LR is "overwriting" some of my photos with other sets of photos. Editing from original photo is still there, same file
I have gone through all of my original folders that are being "over written", none of them share the same folder, file #, etc. I tried re-importing the group of photos that have been covered up by other photos, but they show up as normal thumbnails and already shows that they are imported. A brief blurb popped saying it was overwriting or rewriting the metadata as I would click through the photo strip and watch LR overlay my original photos with other photos from another set. In the bottom photo I attached, photos of Sahalie Falls are replaced by Oregon Coast photos. The editing is obviously there from the previous photo. And for some reason LR has covered them with sideways or even upside down photos (unusual!). Many of my photos have also recently been disconnected from their folder location and have to be reconnected. I have fixed some of them but it goes back through 4 years of photos! This isn't the case for the coast vs Sahalie falls photos, though. Any ideas?
With regards to the disconnected photos, that means you did something to the photos outside of Lightroom, such as rename, move, delete the files; or on Windows it could mean your external hard drive now has a different letter. So depending on what you did, the solution may be

With regards to "wrong" thumbnails, delete your preview cache. This is a folder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA and is in the same folder as your catalog. Do not delete the .LRCAT file. You must fix the disconnected photos before this will work.
By the way, Lightroom never overwrites the photos. They remain untouched, even if at the moment they are not displaying properly.
By the way, never re-import. That's NEVER, as in don't even think about it, don't go near it, just don't do it.

[email protected]Unfortunately iWeb cannot read or import previously published files, only generate them. You'll have to recreate your site from scratch.
However, Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the recreation of the site.
OT -
I copied my iPhoto library to an external hard drive and the event windows show up black.
The photos are still there once I click on an event but they don't show in the window.
My next step is to delete the iPhoto library from the internal memory to free some memmory space but I don't want to do this until I see that the library works fine on the external hard drive.
How do I fix that?Hold down the "option" + "command" keys and launch iPhoto.
Select the "Rebuild Thumbnails" choice. -

It's version iPhoto '11. I sent the photos to the trash from in the resident iPhoto application, but not to the iPhoto trash, but the OS's trash in the bottom right task bar (Finder Trash).
Realizing what I had done, I dragged the picture folder back into the "Pictures" folder under my name in the Finder. I also dragged the iPhoto Library file back, but it said a new one had been created... I still attempted to replace the new with old iPhoto Library file.
The pictures are back and i can see the album names under events. The problem is that the album covers, nor the pictures themselves show up as thumbnails like they did before... they only show when you individually click on the photo to bring it into full view. I only see a grey background where the thumbnail was.
Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

I am able edit pictures in PSE (Photoshop elements) 10 BUT i am unable to edit videos in PRE (premiere elements) 10. I will uninstall LR 4.1 RC1 and then install RC2 and use a backup of the catalog. Lets see if that works.

One of my imported MOV files turns "black" after editing with it for a time and I can't retrieve the images. This has happened three times, only this file. The placeholder is still there. Files are fine on hard drive. What gives? how to stop this? is in final cut pro 10.1.4

i just purchase an ipad2 yesterday when i tried to download some apps it kept giving me this error1004 msg. i tried to reset everything still the same msg. I even reset my account credit card still the same. I already talk to ipad support she does have clue either.

If you right click on a son in iTunes and click Get Info. Under the Sorting tab iyo can change how the songs is sorted in iTunes
Tips for using song and CD info to organize your music
You can edit information in the Info window to make it easier to find and sort items in your library. For example, you can:
Group individual movements on a classical CD into one work by indicating the name of the work (for example, “Piano concerto in A Minor, Op. 54”) in the Grouping field.
Group songs that are part of a compilation together in your library by clicking Details and selecting the checkbox next to “Album is a compilation of songs by various artists”.
Identify the individual artists on a tribute album in the Artist field, and type “various” in the Album Artist field.

Does the non-syncing songs play in iTunes on the computer?

Cannot video with some buddies and can with other ones...
I ma having trouble video (or audio) conferencing with my buddy. We used to be able to video without any problems. Now we cannot. I still can video chat with another buddy (buddy2). We even did a 3-way conference between us (where buddy2 setup the connections).
This is what happens when I initiate it: I get the message that invitation was sent, my buddy gets the invitation and accepts it, then ichat tells me that a communication error occurred. when I see the log, I find error -8.
He is running Mac OS X 10.5, I am running 10.4.11. I as far as I can tell, my router is not blocking any services/ports, and he does not have a router, his PC is wired directly into the modem.
I can video with the test accounts from Apple. AI asked him to try it. He did. After that, we tried and it worked! The next day, we tried it again and it did not work!

Binary Images Description for "iChat":Hi,
An Error 8 in ichat 3 with just the Titles that the log is about would normally suggest ports somewhere.
Most logs you see posted have information under the Titles almost obscuring them.
Possibles.
In System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming set the setting to 1.5Mbps
iChat in iChat 3 can sometimes get sent a 0kbps when set to Automatic and this can give Error 8 as well (It should be Error 22)
In iChat > Preferences > Video section if you have had the Bandwidth drop down changed set it back to NONE in the first Instance.
If at NONE try 500 (kbps)
In System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall do you have the Firewall On ?
If so do you have a Specific iChat Setting ? (Ignore the iChat Bonjour as it is useless in this case)
We have to consider the routing device.
Does this have Ports set for iChat or does it use UPnP to allow ports to be Open ?
If it uses Port Forwarding does this list an IP it is pointing to ?
IS that IP the one the computer shows in System Preferences > Network > at the Router IP box ?

Some Contacts getting combined with others when syncing from google
I am having an issue where some of my contacts are getting merged when syncing from google.
For example I have 3 contacts:
Company 1 dispatch which has two phone numbers
Company 2 dispatch which has two phone numbers
Company 3 dispatch which has two phone numbers
On my Pre, I see two entries in contacts:
Company 1 dispatch which has two phone numbers
Company 2 dispatch which has four phone numbers
I can not search for company 3, but thier phone number appears under company 2.
Any ideas, suggestions,etc

View Solution.Same thing happens for me, AND when syncing with more than one service (ie google and facebook) my original contacts that I had entered into the phone prior to the synergy sync, get deleted. I had to take like 2 hours and create a new gmail account and add all of my contacts 1 by 1, and then sync the phone. VERY frustrating, and Im kind of annoyed that the pre doesn't work with Sprint's Mobile Sync.
Other than that I do love my Pre. ;o) -
Photos synced with iPhoto (through iTunes) ignore edits (syncs original)
Not sure if this should go here, or in the iPhoto forum...
I edited a batch of photos in iPhoto and put them in an Album. I setup iTunes to sync that Album with my iPhone. All the photos now appear on the phone, however the images on the phone are the "original" photos, not the edited versions that appear in the Album when viewing in iPhoto.
So, the photos in the iPhoto Album are not the photos that get synched to my iPhone.
Any ideas how to fix this?Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment. -

To transfer your photos:
Transfer and erase the Camera Roll:
Connect the iPad to your computer and launch Image Capture, iPhoto, or Aperture.
Select your iPad in the Devices list and click "Import all".
When the import finishes, you can erase the contents of the Camera Roll, if you want. That would be the quickest way, but deleting it on the iPad in the Photos.app would be safer, but more work.
Delete photos and video clips you synced to your computer using iTunes: Connect your device to your computer and, in iTunes, deselect the photos and video clips you want to remove from your device. Click Apply, and click Sync.

Running subVIs 3 different ways - some are incompatible with others... help please?
I've attached a bit of sample coad to show the problem... here's what you're looking for:
Buttons 1 and 2 or 1 and 3 can be run at the same time with no problems, but if you try and execute 2 and 3 at the same time, 3 fails...
I can't understand why this is, but I'd appreciate any explanation.
In the code, it's important to use the "diagram disable structure" to enable/disable 2 or 3 so that you can see the behavior.

multi_subVI_sub_00.vi 6 KBActually LabVIEW loads the entire Hierarchy at load time. So as soon as you open a VI all the subVIs are loaded, if they where not all loaded how would LabVIEW know if the VI was broken due to a subVI?
It can be memory inefficient but in all honest I rarely have had the VIs be the problem. Most Vis are very small in relation to your RAM or the data you are using. If I am having memory issues its normally huge arrays.
If you are really worried about memory footprint you could create a new SubVI that all it does is dynamically call the other VI. Then you can place that wherever and the VIs will only be loaded when needed. This will be a lot slower because now every time you call that SubVI the VIs will be loaded run and then unloaded.
As always you trade speed for memory, you just have to decide which is important. In this case I am leaning towards speed, like I said VI footprint is generally small. -
Can you share iCalander/Address Book with other users and restrict them from seeing certain entries?
I'm doing some research for my boss concerning iCloud. He would like to setup a way to syncronize iCalender and the Address Book between three users but keep his personal information private. For example, he wants to be able to update his calender from his phone about an upcoming meeting/project so that the three computers at work are all updated and see upcoming events. Same goes for the contacts. If he adds a new contact or if I add a new contact, for a client or whoever it may be, he wants it to sync up for everyone. At the same time, if he adds a personal event to iCal such as, "Dinner with the girlfriend" or something irrelevant to work, he doesn't employees to be able to see that. My first idea was to setup an iCloud account but I'm wondering if you can even restrict certain things within an account.
Anyone have any other ideas? They would be greatly appreciated.iCloud appears to provide no Address Book sharing. You might be able to do this through Google, but it would be likely to be all contacts or none.
iCloud allows you to share calendars privately (editable if you wish) to other iCloud users or publicly (non-editable) to anyone - they would need a CalDAV client to read it, such as iCal or Google Calendars.
You share individual calendars, so private events should be in their own calendar which is not shared.
