LR import (from Nikon P340) distorted some pictures

Some pictures are getting seriously distorted although most look good as far as I can see.
No Develop Settings were applied during import.
There are two problems on a few pictures.
Pictures taken indoors at night without flash which has a slight yellow cast (as viewed in NX2) have an exaggerated yellow cast in LR.
The bigger issue is that LR has ADDED significant barrel distortion (if that's the right term, straight verticals become significantly curved).
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
This happens on the NRW files, not the JPG files.   They look fine (as in the same as far as I can tell as in NX2)
A related question ... I had saved NRW+JPG files on the camera but LR wont import the JPG; it only imports JPG where there is no NRW file.
(To see that the distortion was only on the NRW files I had to remove them, move the JPG files to a different folder on their own then import the JPGS).
How can I get it to import both?   (Usually there would be no need, and probably once Ive got everything mastered I may drop the JPG file, although it does help when flipping through folders in Windows Explorer, but I think that's a whole other question)

Found this in the PCMag review of P340
"One of the reasons that the edges of the wide-angle JPG output are so sharp is that the camera is cutting off a good portion of what's actually captured. If you shoot in Raw, you'll be greeted with an image that shows significant (13 percent) barrel distortion, basically a mild fisheye effect. The P340 corrects for this automatically when shooting in JPG mode. If you use Adobe Lightroom as your Raw converter you won't have to worry about the distortion, as there's a lens profile built in for the P340 that fixes it with one click. Alternatively you can manually dial in distortion correction and end up with an image with slight barrel distortion, but with a wider field than the automatically corrected version. The shopkeeper in the shot above wasn't visible on the rear LCD or JPG output when I framed the shot, but when I saw the Raw file on my computer screen I wanted to preserve his presence. Utilizing the lens profile correction in Lightroom also cut him out of the photo. Instead I dialed in a full 100 on the distortion correction slider, which corrected the geometry enough to suit my tastes and made for a stronger composition. It should be noted there's some blurriness in the corners when you use this technique, which is likely why Nikon crops them out of the image to begin with."
Not sure Id say "mild" fish eye, but then I'm not a fish
Still not clear why its bad on just a few images and (at first glance anyway) Ok in others.  More digging to do ....

I have just upgraded to the most current version of aperture and when I import images from my qxd card it looks like it is importing but no images show up.

So the images show up in the Import pane of Aperture but after you press the Import button they do not show in the project you are importing into?
Does this happen for both Raw and JPG images?

Cannot open .avi files imported from Nikon d90 in Adobe Premiere 6.0.
When I try to open the file I get the following error message:
    "cannot open that file
the file uses an unsupported file compression format"
I really need urgent help with this so if you know a soloution, please post it!

I don't do mjpeg so you will have to search the forum for advice
But... having a playback codec installed does not ALWAYS mean the codec will work for Premiere editing
After you search the forum and find the (I think free) codec vendors, you will need to install fresh so Premiere will "see" the codec for editing
    Or, Google
    convert mjpeg avi
To convert to DV AVI type 2 with 48khz sound so the files will "natively" edit in Premiere
My GUESS (you didn't say) is the d90 is a STILL camera that has a video function, not a true camcorder
If you plan to do much video work, you need a tape-based DV camcorder so you use Firewire to do a digital transfer as a "real" AVI that Premiere may edit without conversion or extra software
For a Firewire DV Camera - look at Panasonic PV-GS320 or GS500 (Note that I have not used either, but they have good reviews)

My iphoto 9.5.1 imports from nikon D7100 are flat, and the iPhoto controls do not seem to give as much control as earlier version i am upgrading from.

  • Importing from Nikon D7000 into Lightroom

Lightroom does not seem to recognize my Nikon D7000. I connect the camera, open LR, and nothing happens. I can click Import, but it doesn't recognize the device. The D7000 comes with Nikon's ViewNX2 software which they want you to use for import. Do I really need to use that to import photos from the camera, then import them from ViewNX2 into LR? That seems like a pain. I just upgraded to LR 3.6 so I don't think that's the issue.
    Thanks for any help!
    Carrie

    Carrie,
3.6 will read your D7000 files. In general it's best to use a card reader, but the camera should work. I'm not familiar with the D7000, but my D300 has two modes for USB: PTP and Mass Storage. The camera has to be set to Mass Storage to read images from it. Your camera may be the same.
If that isn't the case, try using Windows Explorer or Mac's Finder to drag and drop your pictures from the camera to your hard disk and then import from there.
Let us know how it goes.

  • NRW files from Nikon P340 in PSE11

I have PSE11.  I recently purchased a Nikon P340 which uses NRW files.  I cannot open these files in Camera Raw 7.4.  Any solutions?

The P340 was first supported in Camera Raw 8.4
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Camera Raw 8.4 is only compatible with Elements 12 or newer. It is not compatible with Elements 11.
    Some options:
    Upgrade to Elements 12
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all Raw P340 files to DNGs using the DNG Converter then open the DNGs in Elements 11

  • Photoshop CC not allowing JPEG import from Nikon D800 - Photoshop CS6 worked fine.

When inporting JPEG from Nikon D800 nothing happens - screen remains blank.
Went back to my provious version (Photoshop CS6) and it worked fine.

Curt Y gave you some good advice.
Remove your memory card from the camera and plug it into a card reader.
Drag/copy the files from the memory card to your hard drive.
Eject your card from the card reader and reinsert into camera.
Then open the files from the hard drive.
It is not a good idea to open/work on files on the memory card, while either in the camera or the card reader.
Yes, you may have done this differently in the past, but it is much SAFER to work on the files after they have been moved to your hard drive.
Please try the above proceduce and report back if you are still having issues.

  • Aperture refuses to import from Nikon D300

After Yesterdays update Aperture refuse to import RAW files from my Nikon D300 as it did before. I get the message "0 images has been imported...".
I can import to iPhoto and them export to Aperture so the RAW files seems OK.
And I can still import JPEGS from my small Canon IS850 directly to Aperture
    Larsan

I am doubting this has to do with updating to Aperture 2.1.2, but rather might be related to Camera RAW 2.3 -- what version of Camera RAW have you installed?
In the a topic about auto-rotation here, there are confirmed problems with not only auto-rotation, but also recognizing as duplicates any images remaining on the card that have previously been imported. The auto-rotation problem, at least in the Previews, is common to both Aperture and iPhoto 08, so clearly points to CRAW 2.3.
We need to see if your experience might also be related to CRAW 2.3. I am having no problem importing from a card reader with cards used in my D200 and D300 cameras, however, other than those mentioned in that topic.

  • Why won't LR5 automatically save my original RAW imports from Nikon D7100?

Why won't LR5 save my original RAW imports from D7100. I can import them and process them but the originals are then lost. What am I doing wrong? With every other camera the original RAW image is saved in the library.

Another guess as to what is happening is that your Folders panel section was accidentally closed/hidden in Library.
To fix this, right-click on another section name in the lefthand panel and put a checkmark next to Folders.
The possible sections on the left in Library are:
Navigator (which cannot be closed or right-clicked on)
    Catalog
    Folders
    Collections
    Publish Services
A variation of this situation would be that instead of hiding the Folders section entirely, you've merely collapsed it.
To reveal the list of folders click the triangle that is pointing towards Folders so that it points down at a now expanded Folders section.

  • Importing from Nikon D5000 causes crash

Every time I try to use the 'Import' feature on LR5 (and LR4 when I had it), I get to the import screen, can see my D5000 highlighted on the left under 'devices', but LR crashes every single time.
I have to use Windows to drag files across into a folder on my desktop and import from there, with no trouble at all.
I have no problems whatsoever with my D70 (which uses a CF card, rather than a SD card like my D5000), but I have never managed to get the D5000 to import directly.
I don't get any error message, the little loading wheel bottom left just stops freezing, the whole program stops responding, and I end up having to kill it via task manager.
Has anyone experienced this, does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks so much

I don't own one, as I normally just plug my camera straight into my computer.  I just wondered if there was a lazier way
    Thanks so much.

  • IPod 5G picture import from Nikon D70

I have the iPod 5G and I am wondering if there is a way for me to shoot a picture with my Nikon D70 and have the picture go directly into my iPod. I do not care where it goes as long as it is there. If there is a way please let me know. Thanks.

    Comp.Guy
From camera to ipod through the connector it's pretty slow, but if you get a card reader the Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 15-in-1 Media Card Reader/Writer(Model No. F5U249ea) amazon do them, is the one i know definately works with the ipod connector, it's bus powered so know batteries or mains needed, plus it's usb-2 so it's alot faster than doing it from the camera, if you do it this way you can put another memory card in your camera and keep shooting, and put the full one in the card reader-to iPod for transfer in the bag. then swap them over and carry on until you've finished shooting, fastest and easiest way.
    Hayden
No worries, it will definately store the file, if you copy what ive written above about the card reader, it'll take any memry card and save your batteries, also if you can change settings onn the camera fiddle around with them to see if you can make a compatible format!

  • Fish-Eye Problem with importing from Nikon p330

    Hi There,
    I'm new to the forum.
    I've a Nikon P330.
When I shoot in RAW (NRW). Then Aperture makes my photo realy strange.
When I shoot in NRW + Fine and I import the NRW and JPEG in to Aperture there is no problem. They look like the picture bellow.
After importing; when I select the picture of de NRW version it first shows like the above picture; but after it stops loading it looks like the picture bellow!
I check the internet but I can't find why Aperture is doing this to my RAW pictures.
    Please help me.
    FYI
    - no plug-inst installed
    - working with full updated Aperture
    Thx.

Very simple, Nikon does some extra processing to account for lens distortion, the raw file does not have that correction. You will need something like the PTLens plug-in.
ETA: The reason it looks OK initially is that it is showing the JPEG preview with the correction applied.

  • Files won't import from Nikon D3200 camera into LR5

I've just installed LR 5.7.1. I have the camera plugged in directly (Nikon D3200). The thumbnails from my camera are available (I've deselected a few of the images that I don't want to import). The default 'Pictures' folder on my hard drive is the selected destination. I click the 'Import' button and the "Importing files..." message appears and just hangs, nothing imports (camera battery dies after a few hours). The "Copy and Import photos" progress bar at the top left doesn't show any progress. Any suggestions?

    * Thank you for the suggestion.
Additional info: I can not get the images onto my MacBook Pro via Image Capture either. Same situation, the images appear in thumbnail but after I click import nothing happens. However, I am able to get the pictures onto a separate MacBook via Image Capture indicating that there is something wrong with my system or it's settings. Both computers are running OS X Yosemite.

  • Importing from Nikon D200 on Windows Vista

I have lightroom 1.0 and a Nikon D200 - running in PTP mode - when I import photos - lightroom states no photos to import.
If I switch to Mass Storage Mode - lightroom shows me the photos on the card, but I cant select "Move photos and import".
So I have to copy the photos to my harddrive first, then I can move them into my library - not very pratically
Anybody found a solution to this irritating workflow ?
    Regards
    Kurt

Thom Hogan recommends transferring pictures by using a card reader, rather than tranferring from the D200. http://www.bythom.com/d200guide.htm
    I agree with him.
I do not move photos from the card. Instead I copy them, back them up, and verify that they have copied properly before deleting them from the card. If there is a problem moving the files, you could lose your photos.
I am waiting for all of you to test and identify problems with Vista before I upgrade, so I do not know if Vista has problems with card readers.

  • Import from iphone shows 7 invisible pictures

I only have 1 photo on my iphone, and when I go to import my pictures from my iphone, it shows my 1 picture, and 7 boxes with dotted lines, 1 being a video. Then it says:Error downloading image.iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image. when I try to import them, but it only imports the one picture I have taken.

I'm having the exact same issue. I'm currently trying the Image Capture route. I hate restoring my phone as I'm not sure if this is a long term fix or not. I'm exploring different options now and will let you know if I figure anything out.
Edit: figured a bit out– the "invisible" files I'm seeing are the files transferred from apps like hipstamatic, tilt shift generator, and camera+. I'll try contacting the devs of one of these apps to see if it's a common issue.
Edit #2: Figured out the rest. The "invisible" files had nothing to do with my problem. My problem was lack of hard drive space. Apparently 4GB (well over the amount needed to import the photos) wasn't enough. I deleted some files which bumped it to 10GB and now they import just fine. Hope this helps.
