LR hangs during rendering preview

LR 4.6 hangs after import while rendering the previews. Normally hanging starts after the first picture. Klicking the next one will restart the process - sometimes it runs up to the end, mostly I have to klick most of the pictures.
OS: Win 7 64Bit, File: DNG to DNG.

Walter

  • AE CS3 hanging during rendering?!

When rendering(sometimes?!)it hangs. Looking at the processes though they're still ticking over.
I have a Quad Extreme Xeon and discovered when it is rendering there are 4 processes rendering, if I kill one (when it hangs) the rendering usually kicks into life again?? Though when you render next time your a processor down and if you try it a second time it hangs completely :(
Any ideas whats happening and how to fix it?
Please help as this is really frustrating!
    MF

How much RAM do you have? What format do you render to? What CoDecs do the sources use (if any)? Multiprocessing crashes/ hangs either occur due to insufficient RAM or the CoDecs conking out. Especially the latter is a rather regular occurence, as most CoDecs are not fully multithreaded/ parallelized. also make sure your disks are fast enough. One instance having to wait for another to finish writing frames can also make it go too sleep (if it thinks it takes too long) and then they mutually lock each other....

  • Premiere CC hangs during rendering

    Hi,
Its going on for a longtime. When i render the project file in Premiere Pro CC, it hangs up the software or stops it when it reaches somewhere around 90% or sometimes before that.
After Rendering, i achieve is  faulty output, where in few bits and pieces the sound is not audible.
Its, my humble request to get me out of this situation by giving me an appropriate solution.
    Looking forward for a quickie!!!
    Thank you,

  • Final Cut Express hanging during renders

    Hey all,
I was hoping someone could help with this problem because I have no idea what's going on- I run FCE 4.0.1 on a 2.6 GHz macbook pro with 4GB RAM.
I've used the program for two years and I've never had a problem rendering my videos, but suddenly when I render, things go exceedingly slow, and the render time increases (sometimes to hours) rather than decreases. Finally the program gives up and crashes.
I've changed render disks (both external hard drive, and the internal), I've changed render settings, and I've even tried to re-render old movies, but those won't render either. I ran disk utility and the disks are good.
I re-installed FCE, updated it, and still no dice...I use Boris Continuum Complete effects and reinstalled that as well...Still no rendering.
To further complicate matters, sometimes the rendering window pops-up on the screen and disappears immediately. When this happens, I have to switch between safe RT and unlimited RT to get it to begin one of its never-ending renders cycles.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated...
    Eric

    Thanks for the reply-
I'm not sure which sequence settings I should check, but I'm pretty sure I never changed them from the defaults (I'm not really a video guy...)
That being said- my clips are pretty basic. I use text clips from LiveType, ArtText or Boris Continuum (which admittedly is a rendering hog), and then I use some still images which are all png files. I make short educational videos and I've used the same type of effects and clips in all of them, but this is the first time I've run into this rendering issue. Like I mentioned, I tried to render some of my old videos which used to render perfectly, and they no longer render...
I checked activity monitor - when I began the render it was very high- like 110% of CPU, and then when the render began to slow down and fail the FCE activity went to about 80% of CPU. I wasn't sure what other info to check on the activity monitor...
Anyway, I've still had no luck...
    Thanks for any ideas.

  • PE12 hangs during encoding/burn to file or disk. Dvd OK, AVCHD hangs

    Good day to everyone.
I have a 55-minute project conaining images, SD video and few HD AVCHD.  Trying to burn this onto a DVD at a AVCHD res.
    Problem:
If I chose the "DVD: res, under the pull-down option of "publish+share", then, I have no problem encoding, burning the whole project onto a file or a dvd.  But if I try to burn it as an AVCHD, no matter which setting (1440 X1080i, or 1080p etc.) i chose, forget it.  one time it hung at 98% during encoding, other times, it kept hanging after encoding was completed, but got stuck at 1% during subsequent burn process (to file, not even an inserted DVD). I had selected either one of the file sizes (4 GB or 8GB) and checked the selection for "fit to .....".  By hang I mean: after 8 hours it was still at the same spot.
Again, burning at standard dvd res works well. Burns to file, burns to dvd, no problem and the video looks fine. I even followed the suggestion of A.T. Ramono in one of his posts to another member and downloaded the ImageBurn software in order to isolate whether the issue is my burner or some where before that as i was trying to figure out what is going on.
I'd like to burn this project at a higher def as some of the pictures and vids are somewhat blury when I burn it as standard dvd res. Some images and vids are blury.  I also see the same bluriness while during preview (before I even move to burn a copy), but if I pause during the preview, the video and images that were blury, crisp up to a perfect image.
My system is a Dell XPS, Wind XP, 4GB RAM, two HDs.  Source on one with with 133GB of available, defragmented clean space left.   OS, programs and rendered files etc all are on the other drive with 230GB of clean defrag available space.
Anyone can help me figure out what is going on?

    Thank you John.
I read the post.  But it trigered a follow up question.
While my intention is to burn a AVCHD copy onto a disc, I can't even get the burn completed when I chose "Burn to folder:  (8.5GB)" AND I even check the box for "fit the content to available space"  So, I would assume that if the physical space on an actual DVD is the problem, then by
    1) checking the box that forces the media to fit the available space" and
    2) that I'm burning to a folder, not a DVD media
I should have no problem.  Right?
    can you please elaborate ?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Idvd burning problems during rendering/encoding

I have made several attempts to burn a dvd and when it gets to "step2: Menu and slideshow redering and encoding..." it never goes anywhere. If I cancel the process I get and error "error during rendering/encoding. there was an error during rendering/encoding of the menus/slideshows. Burning process aborted." The project is a 4 minute slideshow of pictures (jpegs) with one itunes imported song. The entire project was created in idvd and is no larger than 200megs. I have tried to burn this project on 3 different macs (2 G5s and a G4 powerbook) and they all have the same error so it must mean that I am doing something wrong. I have previewed the slideshow and it has no problems and am burning DVD-R's (tried a few different ones).

Was this a iTunes Store purchased song?

  • Jitters during RAM preview..

    Hi everyone...
I use Adobe After Effects CC. My system config is
    Issues i come across:
    1.  I get Jitters during RAM preview. Specially when i enable ray trace mode..
    2.  Also i get a pop up saying "Ray-Tracing on the GPU an approved NVIDIA graphics card and CUDA 5.0 or later. For now ray-tracing will use the CPU.
Can any body help me with the issues i face now pls?

Since you have CC, I would recommend that you avoid using the ray-traced renderer at all. You have access to a much more powerful (and faster-rendering) 3d option in AE. Click here: details of CINEMA 4D integration with After Effects

  • Frame counters during RAM preview and playback

It is my understanding that  I should be able to view the number
of the currently processing frame during the course of a RAM preview
in both the timeline counter (in frame display mode) and in the info panel.
This is not working for me, and I would like to see if I am missing something.
Here is the status of the counters with a RAM preview in progress.
The only updating frame counter is at the bottom of the composition window,
and it would not be visible while processing a full-screen RAM preview.
    RAM PREVIEW IN PROGRESS
This is the status of the counters during playback of the RAM preview.
The playback CTI is at about frame 90 of 912, but the counters in both the
composition window and timeline are frozen at zero, while the info panel
is frozen at the last frame number of the timeline (the last frame rendered).
    RAM PLAYBACK IN PROGRESS
During spacebar playback, only the composition window counter displays
the current frame.  The timeline counter is frozen at the frame number where
the CTI was parked when playback began (in this case, from frame 0).
The info panel only displays the framerate of the playback.
    STANDARD PREVIEW PLAYBACK
If I stop either a RAM or Standard preview playback using the spacebar
the timeline counter will update to the CTI frame, but if playback resumes
the counter stays frozen where the CTI was parked when resuming playback.
I am experiencing this behavior using frames, timecode, ft+frames, and using
    "From Current Time" RAM previews.
Please tell me I'm doing something wrong.

    The question I posed was:
    2. Is there a way to display the number of  the frame that is currently
being processed during the course of a RAM preview?
    The answer was:
    >Info panel + timeline display set to frames.
Your tip to disable "Show Rendering Progress In Info Panel And Flowchart"
is very helpful.  By unchecking the option, I do get a count of the currently
rendering frame during RAM preview... thanks for that!
It does seem a bit counter-intuitive to de-select this option in order to
view what might be the most the pertinent information (the current frame)
instead of "whizzing minutiae", but it does confirm I was missing something.
As for Mylenium's answer "timeline display set to frames", I can't seem
to get a running count in the timeline display under any rendering
or playback circumstance. I am a long-time Premiere user, and I was
expecting the timeline counter in AE to behave in a similar manner by
updating the current time during playback.
Is it the proper function for the timeline display to only update when parked?
If yes, I can get used to it.  Again, I just want to know if I am missing something.
    thanks

  • During ram preview ae cc wildly accessing system drive

After effects cc builds a ram preview of a 1920x1080 file without problem, the cache is on a secondary HD drive or SSD with plenty of speed and free space and there are 16 GB of RAM - but when the ram preview starts to play, sooner than 15 seconds it will become stilted and the system drive will start crackling like crazy. The activity of the system drive is so intense that the mac becomes sluggish and irresponsive.
An interesting aspect is that if it will keep playing as stilted as it is, after 2-3 cycles of the same ram preview range, the playback will become more fluid.
This happens - unbelievable- on a mac pro with 16 GB of RAM and latest Lion OS. All the files are on different drives than the system, and the cache was  hard drives or  ssd - all high speed, all internal drives.
And the latest surprise - assuming that maybe the system drive got too fragmented, I changed it for a brand new hd with all the programs transfered on the new drive from a time machine backup.
Same insane activity of the system drive at the less than 15 sec mark of ram preview playback.
Anyone encountered this wild accessing of the system drive by after effects cc during ram preview?

Good Points - you are partly right and my settings are attached here at the end.
I fiddled with them for a while (and even now they are too much in favor of AE) because it looked like they were not changing much from that weird behavior.  The fact is that I tried most values - from max to minimum for background processes -nothing changed much except the speed of the rendering. The stumbling and the wild accessing of the main drive continued no matter what after the 14 seconds mark of all HD renderings.
Seeing than no one can help here either, yesterday I tried changing everything else in the Preferences to see what makes any difference in AE CC 12.1 and get over with this behavior.
And 2 unexpected settings really made a difference for me:
1-the QuickTime Video Preview, unchecked, ended the inescapable stumbling at the 14 s mark. I don't know how, but it made a crucial difference.
2- at the Memory page I checked the Reduce Cache size when system is low on memory. It prevented the RAM preview from using all the ram and leave the mac processes starving and turning the machine sluggish.
The Ram preview now happens in an interesting fashion (I have Memory Cleaner, a benign app, really useful to show how much RAm you really have at a given moment on a Mac). The green line above the timeline now expands until RAM decreases to low numbers like ~500MB RAM left. The Preview processing then waits a matter of seconds until the numbers increase again beyond 1.5 GB and then continues to extend the line - and so on until it reaches the end of the work area. There is no crackling anymore (accessing system HD).
I am using only SSDs and auxiliary HD drives (for output and source files) and all Ram previews now are completely quiet.
So, I have found my solution so far. But there still is a question the AE designers might want to think:
If they know that AE will unload the RAM onto the system HD, why don't they insert an option in the Prefs to allow this unloading to happen onto any secondary drive - choosen by the user.
A secondary drive unload at least will not interfere with the system processes - turning the mac sluggish and add insult to injury.
My numbers below could look tight now, but the previews are really fast and I quit all secondary processes  on my mac when AE is working.

  • Random Flashing Color Bars within Quicktime Files during RAM Preview Only

I have been getting random color bar flashes within quicktime files in AE CC during RAM previews using Multi Processor rendering. Files other than .mov seem to not have this issue (although I have seen it twice...though it may be due to quicktimes in the comp). The rendered output using MP rendering is completely fine. If I turn off MP rendering the ram preview is fine. The source material is coming off a RAID 5 at 600-800MBs, I have moved the footage to a local SSD and a standard spindle drive with the same results. I have tried everything.....disabling GPUS in preview, disabling Fast Adaptive Preview, Disabling Disk Cache, Adjusting MP settings and RAM usage per core, disabling hardware accelleration of interface, adjusting gpu memory useage, every codec under the quicktime wrapper including uncompressed codecs, updating Blackmagic drivers, updating quicktime, limiting how many processors Windows 7 64bit can see, resetting AE preferences. I even installed After Effects clean on my second boot drive for gaming with no plugins or other apps, same issues. Have discussed this heavily with tech support at Adobe and they are working on it for a few days before getting back to me. When I got off the phone the tech was of the mind that I have too many cores for the Quicktime codec to handle.
    My system :
    Windows 7 64bit
Dual Xeon E5-2687W: 16 Physical cores and 32 cores with Hyperthreading
    32GB 1866 DDR3
    3xNvidia GTX 680 4GB cards
SSD boot and seperate SSD media cache drives
8TB internal SAS RAID 5 using a ATTO card
    Blackmagic Deckline Extreme 3D+ card
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated as this is a huge boon to my workflow. Having purchased a $12K system for grading and rendering....not being able to use the ram preview in AE with multiple cores is a huge inconvenience.

Here is the requested taskmanager screenshot. As my test comp only has a single duplicated quicktime in it, it renders too fast to really catch the AE instances doing anything. So this is from a heavier comp. Settings are as pictured above with 3GB per core using 8 total cores of the 32. It did flash the bars.
Here is what I tried tonight:
    - Followed the link on Quicktime having trouble with too many processors. Using MSCONFIG I dropped the recognized Processors to 21, 16, and 8 and tested all three settings. Each had the flashing bars issue. Again as usual, at random, sometimes 3 previews before showing up, sometimes the first preview run. I have noticed that the ram previews that take a little longer seem to be clean. Then sometimes it seems to fly through the preview, grabbing large chunks on the green progres bar above the timeline, or many little chunks very quickly....these are usually the preview runs that will show the flashing bars. I make a point of purging the cach between each one so it doesn't remember, plus I have disk media cache off, but sometimes I get the feeling it's remembering bits.
    - I removed all the Quicktime Components from the QTComponents folder and tested it. Flashed the very first run without any quicktime components.
    - Followed the Firewall or TCP instructions and made sure everything was allowed through ZoneAlarm. However I could not find the QT32 Server listed anywhere or figure out how to add it. No matter because I closed and force quit all of the firewall processes as well to make sure. Still flashed.
    - I followed all the advice on the landing page for Quicktime-related problems
    - I also tested out ram previews again thourougly with the same clip but converted to a Tiff sequence. No matter what I tried there was never any flashing in the ram preview with tiffs.
    - I also re-tested the clean render output. Made a ram preview with the flashing bars, then without purging rendered it out to a quicktime file and there were no bars at all in the rendered output. I even tried duplicating this render output 6 times in the render queue and rendered them all at once. Not a single one had a flashing bar frame. I even played all 6 1080P uncompressed 4.2.2 YUV 10bit pieces off the RAID with no dropped frames or hichups.
    - Killed every process in the taskmanager but for essential windows processes and the flashing bars were still present
    - Set the priority to Real-time for every AE process including Adobe QT32 Server, Dynamiclinkmanager, and all the AE processes. Still flashed.
I am now considering disabling two of my GPUs in the device manager. However I'm a bit worried about disabling the wrong one and being locked out. Any thoughts? Is the computer to powerful for some process somewhere? Why only in RAM preview? Thanks again.

  • Raising CPU usage during Renders

Hello: When I monitor using Activity Monitor, FCP, Motion, Shake, QuickTime Pro, ... only use about 10% of my computer's CPU when Rendering, Ram Preview, ... I sometimes use an application called HandBrake. When Rendering, HandBrake uses about 90% of my computer's CPU so it noticeably completes Rendering much faster than the FCS applications. Is there a way to get FCS Applications to use 90% of my computer's CPU during Rendering ? Thank-You, MLR

Hello: I'm correcting a statement I made in the initial string of this post. In Shake's render window, there is an option for "MaxThreads" which in my case, when set to 8 (cores), uses almost the full CPU processing power of my MacPro. "Activity Monitor" shows all 8 cores max'd out. I'll make a request to the FCS designers to add this "MaxThreads" functionality to QuickTime, FCP & Motion. If you are interested in this feature, I ask you to also send a similar request to the FCS designers. Thank-you, MLR ... http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html

  • Flash Player 10.1.53.64 hangs during initialization

(Forking off from [previous issue created by me|Flash Player 10.1; that was since stickied and dedicated to a PowerPoint issue.)
SWFs generated on a machine where Flash Player 9.0.115.0 is installed, and viewed in any web browser on machines with FP 10.1.53.64, hang indefinitely during the initialization sequence.
As noted in the previous thread, SAP has submitted an issue to Adobe (that could be similar or related) here:
    https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-4843
Noting that Adobe has addressed the above issue, does this fix extend to web browser plugin versions of the Flash Player as well?

    Hi Matt,
i am also interested in the conditions in which the bug arises. I developed an complex application using Xcelsius 5.3.1.0 with
Flash 10.1.82.76 installed on the development machine on Windows XP SP 3. At a certain point of the development
it was not possible anymore to preview application in the development environment. After generating the SWF the
development environment crashed while initializing the application. But the generation of the SWF file was successfull and
also can be done without errors using the export function.
To solve the issue with the current adobe flash player i downloaded the adobe flash projector of the older version 10r42_34,
loaded the generated SWF without any problems (on the development machine) and used the function "create projector" to create
a stanalone application that includes the player.
The ".EXE" generated worked fine on the development maschine as well as on a couple of other machines. With the corresponding projector for Mac OS we also generated an application including the player for OS X wich also works fine on
    some mac books.
On the other hand, the application hang in the initialization process on other windows machines without showing any rule
by hardware or software configuration (see also the Post from Francis86 in Thread "Hanging during utilization: Flash Player 10.1.53.64").
Two other aspects might be of interest for you:
    1) In the context of the development i also experienced problems after a certain amount of components had been added, resulting
in a crash of the development environment. The only way to solve the problem was to delete components or replace them by others. It would be interesting to know where the limitations are.
    2) The tab-component seems to produce additional problems. The first design of the application structures the application in different views utilizing a tab component with 5 tabs and a lot of components (as few as possible) on each tab. The problem arose if one uses the reset-button component. The reset did not work for every component within the different tabs. By random some of the initial values had been reseted to its original state, others had be set simply to 0 ignoring its initial state.
I could only solve this problem by replacing the tab component with a menu and using visibility rules. This results in solver responsibility when switching betweent the "tabs" but the reset works fine afterwords.

  • ITunes 7.5 hangs during CD playback - OS X

I posted the below last night. Today while checking for followups, I found that it was under Windows version of iTunes (even though a couple other posters may be referring to OS X as well based on their signature) My comments are for only for Mac.

I am having the same problem on 2 different G5 Dual PPC systems running 7.5. This occurs when playing commercial (redbook) CDs..... during CD playback iTunes stalls after the 2nd song (usually at time marker 0:02). I have no problem playing back any music already in my iTunes library (99% AIFF format). Something is up with this version! Please correct it asap. thanks.

When I searched I missed this thread: Problem Playing CDs in iTunes 7.5 http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1225880&tstart=0 which has the solution/fix. Seems to be the "Use Error Correction when reading audio CDs" setting in the Advanced >Importing iTunes preferences. The other solutions deleted plist files which essentially reset the preferences to default which has Use Error Corrections off.
I am listening to a CD now which did not stall at the normal track location.
I have to confirm that a CD does not stall when ripping(import CD) with the Use Error Correction setting ON.

  • Error during rendering/encoding -- PLEASE HELP!!

Hey everybody!! After trying twice to burn this project to DVD, I'm about ready to rip my hair out!! First of all, here's the specifics about my computer:
    Mac OS 10.3.7 / 800 MHZ Power PC G4 / 256 MB SDRam / My programs are iMovie 4 and I have iDVD5
OK, I'm trying to burn a movie that is about 1 hour, 23 minutes long. Even though my movie is not 90 minutes long, iDVD does tell me that it is too long and that I need to click on "Best Performance" in my iDVD Preferences. No problem, I did that. (By the way, at the time of the burning, I have about 5.1 GB on space left on my hard drive.)
Before burning I do repair permissions and delete my "com.apple.idvd.plist".
So, it burns and burns for roughly 6 hours. Right at the very end, the disk spits out and an error message comes up saying:
    Encoding Video
    Error during rendering/encoding:
This is very frustrating because I need to get this video done by tonight and turn it in by Monday morning!!
    Any suggestions?? Please help!!! Thanxx!!

I have about 5.1 GB on space left on my hard drive
I don't think that's enough. Remember a DVD is 4.7GB (which iDVD first stores on your hard drive) plus temporary files that iDVD needs.

  • I repeatedly get "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshow" message.  This process is the same on my iMac, MacBook and another iMac.  I have been burning dvd's int he same way for the past 12 months using the exact same steps successfully.

I keep getting "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshows" message.  I have been burning DVD's in exactly the same way for the past 12 months and mostly on my MacBook which is 3 years old.  Obviously I'm using iDVD.  I purchased an iMac about a year ago and moved to use this for dvd burning without problem.  A few months ago (approximately) I started to experience problems with burning with the error message above.  I tried everything including starting the whole process from scratch right down to capturing the movie clips from my video recorder into iMovie, then using them in iDVD.  Still the same message came up.  I lost count of how many times I repeated the process with different clips and variations and the same thing happened.  This was also the case with my MacBook and my husband's iMac.
After taking both of mymac's tothe service centre, having new optical thingys put it and even a new hard drive on my iMac along with a new DVD burner the same thing happened.  They told me it must be the process that I am using that is incorrect!
I took my 27" iMac to an apple shop and asked them to assist me while I use the same technique as I always had.  The same message came up so they tried using my clips in one of their mac's.  The same message. They tried it with different clips and the same message.  The only way we could get theirs to work was with a magic DVD which did not produce what I needed and was limited with only one page.
I now cannot use any of my Mac's for the intended purpose that I bought them for - to produce good media for my work!  It was suggested that I purchase some non Mac software to burn DVDs which defeats the object of having a mac with iDVD in my opinion.  I have a book on iDVD which is very informative and have followed the process to the letter and checked all the trouble shooting and still no remedy.  It was mentioned that an up-date may have caused the problem on all my macs.
I feel that this issue should be addressed by Apple as a matter of correctness.
I now find that on the net there are many posts in forums and such like with exactly the same (almost word for word) problems.  Please Apple, keep/regain your good name and sort this out.
    Jayne Connelly

Thanks Bengt W for your attention to this matter.  So much appreciated.  And thanks for putting me right on the aim of forums (new to this).  Although, you may regret asking for more information.  I've added everything I can below.
The process I used is as follows:
Import recorded clips of between 5 and 15minutes each from my video recorder into i
Edit the clips (remove unwanted start and endng)
Add title to front of clips
‘Share’ them to ‘movie’ (export using QuickTime)folder in .mov format individually
Open iDVD and ‘create new project’
Select ‘favourite’ theme that I have set up forall my work dvd’s (this has been used successfully many times and I’ve triedwithout using the favourite them).
Add 2 submenus for each group of clips
Select submenu  - drag and drop between 3 – 6 clips in each of the twosubmenus
    Change title colours on clips
Dragand drop image into drop zones where required
In‘map’ view I check for any yellow warnings before burning to disc
In an attempt to remedy the problems I’ve tried the following:
    Try new DVD discs
Try different themes (favourites and standardones)
    Change images in drop zones
Start whole process again even from importingfrom camera again
Two other completely different computers (iMacand MacBook) with iDVD
Go to apple shop and use their computers to doin iDVD
Try with one clip and no menu pages added
Use a clip that I already have that did notoriginate from my camera
    Turn computer off and restart
    New hard drive
    New optical lense (thing)
    New DVD burner
Saving to disc image rather than dvd disc
    Other points:
I also have a ‘flip’ and ‘iPhone’ whereI’ve imported footage camera which, although limited, records and makes videoclips and burns them to DVD through iDVD without problem.
For example, I have just gone through steps 5 - 11 using some clips that were already imported from my iphone to iPhoto and dragged across.  I used a theme that I've used before which has failed and added one sub menu page where the clip went.  It burned to disc image successfully.
The startup disc, I believe will have no space issues asit’s a new hard drive with no use apart from this.  That could have been an issue before (I didn’t check it) butnot now.
Other technical stuff that I don't understand but you may:
