LR Publish Services & Facebook

Can LR publish to a Business 'Page' rather than a personal profile?

The FB REST methods do (or did) not allow this, except for specific apps. Check Friedl's FB publish service page for an update:

Not sure if fan/group pages are the same as a biz page.

Does anyone know the workaround to get the Facebook token?  I recall it involves pasting in a web address.

  • Set-Up Publish Services Help - Facebook, Smugmug, Shutterfly

Hi.  I'm relatively new to Lightroom 5 and am trying to set-up/configure publish services to be able to share photos on Facebook, Shutterfly, and Smugmug.  In all instances I am getting stuck when trying to authenticate my account on each of these social sites.  Basically I enter my log-in information and hit authenticate and then nothing happens.  Please advise what I am doing incorrectly.  Thank you!

That's what happened to me. Did you get any answer from the Adobe "support"?

  • My LR 5.2 Publish service for Facebook indicates "missing plug-in."

The Publish Service function on my LR 5.2 indicates that Facebook is "missing plug in." Downloading LR 5.3RC did not fix the issue. How and where can I find and install the missing plug-in?

My apologies if you have already found this answer, but I didn't see it in the replies for this thread.
Here is an answer to your "pages" issues with the default Facebook plugin.  Check out Jeff Friedl's plugin...

Here is his personal blog, from which he supplies a wealth of information and a variety of plugins for Lightroom (see "Lightroom Goodies")...

I''m setting up my plugins from Jeff as "I speak."

  • LR 5.5 is missing the Facebook Publish Service

My Publish Service list includes SmugMug, Flickr etc. But doesn't show Facebook.
When I click the "Find more services online…", select Free, enter Facebook as search term - there are no Publish Services offered, just Photo Upload $7.50

    Hi,
This is what your Default Publish Services panel should look like: Lightroom Help | Post photos online using publish services

  • Problems authorizing the Facebook Publish Service

I'm using Windows 7/32 + LR 3.2 + FF as my default browser
For the last several days I've been trying to get the Facebook Publish Service authorized against my facebook account without sucess.  Facebook would add the lightroom application to my list of approved applications, but LR would not recognize that the auhorization was sucessfull after I clicked the "Allow" button in Facebook.  I tried this with Firefox, Chrome, and IE and all three browsers failed.  Firefox threw an error about the (lightroom) protocol being unknown and then redirected to my Facebook Wall.  IE would simply say that it could not open the web page.  And Chrome did something similar but I cannot remember the details (I think it redirected too). In all cases LR would report that the Facebook Publish Service was not authorized.  I tried reinstalling LR several times and I tried adding the lightroom protocol to FF and associating it with LR but to no avail.  Finally I stumbled upon a process that worked for me.
If this is the error you are seeing, then the procedure below should allow you to get properly authorized in LR:
If you already tried and failed to authorize then go into you Facebook Application Settings (Account --> Application Settings) and remove/deauthorize the LR application (using whatever browser you like to do this).
Make IE your default browser.  This is just temporary, unless you like it like that.  You have to use IE, FF won't work and since IE worked here I didn't try Chrome.  When LR opens the browser to authenticate you it needs to open IE, not FF
Open LR and click the "Set Up..." link for Facebook Publish Service.  Then click the "Authorize on Facebook" button.  When IE opens log into FB if your not already, then click the Allow button to authorize LR.
If your having the same problem I did then IE will immediately throw up an error saying that it couldn't open the requested page.  Look at the URL in the address bar.  It should begin with "lightroom://...".  Select and copy the entire URL to you clipboard.
Go back to LR and click the "Done" button. This will return you to the Facebook Publish Service Setup Dialog and you should see that you are still not authorized. Dang!
But you'll notice that the "not authorized" label is not a hyperlink.  Click it.  This will open a dialog prompting you for the authorization URL.  Paste the URL you copied from IE into this box and click OK.
    You should now be authorized.
You can now restore you prefferred default browser.
Hope this helps anyone else having the same problems I did getting Facebook authorized within Lightroom.

On Windows, the process for authenticating with Facebook depends on some registry keys. If these keys failed to be written during installation, for whatever reason, authentication is not going to work as intended. (There is a fallback solution, which is referred to in the initial post in this thread.)
To check if the required registry keys are present on your machine, you can open up a command prompt and execute the command:
    regedit /E lightroom.reg "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lightroom"
If the keys are indeed present, this should result in a file named lightroom.reg with contents that look something like this:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lightroom]
    "URL Protocol"="\"\""
    @="\"URL:Lightroom Protocol\""
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lightroom\DefaultIcon]
    @="\"lightroom.exe,1\""
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lightroom\shell]
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lightroom\shell\open]
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lightroom\shell\open\command]
    @="\"C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.2\\Lightroom.exe\" \"%1\""
These registry keys are supposed to be written at install time when lightroom.exe is invoked with a '-register' option. (The user is comletely unaware of this, of course.) This is something that can be attempted after installation as well, and to increase the chances of success, 'lightroom.exe -register' should be invoked after making sure that lightroom will be run with administrator privileges. (On Windows Vista, this can be done by right-clicking the shortcut to lightroom.exe and checking the 'Run this program as an administrator' option in the 'Compatibility' tab.)
If running 'lightroom.exe -register' fails to inject the expected keys into the registry, regedit can be used to insert the keys manually. However, I would not recommend modifying your registry manually unless you have experience with that kind of thing already. A lot of damage can be done to your system if you do something wrong.

  • Facebook disapears from Publishing Services?

I had to reinstall LR3.2 on my Dell PC and after install was complete i noticed that all of my publisher services except
    Facebook was still intact.
Has anybody ever heard of this happening and if so what could have caused this to happen?
Any suggestions of help would be greatly appreciated.

Few more tests and it seems that Facebook is syncing the titles from the facebook site and overwriting my titles that I have changed since first uploading to Facebook. The same files that are on Mobile Me gallery of course are being affected in iPhoto - but the changed titles (by Facebook) are not being changed on the Mobile Me whenever I do a sync there.
    mmmmmm
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • Publish Services to Facebook

I have to re- authorize to facebook everytime I want to send something to Facebook. When I push authorize it directs me to a page to allow lightroom to send to facebook however this page never shows up. So I go on back to first page and save the facebook parameters, then I can publish to Facebook. Then the next time I want to publish to Facebook I have to start the process all over. Any solutions.

Provide the name of the program you are using so a Moderator may move this message to the correct program forum
This Cloud forum is not about help with program problems... a program would be Photoshop or Lighroom or Muse or ???

  • Can someone please help?  Can't publish to Facebook in LR4.1

When I attempt to "authorize" Lightroom to access my Facebook account I get a "webpage cannot be accessed" and the address "lightroom://com.adobe.lightroom.export.facebook/#access_token="  and a ridiculously long string of jibberish afterward.  Same thing happens with the built in publish service for Flickr.   I am about to pull out what hair I have left because I've been unable to locate an answer to this issue.
Any insight or help from the professional community on this site would be greatly appreciated.

    Victoria,
For Facebook:  I used the following procedure found on another thread on this site dated 15 Mar 2012, The  "Failed to receive the authentication token." will show up as a blue hyperlink right above the "Change Account" button.
I found I was able to complete it only using Microsoft IE on windows using the following method:
    1. Delete Lightroom from the Apps on your account
    2. Re-authorize from Lightroom (make sure Microsoft IE is the default internet browser)
    3. When authorizing IE will go to an invalid URL - just copy all of the URL
    4. When Lightroom notifies "Failed to receive the authentication token." Click on it to bring up "lightroom://..." under the Facebook Authorization URL
5 Replace "lightroom://..." with the URL you copied and it will be authorized
Note it doesn't seem to work with either Firefox or Google Chrome
As for Flickr...Under the "Sharing and Extending" tab in Flickr, Lightroom is not showing up.  Under the LR Publish Services, Plug in Manager, Lightroom indicates I can't save my changes to the Flickr set up because I am not logged in to Flickr, when in fact I am.  Logging out of Flickr and logging back in has no effect on the process as LR still returns the same thing.
I'm baffled, to say the least.

  • Can't set up Lightroom Publish Services, internal error occurs

I'm trying to use LR 3's publish service for SmugMug.  I'm a little scared since
I have a large number of photos to sync up.
When I click on "setup" on the SmugMug export services, I get a popup
    error with this message:
"An internal error has occurred: ?:0: attempt to index field 'exportSettings' (a
    nil value)"
Any idea how to fix this?
The same message appears for any of the publish services (Flickr, Facebook).
If I go the Publish manager, I can authorize the SmugMug account.  It then says it syncs the hierarchy, but afterwards nothing seems to have happened and the account is not longer authorized.
    Thanks.

Thanks Mark, but that's not it.
I'm not using Jeff's plugin, but the new built-in one for LR 3.2 and LR3.3.  I did try to install Jeff's plugin just before LR3.2 came out.  I uninstalled Jeff's version (or at least tried to - it doesn't appear anymore) before I ever used it.
I'm not even to the point of exporting to SmugMug, I just click 'setup' and get the error.

  • Lightroom 4 Publish Services will not connect to Flickr.

I have been trying to set up Flickr in Lightroom 4 Publish Services but get an error message when I press "OK, I'll Authorise it" on the Flickr authorisation page.  The message is "The address wasn't understood.   Firefox dosen't know how to open this address".   Can anyone help?

Unfortunately, there isn't anything we can really do on our side, as the problem here is that the expected behavior is not occuring and the failure is outside of Lightroom itelf.
Here is what is supposed to happen:
    1. Lightroom sends a request to your web browser to open an authentication page that is already built in to the host web site.
    2. You authenticate, which gives permission for your account information to be sent back to Lightroom. This substitutes the need to enter a user name and password. It's a hall pass for Lightroom to send your files to your online account.
    3. With authentication complete, the web page sends a token (similar to a cookie) back to Lightroom, which is then used whenever Lightroom needs to access the web servers to upload a file.
The problem occurs in step three. The token is not being sent to Lightroom. Instead, the web browser is keeping it for some reason and attempting to open it. This shouldn't happen, but Lightroom doesn't have any control over your browser. Some suggestions are to clear your temporary internet files and cookies to see if corruption there is changing the behavior. Also, the Facebook app for Lightroom may have some issues, try deleting this from your Facebook account (within your account settings on the website).

  • Lightroom: Publish Services have gone corrupt

When I was trying to sync 500px with Lightroom 5, all the Publish Services have initialised.
SmugMug, Facebook, 500px, Revel, all have reset, and ask to be set up.
When I try to set up any of them, I get an error promptly, as below:
?:0: attempt to index field 'exportSettings' (a nil value)
How can I straighten out the app? Thanks!

I am having a similar problem. Were you able to find a fix. Thank You.

  • Best way to publish a collection to multiple publish services

    Hi
I post a collection of images to Facebook, SmugMug and to a Hard Drive folder for syncing with my iPhone.
Currently I add all the photos I want to a regular collection.  Once complete I select all and drag to each of the three Publish Services Collections and hit publish on all three.  I've considered making the three Publish Services Collections Smart and telling them to include from the Collection that includes the name of my collection (really it would be helpful if there was a drop down list, but I digress).
Is there a better way of doing this?  What is everybody else doing?
    cheers, Lewis

I use export instead of publish.
Granted, I'm not using the web photo services that don't support change detection without the publishing (or are there export plugins that do support change detection and removal of obsolete photos - true sync stuff like publishing except via export?).
TreeSync - for hard drive export-based "publishing".
WebPhotos - for exporting photos for web consumption.
ExportManager - for one-click exporting of all changed photos to all endpoint destinations.
I have requested a feature, as have other publish plugin developers, for a hook so that publishing can be started programmatically (via plugins). If this feature is added to the Plugin SDK, then export-manager will be upgraded and renamed export+publish-manager...

  • Publish Services Problem

I tried to install the new 500px plugin and now none of my Publish Services will work. I get an error message "An internal error has occurred: ?:0 attempt to index field 'exportSettings' (a nil value)" when I try to access the publish services. In Library Module, Publish Services asks to set up each services that used to work but the Plug In Manager says it is enabled and running. I have tried to disable all publish services and bring them back one by one but that did not work. Same error message and I have lost the Facebook Publish Service altogether. What can I do further? Lightroom 5.7, Windows 7

That's what happened to me. Did you get any answer from the Adobe "support"?

  • Publishing to facebook

I am trying to get the connection set up with facebook and have allowed lightroom to publish there.
Back in lightroom the publishing manager is then telling me it is authorizing and that is were it stays and hangs fore ever.
In my face book app account it tells me that lightroom still requires access to my basic info and still requires access to my photos, but since in lightroom the publishing manager is still trying to authorize my facebook nothing happens. I can't even cancel out of it as lightroom is frozen and that happens every time and I need to forcequit out of lightroom.
    Anybody with any solution please.
    Many thanks

    Try:
    - Logging out of FB in the browser first, so that the OAUTH or whatever it uses forces you to login again. It might automatically log you in anyway, but it is worth a try.
    - Changing your default web browser to some other browser, ideally one you have never used on FB before (so credentials are not cached.) How you do this is platform specific, but is documented everywhere.
    - Install Friedl's FB publish service (http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/facebook), which is minimal donation-ware. It has a little more capability and may be smarter about authentication tokens. You can try it for free, so that costs you nothing.
