LR2.2 December 16 Release

Lightroom 2.2 update
December 16, 2008
The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom® 2.2 update includes these enhancements:
* Additional camera support for the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon PowerShot G10, Panasonic DMC-LX3 and more
* Includes several corrections for issues introduced by the Lightroom 2.0 release

Thanks for the tips, John. I've been through probably every message relating to that issue here, as well as some on other websites. I've spent probably a good solid 5 days (obviously not every second of the day) on this issue, and blown a ton of paper and ink, and I'm done with it. I've changed probably every print setting in LR 2 and my printer trying to solve this issue. It worked fine in LR 1, and works fine from PSE, so I've given up for now. I've got my old, slower laptop set up with LR 1 as a print station so I can print from LR if I want, but I, like others, am super-frustrated with this issue. I haven't looked into how to downgrade back to LR 1, but trust me, I'm very very tempted.

• Pre 2 Release Date?

Please - does the Pre2 come out on Verizon this year or in 2011?

I wish I knew too. I got the Pixi Plus a week ago hoping the pre 2 will be out within the 30 days I have to exchange my phone.
here's what I've gathered: a Verizon Q4 (10/10 - 12/10) Roadmap document was released late October that shows the Pre 2 set to launch alongside the KINs, and others that have been released (and others that have yet to be released). Within a week of this document leak, there was a Verizon Pre 2 training document leaked.
On top of this, we also know that CES is in early January, and HP/Palm is expected to make some big announcements. My reasoning is that why would they wait to early January --around CES-- which is a time they want to put a new, competitive face on WebOS/Palm, and release a device that A) has already been released in the US, and B) isn't that different from previous Palm devices. This, to me, indicates a December release. (or that Verizon/Palm are incredibly stupid)
Additionally, we know Rogers is very close to Pre 2 launch, with floor models getting leaked in photos. This may not have anything to do with Verizon, but I'd like to think there'd be a simultaneous N. America launch, or that Verizon wouldn't be too far behind a Rogers release.
The things that confuse this hypothesis are: A) why would Palm/Verizon miss black friday & cyber monday, B) we're only a week and a half from Christmas and still no launch, and C) there has been NO rumors, chatter, etc for weeks now. These all make me nervous.
But in the end, I tend to think a December release is more reasonable for Verizon/Palm. The Pre 2 is nice and all (I certainly want it), but it's not THAT nice to act like it's an iPhone/Droid contender & draw out its launch. In a lot of ways, it's just another mediocre showing from Palm, and doesn't have the potential to be a huge consumer success yet. That NEW direction for HP/Palm should be what CES is all about for the company, and they SHOULD get the old persona, the old perception exorcised before 2011, and allow it to be a fresh start. And hopefully that would mean a Verizon release of the phone that's already been released here, the Pre 2.
But then again, who knows how reasonable Verizon & Palm are.

• Dynadock 3.0 Ethernet not working regardless of OS used

To integrate a new Laptop into my Environment, I bought a Dynadock 3.0 yesterday - ideal designed with Gigabit-Ethernet and 5.1 Audio.
To support Windows 8.1 in perfect manner, I updated the Firmware at first to the December-Release, which may was a big mistake!
I didn't checked with the old one, but the new firmware looks faulty!
Every device is installed without an issue on 3 Notebooks (Win 7 x86, Win 7 x64 and Win 8.1 x64), but on none of this notebooks, the ethernet-device of the dynadock is working.
It is shown as correctly installed and working, but it is not receiving any package from Ethernet - just sending, if I believe the Network statistics of the OS. Nowhere I was able to find any hint to identify a driver-problem. As the ethernet-port is not receiving any answer from the dhcp-server, the OS shows a yellow "!" in the tray-symbol.
That is all.
I checked the same connection with an old USB-to-ethernet-adapter, which was successful.
So far, I guess, the FW is broken, because, if drivers are o.k. and connection is o.k. as well, the only other explaination would be, that the HW is broken, which seems to me less propable for a new device.
Any other Idea?
Similar experience? Advice?
Shall I send the device back, to get a new? Will there be a fix for FW available soon?
Can I reinstall the old FW (how)?
BR
Guido

> but on none of this notebooks, the ethernet-device of the dynadock is working.
First of all you have to download the latest software (compatible with Win 8.1) from displaylink page:
http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php
You should read also the article about the upgrade to Win 8.1
http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=346
If LAN will not be recognized you should manually update the LAN driver of the Dynadock U3. For drivers search in folder: C:\Program Files\DisplayLink Core Software\
Also try to transfer the authentication settings from the internal to the external LAN card.
Just open the properties of the internal LAN card and choose the "Authentication" tab settings.
Now check the option called Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network
For EAP type choose: EAP (PEAP)
Check also the option called Authenticate as computer when computer information is available
After applying the settings of this tab to the Dynadock LAN card, it should work without any problems.

• Caching@URLservices How to clear resp. exception after the provider-refresh?

Hello,
we have created a servlet-application "CondorSTAR", running in OC4J via mod_proxy.
Using URLservices at the portal, we get an 405 "Method not allowd". Oops, there was a misconfiguration in the servlet-application, so that was correct.
After repairing the application, we can now connect "native", i.e. via the URL for the OC4J! But that works not in Portal, the "error-page seems to be cached". We get the same error-message 405 Method not allowed...
Then we have restarted httpd (graceful, later restart), we have given a provider refresh, but still the error is there. Oops, there was also an exception...
Has anybody an idea, to clear the cache resp. what about the exception after the provider-refresh?
Thanks
Michael

• Running a custom process chain from BPC

Hi,
I have created a process chain in BW to load masterdata from a BW infoobject to a BPC infoobject. Is it possible to run this process chain using the data manager in BPC ? Do I have to add any BPC process types to the chain in order to make it work ?
Thanks in advance ...

There is no 'official' documentaton available. What I stated before is just the results of communcation with our SAP Executives ... ramp-up will start on begin december, release expected around end Q2 2010 (depending on ramp-up projects). About content of new functionality: to be expected:
- better integration BW: DM package for loading of master data from BW, multiple selection options in transformationfile, business process flows and drill though.
as I said, to be expected, since not official yet ...
hope this answers your question

• Code completion deletes text

I'm wondering if there is any way I can prevent JDeveloper from deleting text already in my document when it does code completion. In particular I'm dealing with XML files...
Consider this text-editing task:
I have this test:
Today is a wonderful day.
I want to mark this text up to look like:
Today is a wonderful day.
If I locate my cursor (marked by ^) next to wonderful:
Today is a ^wonderful day.
And then enter the < character followed by the b character Jdeveloper pops up a menu of the possible choices ( bold )...
If I then select that choice ( press 'enter' ) it assumes that I'm replacing the tag <bwonderful with the tag and deletes the text wonderful. The end text and cursor position I get is:
Today is a <bold^ day
Is there any way to configure JDeveloper to have the behavior I desire:
Today is a <bold^wonderful day
I find that because of JDeveloper's deletion of text, I end up having to think about whether I would rather type the tag name manually ( not use completion) or retype the following text ( use completion ) every time I insert a tag into my xml documents.

I'm using the December release of JDeveloper:
Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.0.1
Build JDEVADF_MAIN.BOXER_GENERIC_081203.1854.5188
If there is a space, then it doesn't replace the text, as in the example you show:
Today is a ^ wonderful day
works correctly giving:
Today is a <bold^ wonderful day
It also works well if you're inserting in front of a tag:
Today is ^wonderful day
can easily be changed to
Today is <blink^wonderful day
where code completion lists the tag <blink>

• LR-2.1-RC1 - Photoshop Interop - Fixed.....errrr Not Fixed

Just downloaded the LR2.1 release candidate 1.
Because I am constantly having problems opening pictures in Photoshop CS3.
An according to the release notes
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Lightroom_2.1#Photoshop_Interop_-_Fixed
it should have been fixed.
Anyways I sat down now and analyzed the problem a little and found out that I could open all of my "old" pictures with Photoshop CS3 while my "new" pictures had problem.
The problem being photoshop CS3 is started up but no image appears in it to edit.
The diffrence between my "old" and "new" pictures is the keywording, i.e. I only used english letters when keywording my "old" pictures while for the "new" pictures I use all kinds of letters and especially icelandic letters.
I tested this by removing all keywords with Icelandic letters on an image that I had problems with opening in PSCS3 from LR. After removing the keywords with Icelandic letters in them I could open the pictures normally.
Anyways I hope this finds it's way to the lightroom developers.
rg
kd

Imported files are Nikon NEF.
The icelandic characters are e.g. áéýúíóþæðöÁÉÝÚÍÓÞÆÐÖ
But the keywords I played with contained one or more of þðáó
If I remove keywords with these characters I can open files normally in PS CS3.
When I say "open normally" I mean all the default "Edit In" actions, i.e.
Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS3
Open as Smart Object in Photoshop
Merge to Panorama in Photoshop
Merge to HDR in Photoshop
Open as layers in Photoshop.
I have mostly tested the first and last option.
I can always use my own preset (Lightroom->Preferences->External Editing->Additional External Editor) that I defined pointing to CS3 using psd file format, 16 bits/pixel and 300 DPI. I.e. it seems to be unaffected by this keyword "thingy".

• Has anyone had trouble installing Lightroom 2 on MAC version 10.8.5?

I'm trying to re-install Lightroom 2 on my MAC but it doesn't show up anywhere in the applications. The adobe help desk said that it may or may not work due to the version. Does anyone know anything about it or how to fix it so I can install it?

How far do you get through the installer? If I remember rightly, LR2 was released before application signing was added to the OS.
Try skipping the cd and going straight to 2.7 for a start

• Saving and Filing Preferences

I want to be able to save in exactly the folder I want my document in. With one step, "save as."
Currently my "save as" feature only allows me to save on the desktop or in "most recent" or "most frequent" folders. It's not giving me the option to access subfolders for saving.
This is creating a workflow problem. I don't want to have to save to my desktop and then have to drag and place my doc in the proper folder. My mac used to automatically allow this and then the default was changed to save everything to iCloud - which I do not appreciate - and have managed to cancel and redirect that default.
It's 3 extra steps to my workflow and I want it back to where I'm saving directly to the proper folder with one action.
I can't figure out how to do this in preferences. I'm using both Pages and Word suites.

Ah, that seems to work if I access the portal via a desktop rather than directly
through a workshop portal.
Thanks

I have been having a problem saving portlet preferences in a processActionof the
portlet class.
When I go to call .store(), I end up with an exception
java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: Can not persist preferences.No backing
store configured or deployed, or this portal does not support customization.To be able to store prefs, the portlet must be invoked via a desktop
and
not via a .portal file. Could you check if this is the case?
Customization seems to be enabled in the web.xml, but I can't figureout how to
configure a backing store for a JSR-168 portlet. For JSP/HTML portlet,I see a
backing file entry in the property editor in workshop. However, whenI pull up
a JSR-168 portlet in workshop, no such backing file property exists.I am already
logged into the portal as a valid user.Backing files are not related to backing store.
Does anyone know how to do this?
I am running the December released 8.1 SP2.
Here is a code snippet in the action method that causes the problem.
Enumeration prefs_enum = prefs.getNames();
String key = "";
String val = "";
boolean saveIt = false;
while (prefs_enum.hasMoreElements()) {
key = (String) prefs_enum.nextElement();
val = request.getParameter(key);
String oldval = prefs.getValue(key,"");
log("Parameter : " + key + " = " + oldval);
if (val != null) {
request.setAttribute("_" + key, oldval); // saveoff value
val = val.replaceAll(" ", ""); // Remove allspaces.
prefs.reset(key); // Remove old value.
prefs.setValue(key, val); // Remove old value.
log("Parameter now : " + key + " = " + val);
saveIt = true;
if (saveIt) { prefs.store(); }

• Urlservices - possible to stay within the portlet for links?

I've installed urlservices and managed to get a Perl/CGI-based
application to show up in a portlet. Sofar so good...
But I don't like what happens when a user clicks a link inside
the portlet. The browser is either opening the target url in a
new browser window or going to the specified url in the same
browser window - depending on the
<convertTarget>true/false</convertTarget> in provider.xml.
I ideally want the CGI application to stay within the portlet!
Is there any way to do that??

Hi Mats,
Inline rendering of portlet links has been enabled in December
release of URL Services. For more information see release notes.
Hope it will serve your need.

Amjad.

• [solved] - conflicting dependencies - desktop stage of installation

Goodday,
Installation to hard drive using USB drive with CD 2013.03.01
Installation went well and arch is up and running in text mode.
As is usual for me with Arch distros (or any other for that matter) I choose KDE for the graphical side of things.
Previous installations of arch (December release and February release) have proceeded from this point with no problems.
Today's output from:
pacman -S kde kde-l10n-en_gb
produced - after showing me the packages to be downloaded and allowing me to choose a phonon -
error:unresolvable package conflicts detected
error:failed to prepare transaction (confilcts dependencies)
::kdesk-dev-scripts and kdesdk-scripts are in conflict
Has anyone come across this before? If so how did you get past this sticking point?
Thanks,
Hugh

Awebb wrote:Wait a while. Your mirror is not fully sync with the new packages yet. This happened to me yesterday as well, but with different packages. Pick a more recent mirror and update using Syyu. The problem should solve itself, as all KDE packages move to the new version.
Well I waited while - overnight in fact.
Went back to my full fresh Arch install with no Desktop Environment
ran reflector to make sure I had a properly synced mirror
issued
pacman -Syyu
accepted the two files offered for today's update
then issued the command
pacman -S kde kde-l10n-en_gb
accepted the default which is everything
chose gstreamer-phonon when offered
then still get the conflicting files whic means the installation does not proceed
pacman -Ss kdesdk-scripts
produces
kdesdk-scripts 4.10.0.2
pacman -Ss kdesdk-dev-scripts
produces
kdesdk-dev-scripts 4.10.1-1
That they have different version numbers is fairly obvious.
Maybe another 24 hours will see the older package disappear.
edit: on my regular fully updated Arch install the package kdesdk-dev-scripts does not exist. So it looks like I can do without it!
another edit: emailed the maintainer who has fixed the conflict.
marking post as solved.

• Smart Collections missing

I installed the new version LR2. Previously I uninstall LR2 beta. In the beta version it had five Smart Collections, but there are no Smart Collections in LR2 final release.
How can I restore the Smart Collections to show up?
Thank you.

Did you upgrade an LR2 Beat Catalog with LR2? The smart collections should have come along with the catalog. If you started a new Catalog you will have to create new smart collections, AFAIK.

• Adobe...are you listening?

I purchased LR 2 and I now feel that I wasted my money. After reading all these posts, I will not install the program. I am waiting to hear a response from Adobe, and I am disappointed that they have not yet addressed the problems that this software is causing. If anyone from Adobe reads this forum, can you offer some hope for LR 2 to run as flawlessly as LR 1? Can we expect some updates in the near future? An official response from the company would really help to reassure the current and future users of LR.

With all due respect and IMO, one should NEVER simply "install software and see how it works", unless they have experience testing software and a test machine to install it on. If I had a test machine that had the hardware requirements, I'd install LR2 and give it a go... but I don't, and I won't risk my images or hours of editing work or hours of troubleshooting on my production machine.
I am an Adobe fan/supporter for over 10 years... but I will not install LR2 until I see a 2.x update that resolves most of the many issues reported. I was lucky to have avoided the "1.4.0 mistake" and am happy 1.4.1 performs reasonably well, for me (on a PC, Win XP Pro, SP3, 2GB ram...). Even though there are improvements that could have been made to the 1.x "version series."
I do also believe, as Ian implies, that Adobe is working hard on an LR2 update release. The recent lack of Adobe employee input into this user forum hopefully means they have a good idea of what needs fixin', and are working on it. When they have a reasonable ETA on an update release, I'm sure they'll announce it.
Being frustrated is to be expected. Getting "mad" usually is a waste of time. How can we be a better part of the solution?

• Toshiba A135 hangs at auto login prompt(install cd)

Unfortunately I've yet to get any linux distrobutions to boot on this Laptop. It's an old Toshiba a135 with 1.6Ghz celeron M and ati integrated gfx, 512mb ram. Now the Arch install cd however gets to the root prompt but freezes completely there. No tty's avaliable. Nothing just this text and no prompt:
Arch Linux 3.6.8-1-ARCH (tty1)
archiso login: root (automatic login)
it doesn't seem to show any errors or failures at startup with systemd. Is there by chance an early debug shell accessable during startup configured in the installation media before reaching this point (booting to rescue.target froze as well)? I may be able to get more info if I can get a working shell.
As I have said I tested other boot disks to try and troubleshoot it(I'll list them below) and all of them froze earlier on. Arch seems to be the only thing getting close to functional so I ask this here for that reason.
other disks that failed:
parted-magic
linux mint 13, 14 and LMDE
archbang(december release)
This has already wasted a few of my blank cds/dvds and I have nothing to go off of... I'm riding blind
I'm stuck trying to debug this from grub but still freezes each time I try to get to a shell...

OK.. so here's where I believe the problem originates. Not entirely sure but it's very likely resposible for the linux installers that can't boot. It is a hardware issue but a very odd/uncommon one. The laptop supports ddr2 and has two slots but only one stick can be recognized whether in the 1st or 2nd slot... Here's how I came to this observation. At first I thought it was bad ram. Of which I as right partially. One stick out of two 512mb sticks was completely dead. but removing the bad one didn't fix the issue. Which leads me to suspect it's a controller malfunction. Here's what I did after popping in a good 1gb ddr2 to replace the 512mb bad one.
all of the following booted windows...
1st slot + 1gb
2nd slot + 512mb(good stick)... works... only 1gb recognized.
1st slot + 512mb
2nd slot + 1gb... works ... only 512mb recognized.
1st slot + 1gb
2nd slot empty... works...
1st slot empty
2nd slot + 1gb... works...
1st slot + 512mb
2nd slot empty... works...
1st slot empty
2nd slot + 512mb... works...
I'm a bit confused with this but, I'll mark this one solved after a little input over the next few days...
Also on the side of the arch linux disk I booted with "init=/bin/bash" and got shell but very little was usable and also led to lockups later on when trying to start some different processes(haven't tested this on the other boot disks I have but I doubt it will matter either way... "init=/bin/bash was about as close to functional as I could get. It's pretty much a dead end with my current knowledge... Any last thoughts I'd love to hear them.

• Install PDK problem

Dear All
I am using oracle 9i AS R2, i try to install the PDK JAVA Framework, i follow the OTN PDK installation guide step by step, when i restart the HTTP server, i open the IE, and then enter 'http://testing.com:7777/servlets/sample' or 'http://testing.com:7777/servlet/sample', IE return 'The page can not be found'.
Would you give me some idea on how to install PDK??
Tony

Hi,
What version of PDK are you using? If you are new to PDK, i would suggest that you download the latest December release from
http://otn.oracle.com/software/htdocs/devlic.html?http://download.oracle.com/otn/other/PDK.zip
On unzipping the pdk.zip you will find the lotus notes portlets under %PDK_UNZIP%/PDK/solutions/lotusnotes. There you will find the installation guide for deploying the lotusnotes.ear onto your OC4J.
Under %PDK_UNZIP%/PDK/solutions/ you will also find some new portlets like sms, smtp that you might want to try.
For URL Services, you can go through the PDK release notes at %PDK_UNZIP%/PDK/ which will give you pointers to articles on URL services.

• Font's glyph errors: Firefox, Radeon

Having some random font glyph errors randomly appearing after new reinstall. Not sure of the source. After no lucking changing font settings I tried upgrading to infinality-bundle which improved overall font look but still has the errors. When you use the text select tool over the bad rendered fonts they repaint properly. Will also appear disapear sometimes when scrolling quickly.
