LR 5.3 Black Screen in Edit

I just upgraded to LR 5.3. When I select all and delete rejected photos, upon return from deleting the photos, though I can see all the remaining photos in Library I get a black screen when I go to Edit.  The edit tools are grayed out.  If I quit LR and restart it, the problem is solved, at least for that iteration.

There are two factors that can contribute to the coordinates being displaced or not being applied. I'm assuming here that you are using gps4cam to generate a tracklog and applying the tracklog to the images.
1. The camera time must be in exact sync with the phone time, including time zones. If you forgot to adjust for daylight savings time, or if the clock on the EOS-M got reset, that could be one source of this issue.
2. When using GPS witha smart phone, sometimes wifi hotspots are used for "greater accuracy" but occasionally a hotspot may be associated with an incorrect location.
Based on your details above, and the fact that we just changed clocks last month, I'm betting on #1.
For what it's worth, I use my EOS-M with an Eye-Fi SD card and that will allow me to record GPS data directly into XMP data without the use of a separate tracker app. It does wear down the battery faster, though.

  • Aperture Black screen after edits...

After upgrading to Aperture 2.1 I have a strange thing:
After editing a picture the Screen turns completely black. The histogram displays only one spike.
Resizing the window brings back the Image, but the histogram remains only one spike.
    Thanks for help
    wok

It's a pretty common problem (do a search and you'll see some more topics regarding this). It happened again to me today for the first time in months. Except this time it wasn't the whole viewer but 3/4 of the viewer went black. Only things that were different today: I pressed i to remove the project pane, I straightened then cropped, I adjusted contrast. I rarely straighten and I rarely work without the project pane open. Also I was working while my MBP was not plugged in, and it was quite warm. Still can't really narrow down when it's going to happen.

  • Instead of rebuilding the entire batch of photos, can i rebuild only those that show black screen on edit?

i have been following the discussion on rebuilding the iPhoto files.  My problem only involves some of those just transferred from my camera.  Is it possible to 'rebuild' only selected photos?
    thanks.

    No.

  • Has anyone encountered an "exclamation  point" in a white circle centered on a black screen when trying to edit a photo?

Has anyone encountered an "exclamation point symbol" in a gray circle surrounded by a black screen when editing in iphoto?

    Yes.
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • WINDOWS BLACK SCREEN AFTER VM WARE DEMO PLEASE HELP

I tried installing VM Ware Fusion Demo. I could not use my wireless mouse and keyboard, now I can't even startup with Windows. I get a black screen. Please help!

Go into safemode and uninstall the Nvidia driver you have installed and after restarting the computer and allowing extra time for windows to install a default driver for the graphics, install the Windows 7 driver for your computer found in the Toshiba download page for your laptop.
If you have issues with the screen blacking out after doing that, follow the instructions found here and this will correct that.

I have all my media on an external hard drive and delete everything after I'm done with ( I empty all trash cans). My iMovie is now skipping when I try to edit and then the clips just go to a black screen and I can only hear the audio, this has been going on for a week and I don't know what to do?!? Any help?

Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller

  • Cannot edit a photo in Iphoto goes to a black screen

I can see my photos in the thumnail view but when I double click the image in EDIT mode it enlarges then goes to a black screen. It is not allow me to edit any more---after a few years of doing this. What can I do? I rebuilt it already. What next?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

MacBook Pro  / Mozilla Firefox / Netflix / Silverlight Update solved - DON'T DWNLOAD FROM NETFLIX
I solved this problem tonight. I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8. I know, it's old. But I love my Netflix and I recently noticed that Firefox plays Netflix much better.  Then I suddenly got this message that I needed to download the latest Silverlight - it only takes 30 seconds! - WRONG.   However, after much searching, I finally did the steps in order and it worked.
This was after repeatedly downloading Silverlight from the Netflix site without success.  So here's what I did:
    1. Went to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
    2. Followed the directions. I felt like such an idiot for not doing it right before.
    3. Go to your hard drive and search for "Silverlight" to locate ANY existing Silverlight files: .dmg, etc.
[also check your Libary/ Internet Plug-ins, but the above search is faster]
    4. Drag it all to the trash and empty it.
    5. Go back to the Get  Silverlight page and click on the Install on that page, not the Netflix site.
    6. Note the steps for Safari or Mozilla Firefox - I wanted Firefox, so I follwed those instructions.
    7. Once it's installed, close all the browsers and Restart that bad boy. Right away.
    8. Open a browser, go to Netflix and proceed to joyfully rot your brain with Netflix content. Yay!

  • None of the vertical pictures will import.  I don't even get the black screens so can't even try the edit option that others suggest.  Sounds like we all have to report it to apple to get a fix?????

I Cannot import any vertical pictures.  I don't even get a black screen and therefore can't edit.  After downloading from the camera the vertices pictures show with a red ! And won't import.  Sounds like we all have to report this to apple ....but anyone had same issue and how can I fix, we are on trip and need to clear the camera for more photos.

After updating with the latest software, when trying to edit a photo, it disappears (black screen) or screen is full of lines. • Black Screen when trying to edit

I have read other threads with this problem and posted, but no answers so thought I better start a new one. Hope I have included enough info so this situation can be fixed easily.
When sorting photos by title there are two identical photos showing - I don't remember a duplicate issue happening. In the info they are the identical filename, size, time etc. One opens in edit mode the other has a black screen.
I right clicked on each and for the one that shows up black, both the "show file" and "show original file" show up. When you click on "show file" there is nothing there - if you click on "show original file", folders come up, but not an individual file.
For one that shows in edit mode, when right clicking "show file" the file is there highlighted. The "show originalfile" is grayed out. In "show file" I did a "get info" on the highlighted file and it shows that it is in the iPhoto Library - Original Folder.
I went to the iPhoto library and clicked "show package info" and one of these duplicate files is there.
    Any ideas on what happened?
Can I just delete the duplicate file in iPhoto and problem solved?
I would rather not have to rebuild the library - if I have to - what if anything will I lose? (albums, slideshows, places, faces, anything?) I use Time Machine with an external dedicated drive but am not sure when this may have happened.
Just thought of one other thing. I did some work on this photo using Adobe Photoshop Elements. I could not do a simple save back to iPhoto due to the changes made - so I did a save-as to the desktop and then did a file import of that file and it is fine. I'm thinking now this may be a clue as to what might have caused all of this.

First I suggest you backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
This will not lost any albums, slideshows, faces or places. When that is done you can check those blank duplicates and delete them from the library. You'll still have the backup if the end result is not an improvement.

  • IPhoto gives black screen when I try to use Slideshow or Edit

    Hi:
I have a new Powerbook Pro with Snow Leopard and iLife 09. I can see all of my photos in the library, but when I try to go to full screen view, or try to edit a photo, I get a black screen. For the full screen view, the thumbnails are aligned at the top of the screen if I move the cursor there, but the screen remains black where the photo is supposed to be. I tried rebuilding the library (option + control when launching iPhoto), and deleted the iPhoto plist file in the library - preferences folder, but the problem persists.
    Thanks

Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. +*The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.+*

  • Iphoto- black screen by clicking edit

Every time I want to edit a picture, I get a black screen or the info sign ( white circle with i in the middle) I went to preferences, but could not figure out what the problem is. I am sure it is an easy fix! Who can help?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
