LR displays "no preview available" upon import direct from camera after last update. How do I fix this?

I have the latest LR update with Nikon D700 and import directly from camera. I purchased a new CF card in case the old one was the problem but I get the same thing with the new card. Is there a bug in the last update or is this a problem with my equipment?

I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP! Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process. Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal. No flashing yellow screen anymore!!

I assume you mean the Nikon D810 because D800/800E support has been there since Lightroom 4.1
Currently, because it is a new camera (D810) the only support is in a RC of ACR 8.6 for Photoshop CS6 and CC, as the RC runs out on 31 August it is expected support will be there in the next dot release of Lightroom.
Current limitations are that only full sized NEF is supported.
If you wish to import to Lightroom 5.5. you will need to download the DNG Converter v8.6RC and convert the NEF files (full size RAW ony) to DNG then import into Lightroom 5.5

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see in the iPhoto window when iPhoto opens?
what fixes have you tried?
where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
Come on. Give us something to work with here.

Can't See RAW Previews Import Direct From Camera

Hi. I tried to import RAWs directly from a Canon XTi to LR 1.4.1 and couldn't see the images in the preview window. Is there a way to fix that? Thanks.

I wasn't really concerned about the speed. I rarely read more than one card (400 10MP RAW images) at a time. But will a card reader allow me to see the previews?

When I copy files from my camera to my C drive and import to PP there isn't any meta data when I import direct from camera it is available.

My camera is a Sony HDR-CX730 AVCHD format
Software is Windows 7 and CS6 Production Suite
When importing images direct from the camera all metadata such as dates, time etc is available in PP
When files are copied from the camera to C Drive on the computer and then imported into PP the metadata is lost.
What do I need to do?

Thought it might have been the case. My GH3 also shoots both AVCHD and MOV/H.264 files. With the GH3, the AVCHD is both more complicated (on account of the folder structure) and a slight bit noisier ... with no other image quality gain. So I've done as most folks, shot really only the MOV with it.
But that first bit of shooting with it ... um ... naive, shall we say? ... after 35+ years of pro stills portrait shooting, and more than a decade totally digital, well ... yea, I just grabbed the image files too. As do an awful lot of people. A very common thing to solve around here!

AVCHD 1080 Import direct from Cam

Gibt es eine Möglichkeit wie beim MAC die Videos in Full-HD direkt zu importieren um sie auf dem iPad zumindest zu schneiden? Die finale Bearbeitung möchte ich auch weiterhin auf dem MAC machen. It's a shame, but there's no way of directly importing avchd files directly to the ipad. They have to be imported onto a MacBook, iMac or Mac mini and then converted. If your camera supports recording in mp4 or mov format then it can be transferred, but only in 30p which doesn't really give you that nice film look. My canon 5d records in mov format only and it easily transfers directly onto the ipad, but my sony nex will only transfer directly if I choose the mp4 format for recoding in the image size menu. If only sony allowed for recording in 60p and 24p in mp4 formats..... Sigh.... And on we wait....

Question 1-maybe so . What you have is called "screen burn in" and might be the result of having the same image left on a screen for a long period of time. See if running a screensaver or something else that has moving images will erase it, or lessen it *
Question 2- yes, if Apple deems that the problem is serious enough that the only way to fix it is to replace your Macbook Pro. otherwise, it will repair

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

HT4527 I completed all of the steps to transfer my library from one computer to another through home sharing, but the "Import" button is faded like I cannot use it and it won't let me import and complete the final step. How do I fix this?

Nothing in the instructions about transferring via "HomeSharing" states to use the Import button.
Have you actually read the instructions?
What specific step are you having an issue with?
The article from which your question was posted provides details on how to transfer the iTunes library multiple ways, did you try one of the other methods?

LR5 will not let me import, keeps locking up in develop mode, how do I fix this?

About a week ago LR5 started working very slowly in the develop module. Then it started locking up while doing edits or toggling from one view to the other forcing me to repeatedly close and reopen it. Then, it failed to complete an import. Now, it won't do an import at all.

Thanks for the question. It sounds like the album has been synced to your iPhone from iTunes. To delete synced photos, you’ll want to uncheck the album in iTunes:

My Facebook home page will not display my profile photo in Firefox but still does in IE. How can I fix this?

Since installing the new Firebox I have been unable to get my Facebook profile photo to appear. The same goes for the profile pics of FB friends in the chat list.

You can use these steps to check if images are blocked:
* Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
* Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
* Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
* Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
* Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.
* If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

I have been trying to update settings to allow my aol mail to automatically refresh when new messages come in, vs having to click on the "inbox" in order to view new messages. Raw files missing in import direct from canon eos 350D

Hi,
I realise that files missing for import is fairly common, but I still haven't been able to find a reason. I can load jpg and cr2 from a folder no problem, but when I attach the camera, using the latest canon WIA driver on windows xp, the window that comes up shows only the jpgs on my camera. I realise that a workaround is to get the files on the pc and import from there, but I don't have my canon software anymore to do that, and besides, I'm using the trial version to decide whether or not to buy. Is this a LR problem? a canon one? and is there a fix in the pipeline?
Apart from that, really like the product.

There was a problem with version 1.0 about importing JPG's and RAW's because although they have a different suffix i.e. JPG or CR2 they have the same file name. LR, as primarily a RAW converter sees these as one and the same file and only imported the RAW file. The work round for this was to rename the JPG's slightly outside of LR using a name that you could yourself identify with the original RAW e.g. RAW 0000001.crs with the JPG being renamed to 0000001A.JPG followed by Importing. I had thought they had cured this with the update but as I don't shoot JPG + RAW haven't tried this for myself. What's strange about your post though, is that if memory serves me correctly the problem lay not in the Importing of the RAW file but in the JPG file as described above. Perhaps someone with more up to date knowledge of this will jump in here.
The importing directly from the camera I referred to earlier was a known problem with Canon cameras - perhaps something to do with the folder structure although I couldn't swear to it. Hence the reference to using a Card Reader. In any event downloading from a Card Reader is faster as I'm sure you know.
If you right click and explore the Card you'll find that not all of the files are empty. The top folder will be something like DCM and by double clicking on this top folder it will open up the others.

The images i have now i can not use after lightroom has automatically altered them even if i try editing back to how they looked upon import

First thing to do is to change the default camera profile applied in Lightroom to camera standard (assuming that you shoot Canon or Nikon). Also make sure that your camera is NOT set up to use any of the HDR modes. Nikon calls those Active Dynamic Lighting. On Canons you often see things like highlight priority mode or "Auto Lighting Optimizer". Make sure that the picture style is set to standard and that for newer Canons the HDR mode is turned off. Most of the HDR modes simply underexpose the image and then add an instruction in the raw file to compensate for this to prevent highlights from being blown out. This causes more noise in the shadows and if you know what you are doing there is no point to this as you should simply expose correctly and get the highest quality raw.
Lastly, make sure that in Lightroom you have not checked "Apply Auto Tone Adjustments" in Preferences->Presets. This should make the default rendering of the raw files the same as the in-camera jpeg (what the camera shows on the back even if you shoot raw) but still give you all the latitude of raw files.
