LR 4.3 says drive is too full when there is 468GB remaining

I just started working with LR, importing photographs from my Nikon D800 folders and storing them on an External USB 3.0 WD 3TB drive (I drive).
I'm using LR4.3 Dell Optiplex 990 Intel Core i7-2600 CPU W 3.4GHz 16.0GB RAM Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, Storage 2TB Hitachi (E drive), 468GB available...
I've told LR to use drive I and I confirm in both LR and in Windows Explorer that that is what it is doing.
When importing, why does LR4.3 continuously tell me I have to delete files on my 'E' drive to "make room" the drive before LR can continue? The importing is being done to the I drive.
- thanks!

Hello Jim – thanks for your note. In response to your questions:
1.      No, I’m not using the “make second copy” option
2.      When I began using LR 4.3 the first catalogue was created on the E drive, which is resident in the Dell desktop. It was the original catalogue I used when first working with LR 2.0 etc. The OS and User files are on the C drive which is a 256GB SSD. For space reasons I recently moved all LR activity to the external USB 3TB drive and that is where the catalogues are now.
What you say regarding the E drive, which has 468GB remaining, makes academic sense concerning “20% space remaining”. What is slightly confusing is, LR constantly asked that I delete “20MB” to satisfy the Program’s needs for space. I think you’d agree that such a message doesn’t make sense in this day of huge TB drives when we’re talking factors of just over 10 in terms of space availability and Program requirements. All the same, I’ve “removed” the E drive and the catalogues from LRs “Folders” section and have only the external I drive doing the work with the catalogues. I will let you know if the message re-appears. I don’t expect it to for the reasons you’ve given but we’ll see. I hope this info helps.

My mac won't save to a flash drive. It always says the disc is full when there is plenty of space. Solution pls?

Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions,
Did you get the flash drive from a reliable source. There are some available on the net that show a large capacity but are only 512 mb. or 1 gb. drives that have been altered to display a much larger capacity.
    Good luck,
    Alan

  • Ipod Shuffle say's its half full when there are only 11 song's on it.help..

Ok i hav a 512mb ipod shuffle i was putting song's on for a friend then i quickly did my ipod after (same thing 512mb shuffle) what happen when i put my friend's in it came up with all my song's an after wen i removed all my songs it said his ipod was half full sumthing like 256mb already used but i no this isent right..so please help me sum1

    mrf_1989,
Are the songs you put on your firend's shuffle the same as the ones you tried to put on yours?
If not, then maybe you need to check the file format of the songs you tried to put on yours. If for some reason they are WAV files, this is your problem because WAV files are massive (~20-50MB each!)
If you find that they are WAV files, I'm sure you can google or ask someone with more knowledge than me how you can convert them back to mp3's.
If your WAV file songs were imported, you can just delete them and re-import them again but IMPORTANT:
Click edit>preferences>advanced>importing> and make sure the box next to 'import using' is NOT WAV encoder, but either mp3 or ACC.
    Hope this helps!

  • The current capture scratch drives are too full

I just downloaded this software on my Mac and I am captuing HD video from a Mini HDDV tape camera. I got a error message half way while captuing video
"the current capture scratch drives are too full. Please remove files from these drives or select a new capture scratch location."
How can I move forward with capturing video?

I just downloaded this software on my Mac
How so?  Final Cut Express has never been downloadable and was discontinued over 18 months ago.  Are you sure you didn't actually download Final Cut Pro X?
Also, it will help us to know exactly what model Mac you are using, what version of OS X, version of FCE and make/model camcorder you are using.

  • My video playback out...every video shakes/flashes/doesn't play right. What's wrong? I thought the hard drive was too full, but I just deleted 125gigs, rebooted and it still flashes and doesn't play videos. This is true for youtube, ads, foxnews videos...

My video playback out...every video shakes/flashes/doesn't play right. What's wrong? I thought the hard drive was too full, but I just deleted 125gigs, rebooted and it still flashes and doesn't play videos. This is true for youtube, ads, foxnews videos...

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?

  • Why does TimeMachine say the disk is full when it isn't?

    Hello!
A lot of my backups recently have been failing because TimeMachine says the disk is full, when that simply isn't true. As of right now, I have 1.18 TB available of
2 TB. Why do my backups fail even when sufficient space is there?
Thank you so much in advance!!!
    -Professor AR

    This main explanation is here.
    OS X Yosemite (10.10)
This is pretty much equivalent to kids talking to each other on tin cans over a wet string.
The TM in Yosemite is also exceedingly bug infested.
    The best solution for now..
    1. Use ethernet instead of wireless to do backups.
    2. If you upgrade installed Yosemite a clean install might improve it.
    3. Using local disk (USB drive plugged in for example) can be a huge improvement over networks and wireless.
    4. If you continued the backup from the old OS, wipe the TC disk and start over a new TM backup. (you can archive the old one if you want to maintain the history).
    5. Use an alternative to TM until apple get their act together.. eg Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper etc.

  • I am trying to restore my phone but everyone I go to do it, it goes to Update which takes 2 and a half hours, and everytime it fails. Ive tried four times now. I'm trying to restore because it says my memory is full, when it is not. I'm so frustrated.

I am trying to restore my phone, but when i go to do it on iTunes, it Updates to 4.3.3 however everytime the 2 and a half hour update finishes, it FAILS. So the update fails, and the restore fails. Its happened 4 ties.
Im trying to restore my phone, because it says my memory is full when its not and an online solution says to restore. I cant restore because it wont let me update.
Im so frustrated, i cant take any pictures, download any music or apps, and its really getting me down. Please can someone help.

This error generally indicates a hardware failure.  Bring the phone to Apple for evaluation.

  • Got a new MBP and old external hard drive is too full for backup

I just got a new MBP and got all my data migrated and everything. I plugged my external hard drive in to run a backup, and it apparently is too full to run a backup of the new computer.  Even though all the files are the same (mostly), I guess it's not going to overwrite anything because it's a new computer.  Should I just get a new backup drive and start fresh for this computer.  Should I reformat my old backup drive (and if so, how?)?  Advice?

You should always have two backups of all vital data in any regard. A good 1TB Toshiba USB is $65
If there is NOTHING on the external HD you cant lose, format in disk utility > erase > format MAC OSX extended journaled.
then apply a Time Machine backup to the old HD of your new computer. That will free of a great deal of space.
However you should still have a 2nd backup of data.  2 backups is 1, and 1 is none.

  • IMac hard drive getting too full

    Hi,
I have a beautiful 2008 27" iMac, which has served me well for years.  I still love it and would like to keep using it.  It came with a 500 GB hard drive.  I have recently purchased and connected a 2 TB "My Passport" external drive.  I have been doing back-ups through Time Machine.
Unfortunately, my hard drive has 400 GB of family photos and movie clips, thanks to our awesome iPhones.
Is there a way that I can move all of these pictures and movies to my external drive, while taking them off of my desktop iMac?
I don't want to take the chance of losing my photos.  I have a friend who bought extra space on the iCloud;  however, she told me once she filled that space, the older pictures and movies started dropping off in a "first in, first out" manner, losing them permanently (which hurts a lot, who wants to lose those precious children's baby pictures).
My computer has a DVD writer built in, but it doesn't seem to recognize blank writable DVD's anymore.  I'm assuming it is no longer working.  I tried to access it using "Disk Utility" but my computer is not recognizing the "Superdrive" (it's grey'ed out and not selectable).
I just upgraded my iMac to Yosemite, and I have a maxed out RAM of 4 GB.  I'm hoping by freeing up space on my computer, I will be able to put many more pictures to come as well as potentially speed it up.
    Please help.  Any suggestions?

Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a computer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto or Aperture, both have its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you are an iMovie/ Final Cut user, both apps have their own individual Trash location that needs to be emptied, too!
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
    http://www.omnigroup.com/more
    Also, Find Any File
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

  • I can't do any edits to my photoshop project because it says scratch disk is full when I have 50gb free!

My scratch disk is pointed to the C drive(the only drive I have at the moment). When I open photoshop it makes  a 64gb Temp file! that leaves me with 50gb free but whenever I go to make a change or add text it says scratch disk is full! Help please!!

    @Ronald,
I'm glad to know that you can get by on only 120 GB .  However, that's not my experience on Windows.  Admittedly, Mac and Mavericks in particular seem to manage memory a lot better than Win.  But I've been using PS since ver 4 and it's always been a huge memory drain.
In CS6, I'm finding my scratch disk often exceeds 100 GB.  I have dedicated almost 300 GB to mine and it's still not enough for everything I do. But I know how to manage my resources so I can get by on what I have until new computers arrive.

  • Response time too slow when there is competition in the same connector PCo

Dear all, I'm having a problem with using PCo 2.1.
I created all the conections in PCo with OSIsoft PI and when I create a TagQuery
on MII to get the values of a tag is not occur problem in response time.
But when I have another TagQuery or Transaction, which is collecting data at the same
time, sharing the same connector, the time response is very slow.
Using the UDS this problem does not happen.
So problem is that when there is competition in the same connector, the response time is extremely slow.
    Has anyone experienced this?
    Regards!

    Hi Udayan,
    Thanks again for attention,
I found this problem on the two MII versions, 12.0 and 12.1.
The UDS and PCo are on different servers and using different ports too.
I didn't find errors on netweaver about this, but I'll verify one more time.
On true, on version 12.0 of MII there is two connections with PI, one PCo and another UDS, that are using the same port. But this does not happen on the MII version 12.1, there I'm using different ports.
    Thank you very much!

  • Recovery drive (d) too full??

The storage capacity of my recovery drive (d) shows that it is almost full with 14.7 GB used space with a total capacity of 16.7 GB. This only leaves me with just over 1 GB remaining. Is this normal to be so full? If not, how can I remove un-needed data drom this drive? Also, how does this data get accumulated? I have searched all the recovery options I can think of and can't seem to find anything that might be causing my system to be performing backups to recovery that I have not programmed. I have cleared System Restore to just the most recent point. Cleaned System files, disk cleanup, etc. The D drive shows that it has been compressed to save space
I have 64bit HP Pavillion Desktop, running Windows 7 Premium. My C drive conversly has 37 GB of used space with 411 GB of free space remaining. I'd appreciate anyone shedding some light on this for me. For all I know, this condition may be completely normal.

    eyemchase,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
Don't worry about it.  Do not add anything, delete anything, or edit anything in Recovery.
The Recovery Partition is best and happy the way it is.
Recovery is used to restore your computer should it fail; the partition has within it all the tools necessary to rebuild the main Operating System the way it was when the computer was new and clean.
What is the Recovery (D Hard Drive?
    Commentary
Unless you really need to, I recommend that you do not remove the Recovery partition, that is, do not delete it.  Sometimes people do this after having made their Recovery discs (you have made your Recovery backups, right?) -- and then, these same people regret having removed the partition later.  Sometimes people delete the partition by accident before having  made their Recovery backups.  Sad.

  • My hard drive is TOO FULL - what can I delete ?

My 60 gb. hardrive is now down to 9 gb. and I was wondering what I can safely delete off of here that I don't need. I know the obvious - photos, itunes music & podcasts, etc. But I'm wondering about aliases, etc. or anything else that just hangs around on our machines that we don't need.
Somebody suggested diff. languages since I only speak English so I took those all out of my applications. Now I see that I get a scrambled up window in Appleworks when I've saved a document as Claris 4.0 and it opens it in Appleworks but it still opens. I DON'T want to delete ANYTHING that's going to cause me problems down the line!! I've saved all the languages I've deleted. Any ideas what I may have taken out of appleworks that causes that problem????
Looking forward to hearing from someone !!

You've taken action at the right time, many leave it too late.
You can use Monolingual (link) to remove unwanted languages.
I wouldn't recommend deleting things manually unless you know exactly what that file is, although you can use WhatSize (link) to find large files. Items like alias are so small on disk it's a relatively pointless exercise to spend much time looking for them.
You should consider a larger external firewire hard drive to allow you to store more data. You'll also be able to create duplicates of your valuable data.
    cheers

  • Why does TM say the target drive is too small, when it's not?

I have 100GB free on the firewire drive. The Mac HD, after excluding some folders and partitions, is 92GB. The TM backup starts and runs, but then the size of the backup progress bar keeps changing (reads, backing up 8GB of 8GB, then 8.1GB of 8.1GB, etc. It keeps growing...) Anyway, when it get to the end I get "TM quit unexpectedly because the size was too big" or some such nonsense. I have used this drive and set-up successfully many times, but now its acting up. Is there some 'rule' about having enough free space PLUS a certain amount of "extra?"
    Thanks!

    Yes, there is.
TM adds about 20% to what it's going to back up for workspace it will need on the destination disk/partition. Usually, it won't even start backing-up if here isn't enough room.
But your TM drive/partition should be 2-3 times the size of what it's backing-up, to allow for a reasonable "depth" of backups, so TM can keep copies of items you've deleted or changed (or that might have gotten corrupted) for a few weeks, at least.
And if you have other data on that drive, it needs to be in a separate partition, as TM works best with it's own, exclusive space.
There should be some better messages in your logs. Download the +Time Machine Buddy+ widget from: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/timemachinebuddy.html. It shows the messages from your logs for one TM backup run at a time, in a small window. Copy and post the messages here (be sure to get them all, as sometimes they overflow the small window).

  • Mac and Word say 2GB Flashdrive is full, when its not

All of a sudden, my 2GB Flashdrive is saying its full and Word will not let me save to it and I can't drag files into it. I know I've never put that much on it, nor have I deleted anything off of it.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Beth,
If it's Fat32/MS-DOS format you'll get a full error if there are too many files at root of the drive.
You'll need to remove/delete at least one item so you can make a folder, then move everything else to  that folder. Make more folders for newer things, as Folders have limit's also, just not as limited as the root... top level of the drive.
