LR is autosorting stacked pics

Hi,
I work with LR 1.1 and am discovering all the possibilities.
Currently I'm re organising the 20,000 pics in my library.
I use groups of stacked pics as a part of this personal project, but the software behaves a bit weird:
When I stack a group of pics, LR moves this group of stacked pics to the end of the selection, regardless the sorting method I use at that time.
Even when I try to rearrange everything by sorting on date of capture, still the stacked group is separated from the others. At first I thought I had lost my files!
how do I keep LR from doing this self organized sorting?!
I just want the stack between the pics that I took in the same shoot!
Tia, Giedo

Check your sort in the toolbar...if you want it to sort by time created, choose that, not time modified.

  • How can I stack photos in E12 without clicking every single pair/group?

Stacking pics requires a click for every darn pair/group of pics. Surely E12 can spot pairs of JPEG/RAW files and just stack them automatically? If so HOW?

In Edit> Preferences> Camera / Card Reader you can set 'automatically suggest stacks' for the initial import.
For stuff already in the Organizer use Find> Br Visual Searching> Visually similar ... Once it's finished doing its thing then they are fairly easy to stack.

  • Smart Album with Only Favorite Pick of Stack Rather Than All Stack Picts

I am trying to create a smart albums where i would have only my favorite pictures. most of my pictures are in stacks and when i create an album with my favorites, i get every pictures of the stacks rather than the favorites.
do anyone knows a way to single out the favorite picture of the stack and have it in a (smart) album, without all the other pictures part of the same stack attached to it.
    thanks for your help

Sorry, edited (one sentence was incomplete):
... for each album, you can define an album-specific stack pick which is different from the "overall" stack pic.
    Let's say you have a project "client 1" with a stack containing images A, B, C, D. Let's make B the stack pick.
Now you can set up an album (or website, or book, or whatever) "client 1 my choice" and set image D to be the album pick. You can then set up another album "client 1 their choice" and set image C to be that album's album pick.
If you then view the album "client 1 my choice" you'll see image D. If you view the album "client 1 their choice", you'll get to see image C. If you view the project "client 1" in which your stack is residing, you'll see image B.
All this can be achieved without unstacking since the image (and stack) in the album is just a pointer to the original stack which resides in your project "client 1". I find this quite comfortable.
    Cheers,

  • Stacking doesn't work

I select a group of photos and all the stacking instructions are greyed out. I'm selecting in grid view and in the filmstrip. I've quit and reopened a few times. Any suggestions?

The problem i have with the stacking restriction relates to my fokder system. I have a manin folder that has my Raw files, as I work on some of them in photoshop I save the tif or psd file to a folder within the original folder. Unfortunately, you can't stack tif edit files if they are in a subfolder of the original main folder.
I can see not being able to stack pics in totally separate folder trees, but why prohibit stacking among nested folders?
Maybe I'm just being real old school about how I've handled filing photos. I would welcome hearing about a better way to structure.

  • Media pending, audio works, please help.

Suddenly Adobe premier does't show any video any more (in any window of the project layout).
All clips are linked correctly and are verified by the project windows - all audio of the clips plays correctly.
This happened after (several manipulations after) it crashed while exporting media containing stacked titles and two simple .tiff pictures (I know it dosn't like stacked pics, so I don't use them much as it always crashes.
Now, the project worked when I removed my still picture stack, so I added them again one-by-one. This time it didn't give a crash message but simply stopped showing ANY video.
I am in a terrible situation now as I have deadlines to meet.
I have reloaded the project, I have tried prevous projects, they all refuse to show any video.
All clips are linked, the time line moves and plays audio, the effect control recognizes all clips.
    HELP !! Please.

    Thanks for your question:
    1.  I layer still images for example to have several small pics in different places over the video. That's the most straightforward - in this case, 1 or 2 layers, might work without crashing.
    2. I can use png, tiff, jpg, the resut is the same.
    3. Situation gets worse with increasing file resolution (size or colour depth).
    4. Adding simple FX like cropping (which is the most used FX for still pics) will crash very early.  I can can crop stacked video all day with no crashes.
In the current example I was stacking 6 titles of one word, made within Adobe Premier, and making them move around using position and rotate. That worked fine, and then I added two images made of small screen shots of single colour shapes. Everything went ok, even the rendering (which is where often it crashes already). Then the crash I describe above happened when the export encoding was taking place.
Now, before my post I had re-loaded and it still didn't work, and no project would display video media - which is why I panicked - now I reloaded a second time and it works again. But for how long?
Clearly I need to get gto the bottom of this, but how to proceed ?
So far I have not had a crash by using video only - incuding stacked videos.
One thing I noticed which might be a clue is that when trying to import a high resolution picture, Adobe Premier simply gives an error message that the file is to big and unsupported - 'Final Cut' in that situation would ask if it is ok to use a lower resolution and proceed to downsize it.
All of this is daily bread and was so simple and stable with 'Final Cut', I cannot believe that Adobe would have difficuty doing these things - maybe it is an Adobe/Mac thing, but then I have the fast i-Macs (2 of the 27"models with 24GB cache) , Intel chips and all the recommended grahics cards and kit.
Is there perhaps a system configuration using external discs for selected functions which would help?  Or is there a configuration that defines cache versus disc, etc?
Thanks to all (and Adobe if you read this) if you can help - can't believe I am the only one.
    Best wishes,
    marco

  • Phantom pictures and persistent albums

Two problems in one post really, but I have so many issues with A3 that it's difficult to tell what is related and what isn't.
I have reported over twenty bugs, but these two are worth mentioning on here.
    Problem 1:
There is some sort of database corruption going on. In many of my stacks, when I click on a particular pic, two of the stack members highlight. These two are identical. If I unstack then one of them disappears. If I delete one, then in my trash it shows one picture, but shows a picture count of two against the trash in the Inspector. Moreover, I created a smart album to show unrated stack pics, and many of these phantoms appear in this album despite having a rating. I am going through each one, unstacking, resorting the stack order and re-stacking and selecting the stack pick again. This seems to fix the problem.
I have rebuilt my database many times and it doesn't fix the problem, and have come to the conclusion that it is something to do with using plug-ins (in my case Nik software) with the 'create new versions when making adjustments' selected in the advanced tab of Aperture preferences. I've switched off this option and now manage new versions manually.
    Problem 2:
Any album (smart or otherwise) I have created in the past persists. Specifically, I have to delete it three times before it actually goes.
When I rebuild my database, duplicate versions of smart albums appear. Not all of them, just (apparently) random ones. I have now deleted all albums I have created and will see what happens in the future.

    HELP PLEASEEE!

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
    Scenario 1
Next to your Own Buddy icon at the top of the Buddy list your own Video icon should be "Stacked" if you can do Multi-way Video Chats.
As Audio chat take less bandwidth it is implied you can do Multi-way Audio Chats.
If your Icon becomes a single "Flat" one then so will your Buddies as you will only be able to Video Chat to them one at a time.
If you can Multi-way Chat but a Buddy can not (most likely a AIM on PC Buddy) then they will show a "Flat" iCon.
    Resized "Flat" pic
    Resized "Stacked" pic
    Scenario 2
However these icons appear in a group at the bottom of the Buddy List, and are dark like this when a Buddy is highlighted.
From what you posted I am not entirely clear which part you are talking about.
I would rather be clear before we proceed.
Can you start though with a plain Shut down and reboot of the computer and then start up iChat ?
This will get iChat to recheck the Bandwidth (portion of your Internet Connection) it can "See" and it may do better now the other computer is not doing a Video chat.

Since upgrading to Aperture 3.3, when I try to sync photos to my iPhone, I'm getting all versions in a stack loading onto my phone, which makes for some ugly pics, as well as taking up nearly double the space.

Could it be the problem lies with iTunes and not Aperture?  iTunes 10.6.3 was released on the same day as Aperture 3.3 --  June 11.
If someone has a configuration to test an older version of Aperture with iTunes 10.6.3 to see if the problem exists, that could be helpful.

  • Will stacks show in pic's when burning a dvd?

Hi all, just wanted to know if the stacks in my pic's will show when burning a dvd. When I fix red-eye or auto smart fix it shows the stacks on my pic's. I don't want the stacks to show when burning the pic's on a dvd.
    Thanks, alot

    > When I fix red-eye or auto smart fix it shows the stacks on my pic's
My guess is that what you are referring to as "stacks" is the icon superimposed on the thumbnail to show that this photo is part of a Version Set. This icon is present over the thumbnail, but it is not in the photo itself. No, it will not show on the photo file that is burned to a DVD.
You did an auto red-eye and an auto smart-fix. These create Version Sets where they save the file of your fixed photo separate from the original photo file so that your original is preserved.
I think my description answers Colin's question of "what do you mean by stacks showing?" If not, tell us what you did mean.
Then please do answer the question of specifically how you plan to Burn the DVD.

  • How to import a stack of pics from photo browser (Adobe photoshop elem 4) and put them into layers

I am able to form a stack of pictures in photo browser, but I can't import all the pictures at once into one project of multiple layers. The best I can do is iimport them all into separate projects. How can I get a stack of photos to open into one project of multiple layers?

Open the images in Full Edit. One will show in the main browser window drag each of the others up from the project bin on top of the open image. Each one you drop will create a new layer. Not sure with PSE4 (it works on the latest versions) but give it a try.

  • I get a memory stacking kernel panic when I startup Mac osx

Can only boot into safe mode... When booted normally a black and white screen comes up with the aPple logo and a bunch of kernel code errors. I saw a pic online of someone else getting the same error message and the problem was referred to as a memory stacking issue where the ram may be bad in the iMac... Does anyone know how to fix this error so I can do a normal restart and not have to boot into safe mode? I have tried to run the apple hardware test, but I no longer have the system CDs...

  • Duplicates in Stacks and other Editing in the Finder

I am a new Aperture 2 user and I am loving it so far!
What I am wondering is if there is a way to make duplicates in a stack show up in the finder? I have noticed that the only files in the finder are masters... is there a way to show the duplicates at least?
At the very least - I would like to be able to use some events as a screensaver or desktop. In sys prefrences, the album shows up, and all the edited photos appear as they should, but still - the duplicates are not there.
Do I need to un-stack the photo's to accomplish this?
    Thanks =]

    Two things:
1- You can't show edited versions in the Finder because they don't exist outside of Aperture (unless you've created a TIFF file by using Dodge and burn or another plugin or editor). This is why it's a non-destructive editor: your adjustments are just sets of instructions saved in an xml file and applied on the fly by Aperture when you view the picture. The only thing you can see in the Finder are your masters. If you want to use edited versions you first need to export them.
2- The iLife browser only shows files for which Aperture has created a preview. Make sure the files you want to use as screensaver or desktop pic contain a preview (try dragging it to your desktop: if the preview is there you'll see a green + sign appear signifying it'll be copied. If no sign appears, you don't have a preview). You can set Preview generation in Aperture's preferences or generate them manually.
But I'm struggling with your definition of duplicates: what exactly do you mean by that? If you're talking about different versions of the same file (with varying settings), then they're called versions. In fact the entire Aperture workflow is based on versions, stacks and picks. Duplicates would be the exact same picture, without any changes.
Not trying to be snotty here btw, just want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly!

  • Mobile me gallery and stacks

When I drag a stack pick to a mobile me gallery the entire stack shows up in the gallery and none of the pictures in the stack are selected as the stack pick. Once I have all my pictures in the mobile me gallery I have to go back and re-select the picture in each stack I want published.
Is there a way to drag the stack pick from an album to a mobile me gallery without having to go back and re-selecting the stack pick
    Thanks

Not that I am aware of. I drag the pic to the mobileme gallery. Then click on the version I want to display in the gallery, and "shift-\" to make that image the "album" pick. This keeps my project "stack" pick intact. Every album or gallery can have their own picks, designated by the check-mark on the thumbnail.
Would be nice if the album pick was designated by which version is dragged to the album, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I have seen this issue. And it seems like it is more related to the buttons being placed on multiple layers rather than the buttons placed on a master page vs non-master page. I have yet to determine what causes a button to randomly ignore the stacking order of layers. But if you move all buttons to same layer, and then have all in the proper stacking order, this should maintain the same stacking order once exported to PDF. I realize that this could defeat the purpose of layer functionality, especially when working with many overlapping buttons.
