LR Print Layout Request -- A New Start

After some discussion on another thread, here is a new start, trying to detail my request to improve the layout functions in the Lightroom Print Module. These requests are for common layout requirements for those of us who do other printing than single page Fine Arts prints. The current layout functions in LR are essentially limited to Fine Arts and Contact Print functions. The requests below are for the rest of us.
Please note that these requests are only about LR Print Module LAYOUT functions. Requests about soft proofing, output sharpening, etc. should be handled in another thread.
Request that print layout functions include the ability to:
1. Precisely place multiple cells of different size and orientation on a page.
2. Automatically place as many images as possible of a given size on a page, making the image orientation as necessary. For example, three 4 x 6 prints on a single 8.5" x 11" page. Wedding shots, for example.
3. Allow creation and saving a job of multiple pages with the ability to have different page layouts on each page. For example, a twelve page monthly calendar where some pages may have a single landscape image with no caption. Some may have a single landscape image with caption. Some pages may have two portrait images with or without captions, and some pages may have all of the above.
Consider that on a landscape page, there could be two portrait prints with a single landscape caption below and spanning both portrait images.
Another example to show the need for this is when making a Photo Book. Most often, each page will have different layout requirements.
It should be possible to save and recall both the entire job with images and just the layout alone. Maybe a Print Job Collection and a "Print Layout Collection."
With the implementation of 1. above, a separate caption option isnt necessary since it can be created as desired as a separate cell with text created in Photoshop or some other application.
4. Be able to create a template for a page(s) and place selected images in selected cells. For example create a template for a greeting or note card that will be folded after printing. The portrait page template could have two cells. The outside page could have an image in the bottom cell only, and the inside page could have images in both cells, or any combination of the above. The point being that an empty cell should be possible.
5. Be able to replace or remove any image from any cell on any page when desired. That is, be able to add, remove, or replace an image in a particular cell without changing the remaining layout.
6. Be able to insert or remove an image from a page and have the entire layout change accordingly. For example, I just found the perfect sunset to insert after the thunder storm. This is the inverse of 5.
7. Provide trim marks for page cuts when a final page is smaller than physical page. This situation has just come up in Christmas cards that will be 7-7/8" x 10-1/2", printed on 8.5" x 11" paper. By the way, I dont know of any other application that can do this.
These are all some detailed request to implement the general request to be able to place any image in any orientation anywhere on a page.
Wil

And I would add that the form of this regquest is just about perfect...about the only thing missing is the "why would you want to do that" part with potential examples of how you would use certain aspects of the request to do certain commonly needed tasks.
For example on #2, are you asking for the ability to maizimize the number of images up on a sheet to make prints more efficiently? Would you also want margins and trim lines? (personally, I would as an option).
#3 has a good example for the suggestion/request. But another example of use would be to be able to print off custom brochures either for the photographer (self promotion) or as a service to the client.
You say you want the ability to swap images in an array (I do too). Would you want to do this by drag & drop (say yes please)?
This is much better...
:~)

  • Query Print Layout-Linking a new header field with ref to repetitive area

    Hi,
In a query print layout, the query result based on pending items from a specific vendor is to be displayed.
On trying to insert a new database field (eg. Vendor Name), in the header area based on the pending item details in the repetitive area, the print output shows up a random vendor name (not related with the query result).
The RELATE TO property-option of the header field does not list the repetitive area fields, and the LINK TO option does not help either.
Please advise any other way to link the new db field to display the correct vendor name (contact person, address) as used in the query.
    thanks,

Yes, the fields are part of the query.
Eg. The pending items from a specific vendor(with vendor code, name) is listed in the repetitive area of the layout. But the requirement is to have the Vendor Name and Address details in the Header portion(i.e. Letter to Vendor). Please help me on this.
    thanks,

  • Export Print layout to other SAP server

    Hi,
    I'm facing problem of export print layouts from SAP B1 2007 A to SAP B1 2007 B.
I tried with the copy express but it comes up with an error telling that the export is fail because 2 databases are in different version.
It is unpractical and time wasting to redesign the same print layout to the new SAP server.
Is there any way to solve this?
    Thanks.

It may be worth trying using copy & paste? I'm not sure how different the structures are between the two localisations, and there will need to be a lot of remapping done.
If the layout is not too complex it is probably quicker to modify the system layout & recreate from scratch

  • New customized report using PLD or QUERY PRINT LAYOUT to show customers onl

I am working with a Software Developing firm as an SAP Consultant.
Please tell me how to create a new     customized     report displaying various details as required by the client in the report using PLD or Query Print Layout.
    Please help me asap.

    Hi,
You can create queries using the Query Generator or the Query Wizard tools.
After you have created your own queries, you can link them to a required print layout.
    for user reports.Look at:
Tools --> Queries --> Query Print Layout
    Set there your query reports.
    Printing User-Defined Queries
After you had linked a user-defined query to a user report template, you can now print it
according to its linked print layout.
There are two ways for printing your user-defined queries.
    1. Using the Query Print Layout window:
    • Select from the upper menu Tools 􀃆 Queries 􀃆 Query Print Layout.
    • Click the Reports tab page.
    • Click to highlight the required query you would like to print.
    • Click on the printer icon or select from the upper menu File 􀃆 Print.
    • The user-defined query is printed according to its linked print layout.
    2. Using the Queries Manager window:
    • Click the Queries Manager icon on the upper tool bar.
    • Click to highlight the required query you would like to print.
    • Click on the printer icon or select from the upper menu File 􀃆 Print.
    • The user-defined query is printed according to its linked print layout.
Note! You can also print preview user-defined queries. Do so by selecting the Print
Preview option as described in the methods above for printing your query.
Btw, you could search the manual training files relate to query PLD in http://www.service.sap.com/smb

  • Add a new table to an existing Print Layout Designer report

Is it possible to add a new table to an existing Print Layout Designer report? For example, in the Production Order there is a Sales Order field (which is displayed on the report), I would like to display some information from UDFs found on the Sales Order, but when I add a Database Field to the report the Sales Order tables does not appear in the list (OWOR).

    Hi
It is possible provided there is a relationship which exists between two tables.
You can add a Database field. Goto the Properties and selct Content Tab.
Now in the Table dropdown, hold the Alt Key and click. This displays all the tables in B1. After selecting the Table, you can select the related Column.
Remember there should be a relationship which exists between this column and existing columns.
Because PLD works completely on Joins to my understanding

  • Tutorial request: moving print layout to tablet

Hello, I see a lot of courses and training about DPS, but one seems to be missing, a tutorial to adapt efficiently an existing indd layout to the tablet world. Especially a picture book layout with 200 pages, which can be a very time-consuming task, or maybe not, when properly explained.
    Is this happening anytime soon?
    Thank you

    Hello Thomas,
you can find the mentioned Tutorial under
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sapportals.km.docs/documents/a1-8-4/user reports - print layout designer.abst
or via SDN -> Developer Areas -> Business One -> Tutorials.
This document describes, who to use the well known document editor to create individual layouts for your own queries in order to print them.
As it's just an explanation on how to use the document editor for this purpose, you'll have to stick to the same limitations as for all other documents.
And: No - it won't show you, how to create a new layout. The best docu for that issue is imho the documentation, which was shipped with SBO 6.01, the Course material for TB1200 or the Online-Help.

  • Print Layout Designer or Crystal.....! What to do?

    Dear All,
We need to link our User forms to Print layouts in order to make our reports work exactly the way SAP reports work. Is there a way to enable the print and print preview toolbar buttons and make them show our Report Layout? So far the response from SDK Forum is not encouraging and many questions regarding the same issue remain unanswered there.
After looking for the solution in the SDK Forums we came across these two replies from Mr. Nick He and Mr.Frank Moebius. Both are of the opinion that currently SAP does not offer a support for this feature and better use a third party tool. We are not in a position right now to opt for any third party tool but if we get a clear response from your side regarding this matter, we can go for it. Kindly have a look at the following links:
Re: Print Layout  Design for user form in SapBusinessOne2005A(6.80.317) sp:01.?
Re: Add PLD Layouts in 2005 through sdk
The recommended solution within SAP B1 to develop Add-on reports is through User Queries and creating a Print Layout and run them via Query Manager Window. This approach in our view has the following drawbacks that make it less friendly with the end user:
    1. Add-on forms appear in the left pane/menu, whereas reports would have to run through Query Manager only, which is in fact a small toolbar button on the top right side. We can add the Query Manager link to user menu but it doesn’t solve the problem.
    2. A user with full authorization over the Print Layout can accidentally overwrite it by clicking the Create Report Button, whereas in case of SAP Reports the Layouts remain unchanged and only saved as a new Layout and set as Default Layout for a report. Add-on Reports cannot do this.
    3. Different behavior of Layouts in Query Manager on Single Click and Double Click. In the Query Manager, if a user just selects a query by a Single Click and views a Print Preview (Layout) then the custom user Layout appears. But if a user Double clicks a query then the Query Window appears, exposing the query and making it editable. Also the Preview(Layout) is different in this case. The user can either view the Window or Table Layout in this case. Hence this exercise would make the user confused and prone to errors.
    4. The Parameter/Criteria window that is SAP generated is not enough to fulfill user friendly interface requirements. Is there a way to add List boxes or Combos to that form. The parameter selection Checkboxes also behave in a strange way that even the experts find difficult to manipulate. If they are of no use, what’s the point in having them on the form in the first place.
All these points are leading us to confusion over the decision as to whether go for Query Based Reports or use Third Party tools. Kindly help us out in this regard. Your response would help us save some valuable time for our Add-on Development.

<<< If there is a solution then it has to be from SDK. We can only opt for third party components and frameworks only if any of the SAP representatives ensure us that the current version of SDK does not offer such support.>>>
The answer to that is to lodge your query as an Issue to SAP directly as a support question or go through your local SAP representative. If the functionality is not offered by SAP you can do a Development Request ( DRQ) and SAP will develop it if they think it will become userful.
<<<If this Forum is not meant to be answered by SAP representatives then kindly tell me any other Technical Support Portal from where i can get the answer directly. >>>
This forum is accessed mostly by SAP Business One Developers on SDK. However we are fortunate that some SAP employees who are very knowledgeble take some time off to answer queries.
Since it is a Forum, no one is obliged to answer. As indicated above , Try SAP directly if you need a definite answer.
    <<<>>>
Since you mentioned Crystal: We as SAP Business One SDK developers, have come across similar issues and opted for a Inhouse developed Crystal Solution. It has been so popular we are selling it as a Generic add-on to B1.

  • Limited Logistic cannot change open Print Layout Designer?

    Dear Experts,
My customer has multiple Purchase Order layouts, they are using Limited Logistic user license and have full authorization to Change Default Report.
However, when they click on the Print Layout Designer, the pencil icon from toolbar, an error message prompt, You cannot open Window [60213] Type List Form with your current license.
Online License Authorization document that i have read does not provide details information about Limited Logistic vs Print Layout Designer.
Can someone please advice me is it SAP limited logistic license design or is it a bug or is it some setting has been done wrongly?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Lay Chin

    Hi Gordon,
The SAP Note No: 1223477 is indicating what happend last time. But for the new customers who start using SAP B1 8.8, when they purchases limited logistic, they get limited logistic license with the correct access right defined in https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000953982007E, no more professional license is given.
Below statement is quoted from SAP Support Portal:-
New user types are now enforced
The new user types that have been introduced in the SAP Business One pricing and licensing model are now enforced in the SAP Business One 8.8 application: The limited users and indirect users are implemented; the use of the add-on access user is re-defined (this user will now be a normal user).
Please correct me if I understand the statement wrongly.
    Thanks.

  • How too set query print layout parameters?

    Hello,
    simple task:
    1. Open "Query Print Layout...": SBO_Application.ActivateMenuItem("4868")
    2. Handle new reports form: SBO_Application.Forms.ActiveForm (I know, the better solution should be get form with proper TypeEx and highest TypeCount, but now it doesn't matter)
    3. Select row with required report: m.Columns.Item(0).Cells.Item(row).Click(BoCellClickType.ct_Regular, 0)
    4. Run printing: SBO_Application.ActivateMenuItem("519")
    5. Handle new parameters form: ???
How can I get newly created form containing report parameters (TypeEx "4000")? I wanna set proper parameters and click "OK" to show printed report. Doesn't work handling:
    - FORM_LOAD in ItemEvent
    - MenuEvent for "519" (is only BeforeAction
    - PrintEvent (executed after accepting parameters)
    - ReportDataEvent (passed FormUID belongs to reports list, not parameters)
In each event I've listed all forms and there is no form titled "Query - Selection Criteria" with expected TypeEx.
Is there any way to achive this?

when you activate print preview of printing on selected User Query Layout, you can cacth the ET_FORM_LOAD event of formTypeEx =4000
It is working. Please note if you do not have this event, you may check your filters (?)
Then you can populate your values. Based on my experience the click ok button is not working.
Tip: Search the forum in year 2009 i have posted there sample codes

  • Problem with Query Print Layout

Hi, i have this type of problem.
I have create a query with 5 fields,i have saved it, and ,after, i have created a report on this query (Query Print Layout).
So, i have manipulated the report based on the preferences of the customer.
After this operation, customer tell me that he want to see one more field in the report, so i must add, in the original query, this field. But i note that i can't add a field. I can do it, but i must remake all the report.
There is a way to do this type of operation, without remake the report from the start?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Marco

    Hi Marco:
I asked our Print Layout Expert, and she tolds me that you have to create the report again.
Some time ago, in the report designer was a  way to change the link to the query, but that option is disable now.
So, be patient and ask for this functionality to be implemented.

  • Query Print Layout / Query Manager

Hopefully some one here can help me out ...
I have created a handful of Query Print Layouts.  How or is there a way when I make a change to the underlying query, to reassociate it with the report?  Now when I change the query,  I have to create a new report.  I am currently on SAP B1 2007 PL11.  When I upgraded from PL06 to PL11,  the queries handle prompted dates differently, causing me to have to make a simple syntax change to my query which does not change the data being passed to the report.
    Thanks in advance
    Dana

    Dana,
This is the short-coming of the Query PLD.  Once you change the Query, you will need to redo the template all over again.
Therefore, it is a good practise to always finalize the query and then design the layout.
Re-assigning the revised query to QPLD is not possible

  • Query Print Layout - Generated PDF Document Name?

    Hi All,
Query Print Layouts associated to my user queries work great for printing...but does anyone know if there is a way to set a more appropriate document file name when attaching an edited PDF report to an email? It seems to always automatically create a document name starting with 'Query Manager_-1_12' or something similar when attaching the report document directly to email.
I do realize that I can save the file locally, choose any name I like, then attach to email... but this defeats the purpose of being able to send the query report directly to the email icon.
If anyone knows how I can do this it would be much appreciated. There seems no option in the QPLD document properties.
    Best regards,
    John

    Hello,
Yes, I have the same question. It could be great being able to choose the name of the document when creating a pdf. Even better if you could chose fields of the document for the name of the pdf, such as, name of customer, number of document, date, etc.
Is there any way for doing this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Javier.

  • Print Layout Designer / Open Items List Report

When I open the Reports>Sales and Purchasing>Open Items List report - How can I associate a different Print Layout depending on which Document Type is then selected from the drop down list..
Eg. When I print a list of Open Purchase Orders I want to us a different print template than when I print a list of Open Sales Orders ?
    Thanks for any pointers..
    Karen

    Hello ...
You must enter the LDP clicking the pencil icon that appears in the toolbar when the window is open open items list.
Once there, create 2 new text fields, one with the text "Orders" and another that says "Customer Orders". Both fields were identified as Field_XXX and Field_YYY (where XXX and YYY are numbers that appear in their fields)
There is a field of variable rate system, which is what lets you see the description of the type of document. (Orders, Customer Orders, etc.).. This field corresponds to variable 100 (check it that way), we assume that this field is the field F_ZZZ within the layout.
Create 2 fields of type formula, the formula to edit it (Field_XXX == Field_ZZZ) and (Field_YYY == Field_ZZZ) respectively.
Create 2 text fields (these are only to test the application, then to understand the functionality can not delete them or leave them visible). Set in one of these areas, the letter "A" in the second field and set the letter "B". both camps can put one over the other in the layout.
Now comes the application of the field ... "A" condicionelo one of the formula fields and country "B" condicionelo another formula field. The conditional mode is to set the formula field in the general tab LINK A. ..
Try then see a preview of both reports and can see that depending on the type of document you will see "A" or "B" as appropriate.
Apply the same logic as those fields that you will create and generate the difference between formats.
I hope this will be helpful

  • Print Layout Designer \Custom Reports

    Hello All,
Is there a way to set a custom report as default in the Print Layout Designer for A/R Invoice in SAP B1 ?
Thank you and Best wishes and Happiness in the New Year 2009.
    Ben

    Hello All,
Thank you for your answer but I would like to be more exact in my question  because I already know how to set a  Print Layout as default in a screen of SAP B1 like A/R Invoice by the way that Parlati has mentioned :
    1. Open a blank AR Invoice (e.g. service or item type)
    2. Click on Menu >> Tools >> Print Layout Designer... or pen icon on toolbar
    3. With The Document Type selected - choose template and click on Set as Default
But I usually use the Query Manager Tool of SAP B1 to create new queries and reports and I use the Print Layout Designer to setup the layout of these reports. These reports are printed normally via the print preview Icon of the toolbar. But now I would like to know how can I set one of these Reports as default in A/R Invoice screen of SAP. Because it's a one of my customized Invoices.
Is there a way to do this?
    Thank you.
    Ben.
