LR not recognizing external disc as external.

When I updated LR from 1 to 2, I found that it decided that my external disc (LaCie D2 Quadra, USB connection) was actually internal. It is listed as Macintosh HD/Users/Volumes/Firewire 500Gb.
I asked at the time for any ways to correct this, but despite all the excellent suggestions I have not managed it. Now I am trying again, because it is really really irritating me...
My latest attempt was to move the whole folder to a different (identical) external disc, and then tell LR that's where they were. But LR decided that was also a subfolder of the laptop's disc.
Any further suggestions?...

What do you mean by "it": do you mean the whole photo folder? That's a big move... But if you want I'll try it.
I thought perhaps the best thing to try is to move it to another external disc, which perhaps LR might recognise as external. I already did this one way, by copying all the photo files to another disc, disconnecting the old external disc and then telling LR the files were now on the other disc. It successfully found all the files on the other disc, but then showed that disc as a subfolder of the laptop's disc - as it had the first disc. So no change.
How does one move the original files onto a disc which is not yet listed in the LR "Folders" pane? Choosing "Add Folder" seems to assume you want to import anything on their, which I don't necessarily. But is that the only way to add a folder? Do I choose that then cancel the import of other stuff on that disc?
I could find a blank external disc and try to add it and see if it comes up as a real external disc, then move the files onto it, format the original disc and then do the same in reverse, perhaps?...
If you want a screen shot of the Folders panel I can of course do that.

Ipod not recognized when using an external hardrive, please help me!

I have a 4 gig ipod mini, I have been using it for over a year with no problems. recently, my computer will not recognize my ipod when it is plugged in with my external hardrive. I have chosen to keep all of my music on a 100 gig external hardrive, because I have a lot of it. when I plug my ipod into my computer and run Itunes my computer will recognize my ipod, open itunes and then the program will freeze. i can also plug in my external hardrive and when i do my ipod is not recognized by the computer at all. Macbook not recognizing USB ports from external monitor.

I have a Dell Monitor hooked up to the VGA port and have several items (printer, external hard drive) hooked into the ports on the Dell monitor. My Macbook is not recognizing the things that are plugged into the monitor.
These ports were working at one point but when I moved my setup and had to plug everything back in I can't get the USB ports on the monitor to work.
Along the same lines...I tried connecting the monitor to my laptop with a USB cable (female port from back of monitor to male port on Macbook) along with the VGA port. This did not fix the problem but I just wanted to know (had my laptop been recognizing the ports) if this was even necessary.
Since this setup has worked before I'm thinking it is something small that I am missing but any help would be appreciated.

Why is Time Machine not recognizing my same old external hard drive?

Have been using an Iomega eGo portable external hard drive for a couple years now and am recently getting a pop-up that says it's not formatted, but I've used it regularly in the past and it does in fact hold all previous back ups, so not sure what has changed. The attachment shows TM turned off but I'm getting the same message with it turned on as well as after unplugging it all and restarting. Still in Mavericks 10.9.5 as not ready to switch to Yosemite til this is done. Thank you for all help!

ITunes Not Recognizing Original Files from External Backup

I restored my iTunes library from my old desktop computer, and it's on an external backup. I added the files/folders to my library (some 3,000 songs) but they will only play while the backup is plugged in.
The error said iTunes couldn't locate the original file.
Am I importing them incorrectly?
In the meantime, I had to factory restore my new laptop. Apple restored my iTunes purchases, but before I restore my library again from the backup, I want to get it right. I don't want to have to plug in the external drive every time I want to play a song.
Can anyone help?

You have to select "Copy files to iTunes music folder" under Preferences -> Advanced -> General, or else iTunes will just link to your files. (This means you will have to re-import your songs, though)

External hard disc not recognized

I have been using a WD external hard disc with Time Machine. Today I had it plugged into a USB powered hub when the house electrical power briefly went off then on, twice. A message appeared stating that device was removed incorrectly (or words to that effect). Now the HD does not appear on the desktop. It is recognized in "about this computer" as a USB device. It is not recognized in disc utility and thus can not be mounted.
All suggestions appreciated.

Answered my own question. Working now. Connected directly to computer USB and ignored it for a couple of hours and now it is visible on the desktop and appears to be working.

External hard drive not recognized, or recognized as RAW

I have the Pavillon desktop running Windows 7 and have been having trouble with my computer either not recognizing Seagate 2 TB external drive, or if recognized, it is listed as Raw. I have:
1. Connected the drive to my laptop - it worked fine;
2. Changed the USB port on my desktop, over and over, same problem;
3. Reformatted the drive, same problem;
4. hooked it up to a different outlet, same problem;
5. Run the delivered HP hardware diagnostic tools, no errors noted, but same drive problem persists;
6. Updated drivers, over and over.
Is there ANYTHING else I can try?

Sqlplus is not recognized

hi,
When I connect to database from client it says sqlplus is not recognized as internal or external command.
The Path is set to correct directory though

oops, I think SQLPLUS is not installed on this server with the client installation. Because I cannot see sqlplus.exe in BIN directory.
This was installed long back.
Can anyone tell me how to install only SQLPLUS into this client?

ITunes is not recognizing blank CDs

iTunes is not recognizing blank discs. The computer shows it with other programs, but it doesn't show on iTunes.

I had (have) same problem. I dinked around for a couple of hours and even though I didn't have a blank CD showing in Itunes I decided to try and burn a CD anyway. Sure enough, it worked! Am I crazy or didn't it used to display blank CD's? Seems like this just happend. So, if it doesn't "see" your CD, trying burning anyway. This happened by the way "out of nowhere", can't explain what caused it.

HT203242 New Apple External Disc Burner not being recognized

Have an old Apple 2006 Intel Imac. Burner no longer works and purchased an Apple External Burner. The system is not recognizing the burner it still wants to recognize the internal burner that doesn't work.

I suspect it is the adapter throwing a wrench in the works. Why not get an IDE drive instead?

WD external drive not recognized with 10.7.5 update

I've got a Western Digital external drive that was working just fine an hour ago, then I installed the 10.7.5 update and now my Mac Pro is saying that it's not recognized by the computer and asking if I want to initialize it. I went to Disk Utility and the drive itself shows up but no disc image. It's connected via a RocketU USB 3.0 dual hub, which has also worked fine and aparently still is (it's recognized in my system report). I updated my drivers for the USB 3.0 hub anyways but still no disc being recognized.
It's not a complete disaster because this is a backup disc, but I'd love to avoid having to back up all that data again (about a terabyte, which happens to be all my work files and iTunes files - it's a LOT of stuff). I also wanted to post in case this is some kind of issue with this current update, but I digress.
This is what my disc utility currently looks like:
The destination and source can't be the same (as is pictured) when doing a Restore, right? That accomplishes nothing but a blank drive, I'm guessing.
I also have Drive Genius 3 and tried to "scan" the drive several times, all of them producing failure to scan results. I could try a bench test on the drive, but as I've already stated, it was working fine an hour ago. I'm pretty sure it's the update, not the drive.
So is there any way for me to save the information that's currently on there or do I have to bite the bullet and re-backup all that data?

External hard drive is not recognized after attempt to format

I just got a new macbook and couldn't use my external hard drive because it was formatted on a PC and only allowed me to read the data. I backed up the data on the 250gb hd and then used Disk Utility to erase the hd and format it as "Mac OS extended (journaled)." After beginning, Disk Utility stopped working and showed up as "not responding" in the Activity Monitor.
Now the hd does not show up on the desktop and can only be seen in Disk Utility. If I try to erase again or partition the hd the utility stops responding. If I try to zero out the drive it continues to say "preparing to zero" indefinately. Now the hd is also not recognized by windows except in the windows disk utility, but it does not even give the option of formatting/initializing it, so that is not an option.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before, or have any idea of something that I haven't tried yet. I really want to get the drive working and have exhausted all the ideas I can come up with. The internet has not provided too many ideas either.

I have crazy solution to format it to FAT 32, it work a couple times on my several MAxtor, and Western Digital HD. But this is the last resort and if you are not handy and familiar, don't do it.
It happen on my external HD, so I crack the enclosure open, pulled the HD out and attached it as internal HD on a PC after adjusting the jumper to master and make sure no other HD attached to the motherboard. Make sure the motherboard detected (you can see it from bios menu).
Insert a bootable installer disk before XP ('98, ME, or 2000), and start from there until a promt comes, and type fdisk and you delete the old partition and create a new partition and restart once using the disk still and format it using FAT 32.
After that you put it back to the enclosure, and mount it to MacBook as a new HD with default factory format.
If you don't have the installer disk, this might help :

External Hard Drive suddenly not recognized

I have a WD 500GB external hard drive that I use to back up my data. I only have one hard drive as I'm currently living abroad and couldn't bring a 2nd with me.
I plugged in my external last night to back up my MacBook Pro and it backed everything up. I even went into Time Machine to go back and restore a file or two and that worked without problem. I have been using this drive for about a year to back up everything on my Mac and, although sensitive, it seems to work okay.
I plugged it in this morning and nothing. My Mac will not recognize that the drive is not plugged in in Time Machine or in Finder. If I go to Apple Logo > About This Mac > More Info... > Storage tab, it just shows my internal hard drive and my CD/DVD drive. If I click on Disk Utility with the drive plugged in, it shows my Hard Drive (Macintosh HD) with two icons, one inset below the other and both in black font, and then my external hard drive has two underneath, but only the top one is black font - the one underneath is greyed out.
It goes like this:
250.06 GB Hitachi...

     Time Machine Backups (greyed out)
Superdrive (greyed out)
When I clicked on the 500GB one and told it to repair/verify it said the disk was working fine. I tried unplugging and replugging in the drive (it is not recognized in Finder so I could not properly eject the disk). I restarted my Mac with it unplugged and plugged it in afterward and nothing.
The HD itself is working, the light is blinking (not solid) and I can feel the hard drive spinning, but I'm at a loss as to what to do to get my Mac to recognize it again.

Camera not recognized unless daisy-chained with external HD

I just bought a LaCie 250GB external FW drive to use as a scatch disk for FCE. Now my camera (Sony DCR-HC30) is not recognized unless I plug it into the LaCie. I borrowed a second camera (Panasonic), swapped the FW cable while the camera and HD were plugged into separate FW ports, and the Panasonic was immediately connected in both iMovie (v4) and FCE. I've tried the suggested fixes (unplug, Garageband, swap ports, new cable...) and the problem remains. I upgraded memory, QT and applied several patches prior to attaching the HD. Any suggestions? Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD? (I've not tried to import any video yet). Thanks

To backup my existing environment I bought Seagate Free Agent GoFlex 500GB for PC and Mac. USB 3.0 but backward comaptible to USB 2.0 which is what my laptop is. The system requirements included support for 10.4.11. I attached the drive to my lap top and used disk utility to format to Mac Extended OS (journaled). It recognized the drive immediately.
I used SuperDuper 2.6.4 to copy all files to the external drive. It seemed to copy just fine. It said it made the drive bootable. TO test it, I shutdown the system and started it back up with the option key pressed, but it only gave me my original HD as a choice to boot from. When the system came up, it didn't recognize the external drive. I unplugged the drive and re attached it and it seemed to recognize it, I trued to reboot again and it doesn't recognize the hard drive on reboot. Only when I un attach and reattach it.
Any ideas?

I suspect StartupDisk is seeing a nicely mounted drive connected in a bootable interface (USB) with all the needed files (palced there by SuperDuper). However, what it doesn't know if that drive isn't really accessible until the computer has properly booted because the chipset doesn't work without full system support. This is not at all unusual in external drives. Many years ago you really has to insist upon having an Oxford chipset in an enclosure to guarantee booting, but for general backup use any chipset was fine.

I moved everything from the Lacie to the SEaget - at least is it will be useful for something!
Erased the Lacie, partitioned it to 2 partitions.
Formnatted the partition GUID as suggested. I had named the partition for the backup something cutre like 10.4.11 OS clone.
Used Disk Utility>Restore to backup/clone the environment.
During the backup, it renamed the partition Macintosh HD, which was encouraging. After waiting a very long time for the backup, I was able to try to test booting from it and received many diagnostic errors including permission type errors, some of the files in /etc did not beloing to root. I have a couple of things I am going to try but thought I'd throw it out here since you guys have kept me pointed in the right direction.
Any more ideas as to why the drive won' t boot? Did I not give the partition enough space? Is it the chipset thing?
