LR 5 - Edit in CS6 issue

Currently running iMac on OSX 10.9. Recently upgrade to LR 5 from LR 4 about indicates that I'm on version LR 5.4 and ACR 8.4. When I finish my adjustments in Lightroom and want to finish the image in CS6 I usually just go to the Photo/Edit in/Adobe Photoshop CS6, The file would then open up as a tiff in CS6. For some reason the files will no longer open up as a tiff but will stay in the raf format Nef for the nikon files or dng for others, In addition it doesn't seem as if the adjustments made in LR carried over. Also tried to open raw file directly from CS 6, Opened in the ACR processor but when finished they opened up in CS6 as net files not tiffs. I know it is not the camera format D800 as I have had not problem working with the files over the last year when I was on LR4. I just updated to LR5 and I don't recall initially having this problem. Been away for a week and now can not get the file to open up within CS6 as a tiff from either LR5.4 or from ACR 8.4 Preferences are set to open up as Tiff.

Hi John, thanks for that, I have done that but now that button is just greyed out with nothing happening. Will quit LR and close my computer and see if that solves the problem with the reset.

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. Lightroom 5 Edit in CS6 under Yosemite Doesn't Open the Image

I just upgraded to Yosemite. Doing that fixed a bunch or problems but seems to have created a new one. When I right click Edit In, I get the following results:
Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments everything works correctly, CS6 opens with the image
Edit a copy of the original, I get a new copy in LR, but no don't transfer into CS6 and if CS6 is already open the image isn't there
Edit Original CS6 opens without the image
Has anyone else had this experience? If so is there a fix?

Trying to solve a similar issue where none of the adjustments made in lightroom are carried forward into photoshop when using the edit in. The dialogue box with the various option as to use the Lightroom adjustments etc is missing. The file just opens up unadjusted in photoshop. Wondered if you had found the solution to your problem. I've gone through all the preferences for file handling, and for catalogue setting. Tried checking various tick boxes or unchecking only to find it makes no difference. Have uninstalled reinstalled several times all to no avail. Sounds similar to your problem in some ways hence why the message.

How to edit and save a file ( after edit in CS6 in LR) to keep it in LR collection where it was?

I understood that I could select a file from a LR collection, start editing it in LR then pass it to CS6 (I chose the option to make a copy and keep the LR changes) , makes the changes in CS6 and save it from CS6 (Saved it as a PSD file) .Afterwards I can see 2 files (one being the original file,the other the PSD file saved in CS6 in the original folder of the file, which is fine ) but the file seems to have disappeared from the LR collection. I am new to LR.

When you edit in CS6, do you do a "Save" or "Save As..."? You need to do a Save and not a "Save As..." You also can't change the file type from whatever it was when Lightroom created the file.
Works for me when I do it that way.

CS3 file will not open in CS3 after editing in CS6?!?

Pardon the exclamations but we're creative folks not techies. After editing a CS3 file in CS6 we are unable to open it in CS3. Looks like CS6 will only save back to CS4? So once edited in CS6 then I can no longer use CS3 to work with the files? Can anybody confirm this for me? We also tried to export to IDML but CS3 would not read it.

When you open an older version of InDesign file within a newer version and edit them, the older version of file is first converted using some required plugins of the newer version of InDesign and then a consolidated new file is generated including the required plugins. Now, if you try to open this newer version of file back in an older version, the older version of InDesign looks for the required plugins used to edit the file and fails because InDesign older version did not use those plugins to create your file.
Please let me know if that explanation helped understanding why this behavior occurs.

What edition of LR 5? What edition of ACR does PSCS 6 contain. If they are not parallel (same edition number x in [5 or 8].x ), is LR making a tiff or psd rendition of the image?

My jpg files from CR2 edits in CS6/CC are not being imported into LR5.

The file numbers are the same as original CR2 but have the jpg extension. TIFFS and PSDs seem ok. Can anybody help please?

That's kind of a broad question ... and there are many different approaches ... so I will explain my approach, and other people can explain their approach.
My approach is to assign keywords and optionally captions and titles and other metadata to all of your photos, and use those to organize and search. Then, it doesn't matter what folders things are located in, if you want to see all your pictures of Chicago, you simply click on the arrow to the far right of the keyword Chicago. You don't have to remember what folders to look in, and this works even if the photos are scattered in a dozen different folders. In addition, since photos must be in one and only one folder, that limits your ability to organize; but you can assign as many keywords as you'd like to a photo, so a single photo can have keywords "Chicago" "Zoo" "Elephant" "Vacation" "Illinois" "United States" etc.

But, if you will need all of your source media files to continue the edit,
you should consider using the Project Manager.
Trim or copy your project
By using the Project Manager, you will be continuing the edit
with the original media files and there will be no quality loss.
Be aware that once you have edited the project in CS6,
it will be problematic (but not impossible) to return to edit in CS5.5.

Hi. After migrating to a new iMac and uninstalling and reinstalling CS6 and LR5 I'm unable to Edit in CS6 from Lightroom. I'm greeted with a window saying Configuration problem and Error:1. Any advice please.

MMavericks required at least version 10.0.6. We're currently on 10.1.3. If you purchased the software the updates are free. You should also update to 10.9.5, the last version of Mavericks.

LR5.3 edit in CS6 13.0 gets file type wrong

In LR5.3 I have settings for edit in external app set to TIFF file format. When I edit custom file naming for this, it defaults to PSD and when edited in CS6 13.02 it is indeed PSD not TIFF and in custom naming I can't see how to change the default.

Basically, all you have to do is update the Application Manager (if your installation was like mine, I was still on v.6... it's up to v.9 now. Go here for the update: Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Macintosh : Adobe Application Manager and run it... when done, launch Photoshop and check for updates.
This is amazingly idiotic, I must add -- how does App Manager NOT update itself through the update process???

No export dialog when edit in CS6

When i am clicking rmb and choose edit in cs6 there is no export dialog like i had before ( export with lightroom settings, copy or original)

If Photoshop's Camera Raw matches or is more recent than Lightroom's Camera Raw equivalent, you won't get the message box you're expecting when you pass a raw file to PS. You will get that box if you pass a non-raw image file.
In your case, if PS is up-to-date, you won't see that box if you pass a CR2 file. PS will come up with the image showing all the LR edits.

I just upgraded to CS6 and Lightroom 4.2. LR4.2 sends photos to CS4, which I not longer have (nothing happens when I hit "Edit In"). How do I get LR 4.2 to send photos to be edited in CS6?

It's a dumb solution, but you will have to reinstall Lightroom. I know, because it happened to me. I installed Lightroom 4, then installed Photoshop CS6 before I removed Photoshop CS5. Unfortunately, I still have CS3 on my computer as well because it is part of the Creative Suite and I still use other applications. When I removed CS5 Lightroom made CS3 the default editor. And the only way I could fix it was to reinstall Lightroom.
