LR 4.2 won't import a JVC Everio MOD (MPG) video file

I have hundreds of JVC Everio video files that are natively created as MOD files on the camcorder.  However, I can copy them to my Windows 7 system and simply rename them as *.MPG files and they play fine in Windows Media Player.  I noticed that Adobe Premier Elements can import MOD files, but I get a "There is a problem with the video file..." error message in LR4.2 when I try to import the renamed MPG file.  The Import function won't display MOD files as a valid file format, but the MPG files do appear in the Import browser list.
Below are the specs from the MOD file renamed to MPG.

I'm confused about the licensing issue.
Cyberlink PowerDirector will successfully import and manipulate both *.MOD files and MOD files renamed as *.MPG.
Adobe Premier Elements can (apparently) import MOD files (see http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/supported-file-formats-premiere-elements.html).
Why can't Lightroom?
Any recommendations on what format to convert the MOD files to so I can import them into Lightroom?

  • Problem transferring JVC Everio HD Camcorder Video files to ZEN 1

I can't seem to succesfully transfer video files recorded by my JVC Everio hard dri've camcorder to my ZEN. The files as originally downloaded from camcorder to PC are?.MOD format which is not visible to ZEN Explorer as a videofile and will not convert at all. I?changed the file extension to .AVI?and these are now visible and will convert and transfer, but?cannot be played by my ZEN.
Has anybody else had similar problems, or?does anybody have any suggestions?p.s. I have succesfully transfered other video files including AVI files?recorded using my Fuji stills camera.

welcome batman to the  board ...
well... the iApps iMovie and iDVD are meant to work
    with firewire connected miniDV camcorders...
you lose the convenience of the iApps... anyhow:
    Streamclip
(free) is the weapon of choice, in case, your
    HDcorder stores as mpeg1...
for mpeg2 conversion, you need additionally the Apple
    mpeg2 plugin (20$) ...
    helpful?
    Thanks for the quick response!
Well, I think they are in mpeg2 format, but not positive. Anyway, I did away with miniDV camcorders because they transfer much slower to the computer than the HD camcorder...but now I get this issue! lol I guess that's what I get for switching to a Mac!
Is there any other way besides the $20 plugin to convert the file? Will the plugin lose any quality in the conversion process?

  • Why won't Log and Transfer in FCP7 recognize video files from my SD card? They were shot on a cheepo Aiptek camera.

Why won't Log and Transfer in FCP7 recognize video files from my SD card? They were shot on a cheepo Aiptek camera.

David, the camera shoots .mov files. I have the latest version of QuickTime installed but still nothing.
I teach high school, but I'm reluctant to download FCPX for my students at the moment. I may try it but I really want to stick with what we're using currently, at least for now.
iMovie started to import files, but very slowly. I guess I'm frustrated that the files shot on the Canons I also use transfer just fine, but the Aiptek camera isn't cooperating.
Would you suggest using MPEG Streamclip?
    Thanks again in advance.

  • MPG video file importing as audio HELP!!!

MPG video file importing as audio HELP!!!
I am using Premiere pro CS5 trial version. The videos I have are in .mpg format and play fine in other programs. When I import them into Premiere they are importing as audio files.
I have a week to get this project done for uni and Im freaking out! It worked on the uni computer before christmas but isnt working here, its the same program and same operating system (windows 7).
    What am I doing wrong!!!?

You are doing nothing wrong. The trial version does not support MPEG. The full-paid version has no such limitations, and also comes with a 30-day, money-back guarantee, so if you do not like it, you can return it for a refund.
The limitations of the trial version are HERE.
Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

  • AE CS4 - Import problem (JVC Everio clips in 16:9)

    Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help me with this because it is driving me crazy I got a  JVC Everio "GZ-MG750" camcorder some months ago and I must say I first had problems with "Export" (JVC to PC) because when you have recorded the clips in 16:9, if you don't use what is called sdcopy.exe, clips in your PC become 4:3.This [sdcopy] allows you to keep the original aspect ratio.
Apart from that... the problem is, I am starting to learn After Effects CS4 and I have "Import" problems and I have gotten stuck on this. My clips are supposed to be 16:9, but when I import them, they become 4:3, and if I type that my composition must be 16:9, etc. it works but not with the clips. The clips are still in 4:3 and I can't understand it, because after all, they shouldn't be 4:3 anymore since I made the change of aspect ratio with sdcopy. It does work in Premiere CS4 (the video imported is 16:9) but not with After Effects CS4.
    What's happening here? Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marta

At the bottom of the Comp Window you'll find the pixel aspect ratio compensation toggle switch.  Toggled on, everything's in the proper screen aspect ratio, but the edges look stair-steppy, expecially text & graphics.  Toggled off, everything is smooth but not in the proper screen aspect ratio.
When rendered, everything will be in the same screen and pixel aspect ratios as your comp, AND it will be nice & smooth.

  • My Mac Pro won't recognize my JVC Everio Micro SD Camcorder

    Hello,
I have a JVC Everio Micro SD Camcorder, and my Mac Pro can't recognize it, I think I need a driver from JVC, but I can't find the download link, anyone have a clue?

You posted in the "Intel iMac" Forum.  I would suggest you try reposting in the "Mac Pro Forum".

  • JVC Everio .mod files

Hi, i've got a JVC Everio and have nothing but troubles.
it creates .mod files, which i understand are just mpeg files. So i simply change the extension, but when i import them into AE, i get sometimes a few big red pixels, one frame is then all bright red.
I don't get this when i play it in another player.
In premiere the files play (red squares still happens), but no sound at all.
anyone had this problem, any extensions, workarounds?
    Cheers, Dimitri

As Andrew said: Use the conversion options in the bundled software. The camera uses MPEG-II transport streams, possibly with long-GOP extensions, which is simply *yuck* for any editing. It needs at least be converted to a proper MPEG-II file with a predictable GOP scheme or even I-frame only so Premiere and AE can make sense of it. If the software CD provides a specific CoDec, you may be able to load the file as an AVI. Will be slow as hog as it relies on Windows' own components, but might at least avoid the artifacting.

  • JVC Everio .mod files on FCP

I want to purchase a JVC Everio camcorder that records to hard disk. The problem is I've heard people have to convert the .mod files it creates to be able to edit with them.
Their website says they record "High-Quality MPEG-2 Video Recording (up to 720 x 480/60i in ULTRA mode with Dolby Digital Audio (MOD file)"
Seeing as how I can read/write dolby sound and mpeg2 I thought I could just drop them straight into FCP, or maybe rename the extension then drop them in.
Can someone let me know they've been able to do this? Or could someone supply me a small clip with sound I can try for myself before I buy this camera?
    Cheers

MPEG 2 files are not generally directly editable in FCP, so you'll have to convert them to a native format. I seem to recall that MPEG Streamclip or DVDxDV will convert the files to DV, but I may be mistaken. Perhaps someone with experience with this camera will pipe up...

  • Problem when importing several (2,3 or 4) video files into one project.

Im creating a project video with several videos running at the same time in one screen.  Sort of like a surveillance with different videos but for some reason one of the video file seems to change from 45 seconds to 3 minutes.  When all of the video files are 45 seconds but after effects seems to put that video file into 3 minutes.  I even deleted the file and imported another video just like it and it works fine until I open the project again.  I am using AE CS4.

I hope I did this correct.  The first link shows the video length of the videos, this is how it is suppose to be.  Then the second link shows the problem in which one of the videos after (after effects) is closed and then opened again.  One of the video seems to malfunction and shows that it is longer then 45 seconds.  I tried to delete it and open up another one... and then another video seems to malfunction.

  • Having problems importing and viewing any kind of video file in iTunes 7

I just cannot seem to be able to do this. I have tried dragging and dropping files into iTues and importing files and whole folders of videos but nothing happens. Do video files have to be Quicktime format to be viewed in iTunes and if so does Quicktime Pro have a tool that converts other file formats to be viewed in Quicktime?
I would be really grateful if anyone can help with this.

  • How best to import .mod/.moi video files easily into FCP?

We are struggling to import video off a SD card into either iMovie or Final Cut Pro.  How do we this easily?

.mod is a MPEG Program Stream container for standard def MPEG2 video files.
.moi is a management system for playing back those files and does not contain any video.
    More: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOD_and_TOD_(video_format)
You can probably convert the .mod files to an editable format like ProRes LT with MPEG Streamclip Even if that software cannot process these particular files, it is a very useful tool to have around for lots of other reasons. It is also free so you have nothing to lose.

  • IMovieHD-importing converted JVC Everio files

How does iMovieHD handle clips with identical names. Suppose I reset my file numbers in the camera befoe going out and shooting for each day, then when I convert the files toDV for iMovie, then successive days recordings will have identical file names, if I am using several days clips in one movie will this confound iMovie HD?
It worked for me for a couple of days was I just lucky?

As long as you drop your clips in the iMovie window, you should be file. iMovie handles duplicate file names just fine.
(The wrong method is moving the clips with Finder, which may cause all kinds of problems.)

  • Why won't the WVC80N write a motion-sensed video file?

I'm using a WVC80N camera and a WRT1900AC Wireless Router.  My HP MediaSmart server, WHS 2003, is connected to the router via cable.  I can have the camera ALWAYS RECORD to the server because the setup for that asks directly where to put the file.  However, I want the camera to use motion sensing but that only goes to an FTP server.  I input the local IP of my HP server and a port I have cleared on the router, the computer and the server firewalls.  NO file is written even though the camera log says motion was detected as shown below:
(07/16/2014 19:37:20 FTP: Error during the connection or timeout.
    07/16/2014 19:37:15 Alert: Detected motion.).
The first line is absolutely NO use:  What "Error"?  Yes, the user ID and password for the server are entered (several times just to make sure).
I have done this on BOTH the direct camera input and the camera utility program.  By the way, why does the camera utility program constantly CHANGE the frequency to Once per Day EVERY time the utility is opened?  Doesn't / Can't it save Every Day to a file?  I have also RESET the camera and reinstalled the camera using the CD installation program so don't bother suggesting I do that AGAIN!  I can view the video from this computer using the camera utility or from my cellphone or iPad/iPod using any of several applications and the DNS tracker.  So I know the camer is working, I just can't get the video file stored onto my server.  Do I need to install something like FileZilla on the server box to make it a REAL ftp?
I would like for this to work so any help would be appreciated.
       Turner

Thank you for the suggesstion.  I had the system working with an AC1900 router but had to replace the AC1900 with the WRT1900AC because the AC1900 kept getting hot and shutting off the wireless network.  I would think if it would work with one router, it should work with another.  I may put the AC1900 back on and check settings to see what I didn't get right.  I need to reset the AC1900 to remove my userid and password(s) anyway.
I have a source for checking your suggestion on WAN enabling the MediaSmart server.  I can check if that is possible.
Why isn't motion-sensed recording available like always-recording?  I don't understand why the two have to be so different.
    Thanks again,

  • Upgrading to iTunes 10.6.0.40 imports MPEG-4 movie files as "QuickTime movie file" not "MPEG-4 Video file"

Recently updated itunes to 10.6 and since then adding any new MPEG-4 Video file itunes is flagging as QuickTime.
This creates an issue since my Apple TV doesn't recognize these types of files in iTunes.
To validate it's the itune upgrade, previous "MPEG-4 Video file" entries added and played on Apple-TV were imported an now show as "QuickTime Video file"
    Thx

This problem has been resolved after the ATV update was received.
The ATV now recognizes the videos marked in itunes as Quick time eventhough they are Mpeg-4 video files.

I have an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes.
All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem. The movie in question is not 'corrupt' as you can watch it in iMovie direct from the SD card but as soon as you try to import it, it  just says 'error'. iIve tried moving the file to an external drive ( and other variations on this theme) then importing but have had no luck.
    Can anyone please help me.

    The mystery remains....
Thanks for the pointers. The file type is .mts (a proprietry sony one).
I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.
    Thanks
