LR library cannot be on a network drive ... only when using Windows?

The technote
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=333660
describes a lock file for the library when using Macintosh.
According to the technote for Windows there should be no need for a lock file because no concurrent use of LR should be possible and LR refuses to create/access a database at a network drive.
What about Macintosh? Can the LR database be at a network drive when using Macintosh?

>"Can the LR database be at a network drive when using Macintosh?"
NO!

  • Requirement is to run CMD.EXE under the Local System Account. So that we can map a network drive to be used by a windows service, which will be created by command: - net use z: \\servername\sharedfolder /persistent:yes

    Environment:
    OS:  Windows 7 32/64 bit, Windows 2008 Server 64
    bit/ Windows 2012 Server 64 bit
    Priority:
    - Critical
    Requirement: - Since
the Windows Service is running under the Local System Account, we would like to emulate this same behaviour.
Basically, we would like to run CMD.EXE under the Local System Account. So that we can map a network drive to be used by a service using following
    command
    net use z: \\servername\sharedfolder /persistent:yes.
    Already Attempt:
We tried to launch the CMD.exe using the DOS Task Scheduler AT command.  Here’s a sample command:
    AT 10:36 /interactive cmd.exe
But I received a warning that “due
to security enhancements, this task will run at the time excepted but not interactively.”
It turns out that this approach will work for XP, 2000 and Server 2003 but due to session isolation
Interactive services no longer work on Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and above.
      2.  We
tried to create a secondary Windows Service via the Service Control (sc.exe) which merely launches CMD.exe.
    <Drive>:\sc create RunCMDAsLSA binpath= "cmd" type=own type=interact <Drive>:\sc
    start RunCMDAsLSA
In this case the service fails to start and results it the following error message:
FAILED 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
      3. One
suggestion, we found to launch CMD.exe via a Scheduled Task, but
it is not giving any option to launch CMD.exe in interactive mode; so that I can map network drive using net command.
      4. I read an article, which
demonstrates the use of PSTools from SysInternals. I launched the command line and executed following command
    psexec -i -s cmd.exe
PSTools worked fine, but It seems that in scope of Sysinternals Software License
Terms. You may not "use the software for commercial software hosting services."
Application will deploy on client, which will be like commercial,
so we are not able to use PSTools.
Kindly assist us for achieving the requirement. We have tried all the ways, but nothing is working for us. Kindly suggest.
    I will be really thankful.

    Hi Sir,
Nothing worked from above for us. You can see our remarks on posted query.
That’s why, we posted on forum.
And there will not be any vulnerability, because, if we will use "net
    use ..."
    in network domain; definitely,
we will provide username and password of mapped drive system.
And, that system, itself is given by client; so that, there must not be any vulnerability; they are ready to provide user name and password.
We need a way; by which we can complete the requirement. Kindly assist.

  • Help Please..Until recently I have owed 2 iPod Classics - 2007 80gb and 2009 160gb (which has since been returned). How do I transfer the library from the 160 to the 80gb in iTunes using Windows Vista (ie merge the 2 libraries)? Thanks

Until recently I have owed 2 iPod Classics - 2007 80gb and 2009 160gb (which has since been returned as it had a very noisy hard drive).
How do I transfer the library from the 160gb  to the 80gb in iTunes using Windows Vista.
Nothing seems to help on the Apple support pages, so any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply, but not actually sure how to sync a second iPod with the library of the first, as I thought it would not recognise a new iPod for copyright reasons.
Also, the files are in a location on the pc but I had to do lots of formatting amendments in iTunes as most of the stuff was on mp3 files and the formatting was all over the place. I did not want to loose any of the work by simply asking the new iPod to look at the original file and would rather copy en masse from one device to another.
Any help or pointers greatly appreciated
    Thanks

  • I cannot open pdf files from one supplier when using Adobe Reader but I can using another Viewer

I cannot open pdf files from one supplier when using Adobe Reader but I can open it if using Google PDF viewer or another viewer. The Adobe reader gives the error "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired" when I try to open the file. The version of Adobe Reader is 10.1.7, however I have tried other versions and they all fail the same way.  I have tested on a number of different PC's in different networks and all fail using Adobe Reader but work using alternate viewer. Also the PC's will open a PDF from any other source.

Newer Reader versions are more strict than older versions (and other PDF viewers).  If certain minimum requirements are not met, Reader will tell you that the PDF is damaged.  This can happen when a document was created with software that does not adhere to PDF standards, or when the file was damaged during a download or email transmission.
You should contact the creator of these PDFs.

  • Cannot map a domain network drive. Unknown anomaly

    Dear Technet!
I have a very annoying problem. We a have a Win2008R2 domain. Many domain client desktops and laptops, and some "out of domain" laptops. The problem is connected to the last ones. Everything is fine to map a shared server folder, because everyone
has a domain access instead of the client is domain or out of domain PC. Of corse I have to set manual the out of domain PC's network drives.
BUT we bought a Fujitsu Lifebook P Series laptop with Windows 7 Professional (it is an out of domain client) and I confronted with an anomaly.
When I manualy want to map a network drive it not change the domain!
    The steps:
-Right click at Computer-> Map network drive
-I selected the Letter and type the shared folder: \\server1\folder1
-NOW it is ask the authentication process BUT
Normaly when I type the username with domain mydomain\username it should change the PC's name to the domain name like: JoeysLaptop --to--> MyDomain
And the problem is here. It NOT changes, and I cannot map the drive, because it say cannot find this path. In every else W7Pro laptop its working fine, but this one. Internet connection working. Pings are working, DNS working.
I checked the firewall settings, the services, the sharing center (public and home&work) file and printersharing and the networkscan is ON, the NetBIOS over TCP/IP is ok. So I am out of ideas. The other laptops are working fine with mapping, but this
one. Same OEM Win7Pros like this, but this is not working.
I do not realy want to reinstall with corporate windows, but that is my last option.
What settings are wrong and where should I search it?
    Can anyone help me?
    thank you,
    Árpád Juhász

    Hi,
Are you able to connect to or access that network drive or shared folder? When you map the drive, make sure the computer you're trying to connect to is turned on and you have correct permission to perform this action.
Or try to use net use command to map the drive and check if it works.

  • ITunes library repair/moving to external network drive

Hello all, I wonder if you can help.  I have searched high and low for a solution to my situation, but to no avail, and so you really are my last hope.  I've been trying to get my iTunes library in order for quite a while and things have gone wrong, and it has really got me down as I'm worried I'm about to have to start again from scratch.  It has taken me about 6 weeks (spread out over the course of a few months) to rip the 18,000 tracks in my library, then another month or so to get all the metadata right, weed out duplicates, etc.  However, the music collection is so big I have had to place it on a network drive in batches (which has the benefit of being able to access it on any laptop at home - but whatever I do iTunes just doesn't like it.
I can't actually bring myself to recount everything I've done as it's a bit upsetting so I thought I might just summarise the situation that I'm now in to see if anyone could help.  I would be very grateful.
I now have a network drive with an iTunes style folder structure within it's music folder, and within that artist/album/song.wav file path.  For reasons I'll explain later I have many MP3s, a few AACs, and *lots* of WAV files - which sadly, don't hold track metadata, otherwise I could have just re-imported all the files into a new iTunes library.  However correct metadata and having the files as WAVs are vital (again, I'll explain later), so it's not something I can change.
I have moved iTunes libraries before when I have moved PCs without any hitches, by moving the music folders and files and doing a search and replace in the library file to point to the new locations.  I thought this would be the same situation.  It's complicated by the fact that I had been hoping to put the music files and library on the network drive so that iTunes on my Mac and PC would be able to access it and write back metadata changes, play counts and so on.
I've not been able to work out how to do this as file paths to the network drive differ on both OS's - Windows paths are more like \\DISKSTATION\Music\ etc etc whereas Mac ones are more like file://localhost/Volumes/Music etc etc
I don't understand networking very well so quickly gave up on the idea of trying to get my library to work off two machines with two OSs (though is someone can explain how/if this is possible, I'd like to try it again).
Now I was left trying to get the library to work with iTunes on either just the Mac or just the PC, and I haven't managed it yet.  When I have been experimenting with amending the file paths in the library and opening it iTunes again I get little WiFi style icons, like the ones you see in the radio section of iTunes - indicating an audio stream - next to every track, and if you click play, it tries to open the track - but doesn't - and keeps trying.  It does this on both machines.  I've tried windows style file paths on the PC, and Mac ones with OSX, I've tried referring to the drive's network IP address and so on - but can't get it to work.  Most of the time it behaves as described above.  Some times it deletes the whole library and starts again from scratch.  At present the file seems to have reverted to the point after I had added all my tracks but before I'd amended the metadata.
(I have a backup of the library file with all the correct data in it, but pointing to files in the wrong places, so I am happy to experiment.)
I've read a lot of threads on similar external drive nightmares people have been having, and it is often mentioned elsewhere to consolidate the files to the iTunes folder once you have told iTunes of the new location, but this wouldn't have been practical - there was over 400gb of them to move over a (relatively) slow network.  And I can't consolidate now with the music files on the network drive as iTunes has all the information in the library, it just seems to not be able to find the files.
So my question is what am I doing wrong and/or how can I fix the library to point to the files in the new location?  It must be possible as I have a version of the XML file with all the artist/album/filename.wav structure intact - it's just getting the bit before it correct and getting iTunes to accept the library once I've amended it.  Is there a way to get my library to recognise the files on the network drive properly - even just on one machine?
I would be happy to start reloading tracks into a new, clean library but there is no metadata WITHIN the wav files like there is in the MP3 and WAVs and so I'll be left with a lot of wavs that aren't titled properly (and I really can't face going back and adding the titles and artists for thousands of tracks again).  Before moving the library I *did* rename the files with artist - track - genre - year etc. etc. information - so if there was a way for iTunes to rebuild the library with information from the filename, I'd be happy to try it.  But even the great Doug's iTunes Scripts website can't even offer anything like that.
To explain the point about the files being all WAVs - the files are going to be used for broadcast and so need to be in the best quality in a format that can be opened - FLAC won't work.  And similarly, the metadata is important as it will be used in a professional situation too.
Any help would be gratefully received as if this doesn't work I seriously think I will stop buying music as I don't want to add to the problem!  I can't face months of ripping everything in again.  I'm so fed up.

Yes it's quite possible, that's how I have mine set up, and Moving iTunes Music will tell you how to go about it.
Pitfalls? Can't really think of any.

  • OVI Suite STILL cannot sync to a network drive

What is the point of having a support forum when everything gets ignored!
What is the point of having a feedback system when it all gets ignored!
I tried to select a network drive to sync photos and videos to but it wouldn't let me! I google it only to find that in this same forum, the question has been asked and AN EMPLOYEE from Nokia suggested they'll add it. This was over 10 months ago and still in this new version, nothing has been done on that front!! I still cannot select a network drive to sync photos and videos! I can't sync to the local drive cause frankly, the space available on the N8 is more than on the local drive!!
For how long will you go on ignoring us like this???
I have been a passionate defender of Nokia since 2001 till literally 5mins ago when after downloading the new OVI suite, a simple task like syncing contacts crashes OVI time and time again.
I can't select a network drive to sync to, all my support posts for the N8 have so far been ignored!!
Do you guys actually have any software testers in the company?? Why is it that anything to do with software, you get it so horribly wrong. Whoever is running that bit of the company needs to be fired and new brains brought into the mix!
I love Nokia as a company as they're full of ideas and potential but the software guys will spell doom for you! If something so simple like syncing contacts can be missed and the software is allowed to be released to the public with that very obvious bug!! Can't you just have it so things JUST WORK?!?!
My N8 is riddled with very simple and obvious bugs that I don't know how it passed. e.g screensaver not coming on when you lock the phone - you have no idea how annoying this bug is. Also for some reason, all my widgets are now about 20% bigger meaning the contents don't fit within the confines of the widget space and information is cut off!!
I am so **bleep** with the whole company right now I'm on the brink of just throwing it all away and saying goodbye to Nokia for ever!
But fortunately, my hatred for Steve Jobs is even more and can't be bothered with Android!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SORT ALL THIS NIGGLING THINGS OUT!!!

you can find the path in the windows registry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nokia\Nokia Ovi Suite\{D995DE8A-1556-45a3-BC7A-568E63663F25}\PcPath]
or just search the registry for the path shown in the 'Photos folder location' shown in the ovi suite.
or search the registry for the value 'photos path'

  • Cannot print file to network drive.

Hello...I've searched the forum and have not seen this specific question.  My company recently upgraded to Windows 7 and we use Acrobat X.  When we print from something such as Outlook, Word, notepad, etc., then select Adobe PDF as the printer...then select the location to print to as a network drive, it always fails.  The printer icon has a yellow sign with an exclamation point, and when you open the printer properties, it just says "Error printing".  If you select a local drive, such as C:\temp, it works fine.  It's not a permission issue, because I have full admin rights, and it still fails.  We have multiple users trying to do this, and it's the same for everyone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This part is not working when you choose a location other than a local disk.
opening document to print > selecting adobe pdf printer > saving file to network drive > print
The job sits in the print queue, stating an error and I not been able to determine what the error is.
What I did just find out that worked is using the Acrobat Office addin "Create PDF".  I am running office 2007.

  • Cannot install DVD/CD ROM drive after upgrading from Windows 7

I had a working DVD/CD-ROM drive before upgrading. Now it shows as Unknown Device in Device Manager, I tried uninstalling it and then scanned for hardware changes but it still does not work. I also tried manually selecting a CD-ROM drive for it but it
ends up with an error code 31. I also checked for {4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} registry but it did not have lowerfilters key. How do I install the driver for it?

    Hi,
The error code 31 means that Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.
Considering that this issue mostly can be caused by compatible issue.
Please check if you can fine the latest driver from Manufacturer’s website. If so, try to install it under Windows 10 compatibility mode: Right click the installer of the driver, choose Properties, choose Windows 7 under Compatibility
    mode to install.
If the CD device still fails to work, I recommend to check the setupapi.dev.log under %windir%\inf, locate the device and find the line below:
    dvi:             Rank         - 0x00000000
Then, corresponds the score in this link:
    Identifier Score
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff546297(v=vs.85).aspx
The value 0x00003000 is the best identifier score and the value 0x00003FFF is the worst identifier score.
The score near 0x00003FFF means that the driver and device may not compatible with current system, we may need to wait for the menufacturer’s driver update.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Unable To See Network Drive from outside Home Network..even when using DynDNS

    Hi
I have just got a Freecom Media storage Network Center which I have attached to my WRT150N router.
I am attemting to permit access to authorised users to files on the drive via the internet (presumably via ftp).
Here is what I have done:
Swiitched on DynDNS on the web admin page in the router (used DynDNS.com free service.
Obtained a user addess which is middle-earth.dyndns-home.com from DynDNS, which is linked to my Virgin Media IP
Switched on Port Range forwarding with
    Ports 20-21 as ftp
    Port 80 as http
    Port 57 as DNS
    Selected "both protocols"
Set the IP address to route to 192.168.1.42 - (this is the IP address which the web based software for the Network Drive reports as.
However the configuration of the TCP/IP protocol in PC attached by LAN cable to the router is "Obtain an IP address automatically" (i.e. dynamic?).  If I change these settings and specify static IP addresses   will I not muck up internet connection to Virgin Media.
what I was hoping to acheive was typing     ftp:// middle-earth.dyndns-home.com
in the address bar would let me see the network drive from anywhere!
I have tried using DNS pinging on Ports 20, and 21 but that tells my ports are closed.  i have also tried switching off my software firewall (Kaspersky) and the router firewall, but this does nothing.
What have I done wrong or no done!!
    Thanks

I think the problem is solved.
The Freecom device needs to use a different part of its interface to be assigned a static IP address, which I have now done.  At my last try it was visible from two independent views outside of my network.
On another front, I am appalled at Linksys or Cisco, who are not prepared to advice on getting more from their produicts if they are 'out of warranty'.  The online chat tech said I could ring an 0871 premium line number in the UK.  When I rang that, I was told as tthat as my unit is not faulty and was out of warranty I would have to use their pay per incident  service.
That is not a way to deal with customers.  When it comes to upgrading or replacing network equipment, I will look to a provider who is interested in their customers.

  • Network drives in the finder window

In the sidebar of any finder window under the "Shared" area that list the volumes that my laptop can access. Can someone please explain why I can see my network drives as servers with IP address and as sharepoints with the name that I've given the drives? Example:
    192.168.1.22
    Bkupstarbase
These two items are the same unit. Up until recently I was also able to see my Maxtor drive the same way (as IP address and as its name, Starfleet). Now I only get Starfleet and I can not get it to mount as an IP address. For awhile I was getting lots of errors saying that the drive could not mount, and I would get "Starfleet" but not the IP address. I removed the Quickstart SW from my computer and that seems to have stopped the errors (and maybe the IP address too?). Seem I can access the unit with out problems but I'm wonder why OS10.5 is doing this new way of seeing the drives. Anyone that can help me understand, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
    DMW
Also, how does one get pictures into these messages? I've copied some things with grab but I can't figure out how to get them in here. Thanks

I think Finder thinks that anything in the Sidebar is mounted. A Dock icon or alias might work.

  • Mounting network drive failing when launched with "crontab"...

    Greetings!
    Here's my problem:
I have a cron job (domain user) that launch a perl script.
Somewhere in the script, I mount a network drive like this: "/sbin/mount_smbfs //user:pw@machine/path"
I get the following error: mount_smbfs: server connection failed: broken pipe.
-If I ssh to the mac, manually execute the Perl script, no problem, the drive is mounted and I am happy. But it constantly fails if I am not logged in.
As a workaround, I tried to make my user automatically logged in when the Mac restart. But what do you know? Not working with my (domain) user. But it works fine with any other local users.
    Any ideas?
