LR, dual displays, Photoshop and Win7 (solved)

I've been reading all morning and this is what I think I now know:
Photoshop will use discrete monitor profiles to properly display images on either monitor of a calibrated and profiled dual monitor setup.
Lightroom (and, apparently, Bridge according to some people) uses only the profile associated with the primary display and so the images displayed on the secondary monitor are not properly color managed.
I hope I'm incorrect about that last point and that LR 4 behaves the same as Photoshop with regard to dual monitors and color profiles. Anyone know for sure?
Edit: Never mind. I found a whacked profile for testing purposes. It appears LR and Bridge handle discrete profiles just as well as Photoshop.

This is the way I work:<br /><br />Don't use Lightroom in a full screen window but enlarge the Lightroom Window <br />from the leftside of monitor one into the right-hand side monitor, but just <br />the right panel visable on monitor 2.<br /><br />If you hit the F6 and F7 keys the left- and bottompanels disappear and you <br />have allmost a full screen to work with, and the devolop panel remains on <br />the richt-hand side on monitor 2.<br /><br />Just try, it works complete well at me.<br /><br />gr. • Dual display color and other related issues...

I have posted this on painter forums, though some of the issues coming together here are directly related to issues w/ Snow Leopard and dual displays. Thought I would try here....
This is so bizarre. When I ever I run P11(I think this is going on in P10 too?) w/ the OS X (snow leopard, 10.6.2 on quad core Intel Xeon Mac Pro, 10 GB of RAM) menu bar on my Eizo(making it the main display), and the Apple Cinema display left as the #2 monitor, I get very annoying brush cursor artifcats left randomly on the Eizo screen after strokes. One cannot predict when the cursor will leave it's gray "marks", but it will do it, sometimes 5 strokes in a row, sometimes after 15 strokes or so? If I move my brush back over them, or change the image percantage view, they vanish, obviously new ones coming back, as I work.
However I put the OS menu bar on the AC display, yet work back on the Eizo, this does NOT happen. No cursor artifacts. Well, at least I can summon the issue
The reason I am doing this is Snow Leopard has bad color issues w/ dual displays (well documented, much to Photoshop CS4 users frustrations, and mine). Apple needs to fix it... but for me to see the right color on the Eizo(this is my main color and superior display), it needs to be the main monitor(menu bar) in 10.6.2.
So, you can see my trap - Accurate color, or annoying cursor artifacts left on the screen (sorry, it really bugs me as I work) as I work in Painter.
Attempted fixes: Trashed all of Painter's prefs, all of Wacom's Intuos 4(latest driver) prefs and software, switched plug ins on the back of the mac for the displays(lots of restarts), ran cache cleaning Cocktail and DiskWarrior, etc. -- no change, as I can duplicate the issue w/ the above set up. A sidebar or maybe be very related note: I have an iMac w/ max amount of ram (model not very old -- maybe 1 or 2 old) and I have had a long standing issue working on the iMacs we have had w/ this brush cursor artifact problem (in Leopard and Snow Leopard). I am on one monitor w/ the iMac, so you know here the menu bar is...hmmmmmmmm.....?
    Thanks!, T

  • Imac, dual display, photoshop cs5

    Hi
Quite a few things floating around the net how glossy displays, lion etc fail to work with Photoshop CS5
Myself, find that people over exagerating a bit. Yes, there are a few problems with lion and color matching..
Anyway, me being happy with all those aspects just got a new 27 LED cinema display and was wondering what's the best way to go about making it work with this set up (iMac 27, quite a recent model not sure on specifics but don't think it maters, 27 LED cinema display, Lion 10.7.1, Photoshop CS5).
    Specific questions:
is there need to calibrate the monitors? (i tried with apple native calibrator didn't seem to make a lot difference, just a tiny bit lighter) so forget or get a hardware calibrator?
how to match profiles for 2 screens, i know its almost impossible to get the perfect match, but still how would be right to treat it?
and last but not least what color settings to run in photoshop is the most suitable?
    Thanks
    Pavel

    Hi macboydesign
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    Lots of practice!
Not included in the current lists there were a dozen other DYI profiles between the iMac and LG that were so bad, I had to delete them.
The following article is dated, but has some great tips and info:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com/colorsync-display/colorsync_1.htm
Oh' almost forgot to mention, uncheck that box "Show profiles for this display only" and try some of those sRGB and RGB profiles to see if you can get closer that away.

  • Dual Booting Windows and Arch (SOLVED!)

Hello all, I'm having trouble getting a windows partition activated again. (Windows was on here for many years, then I installed arch on a separate partition.)
Here is the layout of fdisk -l:
    Disk /dev/sda: 100.0 GB, 100030242816 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 12161 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
    Disk identifier: 0x00000000
Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
    /dev/sda1   *           1        7833    62918541    7  HPFS/NTFS
    /dev/sda2            7834       12039    33784695   83  Linux
    /dev/sda3           12040       12161      979965   82  Linux swap / Solaris
sda1 is the windows partition, and sda2 is the arch partition. The linux partition SHOULD be primary bootable (have the * next to it),but all my attempts to do this have failed. (I've used "testdisk" to change the flags, but for some reason it keeps reverting back to setting sda 1 as primary bootable after a reboot or 2).
This is the pertinent section of /boot/grub/menu.lst:
    title  Arch Linux
    root   (hd0,1)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/f3be3baa-3b62-460c-8801-64b0b1cca$
    initrd /boot/kernel26.img
    # (1) Arch Linux
    title  Arch Linux Fallback

    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/f3be3baa-3b62-460c-8801-64b0b1cca$
    initrd /boot/kernel26-fallback.img
    # (1) Windows
    title Windows XP
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    makeactive
    chainloader +1
I have a . . . modified . . . copy of XP Professional, which comes with a recovery console to reinstall the MBR if it's necessary.
From what I've researched, I somehow need to reinstall grub to the second partition, make the second partition primary bootable, then rewrite the MBR on the first partition, and correct any command errors in menu.lst, but I haven't really figure out a way to do it.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I read up on some documentation of installing GRUB to the MBR.
So far, I went into ArchLive (from the cd) and did the following
    grub> root (hd0,1)
    grub> setup (hd0)
The installation reports success with no errors, but the problem persists. Arch linux will boot fine, but when I select XP it flashes my configuration, like so:
    title Windows XP
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    makeactive
    chainloader +1
then kicks me back to the OS select GRUB screen. Did I install it to the wrong place?
    EDIT:
I decided to issue this command:
    grub> setup(hd0,1)
It reported some errors, then arch couldn't mount the ntfs partition because of possible MFT cluster errors.
Using testdisk, I repaired the boot sector and MFT clusters, then using ArchLive reinstalled grub with grub>(hd0)
Arch and Arch Fallback will boot correctly, but now the windows side shows an error:
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    makeactive
    chainloader +1
Loading stage2Read Error (or something to this extent)
I wonder if this error brings me closer or farther to a solution?
Thanks for the replies so far!

  • 10.5.1 and dual display bug

I have been using my MacBook Core Duo (graphics card GMA 950) connected to a projector in dual display mode for over a year. After upgrading from 10.5 to 10.5.1, the macbook can function in mirror mode, but the projector does not receive a signal for dual display unless I restart the computer. The problem is consistent even though the projector has not changed.
Normally I plug in and the laptop screen changes to blue, then changes to dual display mode and sends a signal to the projector. Now, when I connect to the projector, the projector signal is black. I can switch to mirror mode using either F7 or via the Display preferences but there is no way to obtain dual display mode. Once I reboot, the problem is solved. This has been going on daily, each time with the same solution.

I get dozens of the "ACL found but not expected ..." messages, all on the contents of System/Library/User Templates/. When I go to System/Library/ in Finder, only the User Templates folder has a red icon on it, indicating that I do not have access to it (when logged in as an admin). The icon does not appear on any of the other folders in System/Library. Does anyone have any idea on what's going on?

  • SX20 Dual displays- How to mirror

    Hi,
I have several SX 20s with dual display licenses and 2 displays installed.
I want both displays to show the same thing with both video and presentation shown on each display.
I've tried setting the same role on both monitors with no luck.

    Hi,
I tired the settings you suggest with no luck. I'm running 7.3.2
When not in a call I see video and content on monitor 1 and a clock and booking info on monitor 2
When in a call I see content and video on monitor 1 and a black screen on monitor 2.
    Thanks,

  • IMac ghost display problems (and apple technicians weren't able to solve)

    Hi,
So my problem here is quite weird. I tried researching the forum for something like this, but nothing really came close to whats happening to my iMac.
I have an Intel-Based iMac, 24 inch screen.
I bought it on 2008. Since late 2008/early 2009, i had these weird "letters" underneath all my pictures. I work with photography/video editing, so this was very annoying, yet i kept ignoring, since the rest was working fine.
Then slowly the iMac ran slower, more sluggish-y. Like if all life was sucked out of it, sort of description.
Then, 2 months ago, there was a total failure of the HD. I was lucky to be able to back up all, before it didnt let me even enter the computer. It would just think for hours.
I brought it to the technical support near to my home, and i also told them about those weird "letters" on the left side of my screen. They said it was due to my hard disk, and i was, ok...since the hard disk had a failure.
They did a check up, and yep, the hard disk was k.o, evidently. They replaced the hard disk, and told me all was fine.
It did "seem" fine for the first couple days. No more running slow, no weird letters that would distort my pictures (for example, i could see my iTunes music list underneath a picture i was working on photoshop, or a video i was displaying!).
After a couple of days...same story started again. The left side of the screen was flooded by all underneath (open windows, the desktop icons, the texts i had open on safari, basically anything would appear translucently underneath any image or video i would open). Then, flash player would crash every 3 videos, blank cd's would get automatically ejected so i couldnt burn any cd, computer would run slow etc... etc...
So i cleaned up my computer, did a back up, erased all, and ready to bring it up to technical support again. And misteriously, all symptoms disappeared. So i explained to them what happened, and they said probably it was the graphic card.
I thought finally my problem was solved.
24 hrs later, i got an email that my computer was fixed. That it was only a hard disk "permits" issue, and they solved it.
I have had the computer for 3 days, and the screen problem is starting again, and now the permits are perfectly fine in my computer, and nothing comes out as wrong in the diagnostics tool!!!!
I didnt even work with the computer, but now i can see my itunes list through the safari window, as grey letters....kinda 3D, popping out. Its very weird. And i cant capture it because when i take a screen capture, it all appears fine.
Left side of screen is the affected. And no, its not a condensation issue.
Also, i can see some lines when i start up the computer. On the grey screen portion of the start up.
I dont know what it can be anymore. I know this is a long post, but i had to explain all what happened to it.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

You might want to clean up your profile. An iMac G5 will not run Mac OS X 10.6.4!
My experience with things appearing on screen but not in a screen capture is that it is on the display itself and not involving the GPU.
I think that you have image persistence, similar to CRT burn in. It is caused by having the same image appear in the same location over long periods of time, like a Safari window always in the same location, or an iTunes window, etc. The pixels get stuck showing that image.
There are different little apps that folks have developed to get the pixels unstuck. Google LCD image persistence and you can find a number of them.

  • T410/T510 and Dual Displays

I'm looking at the T410 or T510 for my wife for her business.  I wanted to try and set her up with dual displays (either the laptop LCD itself plus one display or two physical displays.  Is there anything I need to be aware of in regards to a dock solution or a discrete graphics card if I'm thinking of dual displays?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1) the integrated only option supports a max of 2 display by itself, so either 2 external LCD and no internal LCD. Or 1 external and 1 internal.
    2) the optimus nvidia gpu supports up to 4 LCD.

  • Setting Photoshop monitor profiles when using dual displays?

I'm using a Macbook Pro connected to an Apple Cinema Display under OS 10.5.8. Both monitors are calibrated and I export from Lightroom to Photoshop in ProPhoto. The Photoshop working colour space is also ProPhoto so there is no mismatch there.
When in dual display mode I like to have my Photoshop application on the Macbook screen and the photo I'm working on shown on the Cinema Display. In fact, I couldn't work any other way because the laptop's screen is not at all suitable for precision work.
I noticed that when I send an image from Lightroom to Photoshop CS4 for further editing the colours were off in Photoshop. This lead me to check the monitor profile used by Photoshop and I saw it was using the Macbook Pro .icc profile. This seems to be used even if the image is displayed in the external display. Selecting the Cinema Display as "default" in ColorSync doesn't change the situation. As a result, the colours as displayed by Photoshop are incorrect.
The only "solution" I have found is to either go to System Preferences > Displays  and select the external monitor as the principal one (which is inconvenient because it negates many of the advantages of using dual monitors) or setting the Cinema Display's .icc profile for the Macbook Pro as well (which makes it the one chosen by Photoshop but means I'm only working wiht one correctly calibrated monitor).
Is there a solution to this problem? Ideally I want to have both my monitors calibrated and Photoshop detect which one I'm using to view my photo. Failing that, I would like to have both monitors calibrated and "tell" Photoshop to use the Cinema Display as the principal monitor.I don't want .
    Many thanks!

    Thanks for your reply!
I'm not too worried about 10.6 because I'm not using it ( I reverted to 10.5.8 precisely because of the colour issues).
I don't really understand your reply. My problem is that if Photoshop uses my Mabook Pro profile as the "monitor profile" my pictures - as displayed on the Cinema Display - look different in Lightroom and in Photoshop. It's as if Lightroom is "aware" of which of the two displays is being used whereas Photoshop can only deal with one at a time. I would like to know if this analysis is correct and what I can do so that Photoshop displays my photographs the same way as Lightroom does on each of my two displays.

  • Dual display and VRAM usage.

Hi, back in the days I wanted a 12" iBook but couldn't afford one, last autumn thought I decided to get a Macbook Pro, the update came and...
    .. it had 128MB vram.
I want to use dual screen and maybe even occasional gaming, I couldn't decide if this where sufficient for my needs or not so I waited for the june update.
The mid-07 MBP arrived and, it had 128MB vram AGAIN!
Why oh why Apple? Oh, don't answer that, it's because you're in bed with Intel and want to force feed us useless highest end CPUs. But all I care for is the VRAM, why do I have to pay a ****-of-a-lot for a 1/11th faster CPU?
Anyway, I tried to decide if I should "bit the sour Apple" and get the mid modell or just get the low one because that one is much more price worthy. A few days ago I ordered the low end one.
But then I've seen on barefeats that he says that a 30" ACD display would use 128MB vram of the 256MB vram modell, are vram always splitted between displays in OS X?
You see, if the extra 20" 1680x1050 display only use 1680x1050x(3 or 4) bytes that is ok, maybe even if it's double buffered (is it?), because then I will probably have like 100MB vram left for all my windows and for desktop usage that is probably ok. But if the vram is shared between displays and my 20" which I will use most only get 64MB vram that's quite low.
I know I can turn of the sleeping capabilities of the MBP and shut the lid and only use one screen but that's a quite lame solution.
I hate how Apple does this, and it seems to worry a lot of people. Some get the more expensive modell and hate that they had to do it, some doesn't, and some don't buy a machine at all .. I would probably have stayed in the last crowd.
256MB vram can't have cost them many tens of dollars, why not have that in all modells? Why is the middle one even needed? Just make 2.4GHz CPU and option in that case.
Anyway, does anyone know how much vram my screen will have available? Will 128MB work for me with all the regular desktop apps I will have running? Or should I really go with the 256MB one? The tricky part is that my MBP might be shipped today or similair.
I've called Apple support three times but noone of them knows how this works so they aren't for much help.
(Dell vostro 1500 sells here in Sweden for less than half the price of the mid MBP and comes way more balanced, you can even get a 1680x1050 screen. Sure it has 2.0GHz CPUs or whatever but I don't care about that. Where is the old "omg MHz myth"-Apple? Please understand CPU speed isn't everything. Instead of leading the MHz myth fight it ;D, start calling the CPUs T7300 and so on aswell ;D)

Hi Johan, actually the VRAM used by OS X is likely to be quite a bit more than just your screen resolution multiplied by 3 or 4, since each open window is composited offscreen for the shadow effects and for things like zooming (Ctrl-Mousewheel) and the "Genie effect".
I'm pretty sure the total VRAM isn't divided in half for each of the two displays though, as it will be allocated from the video driver on an as-needed basis. In practice, with both displays active and a few windows open, you should still have maybe 80-90% of your VRAM available for applications.
Games and other VRAM-heavy applications are a special case as these will typically use as much VRAM as you can give them, and swap out to system RAM via the PCI-X bus when they need more (and unlike swapping to disk, swapping into VRAM from system RAM is still pretty fast).

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • How do I use dual displays to have a full screen app on one monitor and another full screen app or the desktop on the other?

How do I use dual displays to have a full screen app on one monitor and another full screen app or the desktop on the other?
I want to have my itunes visualizer on my TV which is connected via HDMI adapter, and still have access to full screen itunes and my desktop on the main display.
Any suggestions?  App downloads that can do this?  Please let me know.

You can't do it.  This has been an issue since Lion.

  • Dual Displays and Windows XP

    Hello,
I have a MBP with the Radeon X1600 graphics card. Under OS X I can run dual displays without a problem, either extended or mirrored. Using Bootcamp to boot to Win XP, I can only get the 2nd monitor to run extended, I can't get it to run mirrored. What really drives me nuts (short trip) is that I have run it in mirrored mode before when I teach. I go to the Display dialog box and "see" both monitors, but the only way I can get anything now on the 2nd is to run extended? I could update Radeon driver on the Windows side, but I thought BootCamp took care of that and I don't want to mess up my laptop?

It is definitely best to reinstall anytime you make a major system change. You will have to do at least a windows repair although I am not sure if it will fully enable the dual core.
    Good Luck

I have Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom on my MacBook Pro laptop. I bought an iMac and I'd like to move my installations to the larger display desktop for editing purposes. How can I go about transferring them?

I have the same question. It seems that Adobe is almost impossible to contact (I ended up here at the forums to ask the same question).
I will never buy another Adobe product again if I can get another program to replace it. If this is customer service then it is NON EXISTENT!
I notice that your question has not been answered and why should you have to get the information from a forum? I know of no other company that makes you do this for simple product information.
NOT HAPPY with this version of arrogant customer service (nor am I happy about renting Photoshop products into the future - it is just a money grab in my opinion). I will be voting with my feet and going elsewhere in future.

  • Is it possible to run dual display monitors on a KVM switch between my mac mini and a PC desktop?

I have two 23" monitors utilizing DVI that I currently have plugged into my PC desktop.  I'd like to purchase the mac mini and utilize the same monitors for both systems and switch back and forth between the two.  So, I'm wondering if it's possible.  The only two hangups I can anticipate is dual display capability on the mini (I expect that some adapter will be necessary), keyboard compatibility between the two systems, and finding a switch that will handle all the above.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I think this video could help you
