LR fails to see files for importing - LR is ONE frustrating program

After doing a shoot and importing raw files into a new LR library folder, I open some of the files in PS and make a few edits, save as jpegs in the current folder. I understand now that LR is not very intelligent, and doesn't recognize the new jpegs (see earlier thread discussing LR inability to do this). LR apparently requires me to re-import the folder so that it can recognize the new jpegs. So I do an import of the existing LR library folder. Because LR is not very intelligent and doesn't realize that the selected folder is the one I want to import, I have to navigate a long directory structure to select the folder and click the choose command. For some reason LR only recognizes some of the jpegs that were added (in a previous situation it doesn't recognize the jpeg it created using the LR export command) and fails to add a large number of jpegs during the importing process.
What is happening? Not only does LR make it much more complex to accomplish such a simple straightforward worklow operation, but it doesn't even succeed in executing its own commands.
I find LR increasingly more frustrating as simple straightforward workflow procedures involving file management and printing have now been made complicated. I am not a novice computer user. I teach photography at the college level, do commercial photography and graphic arts work, and would be considered a very experienced computer user, the type that other people rely upon to answer questions and trouble shoot.

Pamela, This is one frustrating thing about Adobe, I think they cripple products to force you to purchase other ones. I use PS and InDesign, and it is obvious they have purposely left out features from InDesign in order to force you to purchase it. I already own both, so for me it just makes my work more complicated. They seem to be taking a similar approach with LR, purposely leave out features that bridge has, forcing you to own bridge.
Guy, I do normally keep jpegs in a different folder. The problem I am having now is that I have created a separate jpeg folder and LR doesn't recognize a large number of jpegs that I want to import into this folder. For some reason it ignores some of them. Probably because they have identical file names as the PSD files, whether though I have the ignore suspected duplicates boxed checked or unchecked. So I will have to rename them and try importing again. Of course I cannot rename them in LR, because LR refuses to see them.
These complications could be so easy to resolve if LR simply had some of bridges capabilities.

no you should transcode those files into an format that os suitable for editing. Like proRez. Although you might need some Flip4Mac or perian or something to do the conversion.

    Can anyone help?

Run an Apple Hardware test.  That may provide a clue:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.
If you have all of your data backed up or an external clone HDD, I would try erasing the internal HDD,  reinstalling the OSX and then upgrading the software to 10.6.8.

  • Program file for importer

hi, can anyone tell me how i can access the program file for importer ti add dvr-ms files. i'm running on a windows vista

    Hi,
If you have already selected "Videos" under "Manage Media Importer" and you still can't import the DVR MS files, then that might be a limitation of the import utility. As a work around, you may use the NTI Shadow Utility to do total backup on all your files.
    Cheers!

  • Iphoto fails to render files for export to certain folders after upgrade

I just upgraded to Yosemite and the latest version of iPhoto but I now unfortunately get an error message when I try to export photos. It seems to work if I export to the main Documents folder but fails if I try to export to a sub folder of the main Documents folder (very odd) which is where I want the exports to be saved. The error message says "Unable to render file for export:/Volumes/NO NAME/DCIM/IMG-1058.jpg". I don't know why the path name shown here is a SD Card path which is not connected. Hope someone can help? It worked fine before the upgrade to iPhoto 9.6.1
    Thanks
    Craig

The iPhoto preference file might be wonky. Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Best file for importing images from Illustrator and Photoshop for small file sizes

    Hello Adode consults!
I'm in the process of preparing an inDesign file for a school project -- I've already had a few harrowing experiences sending large files to the printer that are too large to process (and a very grumpy computer, etc). The end result will be a poster around 36 inches by 4 or 5 feet.
I'm wondering if there are any best practices for making sure that the files imported into InDesign are a manageable size to begin with. Should I, for instance, be saving each file as a jpeg before placing in Indesign?
    Thanks!
    -Katherine

No, you should not save every file as JPG before placing it in INDesign. JPG is only usefull for raster images (like photos) without any transparency in high quality.
    When you place images use:
For raster images from Photoshop psd (rgb with color profile)
For raster images from Photoshop with form layers, texts or any vector element use PDF (or PDP) with layers.
For vector graphics from Illustrator use AI files or PDF.
For layouts from other InDesign projects use either the INDD itsself or export a PDF/X4.
But to the printer deliver a PDF according to their standards. E.g. when they need CMYK files export as PDF/X1a with the required output color space and the resolution they want. Produce the pdf via Export (Print).
Don't deliver open INDD. File size should for printing projects not be an issue.

  • Second system User cannot see files for first system User

For reasons too complex to go into, I had to set up a second system User. (Okay, an Apple tech at the Apple Genius Bar did this, to fix corrupted Apple Mail)
I am both Users. Both are admins.
According to the documentation, User2 should be able to see files belonging to User1 (and vice versa, I presume), but this is not happening. It looks like I have to manually transfer files from User1 to User2. (Once I do this, I will abandon User1, so I don't have to keep them in sync.)
How to set up so User2 has access to User1's files (and vice versa)?

Once you enable sharing, you use the Finder window to go to the other user home folder/directory. For example, if you're logged in as user1 and you want to see the user2 tree, just tell Finder to open /Users/user2 (via the Go command). This assumes that all your user folders are located in /Users - if you have for example a separate disk for user folders then you would substitute that volume name - for example you have all your user home directories on /Volumes/Users, you would tell the Go command /Volumes/Users/user2
Also, just to make something clear - don't spread your files across the two user accounts - copy all the stuff from both into one of the user accounts and then when you have everything you need, you can get rid of the account that is no longer needed. The only problem you might run into is that you have files owned by an account that is different from where they are physically located. But if you copy things (don't move them - copy them) you should not run into this issue. But if you do run into this issue, it is easily resolved with a couple of Terminal commands usually. Do you know how to copy things with Finder as opposed to move them?
    Does that help?

  • Acceptable Video Files for Importing

what type of video files are acceptable to FCX? it won't read my AVIs or MPEG4s

MPEG Streamclip is especially useful for this sort of thing. I just recently converted a bunch of AVI files to DV, for import into FCP. If you want to convert VOB (DVD) files, however, you'll have to pony up the $20 to get Apple's Quicktime MPEG-2 Component. I've also been able to successfully open WMV files in MPEG Streamclip, as well as DivX/XviD files. It's very versatile. One format that I wish it would convert is RealVideo.

  • IMovie files for import.

I have previous iMovies burned onto DVDs.  I want to re-do them with the new iMovie and only have the DVDs to load from.  However iMovie does not recognize the .VOB files for me to import to create a project.  What can I do?

    Hi
Isn't it so that You need the .mpeg2 component from Apple $30 to do this ?

  • How to combine XDCAM clips into one big file for import?

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a basic question or just not possible... I'm on location and have to rush edit. I've not worked with xdcam before. Usually I would import all of the media in low-res (one tape at a time), see what I want, then re-import that in high-res.
In xdcam, when I import, I import EVERY single shot as a separate file. I can set ins and outs and just import what I want, but this is laborious to open and close every shot to see if I want it, then mark ins and outs.
Isn't it somehow possible to import everything on the xcdcam disk as ONE single file as you would a "tape" so you can quickly screen it, see what you want, then go back to the individual clips on your xdcam disk and import those in high-res? This would be so much faster!
Many thanks for your help... am in a bind and in a rush!

Ok thanks... that seems to work. It won't actually work for the way we're editing, but in theory had we synced up our workflow from the start...
Re. something new... well I hear what you're saying but I have changed formats several times, used 4 different nlediting platforms so far and not complained. This is the only one that seems much harder especially when you're working with different editors in different countries under tight time pressure.
The brief user guide that I read (and our tutorial instructor at work) told us to import all the little clips and said nothing of combining them... I'm not sure how people could actually work that way and manage dozens of disks' worth of individual shots as files. It would take years to cut an item... and usually we have about 45 minutes to an hour.

  • Not able to view transport request tpz file for importing in Production

    Hi Experts,
I am using PI 7.0. I am facing a problem while transporting a request to Production environment. I am using File Level Transport. When I create a transport file, it is successfully created in development system's /export location. Basis team moves the file production system's /import directory.
But here I am not able to see the imported file via Tool->import design/configuration objects , in Production environment. I have tried to use user Id's which have admin level authorizations, still I cannot see the file.
Background - A couple of weeks back, there was an issue with cluster service going down, and we had to manually register the  Exchange infrastructure in SLD. New associations were created as per SAP note - #764176 'Manual correction of XI content in SLD'. We were able to transport to Production environment before this issue occurred.
    Please help !

  • How to format .m3u files for import? Or is there a spec. for .zpl playlis

I currently create all my playlists through SlimServer (www.slimdevices.com). The result is .m3u playlists. I'd like to use these same playlists on my Vision M without having to recreate all of them. Writing a script to tweak what the structure of the .m3u is no problem. I've tried the method described here: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=0837
with no luck. Within MediaSource Organizer, I drag my imported playlist into an existing playlist on my Zen, but I always get "Error" or "Rejected" for each entry in the playlist. I think I may not be formatting the paths correctly in the .m3u. The styles of entries I've used include (folder structure below matches what is on the player):
    /Ben Allison/2006 Cowboy Justice/07 Weazy.mp3
    Ben Allison/2006 Cowboy Justice/07 Weazy.mp3
    /Music/Ben Allison/2006 Cowboy Justice/07 Weazy.mp3
    Music/Ben Allison/2006 Cowboy Justice/07 Weazy.mp3
No luck with any of them. Am I missing something?
Also, I was wondering if I could just write a script to create a .zpl (apparently creative's own style of playlist file?) file from an .m3u file. But I'd have to know the format of the .zpl file, and if I was able to create one, would I be able to drag-and-drop it into my playlists in Creative Media Explorer? Any ideas here?
    Thanks!

Just tested an .m3u playlist that looks exactly like this:
    (start file)
    C:\Ben Allison\2006 Cowboy Justice\0 Tricky **bleep**.mp3
    (end file)
That mp3 exists on C. The same file exists on my ZVM with the same directory structure underneath "Music." I copy the m3u playlist to my device using MediaSource Organizer--the playlist is transferred, but the file is copied to my player again! So now I have two copies of "Tricky **bleep**.mp3" on my player. The new one is copied to the ZVM in a different directory based on its tags (artist\album\track). This is definitely not what I want.
All I want is to copy over the miniscule playlist files, nothing else. Is this at all possible? And if so, what should the playlist files look like? I was hoping that I'd be able to easily synchronize my home player's playlists (Squeezebox) with the playlists on my ZVM, but this is not looking promising...
