitting the file size limit to send the video as an MMS message.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Any idea what the limitation in the hardware is? When I showed this "feature" on the Centro to the sales guy at Best Buy, he was surprised. He whipped out his Treo and showed me that his Treo doesn't do that. He can reduce the resolution of the video without any cropping or zooming. Yet is has the same 1.3 MP camera in it... I think. I could be wrong about that.

I read that it is not on Snow Leopard only on Leopard....so do I need to get only Leopard? Can u advise?

Sscrase what specific error messages did you receive within the installation log files for the update? I purchased a blu-ray of The Hunger Games and it came with a code for a digital copy. I redeemed the code on iTunes but the download has been continuing for 2 weeks now and it never finishes! The time just keeps going up. Never an issue in the past.

However, if I just connect the camera to the Air's USB port, with the camera's available cable, and the Air is open, will a program like ImageCapture or iPhoto, auomatically come up, and I can begin to download wanted images? Or, will this sort of connection delete or fry everything on the Air? Do I need any other software on board? Will current Apple onboard programs allow me to download images from my camera and not destroy everything else?

If you don't have a backup then the only possible solution is to go back to the store and see if they can get your old phone and create a backup of that. I know very often that Apple employees will wipe the returned iPhones clean before shipping them back to wherever they ship them.
When you say your old phone was "broken" does this mean it is dead and won't turn on?
Do you have a Time Machine backup of your computer, or a clone that might have this info on it?
Other than that I hate to say you may be out of luck. Time Machine and/or a cloning program performed regularily will inevitably save your a** in situations like this.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. If not, the machine needs to be serviced. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
11. Reset the NVRAM.
12. Reset the SMC.
13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

You were probably using the Release Candidate version of camera raw 8.7, which one gets from Adobe Labs.
