LR 5 keeps crashing when attempting to import

There are more times than not - when I try to import files into LR and it crashes. The error is generic in that it states "Lightroom Has Encountered a Problem" and then closes.
I'm not sure how to get it out of this cycle ..I've tried using other catalogs, etc .. to no avail.
What is causing this, and how to do I fix it?

I've been having crashing problems with iTunes for several months now. It only crashes on certain CD's (the same ones each time) and it happens on both of my disc drives. Like most other people with this problem, it started when my library reached 5-10 gigs. Some CD's will rip just fine, others will import very slowly. The problem CD's all imported normally on my older computer with earlier versions of iTunes. Here is a copy of my CD diagnostics:

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
