LR Mobile as Backup for iPhone

I switched to LR a year ago and pleased with the results. I also recently installed LR Mobile on my iPad and now iPhone. Because I have a legacy file structure I leave my files in my computers file system and import referenced files. I have used Dropbox and Google Plus to backup my iPhone and iPad pictures but with LR Mobile I can turn on auto import which puts the files into a Mobile lrcat file which I don't entirely understand but I believe stores the original files into a lightroom readable file on my desktop computer. Because my desktop is backed up to both an external hard drive and the cloud (plus I backup my LR catalog to Dropbox), I think this means I can stop the Dropbox and Google Plus backups of my phone/iPad even if I subsequently delete the images from these devices. Is this correct? BTW, I really like LR Mobile.

If you deleted it you can't recover the backup. If your device is in a known-good state, just back it up again and iCloud will capture it as it looks now can create a new backup.
If your iPhone is not in a good state and you're trying to restore to the deleted backup, you're out of luck. But if you backed up to iTunes you would have a copy there, but it could be too old to be useful to you.

No, not unless you have a backup for the important data on your Mac stored on an external drive or some other external media that includes the iPhone's backup.

Restoring pics from mac mobile sync backup to iphone?

I updated my iphone to the newest version without thinking and lost all my pics and videos from camera roll
I found them on the macbook under gibberish named files in Library>app support>mobile sync>backup
I would like to get the pics and videos on the phone again. But I suspect that cant happen unless I move them somewhere easier to find on macbook for syncing Any suggestions? Easiest way to solve the problem?

Jailbreaking and "hacking" to unlock are in fact two different items. Many phones are "hacked" to unlock them but, not jailbroken. Read through this article to understand the iphone restore process. "Choose a backup to restore. This will restore only the contacts, calendars, text messages, and settings, not the iPhone firmware." The iphone firmware is NOT included in your phone's backup. Part of the process of restoring an iphone is the verification process with Apple's servers, which your phone will fail. As I've already stated, ANY ATTEMPT to update software or restore an iphone that has been hacked to unlock it will re-lock the phone to the carrier it was originally locked to. As to the fact that your phone is also jailbroken, I don't know what will happen. You could end up with a brick.

[solved] missing latest backups for iPhone after getting replacement phone

Thought I would share this one in case anyone else runs into it.
My the speaker on my wife's iPhone 4 on Verizon had stopped working for phone calls for the second time and a restore didn't fix it, so she returned the phone and they gave her a new one at the store. We had made several backups over the last few days, the most recent was this morning.
So tonight we hooked up the new phone to iTunes and got ready to restore it, but iTunes said the restore was last updated in FEBRUARY. What?! My wife freaked out thinking all her photos etc. were now lost for good.
I held off on the restore and decided to do some checking around before doing anything. I found the folder where the restore files are, and sure enough I found files from today. I copied that folder just in case. I also checked in iTunes itself and the backups were listed. So what was up?!
It finally occured to me that we had recently upgraded her phone to iOS 5, but that the new iPhone 4 from the store was probably still on iOS 4 -- maybe iTunes was not smart enough to see this situation and tell us about it, and maybe it won't listed iOS 5 backups for an iOS 4 phone.
Well that turned out to be the case. But what to do to fix it? I figured if I could get iOS 5 onto the phone, we would be all set. But I didn't want to tell iTunes to label it as a new phone either -- I'm not sure if that would be permanent or what. So I took a leap of faith and held down the power button and home button simultaneously for a while, past the power off notification, until the phone prompted to be connected to iTunes to be restored.
Then I plugged it back into the computer (this is Windows 7, by the way). Sure enough iTunes said it detected a phone in recovery mode, and would I like to have iTunes restore it to factory settings and put on the latest iOS? I sure would, so I did that and waited...
After that was done, iTunes wanted me to active the phone with Verizon. We had already done that an hour earlier over the phone, but tried it anyway, and it failed. We ignored that failure and went into the phone in iTunes -- it now asked if it was a new phone or if we should restore it -- and the backup from this morning was listed. Phew!
Finally completed the restore. I noticed that all of the passwords for all apps were lost -- unlike with a normal restore/backup on the same phone -- but everything else (pcitures, apps, etc.) was there. Thank goodness!
So, if you have upgraded the iOS version and have to replace your phone and the nreplacement has an older iOS verison, then that may explain why your backups appear to be missing...

Yes, I tried. But nothing is working. I am feeling bad as such a costly phone stop working in 1.4 year ?

I am not ranting but yes angry as I am eligible for upgrade in Nov 2012 so don't want to pay $149 for replacement as I can upgrade to iPhone 5.

Not sure what Cisco Unified Mobility product you were referring to.
"Cisco Unified Mobility" is the feature on CUCM that provides SNR (Single Number Reach), MVA (Mobile Voice Access) and EFA (Enterprise Feature Access). It has nothing to do with iPhone or Droid.

ITunes Backup for iPhone

I backup my iPhone 4 regularly. When I open up the restore from backup in iTunes I can clearly see the latest backup PLUS two others - one about a month ago and one about 2 months ago.
What happened to all the backups I did in between my backup today and the one done 1 month ago (since there were several).

Old news. Plus just as easy to not mess with configuration and just click the little X on the status when it says backing it, it will cancel it and move on to syncing. Thus leaving it still able to back up when you have time to allow it since you REALLY SHOULD backup now and then.

Need help with backup for iphone 4

hey all,
i just upgraded to IOS 5.1.1, and i was pretty mad to find out all my contacts were wiped out after i did this. so i plugged it in my computer, went into iTunes, and tried to restore from backup...well, that would have worked out fine, except it keeps restoring to an old back up from April 17...no matter what i do! i'm trying to use a backup from May 20.
So here's what i'm doing, if anyone can give me insight, by all means!
Restore from backup > iphone name: (here on the drop down list, i see my phone name and various dates including april 17, 2012, and may 20, 2012, which is the date of back up i am trying to use. below the drop down menu, it reads "Last Backed Up: 4/17/2012". but if there are more recent dates listed in the dropdown, doesn't it mean the last back up was whatever date listed in the dropdown??
at any rate, i choose the may 20 back up, and i get a pop up window that says "A more recent backup from 4/17/12 is available for the iphone..." and gives me the option of "use newer backup" or "use older backup". well even if i click the newer backup, it only uses the 4/17/12 backup, not may 20 one. if i click older backup, it gives me a backup from a LONG time ago.
so does this mean i don't actually have a backup from may 20?? i see that the file from 5/20/12 is there when i go to my mobilesync > backup folder on my computer...so i dont get what the problem is. i even tried deleting the 4/17/12 folder from there, and went back into itunes...no luck.
i dont think the upgrade in IOS shoudl be affecting this? afterall both of the backups i listed were both of the old IOS...

You do know that contacts are NOT part of the iTunes backup, right? The only part of contacts that get backed up is the information needed to maintain your favorites and recent call log.
Contacts are meant to live permanently on your computer (Outlook, Address Book) or a cloud-service (Google, iCloud) for safekeeping and archival.
Sounds like you might not have been using your phone as recommended and that your contacts are gone. That's unfortunate. Now might be a good time to review the User Guide to refamiliarize yourself with the way you should be using your phone to minimize data loss in the future.

Urgent - Unable to find last backup for iPhone 4 in iTunes

I would be grateful if someone could please help me urgently.
Earlier this week I made a backup of my iPhone 4 in iTunes. In actual fact I did this several times in order to make sure that the backup was saved. I have since upgraded iOS to 5.1.1 which for some reason also required me to use the restore function as the phone wouldn't start after the upgrade.
My problem now is that I cannot find the backup made in iTunes, even though there is a folder with correct modified date within the iTunes backup folder. What complicates things even more is that within this folder there seem to be files for two backups, the one made earlier this week and one which was made last year.
I have of course kept a copy of the full iTunes folder from before I did the upgrade, but I am now unable to recover the backup even after deleting the files for the older version. If I leave only the files with a modification date from earlier this week, I choose does find the backup but marks it as unknown and will not use it to restore the phone.
I would be grateful if anyone could suggest a way around this. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, sinking my iPad and then trying to reconnect my iPhone (this has worked in the past to resolve the issue of the backup not showing up) all to no avail. The only data I desperately need other text messages and notes, all other important data is backed up to iCloud. I'm not worried about individual applications as these can be downloaded over time as needed. Incidentally, if it is of any help the size of the folder which contains what I think is the backup from earlier this week after deleting all older files is 79 MB.

That means exactly what it says. Your computer is not Authorized to the Apple ID account that the content was purchased with. If your iTunes is logged in to an Apple ID you must log out, then log in using the same Apple ID that the content was purchased with. Then go to the Store menu and choose Authorize.

How to find or bypass the password for unlock backup for iphone with mac?

My Iphone is not working for some reason and i realy need the information that was on it.
I have a backup in my itune and i tried to download it to my ipod using the "restore from backup" option.
Unfortuanlty, it asked me for a backup password which i've never put and without it i can't get into my backup information.
Is there any way to bypass it or find the password somehow?
I've tried to find it in the keychain accses (i'm using mac) but didn't find anything there
it is realy frustrating..

If it asks for a backup password you or someone else put one on it. Without the password there is no way you can recover the backup.
But -- is is asking for the backup password, or for the phone password? You cannot restore a backup from one phone to another phone without the unlock code for the phone. This is to prevent someone from stealing your data.
But in general, if there was a way around a password what would be the point of having a password?

Where are backups for iPhone, iPad placed

When I sync my iPhone or iPad, iTunes always backups, which is great. Where can I find those files or folders.

There are no music or apps or vids in the backup that itunes performs when syncing.
It is certainly no substitute for the regular backup of your computer that you should be performing.

Cisco Mobile 8.1 for iPhone - Help with features please

We have just upgraded to 8.0.3 and have added the iPhone cop file so we can have Mobile up and running.
So far we have managed to get 8.1 working fine on 3 iPhones successfully with the basics but have not managed the following:
1) Corporate directory access. We are not integrated with AD and have read that iPhone app cannot pull the end user directory. Is there another way apart from integrating with LDAP as we have a lot of users in the end user directory that do not have profiles in AD and I presume they will all get disabled as soon as we integrate..
2) GSM handoff - I have been going through the config to get this up and running and any tips would be very much appreciated.Do you need to add a directory number for the handoff number or is the config as simple as 2 boxes? (Call routing>Mobility configuration - Handoff number and Partition)
3) Voicemail - Is it possible to have voicemail if we are not running connection. We have version 7 of standard unity...

In my opinion you have a routing problem. Please check if a VPN client knows the route to the other VPN client. Print route on a VPN laptop. Check gateway for the given IP range (default or static route).
Then on your internal routing equipment you must have route for your VPN ip range configured.
If I'm not wrong you cannot ask your VPN box to route traffic directly between 2 established tunnels. It must first go outside first tunnel and then revert back to VPN concentrator and enter second tunnel.
Signaling differs from RTP because it goes through the SIP proxy and not p2p, so that's why it rings.

ICloud backup for iPhone missing

i recently had trouble with the battery on my iphone 4s i took it instore. They advised me to do an icloud backup then totally wipe the phone and leave it like that for a week. I did as instructed and the problem was still there so under warranty was given a new phone. When i have come to restore from my iCloud backup it is not there, however there are backups from today, yesterday and Monday. Does anyone know if i have lost this completely? i have tried downloading the new software on the new iphone and still no joy.

IMac with OS X 10.5.8, iTunes 10.6.3 - and now i can't make a backup for iPhone 4s

I have bought an Iphone 4S and want to make a backup to get my old dates. But, my iMac has Version 10.5.8 - and doesn't allow me to install iTunes 11.1. which is requestet from the iphone to make the backup. What can I do??

If it's an Intel iMac, upgrade the computer to Mac OS X 10.6.3 and then 10.6.8 and make the backup.
If it's a PowerPC Mac, you can't back the device up to the computer but may be able to back it up to iCloud.
