LR Causes Softness on Corner of Image

I have a very strange problem and am wondering if anybody else has seen this.
I am duplicating a painting using my Canon 5Dmk2 and some studio lights. I mounted the 22x28 inch painted canvas to a flat wall. I then mounted my camera on a tripod, perpendicular to the print and the same exact centerline. I used two soft boxes on opposite sides of the painting for even, non-reflective lighting. Then, I metered with a flash meter and shot the painting at 1/160s, f11, ISO 100. I got a perfect exposure. I even used Live View on my camera zoomed in tight to get a super accurate focus.
When I bring the image into LR4 (or LR3), the lower left hand corner was quite soft, but the rest of the image was tack sharp. I figured I screwed something up so I reshot the image. I remeasured everything to make sure all was flast, square, true, etc. Then, I shot the image with two very sharp lenses—Canon 100mm f2.8 macro, and Canon 70-200mm f4L lenses, both set at 100mm, f11, 1/160s, ISO 100.
When looking at the image on my camera LCD, even zoomed in to max close-up, the entire image is sharp. When I import it into LR, that corner goes soft again! At first it displays sharp, but as soon as the software zooms in, it goes soft and stays soft. I tried enabling and disabling Lens Correction, but that lower left hand corner remains soft no matter what I do. I really don't think it is the lens, camera alignment or the exposure, since it displays sharply on the camera's LCD when zoomed in tight. Both these lenses are very sharp, and besides, I left some headroom on all four edges to avoid possible softness or vignetting.
Any similar experiences? Any suggestions?
Thanks, Lou

In the Develop module hit the 'Reset' button at the bottom of the right panel. If the softness in the LLH corner is still there try a full-size export using 16bit depth and Pro PhotoRGB profile. Does the exported TIF file look the same as the raw file, if so check it in another application like Photoshop or an image viewer.
Try also shooting RAW+JPEG to see if just the raw file has the LLH corner softness. When viewing images using the camera's LCD you are looking at an in-camera created sRGB JPEG created from the raw image file. If the JPEG looks OK I suggest opening the raw CR2 files using Canon's Digital Photo Professional software (on CD with the camera) and see if you get the same results, or not.
These are just some suggestions to help pinpoint what is actually causing the problem. I've done hundreds of copy shots with my 5D MKII using a similar dual flash lighting setup with no issues in LR3, LR4, or LR4.1 RC.

  • Can't drag out the bottom right corner of image to resize

Hi, I'm running PS CS3 on Mac iBook with 10.5.8
I've been using this setup for years & have always been able to drag out the right bottom corner to increase the grey space round an image so i can transform better or what ever. But now when I try to drag out that corner the image window flinches slightly & a line appears around the image which disapears when I let go.
Also when I try to expand the layers palette down by dragging it's lower right cornes so I can see more layers nothing happens, there is no stripey corner marks on that corner & when i try click & try to drag nothing happens.
Thanks for any suggestions on how to be able to resize my windows again.

As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by keeping command-alt-shift pressed on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

  • Photoshop cc 2014 How to make one corner of image rounded

I wish to make an image with one or two rounded corners. Can some one explain how this is done or point me to a tutorial that works.

Now I see. You have to create a .png file with alpha channels enabled to have transparency on the corners.
First of all open you image. After that double-click on the Background layer on your layer window to be able to rename it. That will allow you to delete any part of it. After that make a curve with pan tool in the shape you want your round corner to be. After making the path right button -> make selection from path. After you selection is made hit delete. Save you image for web Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S and choose .PNG as a type of file you want to save.
    This is generally.
If you need details feel free to ask.

  • Lock icon appears at corner of image in folder

Can someone please tell me what a solid gold lock icon at the bottom left corner of the image shown in a folder means?

That's to show you that not everybody has access to those folders. For instance C:\Users\<your username> has a lock on it because other users don't have access to it. If you're on Vista/7 then C:\Documents and Settings has a lock on it and no user can access it because it's just a special type of link (a junction point) meant only for older programs that don't know that Vista/7 uses C:\Users now.

  • Icons in corner of image

In Aperture 3.1, how can I remove the iconic controls that block the lower right-hand corner of every image?

Note that in addition to "on/off" and "what" you control whether to show the metadata +superimposed over+ or else +lower on the page than+ your images. The check box controlling this metadata placement is at the bottom right of the Browser and Viewer Metadata settings dialog box:
{Added} Note, as well, that this checkbox is available on only four of the seven Browser and Viewer Metadata editing views, and that it is set individually for each of the four views for which it is available.

  • Need help diagnosing cause of printing issue w/ image distortion

Hello, I'm looking for some expert advice for my print issue with image distortion (see above) on my files once setup and proofed by my printer.
I have a large PSD background file out of photoshop (CMYK, 170mb psd) that is being placed into an InDesign document. No preflight errors, all correct SWOP cmyk settings, and I keep having issues where images distort on my printers proofs - they seem unable to explain the issue and can't offer any other suggestions beyond ("just try resaving/uploading again" which of course has an added fee with each upload...).
The files are all fine on our end: on-screen, on our cmyk proofs, and our saved PDFs/packaged files. But everytime our printer opens these they seem to have these distorted image problems - scrambled images (almost as if there was a ghosted transparent image in the distorted area), strange lines (see above, and color distortion (usually greens and pinks, see above).
Is this an issue with my settings/file formats? Maybe the issue lies on our printers end? I'll keep checking this throughout the day and provide quick answers to anyone who can help me get to the bottom of this.
Adobe forums have been a huge help in years past so I decided this was by best bet for a resolution from those who know more than myself (or my printer), thanks for taking the time to help!

  • Updating Acrobat 9.0 causes error "Acrobat.exe - Bad Image"

    Full error is:
    Acrobat.exe - Bad Image
C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\acrobat 9.0\acrobat\BIB.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
Running repair doesn't fix it, only un-installing it and re-installing from scratch. This happens on multiple machines with the same result. As soon as the update is ran it no longer opens and has the error.
I've tried manually updating it version to version starting at the first 9.1 release but I run into the same error after installing the first update. Uninstalling Acrobat after manually running the first update produced another error durring uninstallation. Error 1905.Module C:|Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\authplay.dll failed to unregister. HRESULT -2147220472. Contact your support personnel.
System is Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit running on a VDI in a box from Citrix. Version of Acrobat is Pro.
Any thoughts or ideas on this would be great, thanks.
    Joel

Are you running updates from the Help menu in Acrobat or by downloading the updates. When you have problems, it is probably best to try running the updates as downloads from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows. You will need to generally install the updates in order. You would reboot after the last update.

  • Help! Flag button is suddenly missing from corner of image in Aperture 3.

Aperture 3 restarted itself while I was editing and now the option to flag an image is no longer available, and there are no visible flags on images I flagged prior to this happening, although they still come up as flagged images when I choose to only view those images. Help!

In order to see the Flags and be able to apply them you must have them set to appear in your current Metadata Overlay.  It sounds as though you have changed to a different Overlay than the one you were using.
There are seven Metadata Overlays** -- each fully customizable.  Well worth taking the time to set up and learn how to change.  Full instructions are in the User Manual.  Click the icon on the Toolstrip Alastair has illustrated and select "Edit ... ".

  • After a few downloads, using "Save image as..." causes Firefox to download the image again even though its already on the screen.

You would think that having downloaded an image and displayed it on the screen, Firefox would be able to save the image to disk (using right-click, "Save image as...") without need of downloading it all over again. But that's exactly what it does after just a few image saves.
This can be both expensive and time consuming when I happen to be working via a mobile or dial-up connection, which is often.
    Any ideas?

As an addendum, the 10.6.8 OS has also been sluggish when I log in or out of my computer (my old PowerBook G4 boots faster after being off).  Otherwise, everything else seems normal.

  • Drowned iphone caused red light and mirrored image

Long story short: iphone in bucket left to dry for weeks. Now it will start but not charge properly. Planning on changing the battery so thats no biggie. Worse is the fact that the picture is mirrored or flipped and there is a small red indicator light just above the speaker that is lit...
Tried restoring the firmware to latest version but problem persists. Has anyone seen anything like this? I live overseas so apple repair is not an option... what can be done?

    Dear Nathan,
Thanks for your answer. It might be amber though for me is clerly red. I might be a little daltonic. Should it be blinking amber, what do I have to do? I tried to turn it on by pressin the button for some seconds and it didn't work out. It has been set in the dock for the last 6 hours and it has not changed neither the blinking nor the colour (be it red or amber).
    Don't know what to do.
    Thanks again,
    Juan

  • Picture control: stick image to corner

In a Picture Control, with the option "Stick image to corner" the image is sticked to the upper-left corner of the control.
Is there a way to select the corner to which the image is sticked (upper-left, bottom-left, upper-right, bottom-right)?
I've been thinking to this properties because I have some picture controls used as a background images, and I need the background isn't moved when I drag a splitter (see attachment)

Probably it would have been better if I had posted an uir file that shows the "real" situation of the project I've been working on.
As a matter of fact my application has a vertical splitter and two horizontal splitters:
I'd already tried several workarounds but I didn't find a solution for the bottom-right background image.
In the first post I attached a simple panel, but in this one I attached an uir that shows the issue of my application.
Is there any workaround for the bottom-right image?

  • Display profiles and soft proofing Windows RGB / Monitor RGB

This might have asked before, but I did not find any definite answer for this. Sorry this gets a bit long.
    Short question:
What's the difference between softproofing with Windows RGB and Monitor RGB targets? I see differences in my image between these targets.
    Long question(s):
Here's some reasoning.. let me know when I go wrong.
I have hardware calibrated my display Spyder 3 elite to sRGB standard. I have understood that the generated display profile contains a LUT table that affects gamma values for each RGB component, so that affects both gamma and color temperature. That table is loaded into video card when Windows starts. In addition to the LUT table, the display profile contains what? Probably information on what color space the display has been calibrated to. Does that matches directly with the LUT table information, but may deviate from sRGB in the case my monitor cannot reproduce sRGB 100%?
Now if I have image that that is in sRGB, but the embedded sRGB profile has been stripped away, should any non color management aware image viewer show the colors properly, if it is assumed that 1) my monitor can handle full sRGB space and 2) my monitor was succesfully calibrated to sRGB and the LUT table has been loaded into video card?
Or does it still require a color management aware program to show the image, which implies that the LUT table information alone is not enough and the display profile contains some extra information that is needed to show the image correctly? I would think this is true, as I needed to turn on color management in Canon Zoom Browser to see images in it the same way as in Photoshop.
Now to the original question, what's the difference in Photoshop when soft proofing with Windows RGB and Monitor RGB targets
    I read from www.gballard.net that
Photoshop can effectively "SoftProof" our web browser color:
Photoshop: View> Proof SetUp> Windows RGB
Photoshop's Soft Proof screen preview here simulates how unmanaged applications, web browsers, will display the file on 2.2 gamma monitors, based on the sRGB profile. If the file is based on sRGB and our monitor gamma is 2.2 and D/65 6500 degrees Kelvin, we should see very little shift here, which is the goal.
Photoshop: View> Proof SetUp> Monitor RGB
THIS IS WHERE the color-brightness-saturation problem will repeat consistantly.
Soft Proofing Monitor RGB here strips-ignores the embedded ICC profile and Assigns-Assumes-Applies the Monitor profile or color space.
The color and density changes seen here show the difference between the monitor profile and the source profile sRGB.
I'm not sure how to read that. Assume here that my monitor has been calibrated to sRGB and the PS working space sRGB. Do in both cases photoshop strip away color profile from the image at first? What happens after that? Does in Windows RGB case Photoshop pass the color values as they are to display? What does it do in "Monitor RGB" case then? Does it assign my monitor profile to the image? If it does, does there also happen conversion from one color space to another? In either one conversion there must happen as the soft proofing results are different. Does either one cause "double profiling" to the image as the monitor is already calibrated?
    Thanks

Windows defaults to sRGB if you don't calibrate your monitor so untagged sRGB files should display (more or less) correctly in applications that don't know about color management on systems with uncalibrated monitors.
When proofing against Windows RGB you're proofing against sRGB, it will show you how applications that don't know about color management on an uncalibrated monitor will show the image. This is what you proof against if you want to see how the image will display in web browsers.
When you proof against Monitor RGB, Photoshop will assign your monitor's icc profile to the image which tends to be utterly useless most of the time.

  • Choppy Blocky Images in Illustrator - HELP

When I open a high resolution image in Ai they look somewhat distorted and choppy. They are jpeg files that I am placing in order to envelope distort onto a mesh. For some reason any bitmap image I open with Ai looks like this. However, when I open the same image with Acrobat Pro or Ps the image looks perfect. Images are RGB in both apps.
Image in Ps or Acrobat                                                Image in Illustrator
There most be something in Illustrator that is causing this. Images are being embedded and cannot be linked since they need to be distorted. I am runnung CS6 on Intel iMac Maveriks
If anyone can help I would be truly greatful!
    Thanks in advance

Illustrator does not have as accurate a preview for bitmapped graphics. Usually the image jsut looks softer. Is the image scaled a large amount?
I suggest you print this, or do a save for web and view at 100% in photoshop.
I see your images are screenshot, cold you post the oriignal image, and tell us if the image looks bad prior to embedding & envelope distorting. You can also envelope distort or warp in photoshop, which I would recomend, unless you absolutley need to use make with top object.

  • Slideshow looks soft and not sharp enough

Slideshow with LR4 for raw and JPG files is not sharp enough (seems a bit soft or appears not enough resolution) when comparing to using ViewNX2 for NEF files or using photo explorer of Windows 7 (with plugin) for DNG files. The same result for a small notebook screen or a 42" 1080P display. Any one can provide help on this? What is your best way to conduct slideshow of raw files for the right resolution that meeting display size? I have set my standard preview size to 2048pixels and medium quality.

How are you are you playing the slideshow (i.e. inside LR using 'Play,' exported PDF or Video) and what type of template are you using? It's best to match the template aspect ratio to the target playback screen aspect ratio. For my 16:9 1920 x1080 monitor I use a custom 'Widescreen Template like this:
My previews are also set to 2048 pixels, medium quality and PDF slideshow exports are sharp. If you read the post I linked to you will see that LR on Windows 7 causes portrait images in the PDF slideshow to have jaggies, which actually appear onscreen as "over-sharpening." I rarely use the LR Slideshow module full-screen 'Play' function, but just checked it for comparison. You are correct, both landscape and portrait images in the LR full-screen slideshow 'Play' mode appear slightly softer than the Slideshow PDF export at 'Screen' resolution and 91 Quality. What is interesting is that there are no "jaggies" in portrait images when using the native LR slideshow 'Play' mode, so the images are being rendered differently than the slideshow 'Export' modes.
IMHO, the slideshow module has become an orphaned stepchild of LR with issues that Adobe has ignored since LR2. For the best possible rendering I'd use 'Export PDF Slideshow' using the target viewing screen resolution and 90+ Quality, but there is this caveat:
LR has at least three different implementation versions, concerning this LR Slideshow Module behavior:
                             Stroke Border      Portrait Images
Mac OS:           Causes softness    OK (no resample artifacts)
Windows Vista: No issues               Resample artifacts (jaggies)
Windows 7:       Causes softness    Resample artifacts (jaggies)
This was at least the case for LR3.6 and I'm pretty sure LR4.1 has the same issues.
