Lr Misplaces Edited files and now I can't locate them...

I have this problem a lot. Lr "misplaces" my files and I can't get them back without getting them one by one. It seems ridiculous to me. Now I'm against a deadline (of course) and can't reach anyone. Can anyone out there help me locate my EDITED files? Even Lr can't locate the edited files and I haven't deleted them from my computer. I'm so frustrated. Thanks.

Thanks, Jim. Not sure why the insults started coming into play. I was
asking for help. Simply. Not to be insulted, degraded, put down. Just
helped. You have been helpful. Thank you. I was formally trained in Ps
years ago, pre- digital age. I came to Lr 2.5 years ago. It's a great
program and I use it mostly unless I need some of my preferred more
detailed features of Ps. I sat down and watched the essential videos from
Adobe. It's just a filing glitch on my part. I just needed help. However,
after this overall experience, I will be hard pressed to seek out help from
the Adobe Forums. I hope people will be kinder and patient with others in
the future.
I was not trying to put you down, degrade or insult you.
The help you are looking for is because you don't understand how LR works. LR doesn't SAVE files anywhere. You can Export files from it and when you do that it asks you, allows you, to select where those exported files will be placed. It also includes those exported file in the catalog no matter where you exported them to, IE which drive connected to your system in some way.
The edits you do in LR are only for LR until you export images. Then those edits are combined with the original file during the export and placed wherever you select.
I asked some fairly simple questions.
1) Are you importing images from a camera directly or a card reader.
2) Are you importing to only one catalog or are you making multiple catalogs.
In the years I've used LR, since version 1 (and like Jim I didn't care for it at the start) I have never had to Re-import any images I have made adjustments to and either exported as a jpg, tiff or dng or sent to Photoshop as a tiff to make further edits. They all show in the catalog, they all get saved to the original folder I placed the original in when I copied them to my hard drive. Even if I chose to place them in a different folder on a different drive they would still be included in my catalog.
Sorry if I offended you.
Best of luck. I'm out of here.

  • I moved the project files and now I can't get them back into iMovie 11

I was working on a project but I ran out of disk space before I could finish it. Now, for this very purpose, I have an external hard drive with plenty of space on it. So I tried moving the folder with all my project files onto the external hd, and now iMovie can't find my project anymore. With iMovie '06 it was as simple as hitting "save as" and saving the project to the external hd, but I guess that's not complicated enough for the new version. Now I can't get into my project. I even try clicking on the actual project file, and it goes to iMovie as if the project was about to open, but nothing happens. So I fear I wasted a lot of time working on that project only to have to start all over because I ran out of disk space.
Someone please tell me there's a way to get the project files open again. Thanks

that is a simple one and should be a routine after purchasing a new drive (in a Mac-only environment!):
    • on your Mac, Apps/Utilities you'll find Disk 'Utility'
    • on the left lane, you'll notice your connected hard drive(s)
    • select it, click on the 'erase' tab
    • NOTE: FORMATTING A DRIVE MEANS ERASING ALL CONTENT ON THAT DRIVE!
that's why you should do it as step#1 after purchasing a new drive

  • I Trashed Some Song Files from my Computer that Had Been Previously Matched, and Now iTunes Can't Located Them. How Do I Download Them from the Cloud?

The title pretty much says it all. I deleted some songs from my hard drive that had already been added to the cloud using iTunes Match, and now, when I try to play them, I'm asked to locate the files. The songs are still available on my other devices, so I didn't delete them from the cloud. How do I reconect the songs on my computer with the files in the cloud?

Apple provides a brain-dead simple way to backup all your personal data in the form of Time Machine that keeps incremental backups going back at least several weeks, if not months (depending on the size of the backup drive). Why more people don't use it is a puzzle to me. In this day and age of person, and very important, data being digitial (sometimes exclusively) backing everything up becomes imperative. Ideally a good backup scheme should incorporate multiple backup solutions in case of very serious emergencies, but for most people, and in the case described in the OP TM is a very good solution. If a file is deleted, then found to be needed again, just go to the date and time in TM just before the file was deleted and restore it. Simple. But it doesn't work if you aren't backing up. So... backup, backup, backup. You'll thank yourself that you did when you finally need it.

  • I erased my ipod songs and I'llcontents by accident while syncing and now I can't locate them in my files. How can I retrieve them.

How can I locate my itunes songs. While I was syncing my ipod I accidently erased my songs and contents. Everything was on my eternal hard drive. Now when I click on the songs it can't locate the songs. I checked everywhere.

Locating missing songs http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ go to "iTunes library and back-up" and then "finding lost media and downloads"
Did you delete them on your external hard drive? Then you should use a backup of that hard drive or maybe you could try to transfer purchases back from your iPod to your iTunes on your PC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848

Other than iMovie, GB always incorporates the audio files into the GB package. So just save or move the GB project to the external drive, and you're done - anything you import, edit or record will be saved to the external drive.

  • I have existing projects made in iMovie and now I can't play them or edit them... any idea what's going on? Thank you

I have existing projects made in iMovie and now I can't play them or edit them... any idea what's going on? P/s M preview window is totally blank.  I can't figure out what went wrong. Thank you

For iMovie to see your projects, they must be in a certain place. If they are on your startup internal hard drive, they must be in the Movies/iMovie Projects/ folder. If they are on an external drive, they must be in the iMovie Projects/ folder at the top level of the drive. Is it possible that your projects have been moves somewhere else?

  • I lost my images from my hard drive and now I can not access them in Lightroom. What can I do?

I lost my images from my hard drive and now I can not access them in Lightroom. What can I do?

Your images are truly no longer present on the hard drive(s)? Have you had your operating system do a search for them?
If such a search fails to find them, here's what I would do, in order
Look in the trash can/recycle bin
    Restore from backups
If you don't have backups ... well, why not? ... find a program on the internet called an "undelete utility" (free versons are available) and then download and install it and run it. If you are going to do this, then do not perform any other tasks on your computer except find the program, download it (if possible to a different drive than the photos were stored on), install it (if possible to a different drive than the photos were stored on), and run it. In the future, you will need to commit to making regular backups of your photos and of your Lightroom catalog file, no excuses.
If that doesn't work, but the thumbnails still appear in Lightroom, you can probably recover the thumbnails from Lightroom via a plug-in, but these would be low-resolution versions of your photos, if you really need instructions on this step, write back

  • I deleted some videos on my ipad before synching with my library, and now I can't find them.  How can i get them back?

I deleted some videos on my ipad before synching with my library, and now I can't find them.  How can i get them back?

Do you live in the United States? If you do then you can download them again for free - as long as the movies are available for free downloads. Apple has not forged agreements with every movie studio yet so you just have to check.
Launch iTunes, and tap on the purchased tab. In the upper left corner you will see a "View" button. Tap that in order to toggle among music, TV Shows and Movies. Select Movies and then see if the movies appear. If they do, tap the Movie icon and then tap the cloud icon next to the icon in order to begin the download.
You have to use the same Apple ID that you used to purchase them.
If you do not live in the U.S. then you will have to purchase them again.

  • I closed all the taskbars at the top and now I can't get them back.

I closed all the task bars at the top (so now there is only the blue strip that says 'Firefox - Mozilla Firefox' and the tabs) and now I can't get them back. Tried right clicking everywhere and all the options (right click Firefox in the start menu) but I can't get it back. It's driving me insane - I've got no forward/back buttons, no address bar, no favourites, nothing!
