LR crash and catalog corrupt

During my absence LR5 must have crashed and the catalog some how got corrupted. A pop up window is telling me it is trying to restore LR, but that has been going for hours now and nothing is happening. I can't restart LR.

The title of the window is "Restoring Catalog"
It says: The catalog named "Lightroom 5 Catalog" was left in an inconsistent state. Lightroom must restore the catalog before proceeding.
This may take several minutes.
There is a progress bar below that, which does not show any progress. It's just showing the revolving barber shop bar
It"s been doing this for the last 3 hours. Obviously nothing is going to happen there.
Thanks dj

Final Cut Crashed and then corrupted the file. So Final cut wouldn't open up. I tried reloading the backup, trashing the prefs file, systematically going through the 3 previous versions and opening them by themselves one by one. I found Final Cut now loads but each of the backups and files in the previous 3 versions won't load. I've worked on the project for 3 weeks. Im suprised the backup files won't load either!?! I've only rendered 1 low res version. I am thinking I will have to rebuild the project in Final Cut 7. That is simply too risky to have all my back ups not load up!!

I'm a little confused by this?
Final cut now opens if launch older projects. But if I actually click on the project it crashes. Im not sure what you mean by events? I've moved them from the events folder.
but when I open up and of the projects the FInal Cut opens but then wont load the project even with no events in the FInal Cut Events folder.

  • Acrobat Pro X crash and file corruption

I'm having an issue with Acrobat Pro X. While I was using the touchup reading order tool to select a form field, Acrobat crashed. Now, when I attempt to open the file, I'm getting a message that states "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." I'm not sure how this occurred and I don't believe it was something I did since I was not doing anything out of the ordinary when it happened.
Is there any way around this issue that would allow me to open this file?

The file is corrupt. Either it was corrupt which caused the crash or the crash caused the corruption. But your file is toast. Best solution is to restore the file from backup.

  • Keynote crashes and then corrupts the file

I hoping somebody can help --- this is driving me crazy. When editing an existing document in Keynote 9.3 at some point it crashes and I have to force quit. When I restart my document is corrupted (the graphics thumbnails appear, but the graphisc on the pages are missing and I get an error message for nearly every graphic in the document).
I read where replacing the preferences file might help (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist) but I'm unable to even locate that preference file to delete it (I followed that path --- it's not there, and it doesn't appear in a system-wide search), but I'm not sure that would do the trick anyway.
I've found other people online with the same problem, but so far no one has ever come back to them with a solution. This is a large slideshow with nearly 300+ slides and embedded video clips (4GB total file size).
If anyone out there has any idea how to fix this, I would be thrilled (and very grateful).
    Many thanks in Advance.
    -Scott Kelby

Try this routine, it has been proven to correct many issues with Keynote so its worth a go:
1 - Remove keynote, (use Appcleaner from Mac Update to do this, it is freeware)
2 - Start up in safe mode (press shift key immediately after the start chime)
it will take longer to start up as the OS is being repaired
3 - When the Mac is fully booted, go to:   Applications > Utilities > Disk utility
click the System hard drive in the list > first aid tab > Repair Disc
    4 - Reboot normally
5 - re-install iWork and install updates for Keynote from: Apple Menu > Software update

  • Crashing and/or Corrupt Form

    Hi,
I'm working on a form that is constantly crashing and sometimes I lose the form completely.  I'm able to start over by keeping copies of it, however, the latest thing is it tells me that it was created in Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 in the Acrobat Properties, but when I try to open it in Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2, it is telling me that it is not created in Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2.
I have tried several times recreating the form from scratch and I still get the Debug error.
Is there something in the form that could make this happen?  I do have calculations and other scripts, but I don't think that it is all that complicated.  The file is 498KB big.  I have worked on forms much larger and don't seem to have this problem.
I've got my IT working on it, but I need to find an answer soon.
Can someone look at the form to see if there is something I'm doing wrong or provide any information that will help me fix this problem.
    Thanks!

    Hi Michelle,
Login to Acrobat.com. In the Top left corner you will see an option Upload. Click on that. Then select the file you want to upload. After the uploading is completed you will see an option will pop up which says Share the document. Click on that. Then click on Publish then click on publish it. An option will pop up which says copy link. Click on that, the link will automatically be copied. Paste the link over here.

  • Crashes and Video corruption

I'm not a first time Mac owner; I also own 2 Mini's, and iMac, and an iBook (between all members of the household). Therefore, I know what I'm experiencing is abnormal and am looking for help.
I've got two isses (not sure if they're related):
    1. Random crashes. The actual OS crashes (never saw this before), giving me options to report the error to Apple, or once it gave a gray screen asking me to hold the power button. In another thread I saw the suggestion of running the permission fix in the disk utility which I just did, so we'll see if that helps... I'll report back.
    2. The stranger problem is that I'm getting video corruption. I'm running a 30" ACD. I bought it new with the Mac Pro. After using the system for several hours all images will begin to be corrupted. It starts out as an odd halo, and then it's almost like the pixels just scatter loosely around where they should be... it's extremely difficult to explain and I cannot post a screenshot because it doesn't show up in screenshots. The fact that it doesn't show up in a screenshot leads me to believe it's not software... but would it more likely be the display, or the video card? I suppose it could be the driver...
Also, this corruption only seems to effect images... icons on the dock bar, my background, Safari tabs, etc etc. It does not effect text.
    Thoughts?

If you merged your home user library, that can cause problems. I would tend to suspect even iPod but probably not a UPS (and I won't even think of running w/o).

I try to drag a photo folder into lightroom 4 on my MAC, lightroom fails to open and a 'Corrupt Catalog Detected' screen pops up.  Clicking on 'repair catalog' does not work either.  Any suggestions?

I'll have to get a better instructor on deleting the preferences since when I've doen it in the past nothing is there when I open LR the catalog is gone. I assumed that was what was supposed to happen so I start importing all over again.  But that is a different issue...
The problem has been happening since at least the beta of 3 came out and I saw other posts back then saying they had similar issues but I assume it was a beta thing...  But since the full version came out and through each incremental change I haven't seen an improvement. If anything it has gotten a little worse with time.
I have to try to be careful to not be in a hurry and start clicking around in the catalog as it seems fragile until it has cataloged all the photos in the library. When starting you will see the numbers populate the folders very slowly and I try not to click on a folder that hasn't had the number of photos pop up yet. Also draging the slider down to see more of the cataloge can have the same affect and crash the system.
I wish I had more to go on.. I believe it may be a resources issue but as I went from 3-4 Gig I thought it would get better. I don't have big programs running but did have outlook and word running in the background along with firefox and chrome.
And yes it only happens on this HP desktop (it's 2+ yrs old) and may be showing it's age a bit. My laptop which has less resources doesn't have the issue.. I have them sharing the catalog. (not at the same time) just when I'm working in other places in the house.

  • 4k Pro Res crop/resize causing crash and corrupt recovery save

    Hello,
I am working on an edit of F55 XAVC 4k footage that has been turned into pro res 422 files for an offline edit.
The edit calls for a lot of split screen work, and when I resize or use the crop effect, put another layer underneath, and then try to move either layer forward or backward in the timeline, premiere always crashes. I could deal with this, but unfortunately premiere saves the project upon crashing, and when I open it again, it launches into the recovery file, which has the bug still present, which immediately causes premiere to crash.
Is there a way to turn off this recovery or auto save on crash feature? I just wish to open the file from the last point I manually saved it, but seem unable to do so.
Also, I have auto save set to save every three minutes but it does not save. Not sure why!
    Any help appreciated.

  • Mac Mini AppleHDADriver Crash and Kernel NOT finding directories

I have a mid 2010 mac mini, still under Applecare. I have been dealing with Apple support for 7 months now and cannot get a resolution to the problem other then their telling me it is software, not hardware.
I consistently get errors indicating the AppleHDADriver crashes and goes to an error handler. This happens 100's of times a second. Along with this error I get an error stating the kernel is unable to find a directory. Both these errors show up in the console log under 'kernel errors' and happen daily.
The result of the problem seems to be the status bar/system clock freezes and doesn't update. The clock freeze occurs mainly when coming out of sleep, but has also happened durning full operation of the machine.
It seems no matter what software I install, or what vendor it is from or even what the software is used for, something crashes, the system slows down and freezes... It was two days ago the system started with an unresponsive mouse.
Any ideas he would be great... I am tired of trying to get the Apple 'senior advisor' to truly talk solutions. I lost 100's of hours when this problem first occurred as it started with Snow Leopard. When doing a clean install of Lion as directed by Apple support it was discovered the old time machine files were corrupt and couldn't be used to restore...
Those errors in the kernel have been there from the beginning... Across Snow Leopard, Snow Leopard clean install, Lion upgrade, Lion clean install and still those kernel errors are there consistent. This should indicate a hardware problem someplace and not software...

Okay, I tried what you suggested and the list of information I found is shown below....
There is one set of ACL's it appears are not being repaired, they are on Apache files which I changed when I configured Apache so I could edit the files for configuration.
This error appears only when doing a full start:

Not sure what it all means, but clearly there were some persmission problems on the drive which were fixed and haven't appeared again as of yet.
Any clues on where to go next?

  • LR 1.3.1 crashes when catalog goes offline

Ok, this might be a rare occurrence - most won't ever see it - but when my 18 month old turns off my power strip before I catch him playing with it and my external hard drive goes down (the one with my catalog and photos on it) and LR is open (which it always is)... well let's just say that LR doesn't handle this very gracefully... it generates roughly 50 identical pop-ups saying "method not found: viewAttribute" and finally after clicking OK on all of those another dialog says "Lightroom encountered a problem... There was a problem reading one of the catalogs..." or something like that.
Of course, when I start it back up it has to go through a database integrity check and to its credit there is no corruption. However, it seems like LR should handle a catalog going offline without crashing and having to run an integrity check every single time. What if someone unplugged an external USB storing a live catalog before closing LR... there are other scenarios. Just a thought / something to add to the wish list.
And, yes, in the meantime, after this happening several times to me :) i am moving the power strip somewhere else.

There have been problems reported with Google Maps and Safari 1.3.2. Seems Google has change/upgrade its web code. The only work-arounds at the moment are use another Browser such as Firefox for the Maps, or upgrade to Tiger or Leopard.
As software code continues to evolve, Safari 1.3.2 is becoming more dated. Instances such as these in Safari 1.3.2 will become more frequent in the year ahead, especially as various sites adopt more advanced code.
    Other Browsers:
    Firefox 2.0.0.12
    Camino,
    Opera,
    Shiira,
    SeaMonkey
    OmniWeb (shareware).

  • Crash and crash again

Right after I trashed my render files--with fcp 6.02 open--fcp crashed and now whenever I try and open it, it crashes right at "Preparing video for display". I imagine trashing render files while fcp is open is not de rigeuer, but I've done it before no problem...
I tried fcp rescue, I have version 6.0, but fcp still crashed--is there a version 6.02?
Any ideas what to do or explanation for what happened?
    Thanks,
    lmr

    well, ok,
    let's see,
lets back up, what kind of media is this being used? Have you used before? camera/deck, capture settings, etc, is all that the same?
How large are these corrupt sequences?
Are there certain pieces of media in that sequence, (that you recall) were extra 'chuggy'?
Anything that required more rendering than others?
furthermore, what are you monitoring project on? external monitor? video card? is all that in check?
I feel like it may be a piece of bad media...
An XML export would allow you to export a sequence and all of it's edit decisions. You would then re-import into a new project file, and perhaps that would clear some issues. However, if it's bad media, (which I think it is), the problem will follow wherever you go.
*At any point PROS can speak up and correct me, b/c I am in no way professing that I am...a PRO*
You can also try starting a new user account on your MAC , then starting a new project- then the xml export-import.
I would also, try to find any questionable media, and bring that into your elimination process, see if you can't 'force' the issue\
Sorry if I'm all over the place--hope its somewhat understandable--good luck elmerlang
